Outside the Library in the hallway, Rollo stopped and turned his back on a window nook, setting his hands and jumping so he could get up on the ledge. Sliding into the window, he dropped his bag on the floor and peered out the window, putting his arms around his knees. It had been a torrential downpour all day and most of last night, lightning flickering in the distance and thunder loud and thankfully many seconds away. As he looked out the sky was still dark and rolling, though here and there the sun still shown down in ragged patches. He didn't dislike rain actually, he rather enjoyed the smells and sounds of it, especially on the roof at night. In the tower he didn't get to hear it so clearly, but as it pounded the windows he enjoyed it. It reminded him of the nights when he was very small when his father (now long dead) had sat beside his bed and read to him, making sound effects with the different characters and truly acting out the stories more then reading them. A smile came unbidden to his face as he sat and enjoyed, watching the distant foggy nature of heavy rain storms to move across the grounds. He also knew this was the sort of weather his ancestors had adored, as one of them had told him, and he also understood why. You could really hide in one, disappear. Tracks gone, trails cold, no scents for tracking animals to follow, and practically no way to identify someone in it till they were right on top of you. It had a appeal for such as his family in the past. But then again vampires were not acceptable to most people to begin with. Rollo half-giggled at that idea, thinking that food and predators would never get along really. @evie

Evie was trying to force herself to study. In general she had very little self-discipline when it came to doing schoolwork, so she often ended up falling behind in her classes. Today she was trying to turn over a new leaf and actually go to the library to study, and she had her books under her arm and was heading down the fourth floor corridor, feeling like she was walking towards a death sentence.
When she spotted someone sitting in a window off to one side of the corridor, then, she quickly made a beeline for them, knowing that talking to someone had to be preferable to going to the library to study. She recognised the boy from her year, and thought he was in Ravenclaw, or at least a different house from Hufflepuff. "Hey. Enjoying the storm?" she asked, as she looked out the window past him. The rain was still pelting down, it hadn't stopped all day. She preferred sunshine, but rainy days were fun to draw as they had such beautiful colours in the clouds, especially when the sun broke through. It hadn't done that very much today, though, to her disappointment.

His head turned at her words and he smiled slightly. "Hey Evie." He reached one hand out to feel the striking cold of the pane and didn't shiver, welcoming it a bit. "Yeah, I love storms! it's even better up in the tower when the lightning starts striking, but I just love storms anyway..." A lash lit both their eyes a moment, making him blink to clear them as he turned back towards her again. "I don't know, I guess there's something just so powerful about storms, I can't resist watching them, you know?" he made a slight face remembering another storm and then whispered "I was reading that when you are doing big spells you have to be extra careful in big storms, like they can feed into what you are doing! Can you imagine what that would be like?"For some reason he wondered if it was even possible to harness that sort of thing... @evie

Evie nodded at Rollo's words, thinking it would be even more spectacular up in the towers. That was one of the things that she didn't like about Hufflepuff, the fact that they didn't get their common room inside a tower. "Yeah, I know what you mean. It's like, nature displaying its power for everyone to see," she replied thoughtfully. "Like, people think they can control the world, but nature is more powerful than any of us, you know?" You only had to look at natural disasters to see that people had actually far less control than they thought they did in the world.
She hadn't read about storms effects on spells, so she listened curiously. "Oh, really? Wow! You mean they could get more powerful from the storm feeding into it?" she asked, pondering that. "It sounds like that would be quite risky!"

He nodded at her agreement, turning his head to see her better. She was quite pretty in her own way. A curl fell across his forehead and he knocked it back as he spoke. "Exactly! As if she's saying 'ha, humans you can't beat me' in a way." She understood what he meant, though he thought he would keep his mouth shut about the concealing nature of the storms. That might come across as a bit creepy. "Power to the max." As she showed interest he nodded more, smiling at her. "Yeah I read a forest fire was started once by a witch trying to do some fire starting spell and it happened at the same time. House exploded killing her and flinging stones across the area which set fire to the woods in the middle of a thunderstorm. Ministry had to do a lot of work to hide it later."Of course one only had to look at it to know it was far more power then anyone should try and harness, but didn't the muggles try something like that? "Makes me wonder if muggles have tried with all their electricity stuff."@evie
