Nina was back and school and ready to practice magic. This was her last year at Hogwarts, so she wanted to get her skills down for the world outside. DADA class and official duels were useful and all, but Nina wanted to be involved in a more "free style" situation. Fortunately, one of her best mates, Vin, offered to help her out with an unofficial duel. The spells and curses would be ones that the two knew how to reverse in case one was successful, though she hoped both would be able to deflect the others' attacks. Nina definitely wanted to make sure Vin was ready for the real world too should he be attacked by someone.
The Sixth Floor was appropriate for this. Almost no one went there except when they had to rush to the loo while going up or down the stairs. The classrooms were practically never used. So Nina stepped into one, coughing a bit at the dust and cobwebs. Apparently no one ever cleaned them either. Once Nina cleared her throat she smiled though.
"Vin, are you hiding in her or are you just a wee bit late?" she asked. "If it's the former, you'd better come out and take your medicine, love."

When Nina had talked about wanting some practice with wandwork and duelling, Vincent had overheard and had suggested the two of them do a practice duel together. Only with a certain range of spells, so that neither of them would get hurt, but enough that they were actually duelling seriously as well. It would be good practice for both of them, he thought.
He was running a little late to get to the room where they were going to do it, but eventually he made it, and opened the door and saw Nina inside. "Hey, Nin. (pronounced Neen) Sorry I'm a bit late. I got held up chatting to Dany about beater tactics," he explained with a grin. "This is a pretty good room for it, I don't think I've ever been in here before. How did you come up with it?"

Nina felt silly when it turned out Vin actually hadn't shown up yet, but she just laughed it off when she looked at him.
"No worries, love," she said. "But speaking of Quidditch, we both best be careful in here today. No getting cocky and going for a weird curse. Remember you and I both have an upcoming game to win. Simple stuff, right?"
She then looked about as he asked how she came up with the room.
"Meh, it's the Sixth Floor," she said. "Nobody comes here unless they have to go to the loo. I don't think anyone's used this rooms in ages. So I highly doubt anyone will walk into the middle of our battle and get hit by magic themselves."
She then moved closer and put her back to his.
"Anyway, let's get this show on the road," she said. "Wands at the ready. We walk ten paces, turn and from there, it's party time!" She said the second part of that sentence with a mock, wicked tone. She then began to move and count. Nina was admittedly nervous. She loved Vin. He was a wonderful friend and teammate. And as fun as Dueling was, she didn't want to cause him any real damage.

He nodded at her point about Quidditch. That was pretty obvious to him as well, the team always came first. "Right, of course. There's no way we would want to jeopardise the team," he agreed easily.
"Right. Sounds good." With that, he counted out from one to ten with her as they walked away from each other. As they hit ten, he dived to one side and rolled, coming up and firing a jelly-legs curse at her. He had always wanted to try that diving roll thing, and it wasn't as easy as it looked - he had hit his shoulder a little awkwardly on the ground as he rolled, but it wasn't anything serious, just a bruise.

Vin was quick with the curse, and Nina was glad she decided to be prepared with a Shield Charm instead of going for a curse of her own.
"Protego!" she shouted, protecting herself against the curse just in time. She then moved around a corner and hid a second before popping out quickly with her own curse.
"Mucus ad Nauseam!" she chanted. This was known as the Curse of the Bogies, and if it successfully hit Vin, it would give him a strong cold. Usually the curse would make someone pass out if not treated, but Nina would make sure Vin was perfectly healthy and conscious by the time they walked out. Again, that was IF the curse was successful. She knew that Vin knew the Shield Charm as well as she did, and she had a feeling "Protego" would be chanted a number of times if the room... unless one of the two got the advantage. And Nina really didn't want to imagine what Vin would hit her with that would work. She just hoped it he did so, he would be as considerate as she planned to be and life the curse shortly after it hit her. Blind faith in one of her best mates.

After rolling, Vincent had come up to a standing position, ready to focus on any curses that came his way. He had enough practice with the shield charm by now that if he was fully alert and focused, he could deflect any deflectable spell that came his way - it was only when distracted or focusing on multiple things at once that he would potentially fail at blocking a spell. As a result of that he quite easily blocked the Curse of the bogies, and then tried to disarm Nina. "Expelliarmus!" he said as he fired the jinx at her. "Wingardium Leviosa," he then said, as he started to levitate some books from a bookshelf nearby Nina to start to fly around her to hopefully distract her and put her off her guard.

Nina was expecting Vin to use the Shield Charm so much that he forgot the simple use of Expelliarmus. Away flew her wand and then she suddenly found the books flying around her. A very clever distraction by Vin indeed. The trouble for Vin was that Nina knew it was a distraction. She had to ignore the books and get to her wand quickly. Dropping... and groaning and coughing as she hit the hard, dust-filled floor, found her wand had landed over in a corner. She really wished she knew Wandless Magic at the time, so she could draw the magic back to her. Nope, she had to fight fire with fire... er so to speak.
"Oh no, Professor Grimp!" she shouted, pointing to the doorway. She hoped Vin would fall for it. Nina was a Speed Demon on and off a broom and a quick glance over at the door by Vin would give her more than enough time to grab her wooden weapon.

The trouble was, he trusted Nina. Which made sense, but was unusual with a person he would generally be in a duel with. So, while he felt he had the upper hand and she was scrambling for her wand, when she mentioned Professor Grimp was at the doorway, he frowned a little and turned to look at it, before seeing that the door was still closed. Apparently she had used his trust against him - quite a low blow. He turned back to face her only seeing that she had now picked her wand up and whatever advantage he had before was gone. "That's a dirty trick in a supposedly honourable duel," he replied with a raised eyebrow and the hint of a smirk. She definitely had her fair share of ingenuity.

Most of the time, Nina would never be deceptive to Vin. She was a prankster, but would never deliberately deceive one of her best friends in an actual situation. But this was all in good fun, and a silly "look over there" distraction was excusable... especially when it gave her time to get her wand. Rising, she paced and kept aim at Vin. She tried to gather every defensive charm in her head to prepare for his next curse. Vin almost had her that time, and the competitive side of Nina couldn't have that. When he told her it was a dirty trick, she smirked.
"I thought we agreed, aside from the obvious rules all bets were off," she said. "And oh, who tried to through me off with a levitation charm, Mr. High and Mighty?" She chuckled and bowed to him. "Alright, Sunshine... give it your next go." She then looked serious, preparing for whatever her friend conjured up next.

"Well, now that I know for sure where we stand..." he just replied with a grin. "And there's nothing unethical about levitation charms," he countered. "Right, enough chit-chat. Confundo!" he said as he aimed at her, keeping his wand pointed at her ready to try and deflect any spell that came at him.

"Vin, are you bringing ethics into a wand fight?" asked Nina jokingly. "And here I thought I had a worthy opponent." He almost got her with the Confundo if it weren't for her mind being ready.
"Protego!" she shouted again. She was then about to attempt to hit him with something else, but knew he was just as ready to shield her off as she was him. So she had to be clever. So instead of aiming at him, she aimed at a nearby window.
"Avis!" she shouted. This would summon a flock of small birds. They wouldn't attack Vin but, should the charm be successful, they would fly around him and confuse him long enough for a good distraction.

"So ethics make someone unworthy? That's hardly a decent outlook," he countered, a little surprised by Nina's words, even if they were joking. Still, he readied himself.
When he saw her turn to the window and use the Avis charm, he readied himself for the birds that would come through the window. Conjuring birds, that was an interesting idea, and one that she was clearly trying to distract him with. He waited until they were about to swoop low in between he and Nina, and then pointed at a hanging lamp on the ceiling between them. "Diffindo," he muttered, and the lamp fell from the ceiling. He could repair it afterwards. As it fell, he ran off to one side, thinking the falling lamp would distract Nina, as well as hopefully deal with the birds.
One of the birds, named Patrice, had felt an insane rush of gleefulness upon the moment of her creation. It was a heck of a lot more fun to exist than to not, that was for sure. She only knew one desire, though, and that was to fly around the room as fast as she could to try and distra-
*THUMP*
She was promptly killed by a falling lamp, thus ending her ten seconds of life. RIP, Patrice.

Nina chuckled at Vin. He was really trying to make her out to be the villain in this mock fight.
"Of course not, well not usually," she said. "On the Pitch, I'd kick you in the arse if you didn't have ethics. But this is just for laughs, love, and you know I'm only kidding with you." She then blew him a kiss. "Love ya, Vin."
Nina watched as the bird was killed by the lamp. it was a good thing that bird was a conjured image. If it had been a real bird, the duel would have ended right then and there. Nina was too much of an animal lover. Nina was still a bit taken back by the sight, but got over it. Unfortunately for her, it left her completely distracted for a new attack by Vin, as she was also hoping they could repair the lamp after the fight was over. It was school property after all.

"So when it's just for laughs, ethics can go out the window, I see how it is," he taunted back teasingly, grinning.
He saw that Nina flinched a bit when the bird got hit by the lamp, but it just disappeared at that point and there was no body or anything like that. Still, the lamp had been a good distraction and now that she was staring at it and he was off to one side more, he aimed his wand at her again. "Petrificus Totalus," he said, hoping to end the duel if he hit her with this as she wouldn't be able to move enough to fight back.

"Well good, I'm glad you do, love," laughed Nina. "I do enjoy when people see things my way." She didn't really mean that, but she gave a cheeky grin anyway.
With Nina completely thrown off, she took the Fully Body-Bind Curse straight on. Within a split second, she was frozen solid. Her stiff body fell over and hit the floor. And though her body couldn't move, her mind was racing, not knowing whether to give Vin props for his victory or to take the mickey out of him for pulling such a clever, but dirty trick.
Then again, who the bloody hell was she to condemn him for that?
She mainly hoped he stuck with the rules and reversed the curse now that he had won. She had a DADA project to do that evening.
