The owlery was not the place that she sought out without good reason. First of all it was always cold, it didn’t matter the time of year it could be January, or July the bloody place was slick with moisture and the dampness clung lowering the temperature. Currently it was treacherous as some yahoo had taken it upon themselves ice down the stairs with a water charm that was no doubt used to make the spiraling staircase into some sort of amusement ride.
Relina’s mood rivaled that of temperature on those lethal stairs so far in her efforts to clear the ice she had slid down them once and ripped the side of her trousers, and as if that wasn’t horrid enough moment following she was assaulted by a first year who thanks to the dreadful stairs was traveling at the speed of light.

Well honestly she thought it was a first year by the time she awoke from her moment of unconsciousness the culprit was long gone, leaving her to only speculate about what to tell people about the shiner she would sport for the days to come. As she cleared another landing free of ice she really question her life choices.

Sure being a prefect was important for her father, particularly with her brother having no desire in keeping father content, with decent marks and taking added responsibility, so naturally that chore fell to her as with most thing that begged of a responsibility. However as she chiseled another section of ice from a few stairs with a blasting hex from her wand her face and hair glittering with ice shards making her look every bit the fictional character of the Snow Queen.

She could finally hear the soft cooing noise of the Owlery after about an hour worth of work and as she pushed open the trap door and clambered inside she was grateful to find that the place was free of ice and quite a bit warmer in temperature than the winter chill that turned her cheeks pink outside.. IT seemed the professors were quick to protect their owls from the fall evening elements.

She noticed that for the start of year the owlery was already showing signs that it needed to be tended too as the droppings had already coated the hay, and it smelled fowl, which made sense as the air was thick with dander and discarded feathers.

Looking for her pretty bird she quietly sang his calling melody. There was a fluster of wings flapping before a large barn owl perched on her shoulder leaning its head in no doubt greedy for snacks. “India” she whispered “pretty thing, you need fresh papers” combing through the feather at the birds neck stroking them gently in a classic preening manner that coaxed a soft coo from the bird. “Shameful to be keeping you living in squalor.”

She turned and made her way across to the large arching glassless window she pulled from her pocket a small bit of parchment and gingerly tied it to the birds extended leg. She leaned hoisting the bird up so it could take flight from her arm instead of the droppings coated window it is then she heard that not so silent. SNAP

Which made her freeze up, but didn’t stop her from taking notice of the loud hissing that followed that snap. She moved to look in the direction of the loud hissing she watched as hay shifted as a not so subtle pile of Fireworks sparked to life.

A flicker of pink light splintered from the glowing mass and launched at her causing her to duck narrowly avoiding taking an eye full of pink light. Without a second glance she gave a quick snap of her arm sending India screeching loudly as she made a hasty if not honorable retreat into the dark sky.

Relina’s large blue eyes wide with shock as she pulled her wand and attempted to drench the mass of fireworks with water but it was too late another rocket erupted from the pile and exploded in a fit of green stars which caused more to ignite, within second it was a spectrum of lights and flapping wings as all the owls tried to escape the owlery from the windows.

Feeling a large feathered thing knock her to the ground she winced as something slightly heavy and warm and slimy slid up and over her shoulder looking up as light of the last firework cooked in the tower’s roof setting just enough light to see what had fallen on her shoulder Relina let out a blood curdling scream at what met her glance.

She horrified slapped the half eaten gnome off her shoulder and scooted to her hands and knees and scooted into one of the corners of the owlery, shivering with fear and disgust she looked wide eyed at the empty owlery baring one figure standing not more than 6 feet away covered in the same mess she was.

“YOU HAVE A LOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO..” She had her wand pointed at the figure. .. Though the threat lasted only seconds before the second part of the gnome fell on her head from the rafter she was standing over causing her to once again let loose a high pitch panicked scream..

Owen had walked up to the owlery to send a message to one of his pals in the United States. He had succeeded in doing so before all hell broke loose. The fireworks, the owls running, Owen falling to the floor as three freaked out owls knocked him over. Once it was over, he rose and found a familiar face aiming her wand at him and telling him he had explaining to do. It was Relina, and he understood her not recognizing him due to the shadow of an owl house covering his face. He stepped out and shook his head.

"Not me, little lady," he said. "I was just up here sending a hello to my boy J-Mack back in New York. If I want to make fireworks, I do so with my music." He walked over and extended his hand to help Relina up. "You alright there, Relina? I think the gnome got the worst of it." He turned to see someone laughing and running down the stairs to avoid being seen... and caught. "There goes your culprit, sweetheart."

Well this was a certainly not at all what she expected. It was one thing to be coated in gnome innards, but it is quite another to be slathered with them while in front of someone, much less someone from her own house. Her fingers trembling as she wiped the gunk from her face she heard it splosh on the ground next to her with a disturbing sound that turned her stomach in a classic flip flop.

Skittering away from the sound she looked up at Owen who seemed just as shocked as she was but the state that had seen her knocked to the ground. She pocketed her wand, and took the hand that he offered looking over her shoulder as the culprit left in a fit of laughter.. She would find out who had caused it and deal with them one on one later..

She watched Owen as he made quick with explaining why he was there.. She nodded not really knowing much about Owen other than he was what many of her house mates referred to as a Yank meaning he was from America and there for an import which made him unique he was fun to listen to with his little accent. " your boy? J-Mack ? " she added with a chuckle. " Well it is bound to be a few before the owls feel confident to come back here, with all that.. " She pulled her wand this time pointing it on herself doing another scourging spell she was left clean but with her hair all frizzed out. " sorry about your note though"

Owen helped her to her feet and smiled as Relina asked about J-Mack.

"Yeah, Jimmy Macintosh back in New York," he said. "I call him J-Mack for short. Dude could play the drums like nobody's business. He and I used to jam at this youth hangout in the magical part of New York called the Poisoned Apple. Those were good times."

He had to agree about the owls.

"I'm sure Hagrid can get'em back," he said. "He's good at talkin' to the animals and all that." He shrugged about the note. "It's all good, little witch mama. J-Mack probably won't write back for another month anyway."

He then looked towards the exit again.

"So you want to go after the dude with the stupid laugh or hang out here and let me idly flirt with ya?" he joked. "Seriously though, why let a day go sour, right? Let's go do somethin' fun."

It was amusing to hear him speak his dialect was truly something to marvel at. She wondered if all Americans had that sound to them where they all sounded so laid back and cool’d. If she hadn’t thought better of making mention of it she would have asked.. But she didn’t after all he was of her house which commanded respect that didn’t mean being pestered with trivial questions about what people sounded like at home. She glanced over her shoulder at the fellow that had left the owlery in a state of anarchy.

“I don’t know. It’s a tossup. I mean the lazy part of me going why on earth would I want to go after some twit whom highlight of his day consisted of playing around in owl poop. I mean I don’t think there is something worse that I can do to him that he already hasn’t done to himself.” She looked at him and smirked.. “Then again if I think I’m in danger if you haven’t began to idly flirt as I’m a flirt myself and its bound to get wretched, and I’ve got enough guy issues as is.. The last thing I need is to be out flirted by a fourth year even if he is a musician..“

Owen smirked back when Relina stated her case about him flirting and how she had guy issues.

"Ain't nothin' but me runnin' my mouth, dollface," he said. "Just givin' a pretty lady her due. But by somethin' fun, I didn't mean sittin' around and lettin' me sweet talk you. I mean just hangin' out, doin' buddy stuff. We're buddies, right? I got a new song I just wrote. I can blast it on the guitar if you want to hear it."

The fact was that Owen did think Relina was beautiful and fun, but he honestly had no interest in being anything other than her friend. But the fact was that she was female, and most of Owen's female friends didn't escape him without some cheesy, flirting one-liners. It was just how the boy rolled. However, he knew how to tone it down when he needed to. It was part of Owen's charm.

Relina openly chuckled at his suggestion of it just being his personality.. " Ohhh you don't fool me.. You are a teen age old boy, I'm a member of the opposite sex.. Naturally you want me.." She rolled her eyes showing she was indeed teasing.. " I have you know I have had that 'welcome to your body, guard it accordingly' talk with Madam' Weasley" She snorted.. " I'm kidding your smart so I don' t doubt you know that.. Owen its very amusing to hear you talk I can get lost in your little plucky accent easily.. " So do you wish to go see if we can scare us up something to snack on..

She blinked several times before looking at the state of her dress she was caked in blood of gnome it stained her white blouse.. " Though I'm certain elves would believe me if I told them it was just a prank in the owlery that had gotten the best of me.. I do think however, the professors would not believe the honest truth particularly since I threaten to skin Callista Havoc's cat earlier.. " she sighed.. " You know any decent stain removing spells one could use on fine linen?"

Owen looked at Relina with her eyebrows raised when she spoke of how he wanted her and all that, and then revealed she was just messing with him.

"Hey, what can I say?" he said. "I know pretty when I see it, and you, Ms. Relina, are pretty. But yeah, don't worry. If I was tryin' to go out with you, I would have really put my game on." He then chuckled a little when she spoke of his accent. "Plucky? Well that's a new one."

He then shrugged about getting some food.

"Sure, food sounds good," he said. "I think I go some chips stashed somewhere. Oh right, you folks here call'em crisps and you call French Fries chips. Y'all get confusin' for folks who also speak English."

He then listened when Relina spoke of skinning a cat.

"Dang, girl, you better stay away from my cat then!" he said. Owen drove Smack crazy, but he was quite fond of his cat. "And if I knew any good stain removing smells, I wouldn't still have that big mustard stain on my best jeans."

Mustard.. On your pants? She winced.. as she shuffled from foot to foot. Pondering if there was anything to do with Owen, as he was amusing. Not as in like a belly full of laughs fool, but he was different the way he walked the way he moved the way he carried himself it was well what she considered down to earth. His nature seemed naturally suited to put people at ease.

They both seemed so similar their qualities that made them unique among those of their house. With the girls of Slytherin Relina found the most seemed to think that to exist in the house meant you must regard yourself as something not less than god.. She didn't found it annoying with some of the more arrogant housemates that they seemed to confuse arrogance with confidence as the two couldn't be more different. Or worse yet that some of her house sisters thought that confidence in one's self came at at the expense of those weaker then themselves, as if they simply didn't seem content unless bring someone else down.

"Well food is needed that is obvious I say we after that we look for something to get into.. We can go looking for where Basilisk died.. In all my years here I've never been to down to the chamber. Have you? "

Owen nodded about the mustard.

"Yeeep, had those jeans for a few years and one day I was eatin' a sandwich in'em and boom... attack of the Mustard from Hell!" said Owen. "Well, more like a shop in Godric's Hellhole, but same difference." Owen shrugged, wondering what was indeed worse- the fiery netherworld or Godric's Hollow.

Owen then listened as Relina suggested they go down to the mysterious and legendary chamber that the great Harry Potter saved his wife-to-be in.

"Wait, you mean where that giant snake that was bossed around by he who we ain't supposed to name lived?" he said. "Let's give it a look, lady friend!"

Owen was quite excited to go check it out, so once he hit the Common Room, he quickly grabbed some chips... er crisps and some canned sodas and made his way back to Relina, handing her a bag of crisps and a soda.

"We can munch while we walk," he said. "You know where this Chamber is?"

Relina was surprised that she found him so eager to join her on her little expectition considering where they were going.. Granted it wasn't as if they were going to find the beast.. But Relina had high hopes that she could find some relics in the chamber if it was not picked clean but other would be looters, after all she figured she and Owen wouldn't be the only ones with knowledge of where to find it.. Having discussed it with her father her forth year when she had broken her arms they entertained themselves with the combing over the blueprints of the castle that had existed between the years of 1348 and the first Year when the Beast had claimed the first victim.. She had checked various places till she stumbled on Moaning Myrtle who had supplied her with details that proved very helpful after that it wasn't difficult to find the small snake symbol on the ornate sink.

"Well I've been keeping something for this night it might prove difficult to get in, but it is worth a shot isn't it."

She looked at Owen, and smiled a glimmer of mischief in her eye. She added softly. " not to mention if we do get down in the chamber we might be able to find a some real Basilisk scales and if we are really lucky some fangs which will fetch a pretty profit in a few places in the Knockturn.. You swear one me if we get caught you won't rat me out.. We go by the sheer fact we were lucky to just find it.. RIGHT.. "

Owen listened to the plan. Owen was a guy who liked trying new things and getting into risky business even if it could get him in trouble. He had no issue with going to the Chamber.

"Cool, let's do it," he said about Relina keeping something for the particular night and giving it a shot. "I mean, you only get to do stuff like this once."

The part about the fangs interested him. Making some quick galleons. He could finally buy a really good guitar. He had his eye on one of two he had wanted for a while now. When Relina asked him to promise not to rat her out, he smirked and shook his head.

"The OH doesn't rat on his buddies, Peach Pie," he said. "I got into this with ya, and I plan to go down with ya if the Profs find us. That's what buddies do, am I right?"

Relina had to stifle a chuckle at Owen calling himself the "Oh" it wasn't that she thought bad or was poking fun at him.. It simply caught her off guard after all she had never heard someone who wanted to refer to themselves as simply a letter. Her friend Brunhilda Eugina Whitecoff whom in her opinion had a horrid name simply attempted to hide it by insisting you call her Hilda or you didn't call her, but for the life of Relina she couldn't picture herself calling Hilda 'H" though she might attempt it now because she heard Owen do it..

Chuckling and shaking her head at being called Peach pie she couldn't resist the urge to bow low dramatically and offer her hand.. "Very well Johnny O.. Lets go there some trouble, mischief, and Mayham that awaits the other side of that door.. "

Owen watched as Relina laughed, bowed, and offered her hand. He raised an eyebrow and smirked.

"You are a strange one there, Honeysuckle," he said. He then took her hand. "What the heck do you want me to do with this? Hold it? Kiss it? I mean, if you want me to be smooth, I'm all about the smooth, but I need a word up on what's going on here, Angel Cake." He was of course messing with her, trying to get her to laugh more. People wondered why Owen was friends with so many ladies, yet didn't have a girlfriend. He wasn't really ready for a steady relationship, but damn could the boy flirt when he wanted to.

As they neared the Chamber, Owen got a crazy feeling in his stomach. Was it fear, excitement, curiosity? Whatever it was, he HAD to see what was on the other side.

"Let's do this thing," he said.
