Mathieu stepped out of the book shop, smiling as he had finally gotten a hold of a book he had wanted for some time. It was a book on the World's Rarest Healing Potions. If there were two subjects Mathieu ate up, it was Potions and Arithmancy. He also planned to dabble in Alchemy, but knew he had to wait another year to take that class. He didn't mind as his busy academic schedule this year was more than enough to occupy him. He hoped he could see about obtaining a Teacher's Aid position with the Potions Professor, or perhaps he would luck out and get one in the Arithmancy Class. He liked both Professors a great deal and would love to work with them. For now though, it was all about his new book... REALLY about his new book as his full attention was on it. As he walked along Diagon Alley, he read away. People managed to dodge him for the time being. Fortunately, they were paying attention. One had to wonder how he didn't find himself suddenly walking into a place like Knockturn Alley without knowing it. Perhaps it was because he knew the path he usually walked in Diagon by heart. Renee had music in her head. No, not literally, but there was definitely a tune playing in the mind of this young Slytherin. She had just finished all her shopping the day before for the new school year, but she had come back to see friends who might be shopping. She had yet to find anyone, so she was just strutting through the alley mouthing the words to a song that was playing in her head. She had spent all summer writing music and playing her guitar or piano. This was the aftermath of it all. She always had music on the brain, sure, but summers made her always musically expressive.
Her and Noel were talking again. After the spat she had with Dean and his.... bloody impurity, literally. She was slowly getting over that, and would eventually be able to put that behind her and remain friends with Dean. She knew if she didn't that meant losing Noel, and that was a sacrifice for her beliefs she would never take. How could someone so fragile and pretty be so discerned by Mudbloods? It had happened though, and it was her father's fault. Her music enveloped her thoughts again, and for a brief second she closed her eyes and stood there with her mouth open, as if she were holding a note. Toward the end, she giggled softly. She loved summers. As she opened her eyes, a boy with a big was only inches away from her. "Ah! Wat--" watch it.. That was what she was trying to say. Though, that didn't help. He crashed into her and she fell to her butt with her hands catching the rest of the fall.
"Owe.." she said as she hit the cobble stone. "You gotta look up, bro.." her tomboyishness was everlasting when it came to talking to other guys. Though, she never had a princess-y side with anyone, so talking to girls she was just indifferently girlish-non-girlie. "You okay?" she said, putting her hand on her bum.

Mathieu fell as well upon impact with the girl. Like her, he fell hard on his backside. However, being the gentleman he was, he worried more for the lady. Rising to his feet, he extended his hand to her to help her up as well. "Pardon, Mademoiselle," he said in his heavy French accent. "That was very clumsy of me. And oui, I'm alright. I hope you are as well." He smiled at the girl as he fixed his classes. "I am afraid that sometimes I become quite stimulated by my literature and become distracted." He showed her his book. "The World's Rarest Potions. It is a fascinating book."He then blushed as one, the girl he spoke with was beautiful, and two, he had realized that he had rambled on and not introduced himself. "Pardon again, Mademoiselle, I have not shown proper manners," he said. "My name is Mathieu... Mathieu Peirrin." He quickly marked his place in the book and closed it, then extended his hand to her. Despite his attachment to books and desire at times to be alone with those books, Mathieu was quite friendly and sociable as well. If the girl wanted to talk, then he was more than happy to return to the book later. RENEE CORRINE FOSTER

She giggled at his formality. Tomboy, yes, girl, always. He trusted his hand with hers and allowed him to raise her back to her feet, "Thank you!" She was smiling wide and very brightly. She was a Slytherin, but not because of evil antics and rudeness. The sorting hat saw that Slytherin would help her best to put her on her way to excellence, greatness, and success. Not everyone in Slytherin has to be a snake. "I'm Renee.. but, you can call me Ren.. Foster." she gave him a slightly quizzical look, Do people really talk so formal? So... literately? I like this kid.
Once he said the word. potions, that was enough to catch her interest. Rare potions?! Count me in!" she giggled with a bright smile. He seemed very quirky, but completely gentle hearted. This made her happy, she needed more good friends. Not like she didn't have plenty, but other than Arley and River, there weren't many she trusted on such a level. "I'm going to assume that you're a Ravenclaw?" he wasn't Slytherin, that's for sure, and he didn't seem ditzy and bubbly like most Hufflepuffs she knew. There was a chance he was in Gryffindor, but he didn't seem the type to fit the bill of extremely outgoing and annoying.

As wise as he was, Mathieu would have never guessed that the girl was a Slytherin by how polite she was acting. Granted, he knew not all Slytherins were as cold as people made them out to be, but still he had met a few in his time that proved the assumptions true. "Renee, that is a very lovely name," smiled Matieu. "Ren is quite nice as well. I usually do not go by a nickname, though I have been called Mat and Matie." Mathieu chuckled a bit at the second one. Mathieu was then pleased to find she liked potions as well. With all the students taking Potions, it was actually difficult to find someone to talk about them with without the person falling asleep. "Oui, it is fascinating," he said. "The mystery of Potions Making never ceases to amaze me."Mathieu nodded and smiled when she guessed his House correctly. "Oui, I am a Ravenclaw," he said. "You are perhaps a Gryffindor, no?" Again, Mathieu would not have guessed Slytherin. He knew she wasn't Ravenclaw or else he would have seen her in the Common Room. And the girl was cheerful, but not overly cheerful like many Hufflepuffs were. So Gryffindor was really the only guess he could come up with. RENEE CORRINE FOSTER

Ren was looking at him awkwardly. He seemed to talk almost robotic, not his words, just what he was saying. Things were very formal, and Renee looked at things like this almost in distaste. Though, Mat had a way of making it sound good. He had a French accent, which really helped with that. The appeal was there. She blushed when he said her name was lovely, "Why, thank you. Aren't you quite the gentleman." She smiled brightly. He didn't really seem like he would be her type. She genuinely fell for the bad guy, or the guy who just found himself in trouble. Like Arley. He had kissed her.. She kissed him.. Things with those two have been a bit weird, and she couldn't wait to get back to school in order to talk to him.
She shook thoughts of Arley and her foreseen conversation with him, "I love potions. It is my favorite class!" She wasn't too big on history, but the history of potions was something she'd completely dig into. "The book seems like it would be quite interesting!" She loved learning about pretty much anything that dealt with potions. She has always known and lived by the more you know, is just the more you have to use.
She started giggling when he asked if she was a Gryffindor. She nodded at him being in Ravenclaw, and with a smirk she said, "No.. I'm actually a Slytherin." most people had the same reaction. Double take, awkward blank stare, and then into acceptance of the fact that she was a Slytherin.
"So, what brings you out here today?" She asked him curiously.

Underneath the nerdiness, Mathieu had something that might have surprised a few people- genuine charm. And yes, the French accent helped out with that. He gave a small bow when she said he was a gentleman. "I pride myself on always giving a beautiful lady with a beautiful name her due," he said. He then smiled as she said she enjoyed Potions. He would be sad though to find that given their differing years, they would not share a class together. "I am pleased to hear this, Ren," she said. "I enjoy both Potions and Arithmancy a great deal. The idea that I might use the former to create something wonderful one day or the latter to solve a great problem intrigues me. And I would be happy to let you borrow the book when I am finished."Mathieu was admittedly surprised when the girl said she was a Slytherin. However, that would not change his opinion of her. She had been very nice to him, and not only that, she was very lovely and he began to find that he fancied her. He would saying nothing about that though, as he was sure as girl as perfect as she had someone already. "Then Slytherin House is quite fortunate to have such a lovely resident during the school year," he said, turning any surprise he showed into another compliment. Mathieu then shrugged a bit when Renee asked what he was doing in Diagon. "Just enjoying a rare trip to the book shop," he said. "I live in Southern France, so I can only occasionally come here, even with the Portkey. Now tell me, Mademoiselle Ren, why is Diagon Alley graced with your presence today?"RENEE CORRINE FOSTER

She's the Smoke! She's Dancing Fancy Pirouettes. This kid seemed to be very formal, and that was nice. Renee didn't meet many who were formal AND decent. Though, she kind of found him to be a bit dorky. He seemed very old fashion gentleman like, and he was younger than her. She was curious for a moment as to why he looked somewhat familiar. Nothing came to mind, but she nodded with a blush. "Thanks." she said with a bewildered smile. She didn't know whether to try and hold a formal conversation, or just talk how she normally spoke.
"Maybe. In the school year, we'll see. Hogwarts, right?" she said curiously. If he was from France, why would he be coming to Hogwarts? She knew another boy from France, and his had to deal with Father/Family issues. Olivier. Was that why this kid looked familiar?? She thought about it for a minute, then reassured herself that the two may have seemed to look a lot alike, they weren't really alike at all. Olivier had more of a laid back personality. Surely, the two were of different families? Her mind still played curious games on her. Her curiosity was a strong one. Thanks.. Again." she said, smiling sweetly. What was this, compliment Ren day? Maybe this was his way of flirting? She didn't know for sure.
"Well, Ravenclaw, I'm betting, is sure proud to have someone as respectful and intelligent as you!" she sad in glee. He was very kind, and very formal, and came off as someone who knew a lot. He didn't look to be more than a fifth year, but she could definitely be wrong. "What year are you?" she asked him. If he did say fifth year, he could have been Olie's little brother. She was curious to know now.
She knew her exact reason to be here was nothing impressive. She had everything for school, she was just needing to get out and maybe see a friend or two. "Just.. getting away from home for the day. I've been cooped up writing and playing like.. all summer." Not that she didn't want to do so, but she had spent a lot of time with her notebook, piano, guitar, and her own voice. "Though, I could use a bite.." she said putting her hand on her flat stomach. She giggled kindly.

Mat smiled at Ren when she thanked him. It was a simple thanks, but it was beautiful to his ears. "Soyez le bienvenu (you're welcome)," he said. Mat then nodded as Renee asked if he attended Hogwarts. "Oui, I attend Hogwarts," he said. "I live in France, but certain circumstances permit me and my siblings to go. I am very happy about this as Hogwarts has been very good to me. The classes are intellectually stimulating and I have made many wonderful friends, just as I have today, no?" He smiled at Renee. Mat then blushed a bit as Ren said Ravenclaw was fortunate to have him in the House. If anyone dared to say that all Slytherin lived up to some grim stereotype, they only need to meet Renee. She was not just friendly and sweet for a Slytherin. She just seemed very friendly and sweet in general. "Merci, Ren, that is very kind of you," he said. "And this will be my Fifth Year."Mat raised an eyebrow when Ren said she could use a bite to eat. He offered his arm to her. "Mademoiselle Renee, I would be honored to treat you to a meal, and will not accept any answer but oui... yes," he said, chuckling at the last part. RENEE CORRINE FOSTER

She's the Smoke! She's Dancing Fancy Pirouettes. She recognized the French, but not what it meant. She smiled, hoping it was something similar to you're welcome. Though, she has always heard De Rien. She figured, he spoke a lot more formal English, maybe it was a more formal French? She shrugged it off with a nod and a smile.
She was happy to be called his friend, she didn't actually have friends who shared her interests in potions and the like. Today was turning out to be a great day! "Yeah? I'm a sixth." she said, spryly. She certainly was extra bubbly today. The summer had been kind to her, and Mat was more than enough to make her happy today. His great personality shadowed his so perfect formal speaking, that she barely noticed it at all. She assumed he did so only because it was in his nature. She blushed as his arm was offered and he offered to get her food. She thought about Arley for a second, but what could this hurt? They were just friends, after all?
She placed her arm in his with a smile, "Why thank you, kind sir." she said in imitation of older English. Her humility and humor certainly weren't always hand-in-hand, but today they were.

When Renee said she was Sixth Year, there was a thought that passed through Mat's brain that reminded him he was a male. That thought being about the glorious revelation that he was hanging out with an attractive older woman, albeit only slightly older. The part of Mat's brain that reminded him he was gentleman suppressed it though. "I see," he said. "Two more years for you then? You must be quite excited. What plans do you have for after graduation?"Mat hoped he wasn't asking too much since the two just met, but he had a feeling the two would get along very well. There was a good vibe between them already, and he noticed as of late that a lot of Ravenclaws and Slytherins seemed to get along well, though often a strong friendship didn't really depend on the Houses two people were in. But still... Mat then smiled as Renee accepted his invitation to dine. "Where would like to eat?" he asked. "I find the tea shop has some lovely French dishes, or the Bakery perhaps?" Mat really didn't want to consider the option of the Leaky Cauldron. The food was okay, but he didn't like the atmosphere of the place, especially with all the people hanging about and drinking. She's the Smoke! She's Dancing Fancy Pirouettes. Ren was happy that they had met, and he seemed to be extremely kind. Most smart kids were also super snobby, and she noted he wasn't like that. For her, if it wasn't for her strong dislike toward muggle-borns and muggles, she would most likely not be in Slytherin. Her father really did a number on her feelings toward people, but she shrugged the thought and smiled when he asked her about her plans for her future. Now there was something she could talk about all day.
"Yes!" she exclaimed. she was ready to be finished and off into the adult world. "Well.. I want to play and record music.. like.. more than anything in life. And if that doesn't pan out, I have writing to fall back on. Journalism to be more specific. Something for the Prophet probably..." she said with a bright smile. she knew that she was good enough to make it into the music world, and wasn't too nervous about it. There was no way she could fail. "What about you? Where are you heading after your graduate?" she didn't care too much as to what year he was. She assumed he wasn't a sixth year, but didn't look young enough to be under year four.
She paused when he asked her. She loved food, and was a very picky person. Though, she couldn't think of what she really wanted. She could probably eat just about anything right now, "Hm.. Well, I'll follow your lead. Anywhere that serves a good selection of food is fine with me. Not the Cauldron.. I've eaten there like.. a million times in the past few months, or so it seems." she said with a small smirk. "No.. not the bakery.. I want real food." she said with a giggle.

Mat listened as Renee spoke of her career plans. She seemed pretty confident, as she had a plan and a back-up plan. "Both would be admirable careers, and two I am certain you would be quite talented at," said Mat, who of course loved both music and the written word... well at least Non-Fiction. "I wish you the very best."Mat was quick to answer about his career options. "Something in Arithmancy I think," he said. "Or I may be a Potion Master at St. Mungo's. Probably the latter with Arithmancy as a hobby or long term goal. So I suppose like you, I have the... how do you say... back-up plan."
Mat then listened as she knocked out a few of the lunch options. "The tea shop it is then," he said. "They have some excellent sandwiches and light dishes."And from there Mat walked with his lovely new friend. He didn't know at the time if the friendship would go anywhere else, but if not, so be it. Renee was a lovely person to be around in general. End RENEE CORRINE FOSTER
