No one knew just how Valentyna came about owning the Devil's Flair, the famed alternative wizardwear store on the border of Diagon and Knockturn. Of course they knew why- Val was the last owner, Lothena Battly's successor due to being her sole employee. When Battly's killed herself by drowning herself in the river, Val legally took over.
This is the part almost everyone didn't know- Val, tired of waiting for something to happen to the heinous Battly used the Imperious Curse to force her to kill herself. Val knew no one would bother investigating her over it. Everyone knew Battly was out of sorts and was going to go completely over the edge one day.
So now the shop was here's, and that was just the beginning. Her wicked ways and near life-long interest in Dark magic had gotten the attention of the Black Army. Now she was part of something that would give her so much more power. She could rule so much more than a simple little clothes shop.
But for now, she sat on the counter, legs crossed, and awaited the next customer of the evening.

Miles had been a vampire a very long time.
From court in the states to free travel across Europe, he had dealt with a lot of vampires over the years, both turned and born. His own family had a long history of vampires in it and long lived as well. Being a wizard on top of that had given him an edge in many places at many times. He had learned to develop good instincts because no vampire lasted long without them. This time his passing through the Alley had given him pause as evening came along; it had been a good ten years since his last trip through.
Something had changed in one place.
Knockturn, never a very pleasant place for the mixed breeds, had often over the decades been a source of trouble and for that he avoided it often. However this time he glanced at the corner shop and stopped across the street, curious about what drew his attention that way. After being passed by a few others in their trips down the length of the place he stepped across the street and stopped, looking at the window display. Nothing there seemed off except maybe--
One particular piece in the window seemed to say darker to him. Maybe it was the fabric choice or the coloration or the cut, but it spoke to him and he stepped inside, pausing just inside the door to look around the interior. Modern styles to the most, it had a variety of other things, but in smaller numbers to his perspective from the door. One vest caught his eyes and he walked that way, aware of eyes upon him. A glance towards the proprietor told him she was as curious about him as the other way around.
"Interesting selection you have here." he said, seeing in the corner back behind a display the side of a very nice duster which didn't seem to be very prominent. His eyes only passed over it before he looked back at the vest again.

Val raised an eyebrow as the very handsome and built man walked in. She did love those attractive male customers. She remained sitting on the counter as he looked around, saying and doing nothing until he told her that she had a very nice selection. Hopping down from the counter, she stepped over.
"Thank you," she said softly, standing close enough to him but keeping enough of a distance to tease him. "I pride myself in providing the best in the darker side of fashion. If you see something that tickles your fancy... anything... then don't hesitate to tell me."
She then extended her right hand for the man to shake or kiss, whichever he want.
"Valentyna Cristelle," she said. "Owner of the Devil's Flair. And you are, handsome?"
Val was forward, and didn't care if she was forward. She knew she was gorgeous and knew most men that walked into her shop liked that. So why hold back on her Veela charm?

Most vampires tended to lose their veela abilities when they were turned so Miles didn't encounter many with them. This meant that he ran across only veela themselves when he dealt with people on a regular basis. That helped quite a bit with his ability to recognize and deal with that influence, or at the very least understand when it was being used on him. From his point he knew that being out just after dark made some wary when they suspected someone of not being ll that they were, but he had also fed rather well on two delightfully young girls yesterday so he was more flush then usual.
Darker side of fashion. He smiled. "There are a few things which have caught my fancy so far I must admit, but I also have more then enough clothes. Still, the quality is very high. You should be proud of what you feature." Never ever show a quick interest in what you wanted to buy, he knew from decades of shopping and he wasn't sure of the coat yet in the first place. It didn't exactly fit his current appearance he was putting off in the area. Chuckling, he said "Why thank you," as if she had just told him he was handsome without meaning it as a question, but he answered her question as well. Returning her handshake with an even firmer one he said "Nice to meet you, Ms Cristelle, my name is Miles Long." While not the tallest man he had ever met, his muscular bulk tended to make even some vampires back off from sheer edginess. Add in a vampire's abilities and he was a formidable man he knew; some women were actually more attracted to that which he had used to his advantage many times.
There was a reason he had more female Get then males after all...

Oh, the man was sweet with the compliments on Val's store, but something about him seemed to block her natural charm. It was those type of men that always interested her- the hard to get and even harder to follow.
"One can never have enough clothes when one has the exquisite style that you do," she said. "And you do have style." She looked him over again. His suit was to die for. She supposed she knew why this man wasn't falling for her. He was probably used to women falling for him.
She raised an eyebrow when he shook her hand instead of kissing it, but again she admired his restraint.
"Miles Long," she said, repeating his name. "Afraid I haven't heard of you, but you must be a very popular guy."
She then strutted over in her tight pants and hopped back on the counter. Just because he was resisting didn't mean she wasn't giving up. She sat in a rather alluring pose and watched as he continued to shop.
"Well, Miles Long, I do hope your trip here is worth it today," she said.

She eyed him and he smiled. Maybe he could manage a two for one sale here. There was something rather wicked about this girl in the way she approached him and much more so then the name of the store! "Thanks," he said as she looked for his suit had been carefully chosen, "I was just up at Hogwarts checking in on my daughter." His daughter of course was one of his get and she was in hiding there, but no one needed to know that detail.
Besides, it kept his nephew safer to not have the connection; another reason he did not use his las name in the wizarding world much and instead used his middle. She looked like she had noted his resistance of her power and smiled a trifle wider. "I don't come through here often. I work in France and across Europe often, do a lot of travel so no reason to think you would have heard of me. you could say I just came into town because I was passing through."
Watching her rear as she walked away he wondered if he dare dally with a new acquaintance tonight and thought it might be pushing things; he preferred a few meetings first usually, but she certainly was trying to tempt him. "I'm popular, I suppose, with a small circle of lady friends I would say, but otherwise I keep a low profile usually." When she reached the counter he raised an eyebrow at the pose and grinned, his teeth shiny white in the dimmer evening light. "Well I must say I like the reception so far."
He picked the vest off the hangar and checked the tag and then walked over to the counter with it. As he stepped up to it he casually stepped between her knees sideways, turning towards her, and set a hand down on either side of her, the vest in one of them but clearly not focused on the vest in the slightest. With her clear interest, he tested her resolve by stepping so boldy into her personal space and said with intent. "I like the vest. Maybe we can strike a deal to further my interest in a return visit here soon..."

(Works for me, ) Why was Miles telling her about his daughter? Was it his way of saying, "I'm a happily married man with a child- stay away from me." Val frowned a bit at this. "I see," said Val. "I bet she's a sweetheart."She listened as he spoke of his travels. She had been all over the place too as her parents and her traveled a lot in her youth before her father was killed. "So you get around then," she said. "I'm sure wherever you go, you leave quite an impression behind." She drew close to him, her lips near his. "I know you will tonight."
Not sitting seductively, Val returned his smile when he said he enjoyed the reception. "I always make sure my customers enjoy themselves when they come here," she said. "Some more than others. What can I say... I show favor to the strong and attractive."When Miles picked the vest and then stepped over and stepped between her knees, she purred at him, a wild purr compliments of her Animagus ability. She did not move an inch, showing she rather enjoyed the current positioning of the two. "I'll make you a deal then," she said. "I sell it to you half price... if you agree to take me out to a late dinner when the shop closes. I find you interesting, Miles, and would like to get to know you better."@shava444444

He smiled; his daughter had been merely mentioned to explain why he was dressed up actually, but she seemed not to have gotten that. "She's a bit too much like her father I'm afraid, not so much sweet." In fact his first official meeting with her had not gone very well at all. So getting attention was rather nice. Her next words told him she was very much interested in her customers. Or was he being singled out? He certainly hoped so.
"You could say that. It's certainly not one people forget." He grinned at her treatment of customers thinking to himself he really should learn someday not to play with his food. Except that he wasn't hungry at all, just reacting to the attention. "Everyone has to have their favorites, that is for sure. I like forward myself..."
Pursing his lips, he thought about that. He certainly could not take her out for dinner, not any kind he could really eat so much, but there was a all night pasty shop just outside of Diagon. "Interesting you mention that. I was just debating going for a hot pasty after I got done checking out the shops here. Might you be interested in taking a long walk with a stranger and a pasty later?" Vampires could just manage a pasty, though few people knew that.

Val really didn't want to say anything else on the subject of the guy's kid. She wasn't crazy about most teens. He liked those in the Black Army alright, and saw the ones who came into her store as little walking money bags, but for the most part it was a topic she avoided discussing.
Val then smiled as Miles spoke of being forward. She did like guys who didn't beat around the bush.
"I'm glad you approve of me and my... favoritism," she said. "Then again, is that just because I'm willing to give a customer like you... full service?"
Yeah, that was a blatant remark, but Val didn't care by that point.
Val then listened as Miles pretty much accepted the date invite.
"A walk and a hot pastry sounds lovely," she said. "Just know that when you take a walk with me, I might decide that I don't want you to be a stranger anymore." She then leaned forward again. "Ready to be rung up?" Using impressive agility, she back-flipped and landed on her feet behind the counter.
"Half off it is," she said. "And I'll meet you at midnight in front of the store." She licked her lips as she rung up the vest.
(Can bump up the scene in my next post)

He tilted his head as he looked at her and grinned. The conversation here was as much fun as the rest of the situation and he found himself having fun. It was hard to entertain someone who had been through as many decades as he had and seen so much more then most people had lived through. "Favoritism is such a nasty word, let's say we have more mutual interests and help each other with achieving our mutual...goals?" Inwardly he was becoming more tickled about this approach.
Merlin, he might have to leave this one alive for the fun of the interactions at the least. Once you had Get they were often so respectful you could never get half so much fun out of them later. She had certainly put herself easily right in his sights right off the bat as if offering herself up for his entertainment. He was curious about what her motives were in all of this besides the more base ones. Then again, this shop was on the corner of what could be considered a hostile area.
Suddenly thoughts of more gratifying interactions vanished as he remembered how most in Knockturn considered his kind.
"Ah well, I can think of worst risks then walking a beautiful woman out for a meal. I'll risk it for now, but I expect clear signals when things make you...Hmm, edgy shall we say?" Flipping out his wand as she went over the counter, the longcoat (which was close to the vest) came across the room to him and he caught it glancing over the tag just to make sure it wasn't ridiculous and then put it on the vest. "Add that one on at full price, of course."
A glance over her form and he chuckled softly. "Yes, I think you can ring my bell now." He tilted his head at her again and added as she rung him up a total. "Nice to meet someone so flexible. I suspect this won't be my first trip to visit if things stay this interesting." To the comment about midnight he nodded, picking up both as he dropped the money on the counter for her with a healthy tip included for good service. "I'm quite looking forward to it indeed..."

Val raised an eyebrow when Miles spoke of how they could help one another.
"And tell me... what are your goals in life?" she asked.
Val chuckled a bit when he spoke of her getting edgy.
"I'm a witch with a dark side," she said. "I'm always on edge."
Val then added the added the vest to the order after Miles brought it over with his wand.
"Full price... you must be trying to score some extra points with me," she said. "But I'm not arguing. And I'll just ring up your order for now. We'll worry about your bell later." She then gave him the total for his items. "Maybe by the end of the night, I'll hope it's not your only trip as well."
Midnight...
Val exited her shop at five minutes until midnight. She had already apparated her weasel Snitch home and returned. That took all of about a minute. Once out, she would wait the five minutes and no longer. She had no problem making men wait for her, but Merlin forbid she had to wait for them.

"To enjoy life, of course, there can't be anything more then that. I've already settled my business needs, got my income, nothing left but to have a good time." He grinned, knowing it sounded odd for someone as young looking as he was to already be financially secure and all that. never the less he had the money to show, a business license, and plenty of people in other countries on his references. he chuckled at the edgy part, but took note of the dark side comment.
And being as where her shop was located, that surely was enough for him to chew over.
She spoke about points, but it was a simple precaution. once some people learned what you were after, prices changed. So taking the coat at the last minute stepped ahead of it, though in this case it may not have been an issue. Either way he made no noise about it either. He smiled at her as she rang up the order, "I will see you soon, should be memorable."
- - Later - -
The owl sat on the roof opposite, the hanger over the sidewalk and waited, watching her shop. To be honest in the dark midnight time seeing above the hangers was completely impossible without some natural night vision due to the way wizards lit their streets. When she exited he watched until she was not looking and then hopped off the edge lightly, transforming so he came down landing on the sidewalk on two feet and one hand seemingly dropping out of the air. A swift look around and he rose, smiling as he crossed the path to her side of the street dusting off his coat.
"Right on time, so prompt of you. Shall we go?" he asked, motioning up the street and making his arm free if she was the type who would choose to take it. They would have to go out through the Leaky Cauldron to get there, but that was no issue really.

Val smirked at Miles when he spoke of how his life was now nothing but doing whatever he wanted.
"Caution, handsome," she said. "Usually when one thinks he doesn't have a care in the world, the cares start piling up. But you look like you are one who can handle yourself as well as others."
(Probably should cease with the previous scene now, hehe)
Midnight...
Val chuckled a little when Miles said she was right on time.
"I only make certain people wait," said Val. She saw he was heading toward the Leaky Cauldron and groaned a little. She hated the Leaky Cauldron, even if she just used it to pass through. She hated the stares she got there, be they suspicious one or the gawks from creepy old men and foul-minded boys. She decided to make conversation with the man to take her mind off of it.
"So, Miles, anything about yourself you haven't told me yet," she said. "There's something about you. Most men like you melt at my feet by now because I'm half veela. You play it cool."

Either she had missed his entrance or was ignoring it on purpose rather then inflate his ego. Either way he smirked. There were a few different ways to pick that, but he didn't bother, just enjoyed the moment. As they walked she spoke again. He did not miss the sound she made and interpreted it correctly. "Ah well, I am glad I am part of the chosen few then. Problem with the Cauldron? It's unfortunately the only main way in and out of the Alley besides Appiration and since we're going to a muggle place we sort of have to use it. What can I do to make it more, hmm, entertaining for you?"
Her question however had him grunt in amusement. "Ah well that's not hard to explain, no secret to that," he said neatly dodging the other bit, "I'm no stranger to Veela. Been able to spot them a mile away for a long time. There are certain thing you start to notice and then you can sort of deflect it a bit." The vampire part helped the most of course, but he wasn't ready to say that part. He'd already decided she was one he would prefer alive. And that made the conversation have a different edge too as being 'with someone' was hard not to sink your teeth in them.
So that was off the table pretty much.
"Of course, if you want you can take it the way I want you to, that I am just that cool," he laughed and led the way through the bar and out into muggle London on the sidewalk. Out there he felt a bit freer too; there was something about being surrounded by clueless people to make things way less tense.

(Sorry I missed the owl thing.)
The transformation from being an owl might have impressed Val more had she not been an Animagus herself. Still, it was a noble enough creature for one like Miles to transform into.
Val listened as Miles offered to make the trip through the Cauldron more entertaining and asked her how.
"Let's just make it quick instead," she said. "And why the urge to walk among the Muggles? I have friends who would be quite displeased to see me in their presence... but it's always fun, isn't it? Taking a risk?"
Val smirked as she listened to him speak of how he could spot a Veela a mile away, and how he played it cool around her because he indeed was that cool. Val knew better, and like him, she had learned a few things in her time.
"Shame all vampires aren't like you," she said, revealing her own assumption about him as they made it through the Cauldron. "And don't fret you're not the first I've hung out with. You see, in my line of work I don't have to go to the creatures of darkness... they usually come to me."
