Always having thought of himself as special for being the son of a vampire, Miles also had a certain amount of pride about having left his family behind and gone much farther then his parents would have believed. Thus he took pride in his form as an animagus as well, one of the largest owls in the world and his larger then even most of those. Since most vampires took on creatures of the night it fit, though few chose owls. He had never met another animagus in his life that chose anything that was larger then a Great Grey Owl either, but that just added to his ego. Miles was, compared to most, a fine specimen of a large vampire, well muscled and sleek.
And a character in personality, a mover with the ladies for sure.
"I would have thought that part might be rather obvious," he said with a chuckle, "Diagon isn't know for late night eateries and there isn't a better night time pastry shop around except in the muggle areas. After we snatch those, a park is going to be far more enjoyable then walking down a street of the wizarding kind I personally find. Knowing you are the baddest thing around adds a certain element to a walk, especially if we have any stupid muggers around."
He rather enjoyed the entertainment of muggers personally.
"However if you have a better place to walk, simply choose. I just chose the food, of course, you are more then welcome to choose the place." As they passed rapidly through the pub and out onto the street he pondered her words with a frown. "It's not like we're going out with them, but a witch nor a wizard should ever hesitate to go anywhere just because of the company." Purebloods and their quaint but racist ideals. One could say that Miles was a commoner, but the truth was he considered everyone an equal opportunity food source.
Why quibble over the bouquet?
When she guessed vampire he gave her a casual glance as if disappointed, but in truth he was wondering why she thought that. It certainly helped with not being caught by her magic, but he still felt it. "What a curious conclusion on a dinner date," he added neither denying nor admitting to it, "do you believe those creatures are immune to a veela's charms?" He tilted his head adding "And in your line of work I would think you would see all types since you deal in clothing. Besides, much of your stock can be used in the current fad of neo-victorian styles so there are a lot of day and night time folks I can imagine going to you for things."

Val liked Miles' reasoning for being among the Muggles- late night restaurants, scaring off Muggle thieves, and being the baddest thing around as he said. Val imagined some fool trying to attack her, chasing her into a bush, and then her surprising him in her panther form, ripping him to shreds. She now kind of hoped that would happen. "Very well then, handsome," she said. "Let's go see what hell we can raise among then non-magical folk."Val wasn't Pureblood either, so she didn't really look down on others because of their blood. She just saw Muggles as weak because they didn't possess magic. They relied on machines and technology to make then look superior when Val could prove her superiority with a wave of a wand or a mere thought to transform her into a dominant cat. Then there was her delightful singing voice of course. "I'm good with wherever you want to do, Miles," she smiled. "I have a feeling this night is going to be fun no matter what you and I do. And I am getting hungry for a pastry now."Miles wouldn't confirm or deny being a vampire. Cute. Oh well, let him play his game she thought. "I do see a lot of different types in my line of work, along with my... everyday life," she said. "I know a werewolf when I see one... and I know a vampire. But again, don't worry about my little revelation. If I was so damn uptight about dating a vampire, I wouldn't have asked you to begin with."She then stood in front of him, placed her hands on her chest, leaned in and gave him a brief kiss on the lips to prove her words. She seemed to be giving him the big high sign as far as the current plan so he nodded, leading them through the Cauldron fairly quickly. "Yes, being the wolf amongst the flock is always rather entertaining I must say. Hence why I enjoy being out amongst the unknowing." Although enough muggles believed in vampires that they were not always easy to get to, but the criminal element rarely were superstitious until it was far too late.
Then they believed in him quite fervently.
They crossed the muggle street and turned to a small shop front down the block. "They are good, aren't they? Very filling." He still enjoyed spices, except for garlic of course a major failing in New Orleans, but decently safe in most other places. Fortunately this particular cook believed in good old fashioned spices and had probably never been near garlic. "Here, pick what you want," as they arrived and he pointed out the menu on the window, already knowing his order.
Continuing their banter from earlier he grinned in the dark street at her before saying "I just thought it was an odd thing to bring up about your date, not something one normally brings up early on." He kissed her back, fortunately not feeling hungry at the moment after yesterday's repast. "I must say I appreciate your not being uptight or anything," he said rapping on the window to announce they had customers, "as that makes things far easier between us."
When the man opened the order window he rattled off his order, let her say hers, then passed some muggle bills through the window into the hand. As the man shut the window he leaned against the wall and c0cked his head at her. "So, since your shop seems to be a verifiable mix of diversity," he chuckled "are you a news center as well or do you only deal in clothes?"

Oh Val was liking Miles more and more. He was positively wicked. They were going to get along very well.
"We can only home someone starts trouble," she said. "Nothing like toying around with an unsuspecting Muggle."
Val looked over the pastry menu. She was glad to see there were meat ones here as well as dessert pastries. She got so tired of the crap the Bonfire Bakery served.
"The Chicken and Broccoli sounds lovely," she said.
Val enjoyed the kiss in return and looked forward to giving him more. She knew there was the risk of him trying to bite her later, but she would have a surprise for him if he got vicious. She could certainly bite back.
"It does make things easier, doesn't it?" she said, licking her lips.
Val then smirked as Miles asked if her shop was a news center.
"I actually tend to avoid idle news," she said. "Like any good dark witch, I tend to have my little secrets... and know those who have theirs. It's not the best idea to run one's mouth in my part of Diagon." Val had no qualms about revealing she was a dark witch. Most everyone who had entered her shop knew she was. Most of them just didn't know she was in the Black Army.

The feelings of power while amongst the muggles was very much a vampire sort of thing and he reveled in the feelings of ignorance around him as they walked as always. As she spoke about hoping someone started something he smiled, nodding. "Would make for a memorable evening I must admit." Of course there were lots of ways that could also be a problem, especially when it came to hiding bodies. One of the last things he ever wanted was to make more get out of criminals and idiots.
So no burying.
"One chicken and broccoli, one steak and tribute. The second one rare, please." It was as close as he could get to alcohol these days, a shame but there it was and if they got it rare enough he'd get some tasty red sauce mixed in as well, never something he objected to. Not the red stuff they intended of course. Licking his lips after their kiss he looked at her, wondering what she was really after. Their conversation was fun, but she came on like she wanted a much more personal contact and he doubted she wanted as personal as it could become.
While he often bit on a first date, those were one time dates since the other didn't survive long enough for a second one. And she didn't seem to be shy about playing it dangerous. So there was something she was after and he pondered this while she answered. "I actually wasn't thinking about idle news so much as pertinent to what is going on behind the scenes shall we say. I've never been interested in gossip. People who shop though don't always go just for purchasing."

Val smirked at Miles ordering the steak rare. Why not raw? Val thought it was all about the blood for vampires. Then again, a Muggle would probably give him hell by telling him how dangerous it was to eat uncooked food. Ugh... so many things one couldn't do around Muggles... yet.
"If this place is to my liking, I just might have to come back," she said. "Though it might be hard to tell if I like it for the food or the company. Who knows by the end of the night I might just want to go anywhere with you."
Val then leaned back and raised an eyebrow as Miles spoke of things going on behind the scenes.
"Perhaps that's what I was referring to," she said. "But if you're really that curious, if there are any dark happenings going on behind the scenes, it doesn't happen at my shop... at least that I know of." Val was actually telling the truth here. If the Black Army met, they met at Headquarters or they met at Burke's shop. A shop like Val's that was technically in Diagon wasn't the best idea for a meeting place.

The tribute was a local ale they steeped the meat in so he knew it would be a potent smell in a minute, but Miles turned from the window and listened to her speak. Her eyes were quite curious and he could understand why. "Cornish pasties, while tasty, have certain things you can have in them and certain thing you can not. They are very touchy about their traditions." He shrugged, smiling. The fact they had a chicken and broccoli one on their menu showed they were willing to make modern versions not labeled as Cornish.
Ah the UK! Such a quaint country in their sticking to the past.
"Considering the number of continents I have been on, anywhere takes on a new meaning indeed!" He chuckled, teasing her a bit. "At the moment I have business interests in the nearby countries so I'm not going too far anytime soon. Contacting me is easy enough." His inquiry about information brought him more then he had expected. Miles frowned, not pleased to hear it.
And rather glad he had elements in the castle loyal to him in particular, even if unwillingly.
"Ah well, I was more thinking that any place these creatures gathered, as you mentioned, would be a natural place to hear the latest news on the local area. Children of the night don't tend to use the same way of passing stuff on that some do." Hence his business and it's popularity amongst both the dead and the living; anyone who wanted a secure line of communication in the wizarding world or not would find his system quite impressive.

Val really didn't know about pastry customs and traditions and whatever. All she knew was that chicken and broccoli was on the menu and she liked chicken and broccoli.
"New owners maybe?" she shrugged, showing she really didn't care for the subject either. "If it offends them to serve it, maybe they should take it off the menu."
Again, she could give a damn about what any Muggle thought... or most magical folks for that matter.
Val smirked when Miles said he could take her most anywhere. She had to keep that in mind. A night in Paris perhaps? Or Hong Kong? It sounded very tempting.
"Well, perhaps some time we can plan a trip... as long as we don't end this night trying to kill each other," she said.
Val laughed and shook her head.
"Miles, most people who come into my shop come in to buy alternative clothing that they think will make them look special and unique," she said. "They shop, they buy, they leave. The only ones who stick around to talk are friends of mine."

Over the years, there were probably thousands of details Miles had learned about his adopted homeland, the EEC as it now was called. Europe had a million different customs, hundreds of ethnicities, and loads to learn and survive on. A vampire did best by learning to be human sounding. And if you moved as much as Miles did and traveled as a vampire, one learned fast the little details which made a huge difference to not being noticed as a vampire. SO yes, he knew a lot about foods and places all the better to know all about the one human food h could stand. So he had to become a knowledgeable man on the subject of pasties.
So when she spoke he rolled the subject back and forth in his mind a moment before saying "It might take too long to explain. It's not so much a matter of offense as pride. But in any case, it's there, take advantage of it." That suited what he had seen of her personality so far; see a chance, snatch it. He chuckled though about the killing. "Ha yes, that would put a damper on travel plans I have to admit, but you also seem to think I'm going to bite you," he grinned, "so why you would risk being so close to me on a long trip I don't know."
She had spoken at the beginning about being dark and special, but now she spoke about being a simple clothing outlet retailer, but he wasn't buying it. She had other plans, one could tell in the way she prided herself on her abilities and potential. Something else was certainly up, but if she wanted to pretend to be something she was not, so be it. "Ah and here I was getting a false impression about you! So how much of your stock do you make personally and how much do you repair?"

Val said no more about the customs and traditions. She had her own "isms" after all, and pretty much followed those. She could care less about what others were proud of or stuck to. She only wished to stay out of just enough trouble not to get caught. After all, she did enjoy owning a store a lot more than rotting away in Azkaban.
She smiled as Miles spoke of her not wanting to bite him.
"Well... maybe I want to leave all the biting to me," she said with a sexy smirk. "As the risk of sounding blunt, Miles, if I wasn't well prepared for you attempting to turn me, I wouldn't have gone out with you tonight. Vampires, Werewolves, Goblins, and Devils, I've dealt with them all..." She then stroked his cheek. "But I will say that none have been as charming as you."
Val chuckled when he asked about stock and repair.
"I'm not boring you with that, and besides I see where you are going with this," she said. "Yes, I'm a woman who is all business when it comes to my business. What I am outside of my shop is what defines me personally. You seem so interested in figuring me all out, Miles, and all I can tell you is you'll know more when... if you and I become closer." She then followed that again with a kiss, this one longer.
(Then we can move on from the meal after this. Maybe do something dark to a Muggle to add some action.)

He chuckled at her bite comment, though he had already decided against sleeping with her. She wasn't fitting into the pureblood mentality so many of the dark wizarding lines enjoyed flaunting, but that didn't mean she didn't have other plots running. Mostly the dark wizards and witches might consider his kind somewhat minor-allies, but they always kept something ready to strike out too and he was too old to put himself in such a position so while she was pleasant to converse and spend time with, his guard had not really gone down since she brought up the vampire question.
However, there was a current joke that fit in so well with what she was saying...
"What, I have no chance of turning you to the dark side? I promise you, our cookies are very satisfying..." He smiled with humor in his eyes, but an edge of seriousness as well. He might not be a dark wizard so much as more neutral in the affairs of humans, but he dallied with both sides when possible. "Hmm, charming I can deal with, I must say you make it easy to play the role, my dear." She caught onto his meanings however and as she moved in for a deeper kiss, he obliged, holding his reply for a moment. He would rarely refuse a woman a chance to sample what he could do after all!
And the kiss was maybe a trifle longer then she might have expected as he added to it, letting her sense he was well prepared for long make out sessions should she choose to follow through sometime. As the kiss broke when the window opened and the food was produced, he said softly "I do enjoy a challenge and puzzles are often the most fun to, shall we say, unwrap..." He grinned and turned, already knowing by smell which was hers and his, handing her one with a handful of napkins as the man re-shut the window.
- - Later on - -
The trip into Hyde Park was well lit as always, one of the more populated parks in the early evening, but as they reached the river side turn it became more to his liking. A thick fog began covering the walk as people became far less frequent. "Ah, lovely," he said with every sound of enjoyment, "London does the best fogs. Almost makes me feel homesick..." And as the fog coalessed, the benches became more isolated as well. A smile came to his voice as he said to her softly "Ah seems you might be in luck for the entertainment part, my dear, I hear four heartbeats running rapid about seventy five yards ahead on the right. Any choice on which side or what tactics you would like to take on?"
They were young, youthful heartbeats of those revving themselves up to do something, maybe to passerby or maybe not, but the scene felt right to him, a nice place and time for a real snack and maybe something for later...

Val smirked about the dark side.
"You don't need to drag me to the dark side, baby," she said. "I'm already there.... and the sweets there can indeed be VERY satisfying."
Val then smiled about unwrapping the puzzles. Oh yes, she and this man were going to have some fun tonight.
"I look forward to your... puzzle unwrapping skills... later," she said, winking at Miles. Why tease him any longer? Both knew what was going to happen by the night's end, and neither no longer needed their respective powers of manipulation.
Later...
Val had to agree she liked the fog as well. Fog was very beneficial to the Black Army. She was about to say something to Miles when she saw him sense people nearby. He spoke of their luck and strategy in how to go about it. Val knew all about strategy.
"We appear on both ends, use our respective charm, and then attack," she said. "You have your blood, I have my fun, and we both head back to my place with me in a very good... and playful mood. Sound fun?"

Smiling at her talk about sweets, Miles let that part go knowing he already had been there many times. He considered himself more on the fence between the two sides, but his nature was a different matter for most humans. Vampires were often regulated to the darker arts automatically by their food source and who could blame them really? Still, he felt he had the best side compared to most humans who had such a short time and weak bodies to deal with time. If anything her talk about sweets just underlined she had no idea what a textured brownie or cookie the real darkness contained.
Humans could be so cute.
She teased back about looking forward to his skill later on and he laughed softly. There was more art to it with a gentle teenager then he needed with this woman who certainly seemed forward enough. Oddly enough, he preferred breaking in and taking innocence then experience, but she certainly was interested enough. The clueless were just infinitely more fun to take apart to the point they lost control completely. "Every puzzle is certainly unique..." he said leaving it open for later.
- - in the park - -
Listening to the excitement in her voice he smiled to himself. "Sounds good to me. Let's let them make the first move, always more surprising for them to realize what they took for easy targets aren't so easy..." As they passed near them he spoke loudly to make sure the boy's couldn't miss them saying "I don't know about you, but I'm tired, maybe we should head back before my meds kick in..." He heard the boys' breathing and speeding up heartbeat as they took a last glimpse at each other before two stepped out in front of them with a knife.
"Hold it right there, Pops, we want to have a friendly talk with you." The other two stepped out behind, walking the last few steps rather quickly to close the gap. "Yeah, just a friendly talk," as one of the other boys smiled. "Pops? No, I think I would have taught my kids much better then you. Talk eh? Why would you need a talk with a knife held out same time?" Miles held out his hands enjoying the moment. "After all, surely you don't think I could win against you with just my hands do you? I think I need my teeth at least..."
The two behind him laughed softly, thinking this would be amusing at the least.
The leader snorted. "Is that so? At least I didn't call you gramps, old man, and since you're so smart, why don't you just slowly pull out your wallet and we'll cut the comedy bit out, eh?" Miles grinned and his fangs showed a little, but only the second one in front of them took the meaning. Paling slightly he started to say "Uh...Bigs...", but Miles interrupted him by speaking to his companion. "Oh I want these two, one of them needs manners at the least."

Val stepped away and let Miles have his fun with the two who were attempting to attack him. One of the two asked her where she thought she was going, but she ignored him. There were of course two other Muggle muggers waiting behind some bushes to jump her. They made their presence known and made some lewd comments to her. She simply smirked at them.
"You want me, boys, better come and get me," she said playfully before she began to run. The run was equally playful and the two guys thought she was crazy. Still, they ran after her. She disappeared behind one of the bushes and then whistled to the boys. The guys put away their knives, thinking they wouldn't need them to for this prey. With big grins, they stepped around. However, instead of seeing a beautiful witch, they saw a large, black panther.
Val was no longer playful... she was vicious. With a low growl, she leaped on them. What followed was something an innocent passerby did not want to witness. Needless to say, this was the last night those two young men would cause trouble in that park or any park.

Once she had turned on the other two, Miles through himself at the one with the knife, catching him off guard and sucker punching him easily, breaking the wrist with a chop down to stop him suddenly remembering his knife. Without hesitating he caught the other by the back of his shirt at the neck as he turned to flee and yanked him back off his feel. Grabbing the first bu the foot he dragged them both off the path leaving only the knife. In the bushes he knocked out the skittish one with a chop at the neck.
With his wand in hand, he finished off the 'gramps' punk from the neck, fastidiously getting no blood on his outfit and then transformed the now dead body into a small cage. The skittish one he then turned into a frog, locked him in said cage, and in less then five minutes he was out and sitting on the bench, using the knife to clean his fingernails as she finished her fun time. Hoping she knew to cover up bodies so it did look exactly like a wild animal he waited till she was finished.
One should never rush a woman, of course, It was only polite.
Most people would be surprised if they knew how easy it was to drain a body speed wise, but it was one of the better tricks of a vampire that less then two minutes was required when one was a ) already full from two girls this week and B ) not in a hurry to top off. The other would be a lovely snack for the next two days (and a horror crushing blow to his mind and soul) while he waited in the cage. It also meant he could dismember and scatter the 'cage' later to prevent another vampire from arising later on.
When she returned he looked up and over her from the bench saying "I trust you enjoyed yourself? Nothing like a little fun to make one's heart run a bit faster..." He could hear hers as her excitement at the event ran a little faster then before.
