STAND BY YOU
it's like a storm, that cuts a path. it breaks your will. it feels like that. you think you're lost, but you're not lost on your own. you're not alone. i will stand by you. i will help you through when you've done all you can do. if you can't cope, i will dry your eyes, i will fight your fight, i will hold you tight and i won't let go. it hurts my heart, to see you cry. i know it's dark, this part of life. oh, it finds us all and we're too small to stop the rain, but when it rains i'll stand by you.-------------
What the hell was she thinking? What in Merlin's name made Aisling betray the Black Army? Was she really that stupid? Ever since the three of them were kids; her, Drew, and Aisling, it was easy to tell Aisling was the weaker of them three. She always knew it. She always said it too. Dahlia never cared if she hurt the raven haired girls feelings. She could suck it up and move on. If she couldn't take the heat, she shouldn't play with the fire. That's how Dahlia saw it. In her mind she always saw Aisling as a problem. Always. Maybe it was because she allowed so much emotion to control her actions, or maybe it was because she was jealous. It was something she wouldn't admit to, but she had always been jealous of the girl. Not only was she beautiful, but Drew fancied her; she could see that and feel it. He was her best friend. She would have had to been oblivious not to notice. But there was something else she would never admit to.
Dahlia loved Aisling as a sister; as a best friend as well. You couldn't grow up with someone, even if you're apart for a few years, and not care for them. They had been stuck together since the childhood days. They had been trained together and taught together. They had played together and even shared petty little childhood secrets. Dahlia only showed affection for the boy in their group; for Drew. Never for Aisling and she really didn't have any plans to start. Especially not now. Not after what she did.
Dahlia had been avoiding the girl. It had been hard seeing as they were both in the same year and house, but that didn't mean she didn't try. They practically had all their classes together. In fact, it was kind of annoying having to see her face every single day. But she had her reason, and to her it was good. Aisling had betrayed the Black Army and she knew that. If anyone knew she had an idea and was keeping it from them, she'd be in trouble as well. Any association with her, could make it worse.
It was late. The sun had gone down and curfew had passed. Most of the other students were in their beds, which was where Dahlia was until she realized she couldn't sleep. She wasn't sure if it was because she had a lot on her mind, or if she just wasn't that tired. Either way, it led her to the decision to go to the common room. Not that she really knew what she would do, but it was better than lying in bed, staring at the ceiling. When she had arrived at the bottom of the stairs, her eyes caught sight of a familiar shade of black hair and a face that would be hard for her not to recognize. Of course it had to be Aisling.
Standing there for a moment, unsure of what to do, Dahlia turned fully ready to leave. But something stopped her and made her turn back. With a sigh, she made her way across the floor to where the girl she had known for so long was seated. At first, all she could do was stare at the poor girl, not knowing what she should say. Of course, a simple hello might have sufficed, but that just wasn't her. "Why'd you do it Ais?" That was the first thing that slipped from her lips and it wasn't necessarily what she wanted to come out, but deep down she wanted to know. She had to know.
