This side of the evening sky dyed an incipient golden orange, as duskiness envelops the passageway. The candle lantern in her left hand glowed its flickering flames. All around was a thickness of quiet, an unbreakable silence that bespoke the emptiness in her heart; an obnoxious nothingness.
For a couple of weeks, Dementors perpetually haunted her dreams; jolting her awake to tear-stained sheets. In her dreams; she fled the grounds, screaming hollowed air out of her lungs, felt her legs gave in right before the castle doors slammed shut... The last thing she remembered before darkness enclosed her vision, was her wand rolling haplessly away from her outstretched hand.
Anna fought against the night chill, pacing herself forward along the passageway towards the library. Her skin tingled as the cold atmosphere breathed eagerly around her, a familiar tingle reminding her of the passage of a ghost. Her right arm steadied to protect the fire against the rushing wind. Unbeknownst to many, Anna had not used magic outside of the classroom for quite a while now, fearing the currents of tragedy that sometimes still flashed whenever she used her wand.
On the road to perdition, the only solace she could find is in her constant companions. Books. But there was only so many books to read. Reading all the books would not provide a solution to this intractable quandary. Scrutinising the thinnest margin would not force her nightmares away. Yet still, books were one thing she is sure of – whereas the only surety revolving Raphael’s existence was a frightening apparition. A ghost of the past; impossible to be buried, unable to exhume.
Entering the library gave Anna an astounding sense of belonging and comfort; she loved the silence and the solitude, the stitched scripts and bound volumes. She got through book after book, holding expectancy of the excitement offered by each one of them – and soon, one book disappeared in a giant stack of books on her desk. Expectancy. A graceful smile adorned her face as she swiped a thin layer of dust off the bronze leather binding of ‘The Dark Lord: Looking at Hogwarts from Voldemort’s Perspective’; her little heart was sent aflutter at the thought of looking at life from Voldemort’s perspective – the fact that it happened a lifetime ago enthralled her endlessly.
Unclasping the fastener, she turned to the first page, which read:
“To the brightest of brightest, fairest of fairest, whose eyes so loved the shadows, whose feet trod starless dusks?”
As she turned each page diligently, she was distant to the student that took a seat beside her – seemingly oblivious to her enjoyment in solitude. Anna continued to read, simply captivated by the musings of the young Tom Riddle, giving absolutely no attention to her surroundings at the moment.

Thorn didn't enter the library expecting to sit next to a Ravenclaw. He cared little for those in any House besides Slytherin, well except for a few here and there. And being sixteen, he was certainly in no mindset to entertain a fourth year. However, that all changed when he happened to pass by a Fourth Year Ravenclaw who was captivated by a certain book, a book Thorn was highly surprised was being read in the non-restricted part of the library.
As part of the Black Army, Thorn was to help in recruiting others students for the cause. The more young minds who could join The Dark Lady's cause, the stronger the army. So, putting aside his usual dislike for Ravenclaws, he stepped over to her and sat down.
"Interesting choice of reading material," he said. "But I must say it is refreshing to see a Fourth Year so intrigued by such a dark perspective." He then bowed her head to her a bit. "Thaddeus Thorn. I hope you don't mind me joining you."

“The world shall crouch at the mercy of my feet; a virtuous reality without Muggles, an audacious new existence for humankind. All will be mapped according to my devices, perfectly contrived to make my name known. It will be mouthed in fear, in all corners of earth; and the unruly shall taste the brutality of death. Beg they will, their face swathed in black blood and –
The gentle voice of the stranger snatched her away from Tom’s dark thoughts and thirst for power; jarringly without warning. Yet the softness aroused an instinct deep within her, impatiently beckoning her heart to admonition. “ Thaddeus Thorn.. I’ve heard of him. Sixth Year, Slytherin.. So well-mannered. But judging from rumours, allegations claim he’s rather shady.. ,” she contemplated. Anna perceived an air of authority as he carefully slurred his words and commanded his manners, even so the aura of enigma surrounding him frightened her a trifle. “Anna.” She turned to face him; addressing him softly, as calmly as possible. Anna usually regarded distraction with an aversion, especially so with the sense of monition; but she had always loved meeting new people and being open, that she was not bothered by the little intrusion. He seemed to share her passion about books, which rather excited her – or perhaps his reading selection did originate from the darker spectrum. Nevertheless, curiosity superseded her wariness and she began to let the edges of her guards down. “If you’ve read most of the books here, you’ll start taking chances on the strangest ones – like this one,” she smiled, turning up the blazing bronze leather of the book for Thaddeus to see, “ and those are really the most memorable ones. But the ones in the Restricted Section – those, I’d absolutely love to read.” She looked at him, wondering what had enticed this unusual companion into her safe haven. Anna wished to ask, yet a strange conviction led her to resolve to remain observant before inquiring. She waited for him to speak. @thorn

Looking at her, Thorn could see an exquisite darkness in the girl, and also knew she was reading him as well. Perhaps a Ravenclaw too smart for her own good? Or perhaps a potential Dark Witch with the cleverness to back it all up. Thorn was stay with her for the moment to see if it was the latter.
"Pleasure," said Thorn when Anna introduced herself. He then smirked as she spoke of how one took chances on strange books. "I hardly need to take such chances, at least with this collection. I come from a family who has written several books on Dark Magic and its Spells. With their passing, I have inherited their personal library along with the rest of the family's wealth and possessions." Thorn raised his hand. "Please understand, I am not boasting about such fortune. I'm merely stating that while I fully agree with you that more forbidden books are far more intriguing, I need not seek them here." He then removed one of his family's books from his bag and showed it to her. The title read, Magic Made In Blood: The Violent Enchantments. "This particular one was written by my great uncle, Levith Thorn. If the Ministry knew of its existence, it would no doubt be illegal as well. Feel free to have a look."

“ Levith... Thaddeus... Thorn?” Anna remembered, there and then. The reference of a few names prompted a spiralling memories of the historic curse that befell the family. A wealthy family plagued with marauding deaths, the abounding possessions being passed along the generations; not unlike floras that perish upon the laying of seedlings, its riches slowly squandered with each passing. Anna was extremely eager to learn more of his family, of its dark heritage and majestic inheritance; all so sinfully compelling. Anna considered to ask Thaddeus, especially so as he did not appear the least fazed – even showing a glimpse of merriment – at the mention of the passing of his family. Even so, as much as her inquisitiveness propelled her, she deemed it ill to ask such sensitive questions to someone she barely knows – especially one whom she should still be wary of. Yet the tempest was graciously calmed as Thaddeus continued to offer her the finest piece of antique art – an audacious crimson volume bound with Moroccan leather – its title embossed in ashen black, marked: “Magic Made In Blood: The Violent Enchantments”. She studied it cautiously, as a doe would delicately traipse around its fawn; gently touching her fingers on its leather binding to surrender herself to the enticement…
I, Levith Thorn, speak for every wizard and witch; as I beckon you to partake in a journey I have accomplished. A transcendent thrill I have ascertained in the dark arts; as I relentlessly pursue the engagement of the shadow and accept revelry in the inexhaustible power of force and fury. Delight with me, as I whisper to you the grand arcanum to the bending of minds, the twisting of souls, the offering of blood; to a certain climax of absolute dominion and repose, which you may eternally possess. Discover that the Unforgiveable Curses are as they plainly are – unforgiveable, neither omnipotent nor unassailable. I shall impart upon you, through these pages, the power to cast blood-curdling magic so sovereign and violent – no names has been given them, and no calls have been dared. May the eclipse daily dwells in you, flowing into the hollow in your restless minds.
Anna looked at Thaddeus, awestruck in wonder at this curious stranger; who seemed to be part of something much more enormous than herself, who seemed to wield much more glorious riches for her to savour, who seemed so sublimely and seductively malevolent.

Thorn watched Nienna as she read the opening, her face showing the same fascination his did when he discovered this and other books like it in the family library at an early age. He was almost enticed to let her borrow it, and who could protest if he did? He now owned all the books in the library and could do as he wished with them. However, for now he had to be cautious until he could be sure that he could trust this Ravenclaw. However, if he couldn't allow her to borrow it at the time, perhaps an alternative idea was suitable.
When she turned to look at him, he gave her a wickedly charming smile.
"I have several others here at Hogwarts," he said. "I'm sure you'd be just as interested in them as well. I have a spot where I like to read them, a little unused room on the Sixth Floor. Perhaps we can meet there when you desire to read them. Perhaps we can converse on more private issues than we can in this library." As he said that, she turned to a Hufflepuff girl nearby who vainly tried to act as if she was looking for a book and not eavesdropping. Foolish girl from a foolish House.

The Dark Arts were not something which she had been particularly fond of; especially as her trauma necessitated her mastery in the art of its defences, not of its attacks. Not to mention, Anna had learned from a myriad of books that most dark wizards presented peril and overwhelming fearfulness in the hearts of the people. Yet it was as if Thaddeus had worked out a perfect path into her mind, leaving a little room for her to crawl out and escape. Her green eyes twinkling, Anna nearly shrilled with excitement at the irresistible allurement. Right along; books like this would always send a shiver down her spine, a chill of pernicious foreboding into the ambience – yet this time, all she felt was an inexplicable tingle of exhilaration running across the nape of her neck. The inquisitiveness in her quickly overtook every primal urges to refuse his proposition – after all; she might discover a way to disremember her past, or she could read these to simply discover more about the Dark Arts. Even though Anna was afraid to open herself up to risks; the invitation seemed too good to reject. “ Would love to,” Anna blurted out, “ but I think I have a good suggestion.” She smiled, having noticed the scorn forming on his face while looking at the Hufflepuff girl. Lowering her voice even further, she gestured for him to come closer, “ Have you heard of the hidden passage behind the mirror?” She put on the sweetest smile she could manage, and carried on, “ Found that one out when one of my books fell off nearby. I reckon there won’t be any sneaking Grindylows over there.” As she said all these; her heart beat with a quickened cadence, her head imagining the abundance of things she would read and talk about with her senior. @thorn

Thorn raised an eyebrow when Nienna suggested the famous... or perhaps infamous Mirror Passage in the castle as a hiding place to read dark books and chat.
"Oh indeed I have heard of it," he said. "And so you have found it? Most interesting. I believe I'll take you up on your suggestion. Shall we meet tomorrow perhaps? I'll bring a few more books and we can make our way there."
Regardless or how proper or sinister Thorn was, he was also a sixteen year old boy, and not only did he find Nienna to be delightfully dark, but quite beautiful as well. She had shunned many beautiful girls at the school because they had Muggle blood or were of an inferior House or some other issue. But at the moment, he saw no flaw in Nienna, and desired to be around her a great deal.
"Until then, may I have the honor of escorting you back to your House?" he asked, offering his arm.

“ In a wink, I promise,” Anna whispered to him, touching his outstretched arm gently. Closing the bound volumes of “ Magic Made in Blood: The Violent Enchantments”, Anna could not help but wondered briefly about the boy who showed her the dark book. Had she owned countless numbers of such books, she would retain them safely, hidden away in a private sanctuary. Yet Anna put the thought away instantly, at the back of her innocent mind; and resolved to learn more about Thorn during their next meeting.
She handled the book gracefully, careful not to taint or blemish the precious inheritance; and held them out for Thaddeus to keep it safely ensconced within his bag. Deftly and cheerfully, Anna sorted the tall pile of books on her desk into several stacks and moved them over to the returning location. His presence had granted her some things to wonder about, and her mood was elevated to a great extent – perhaps it was simply the book, or perhaps it was the boy himself.
“Shall we?” she chimed, smiling as she looked up to face Thorn; his arm held out for her. Highly amazed at his courtesy, Anna beamed again as she took his arm and they walked back to her House. Walking beside Thorn; thoughts gyrated in her head, every hint of consciousness screaming to turn her away from the impending darkness. Her naïveté; however, took away all precautions and Anna decided to commit her trust to him, at least temporarily. Little did she know then, the great darkness which had been laid in store for her future.
“Tomorrow is perfect,” Anna chirped. She added then, a subtle rosiness forming in her cheeks, “Thank you, Thaddeus, for your kind invitation, and for revealing your treasured book to me...” She lingered for a full moment before continuing pleasantly, “You've been most thoughtful.”
After a long, unwinding declension along a pathway to her shadowed past; she could finally see glimpses of light between the cracks as happiness began to substantiate, trickling upon the weight of her haggard heart. @thorn (Yes we can! )

Thorn smiled as Nienna took his arm. On the way up to Ravenclaw Tower, he spoke of his family and the history they had with the dark arts, speaking quietly enough to avoid ears that she felt had no business listening to him. His revelations about his wicked family showed that he confided in this girl... or perhaps that by showing he trusted her, she knew she could trust him. And this was quite true. Thorn could be the very devil himself, but those who shared his dark personality could indeed trust in him to be a considerable ally.
At the end of the walk, he gave her hand a gentlemanly kiss.
"Parting leaves us broken, our souls torn apart and shred. It leaves us longing for reunion, so we may be relieved of such painful dread," he said. "Malvelous March, from To A Lover In Torment. A favorite poem of mine. Good night, Anna."
The next day...
Thorn, holding a bag of books and a wrapped box containing some rather expensive chocolate candies delivered by an apparating delivery man from a highly acclaimed sweet shop to the elite in Germany, stood outside the Ravenclaw Common Room and awaited the girl he had quickly come to fancy.

The wealthy Thorn family had been haunted by more than a century of cursed chronicle – as Thaddeus had told Anna in his spellbinding retelling of the family history – having carried her through several treacherous lives and ancient pursuits of power. At the house of his inheritance stood a private library, a palace of intricate leather bindings and endless assortment of dark scriptures. The book he presented to her was the gateway drug to hard-core, dark literature – whose serpentine malice glided effortlessly into the emptiness in her heart, coiling itself swiftly into a lair of its own; setting its fiery wind of maleficence to assail her very veins.
"Lovely is the voice of the devil, tarry in hushed tenderness, The warm breath of a mortal, tatter the strongest defenses." For all the times Anna had felt lost, sailing through life without an aim; she felt that everything was worth this moment of bliss. As if she had been misplaced all along, a misfit in the great big world. She knew Thaddeus could grant her comfort and pleasure; and she proudly reveled in his magnificence, willing to abandon herself and allow him to change the way she experienced the world. "Assuredly," Anna breathed back to him, "our fragile souls shall shatter, for so they have been stitched. Yet should that moment arrive, let me hold fast to yours, that I may live on." She lingered by the Grey Lady, reluctant to part with the boy whom she had just met – whose arms she had endearingly accepted – the boy who trusted her enough to reveal his history. At long last; she decided to relent from keeping Thaddeus in wait, as she breathed in one last view at the handsome figure of the boy. "Good night, Thaddeus."
Time had seemed to vanish as Anna remained spending her time in his presence, as if it had been drained; along with the merriment of the moment, into a lasting desolation of the future. Only to him she would confide fully, only to him she would brandish her trust and faithfulness. Before her, dreams of a gilded gate appeared. It yielded two certain arms of road – both of which opened to either indelible despair, or endless destruction.
The next day...
Anna had gotten up early that morning, at long last having a night of restful slumber – one she had not had since one month past. Anxious to see the boy she had been dreaming of the entire night, Anna adorned her best and stepped out of the Grey Lady to set out and look for Thorn – only to find the boy already awaiting her; ever so sweetly, ever so patiently.
She noticed her favorite box of chocolate candies in his hands, which she had always munched on while her father recounted stories of her Veela grandmother. It was the very thing which reminded her of home; of the sweetness of her childhood and the peace which she had so miserably, desperately desired for so long. Anna was strong; yet he had seemed to manage to know her inside out, unrelenting in his advances. The recollection of home, after a legion of nightly phantasms, built a well of tears inside her. Anna did not want to give in, but fighting an internal war against those nightmares, every single night, had robbed away most of her strength.
A feigning of courage she dared not put before him, yet she could not bring herself to appear frail and imperfect before one whom she had now cared about – especially one so mysteriously powerful and captivating. Struggling against her carnal impulses to flee, she walked towards him with her head slightly bowed; her thoughts grovelling in fear of letting her flaws show. While a battle was pursuing in her mind, she marched on towards him; with a hopeful heart and a rugged determination she mustered up enough courage.
"My bad for having kept you waiting outside, Thaddeus," Anna brought herself to speak. Smiling, she pressed on, "Where did you get these sweets from? Awfully hard to get them around Hogwarts, aren't they?"

Thorn turned and showed no anger in Nienna being a bit late. Seeing her again made any negative emotions that may or may not have been there go away.
"Think nothing of it, my dear," said Thorn. "If anything you made the anticipation of seeing you again all the sweeter." He then presented her with the candy and answered her question as to where he purchased them from. "Faulkstein's Sweet Shop, Berlin. I have a trusted delivery man who brings me candies from there when I do desire them, for a high fee yes, but their sweets are quite worth it, especially when presented as a gift to a lovely young lady as yourself." Thorn smiled and bowed. "Now then, shall we make use of this Mirror Passage? I have a number of books to show you, even more interesting than the one I showed you in the library."
Again, he offered his arm. Thorn never felt he was the type to fall for a girl, and believed if he did it would no doubt be a Slytherin. But he could not deny how much he had come to fancy this Ravenclaw in so short a time.

There was also no denying how deeply Anna had been captivated by Thaddeus. An insurmountable feeling of euphoria would ground her helplessly, forlornly; leaving her desiring for more, whenever he entered her mind.
"I pray, that your experiencing it now is much sweeter than your anticipation," Anna said fondly. Upon being presented with the lavish courtesy, she replied, "Dear Thaddeus, what have I given you, to deserve such sweet benevolence? The young lord does possess the greatest of tastes," and continued, "please, Thaddeus, accept my gratitude with your utmost pleasure." Anna drowned herself in the pleasantness of his voice, in the pulchritude of his words; putting all her fears behind to bask in this glorious moment they had conceived together. For now, she simply could not wait to listen to all which Thaddeus had to tell her. She smiled likewise when he did, revealing her purity and meekness in the brief glimpse. "Yes, indeed we shall. I can't wait to read more of those enchanting books of yours. The beautiful stillness which lives the same instant the words come aloud, echoing in my head..." Anna sighed passionately, her mind restored to being struck by the ardency arising within her; absolutely unconscious towards the immensurate darkness lain in ambush.
Anna looked up at Thaddeus, marvelling quietly if the butterflies in her stomach would ever rest still; her green eyes widened in innocence. Taking his arm with affection, she whispered to him as tenderly as the warm light of dawn, "I trust you, Thaddeus. I know I can."
She led the way and brought Thaddeus to the very mirror itself. Had she been alone, she would stare at her own reflection, unsure of whether to cry or laugh at her own unresolved predicament; but there she was, standing fearlessly by Thaddeus. Somehow it gave her a newfound bravery, a revived righteousness; inviting her self back into being.
He could be her drug, her anesthesia taking over her system; she wondered if she could ever get him off. From under her skin, within her bones, through her heart, from inside her veins.

Thad eyed Nienna and smiled as she asked what she had done to deserve his "benevolence."
"You are... unique," he said. "There are so many lovely ladies among our student body, but they have failed to intrigue me as you have. Their minds are limited to the approved academia taught at this school. You look to the great mysteries of the dark arts. You see them as something more than... wrong.... evil. Physically, you are already a sparkling gem, but those traits I mentioned make you a true diamond in the rough."
Thad bowed when Nienna said she could not wait to see what other books he had with him.
"And I am quite anxious to show you," he said. "The Thorn Family kept many secrets, and as their heir, I now choose who I reveal them to."
When Nienna took his arm and said she could trust him, he gave her a single nod.
"There are truly so few in this world that one can trust, my dear," he said. "But for you, I am one of them." He then leaned in and kissed her forehead.
And with that, they made their way to the passage. Once there, Thad awaited Nienna to reveal the way in.

Her eyes were two lustrous pearls; gazing dearly at Thad, as he regarded her with such unfeigned compliments. She remained in silence, waiting to speak to him in private – not here, not under these prying eyes and interfering ears.
Thus far, every experience had taught her about all that she could be – to be as strong as an Ironbelly, brave as the Centaurs and firm as the Elder tree – and they had brought her here, to this very defining moment. As he kissed her forehead, she had to resist herself from desiring more; regardless of how severely she longed for the taste which left her heart almost shivering in ecstasy. Her consciousness died a little death, as her darker instincts danced its beautiful silhouette. Anna knew then, that she would always come back to Thad – each time a starving soul. "And you have chosen me," she replied regardfully, letting the substance of the thought sink deep into her mind.
She led Thaddeus; pressing her arm softly into his, walking through the shadowed couloir besides the Mirror, darting furtive glances at their surroundings. A scarcely visible, doorless stonewall awaited them at the end; one side of its cold surface embossed with intricate aquiline and serpentine carvings. Letting her wand out cautiously, Anna aimed her wand towards the eye of the eagle, reciting, "Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure."
The white stonewall opened up to reveal the grandeur hidden within; a vast expanse of marbleised floor laid untouched before their very eyes. A charm ought to have let the light in, for sunbeams from the enormous windowless ceilings had seemed to invade the entire territory; shattering themselves into a kaleidoscope of colors, tessellating into an intense burst of vibrant triangles. Smiling brightly at Thad, she stepped forward into the room, looking back at him. Those audacious sunlight invited the innocence in her to come out and felicitate. Looking up longingly through the window, Anna poised her right hand over her squinting eyes, standing entranced under the brilliance of the splendid sun.
When Anna turned back to face Thaddeus, she spoke out, "My thoughts are different from theirs," she paused. "Because everyone else we know, they are taught the same. They read the same, and for all we know, are growing up to do the same old..." Anna wavered before continuing, "There is something buried out there, isn't there, Thad? Something much bigger than our fleeting imaginations and impassioned dreams. Deviant and extortionate I have been, but this heart simply longs to be set free...
Those marvelous books of yours... I felt it then, I saw it, the first time I ever saw you. You are the reason I have been looking for, all these excruciating while, Thad," she breathed. Anna divulged all the thoughts she held in the previous night, barefacedly, placidly; while she stepped closer towards Thaddeus.
