Katrina was very happy to hang out with Katalina alone. She had met the girl at Thorn's dismal party some time back and found the girl very enjoyable to be around. However, since the beginning of the year the two had not gotten to hang out with each other with no one else around. Katrina had her art club and Katalina had her Quidditch. The two had agreed to make it a point to spend some time together.
Kat was walking out of the Three Broomsticks, holding the door for her friend. The dinner had been really great. Well the food was the same, but the convo was great. Kat enjoyed catching up some. Sadly it was now getting late and was almost curfew time. And Kat definitely didn't want to get in trouble missing curfew her final year. Still, they could chat more on the walk back.
"So anyway..." said Kat finishing a conversation. "That's why I stay away from firewhiskey. Ali is a wonderful friend and all, but not always the best influence." Kat looked up at the darkening sky. "So you ready to head back?"

She couldn't remember the last time she had spent so much time with a girl, and it be genuine. Usually there was alcohol involved for this much niceness, or if there wasn't, it didn't end well. However, she had not consumed anything funny, her blood to food ratio was normal, and she didn't feel like scratching Katrina's eyes out. Over all, it felt like a pretty successful outing. She had to say that she didn't have any real friends here, yet. Sure she met a few people who seemed nice, but no one who would be considered an actual friend for her. Though, Katrina seemed like a good possibility of one.
The girl held the door open for her, and, with a spin, Kat reached out her arm to hold the door for her friend. Her eyes glanced up at the sky. She hadn't realized just how dark it had gotten. It must have been late. Almost curfew at least. Now curfew wasn't something she particularly liked, but she had to blend in. Then again, curfew wasn't something she usually abided by. She finished her sentence, and Kat giggled along with her. “Sure sounds like fun though.” She glanced up at the castle, and nodded her head. “Yeah I guess we should be heading back now. Don't want the aurors on..” Kat's sentence trailed off because something else caught her attention.
It was a light whisper, no human would be able to hear it. Someone whispered the cruciatus curse. Then there was a faint trace of screaming. Someone was being tortured. Now Kat couldn't let Katrina know that she was hearing something the other girl couldn't. As far as she knew, the brunette didn't know that she was in the company of a vampire, and Kat didn't feel like this was the most appropriate time to share that bit of news. She started looking around to see if she could see something. She had become curious.

Kat of course didn't hear the curse whispered, having no special abilities that altered her senses. However, she didn't them once she heard the screams of the person who took the curse. The screams were of the most intense of pain. Kat never felt she was a hero, far from it, but to know someone was in enough pain to scream like that and just walk away would have been heartless. Kat looked at the other Kat and then turned back toward the sound.
"We need to go help," she said. Her usual dry tone was now one of concern and slight fear for what the two might see when they stepped over. Fortunately Kat showed up just as whatever dark force who inflicted the curse got what information they wanted and apparated out. The person, a young female student no older than thirteen was laying there and shaking. The curse had been lifted once the child had given the info, but the student could still feel bits of the utter pain.
"Easy now," said Kat as she sat by the person and tried to comfort them as best she could. Kat wasn't really good at comforting people.

The blond wasn't sure if she should tell Katrina what she heard. However, when she looked over at the other girl she saw an expression of recognition. Katrina definitely heard the screaming. What she said next was sort of what Katalina was afraid she would say. Usually Kat wasn't especially opposed to helping people, but she was a but adverse to putting herself in danger in the process.
As they were walking over, Kat heard a faint pop. She breathed a little easier knowing that whoever was casting the curse was gone. Sure enough, when they rounded the corner, they saw the man disappear in thin air. Looking down to the ground she saw a little girl, no older than thirteen. She was in an immense amount of after pain. It was something Kat remembered from her human days.
She grabbed the girl's hand with one of hers, and the girl's chin with her other. A good grip would have stopped the girl from shaking, and help steady her. "Relax. He's gone." she glanced at Katrina before looking at the girl. She was still in a good bit of pain. Now Kat could probably take her pain away with her blood, but that would seriously freak Katrina out.

Katrina knelt and did what she could to calm the girl, but the girl could not calm down. Kat had a wild guess as to why, and the girl then confirmed it.
"Cruc.... Cruciatus Curse," said the girl wide-eyed. "The woman... she made me tell everything..."
"Well... she's gone now," said Katrina as comforting as he voice could get. She then looked at her friend. "We need to get her to the nurses. Maybe someone can do something." Kat doubted it though. She had heard about the damn curse so many times in DADA. Only the caster could remove it. Then again, maybe whoever the evil woman who cast it was did and the girl was just feeling the after-effects.
"Come on, Katalina," she said. "Let's help her up." She looked at the girl. "Can you walk?" The girl nodded and allowed them to help her up. "While we're heading back to Hogwarts, if you need to talk about it, we'll listen." Kat tried to give a comforting smile. Again, she wasn't used to playing this role. Kat was a nice enough girl and all, but she just didn't find herself helping out cursed people that often in the past.

Kat's eyes darted around the area just in case. Sure, it was probably just the fact that she had a defenseless, hurt child shaking in her hands, which kept her on high alert, but she was still tense. After all, she could still concentrate on more than one thing at a time. She could be coiled like a rattlesnake in case of another attack, while still trying to get the girl away from the scene. The shaking should stop soon though, not like the curse stuck, but she would still have a hell of a lot of residual soreness for the next few days. Poor thing would barely be able to move.
Katrina suggested that they take her up to the hospital wing. “Alright.” Whether the girl could walk was irrelevant. Kat had no problem lifting the girl, throwing one of her arms over her shoulder, and wrapping her other arm around the girl's body. She took on a good seventy percent of her weight. She looked at the girl's face. “Can you tell us your name? Or maybe how you got here?” The little girl nodded her head sightly, and when her voice came out it was barely above a whisper, but it was shaky. She managed to stammer out that her name was Hannah, and something about a letter from her father asking her to meet him out there. “Obviously, that was a fake.” outfit

Kat walked with her friend and the frightened girl and listened to her name and the story. Kat didn't want to play Auror, but she did find the whole fake letter thing intriguing. Why would someone do something like that to this girl? What were they trying to find out? What did the girl know? Would it affect others at Hogwarts? The situation was beginning to creep Kat out a bit, and Kat wasn't easily scared.
"What was this person trying to get out of you?" she asked. "Sorry, just assuming she was trying to find out something since he did... you know... that particular curse. Maybe we can tell the Deputy Headmaster about it and see what can be done." Kat hadn't really spoken to the man yet, but she supposed this would be a decent reason to interrupt him.
"No... don't tell!" shouted the girl suddenly. "My family... they'll be in great... just don't tell."
"Um... okay, don't worry," said Kat. She obviously knew what Hannah was about to say, and being one who recently lost her mother, she didn't want anyone to go through what she had. Kat looked at Katalina. "I think we should see if one of the house elves can make her some cocoa and just let her calm down a little."
