Belated Birthday Present (Arthur/Molly/Roxy)

Arthur had become a bit forgetful in his old age, but this was embarrassing. He was looking for his gardening gloves when he happened upon a wrapped gift. He looked at it and blushed. The gift was a new potions kit for Roxy... that he was supposed to have given her for her last birthday. He was embarrassed to tell his wife of the mistake, and knew there was only one thing to do... get it to Roxy in Hogsmeade.

But in that, something good came out of something bad. It was a golden opportunity to go and visit another of his adored and much loved granddaughters. He loved Roxy and found humor in her mischievous side. She reminded him so much of Fred after all. How he missed his son and wished Roxy could had come to know her uncle. They would have gotten along so splendidly.

So a trip to Hogsmeade it was to give Roxy her present and to spend some much needed time with her. He was glad Molly could come along too this time. He hated she was unable too when he had gotten a chance to see Rose and Lily. Now Roxy could see both grandparents.

Once they arrived, it was on to the spot where they were to meet Roxy. Holding the gift under his right arm, Arthur beamed as he awaited the girl.

Roxy was excited to see her grandparents as she hadn’t seen them since Christmas. She had snuck some stuff into the pumpkin juice and she remember how her father had taken the fall for it. Of course she had gotten it from his trunk of goods, anything that didn’t ware off was most likely one of Roxy’s creations. She skipped along the cobblestone path that took up most of the Hogsmeade looking for her Grandparents. Although most would be put off by Grandma Weasley’s smothering hugs she enjoyed being one of the youngest Weasleys because she got spoiled. Roxy was a daddy’s girl through and through but she loved visits from her grandparents the most, they had the most wonderful stories and of course candy. Grandma Weasley always had some type of food. A Weasley never went hungry, not while she was around, she finally spotted them waiting at an apparition point and skipped over. “Grandpa Weasley!” she exclaimed giving him a hug.

Molly Weasley was cooking when she heard Arthur call for her. She didn't know what was happening so she quickly made her way to him. When she came near him, she saw a wrapped gift and he was looking for the gardening gloves. "Ohh dear, you forget her birthday didn't you."She said as she looked at him. "I should get you a calender that reminds you the birthdays sometime"Molly said as she looked at him. "Let me go put out the fire, and I will come with you."She said. She quickly walked back putting out the fire and put out her apron. "Well are you ready dear?"She asked as they then poofed away to Hogsmeade. The place were some students could go.

A few minutes later they started to look around for her grandchild. One of the many they had, and one of the many that she cared so much about. A few minutes later Roxy arrived and hugged her grandpa. Molly gave a smile while she looked at it. "It is nice to see you again Roxy."Molly said. Her voice was soft and sweet and she wanted to hug her grandchild, but waited until she was done with Arthur

Molly had every right to get on to Arthur. True he had so many grandchildren now, but that was not excuse to forget to give any of them their birthday present. He hoped he hadn't broke Roxy's little heart. To know he had upset her would very much break him. Again, he was happy Molly was there too. After all those years, he loved his wife dearly and was as happy to be with her as the day the two were wed. The times the two could go to Hogsmeade together were much more meaningful to him.

When Roxy ran up to Arthur to hug him, he knew all would be well. He embraced her with the arm not holding the gift and kissed her on the cheek.

"My dear Roxy," she said. "I dare say you've grown even lovelier than last I saw you... but hopefully not too much more mischievous." He then looked at Molly and cleared his throat.

"Yes... well then..." he said. "Roxy, I wanted to say first that I am sorry that I forgot to give you your birthday present some time back. I had purchased it for you, and... well... there's no good excuse really for me forgetting to give this to my wonderful granddaughter." He smiled and handed the gift to her. "Happy Belated Birthday, my dear." He then moved a side a bit, both to let her open the gift and to let her have a moment reuniting with her grandmother as well before they all picked a place to go and spend some time together.

Roxy smiled and hugged her grandmother after she was done hugging her grandmother. "It's so nice to see you guys" she replied excitedly. She hadn't seen them since Christmas and she had heard from Lilly that she had missed her grandfathers visit earlier. Roxy excepted the gift with a smile on her face "oh, it's okay i know the burrow can be a bit hectic" At least it was hectic to her, so many people popping over to say hi or get a taste of Grandma Weasley's cooking. She turned her attention to the present and opened it with excitement. He eyes widened and she squealed,, when the potions kit she wanted was revealed "Omg thanks i had my eye on this for awhile" she said as she hugged both her grandparents again.

"Anything to have some time with you my dear."Molly said as she hugged Roxanne back. Molly knew nothing could replace the love for her children, nor her grandchildren. Freds dead would always be a big spot in her life, but she had enough grandchildren to fill up love. Roxy was one of them. "The burrow has always been like that, but it is a home. Something we all love to be around."Molly said as she felt another hug from Roxanne. "Happy Birthday once again then dear."She said as she smiled to see Roxanne so happy. "How about we go get something to drink and spend some time together?"Molly asked as she looked to Arthur and Roxanne.

To Roxy:

Arthur smiled widely when Roxy was pleased with the gift and hugged him and Molly again. With all due respect to his children and children-in-laws, grandchildren hugs were the best.

"The burrow is certainly a busy place these days, and even busier during the holidays with all of you around," he said. "But Molly and I couldn't ask for anything better. When there is life in that place, it's a place worth living in." Arthur then looked a bit puzzled. "Now did someone once write that or did I make that up? Well if I did, I need to write it down... or put it on a sign. We can put it above the front door." Arthur beamed at all this. The things that made the old man happy.

To Molly:

Molly had a wonderful idea, especially because Arthur was thirsty, along with the time with Roxy of course..

"Good idea, my dear," he said, placing his arm around Molly and kissing her on the cheek. "To the Three Broomsticks then?" He wished he could pick Roxy up again and carry her. He missed carrying her and his other grandchildren around the house, chatting away to them about this and that. With some of his grandchildren getting older, perhaps there would be a great grandchild or two in the next couple of years.

For now, he would offer his hand for Roxy to hold.

Roxy took her grandfather's offered hand and nodded "Sounds like a plan" she couldn't think of anything better than spending alone time with her grandparents. Sometimes things got crowded at the burrow and it was hard to spend time with one child specifically or talk to them one on one. She was excited and had to them the good news about the summer, she had told all her friends and most of her family, some of them listening twice. "Did you know that mum is finally letting me use the lab at the joke shop? Dad said it was okay and now i can make my own potions and tinker with them, i just have to be careful and document what i do...mum's condition but i do that anyways so it's not a problem"

She hoped her grandmother wasn't too against it, as she knew she was a bit smothering when it came to her children and grand children so looking in her grandmothers direction she quickly added "Supervised of course, in case something goes wrong my dad can jump in and right it" She smiled happily as she gently swung her hand between her and her grandfather, it reminded her of when she was little...except now she was taller.

Molly looked to Arthur as she returned the kiss. It was nice to spending some time with her grandchildren. Some spend more time visiting her and Arthur then others. Last time she was alone with Rose and she had spend some time with the other girls. It was like the weasley family of girls came more around then the boys. She didn't mind it at all, she would always love them. Who doesn't want such a big family. While she heard what Roxy said Molly looked up with a stern look. But Roxy probably felt it because she quickly added the line with protection of George. "I am not sure what to say dear."She said as she looked at her. "I really don't think it is a great idea."Molly said. "You using the lab at the joke shop. In fact if he leaves for a customer .... who knows what can happen then."She said. This was how George was. Always joking around but caring little about what could happen. It happened more, but one howler from his mother and it was all over. Maybe she had to speak with him about this, but she didn't want to ruin the moment. "Lucky you enjoy it my dear."She said as she gave a smile to her.

Arthur smiled at the fact that Roxy could play about in the lab. She was very creative and that was why he got her the potion kit to begin with.

"That sounds wonderful, dear," he said. "I imagine you'll have a great deal of fun in there."

Then Molly spoke of the issues that went along with Roxy being in the lab and Arthur quickly changed his tune. In the Weasley Family, the mother hen still ruled the roost.

"Your grandmother is right though," he said. "There must be a level of caution." He gave his wife an awkward smile. But then Molly seemed to warm up to the idea. His wife could be a confusing one at times.

Once Arthur had entered the Three Broomsticks, he sat and looked over menu. He knew the menu from top to bottom, and knew what he liked, but he still looked over it as if it were a custom to do so. He then smiled at Roxy.

"Well then, my dear, what would you like to have today?" he asked. Arthur fancied a beer himself, but decided to avoid ordering one in the presence of his granddaughter. He reckoned Molly night box his ears for it too.

Roxy knew her grandmother would have a hard time accepting that she was going into a dangerous career and of course dangerously tinkering with potentially explosive ingredients but it was what she loved. Even if she didn't make a break through in the potion world and she was resign to her little revenge potion and joke shop she was happy because she was going what she loved.

She was a bit surprised that her grandmother back down so easily but she took it as a learned experience, Weasleys were a notoriously stubborn bunch and she was no different. She just took it as a small miracle and nodded, walking into the three broomsticks.

"Hmm just a butterbeer" she said, without looking at the menu, she had been there enough to have it memorized and she figured it was mostly for the traveling tourist and the third years as this was their first year in the village.

'Are you excited for James, Rose, and Freddie's graduation not to mention Thomas's' she said trying to recall the Weasley's that were graduating this year. 'Oh that reminds me, i plan to take Jame's spot on the Quidditch team when he leaves...Seeker has always been my goal for fifth year.' she said happily in truth she's had her eye on that position for awhile.

Maybe it was Molly becoming softer, maybe it was the age that she still wanted to spend time with her children and Grandchildren but she wasn't going to let her grandchildren play around with potions. She knew Arthur was behind her as she could hear him say stuff that she knew he didn't mean, he was just being nice to stand behind his wife. She just had to back away a bit to go in against George. George has always been afraid for Molly, at least her Howlers. So maybe it was sooner or later time to discuss the fact of the potions making. She looked at Roxanne and then back to Arthur as they headed to the Three Broomsticks. She looked at Roxy when she started to talk about the graduation.

"Let's do some tea."She said to the waitress as she walked away. She then turned back to Roxy when she started to talk about the graduation. "Well we really are excited about it, I am just wanting to be sure they get a good job and life further in the Wizarding World."Molly said as she looked around at the people and then back to Roxy. "Just be careful, we had more Weasleys been hit by a bludger.She said, as she knew the years of Ron, George and Fred flying around getting hit and what not.

Arthur simply nodded when Molly ordered the tea. That worked for him. A good stiff drink was fine for when he was out with his friends, but there was nothing like a good cup of tea with the family.

Arthur nodded in agreement with Molly when she spoke of how well she hoped the graduating Weasleys would do in the Wizarding World.

"I hope so too," he said. "But I cannot think of one Weasley that has never done us proud, my dear. Why look at Roxy here. Only a Fourth Year and she is already a creative genius."

Arthur beamed when Roxy spoke of joining the Quidditch Team.

"Roxy, that's wonderful!" he said. "We Weasleys have quite the history of the Pitch!"

Arthur then laughed when Molly spoke about the bludgers.

"Not our Roxy," he said. "She has fire in her eyes and will make those bludgers think twice about hitting her."

The tea and butterbeer arrived and the waiter asked if they would like anything to eat with it. Arthur guessed it was more about the drinks, but he always liked a little something to chew on with his tea.

"Just some pumpkin bread for me, and whatever my dear wife and dear granddaughter would like," he said.
