Valentyna sat behind the counter, her expensive boots propped up on it as she munched some grapes and listened to Thorn go on about his new girlfriend, and how he felt Val would be a great "mentor" for her as a potential new member of the Black Army. She laughed at some of the revelations about her.
"Thaddeus Thorn dating a Ravenclaw... and a Half-Blood?" she asked. "Well she's Quarter-Veela, so I certainly can't fault her for that being one myself. But still..." Val then shrugged. "Guess she must be pretty special for you of all people to fancy her so much. Alright, send her in... but it's her and I... girl stuff. You can come back when I'm done with her."
As Thorn walked out to retrieve Nienna, Val looked at her weasel Snitch.
"Hope she's not one of those Claws who thinks she's smarter than everyone else," she said. "Ugh... hated those back in school."
The hour was a late one, which had allowed the two students to apparate to Diagon without being caught, and it was the perfect time for Val to hang out with Nienna for a few hours.

The midnight wind blew furiously as Anna stood by the curb, head still spinning on from her first Apparition. It was as exhilarating as it was illegal, and tonight held much great anticipations for her long-awaited wicked encounters. She had to stop herself from peeping into the exotic galore through the misted windows. That's childish, she told herself off, regardless of how mad you are.
"Your first night," she heard herself saying, thrilled yet anxious.
As Thad came out of the Devil's Flair, she could feel her heart almost running out of her chest. Anna was about to meet Val; a Dark Witch in the ranks, one she has never heard of before. Not that she knew more than one Dark Witch. She stepped inside, into the room where the contours of red and black were blurred by an enshrouding dimness, and she noticed the bells began chiming eerily. She felt unfamiliar. Anna focused her sight at the counter, where she first saw Val, her "mentor" meant to help her seek true darkness... Slowly, she walked up towards the counter as Thad stood behind, looking as if he was ready to leave.
Val was wickedly charming, with a look that could attract the hearts of men as easily as she could smash them, yet get away with it. Anna was thrilled to meet someone so powerful, someone whom Thad trusted enough to "look after" her. Hiding her anxiousness, she spoke, air hissing through her lips, "Your humble subject, Anna, is here to learn. How would you like me to address you?"
Anna gazed at the beautiful presence, eyes twinkling playfully in the dimness, revealing her devilish nature... Thad. She shook him off her consciousness, ignoring the butterflies in her gut, as she obediently waited for instructions from her new mentor.
The night was about to begin.

Val looked over the girl as she walked in. The girl did seem humble, so at least Val wouldn't have to worry about the "I'm smarter than you" part. That was good. Still, she didn't want the girl too humble.
"How would I like you to address me?" she chuckled. "That's cute. I'm not the Dark Lady, and I'm not an uptight stick in the mud like Dathan Burke. So call me Val, most others do. I'll call you Anna, and we'll go with that." She placed her feet down and walked over to Anna. "Look, I'm not a teacher, mentor, whatever the hell you want to call me. I'll show you the ropes, but I'm more like the corrupting big sister type, you know? You cool with that?"
She then looked her over.
"You're a little knockout," she said. "I can definitely see the Quarter Veela there," she said. "I'm Half myself." She then motioned to her weasel. "That's Snitch. He usually keeps to himself, but if he likes you enough he might get chummy."

Before meeting Val, Anna was unsure of what the night would bring. Granted that she had wished to unite with the darker ally of humanity, yet essentially she was a greenhorn; and by training, Anna was a certain walking magnet for fearful imaginations. Perhaps she was finally coming face-to-face with a skilled Legilimens, or perhaps she was going to witness one of the Unforgivable Curses. Perhaps she would get herself injured... Or play a wicked trick or two on some unworthy wretch. A sweet smile elusively formed on her lips. Before hearing Val spoke, all of these thoughts flew through her mind as rapidly as a loose gravel would down a cliff. But she kept these things, and listened closely to Val.
Her eyes widened at the sound of the light chuckle; it was one rather high-pitched, but it sounded like music to her ears. "Dathan Burke– yes, the owner of Borgin and Burkes down Knockturn Alley." Anna noted her lighthearted derision against the older wizard, and noted alongside that Val was anything but dull, or morose. Her heart let out an enormous sigh of relief as Val asserted their relationship, even as the subtle tinge of perversity in her question crept into Anna's mind. "I will try to keep up with you, even though it might take awhile." Anna smiled, this time bright and wide. "Val, show me already!" She nearly squealed at the excitement, the anticipation in her heart blowing larger with every word Val spoke.
Anna was beginning to enjoy this strange encounter.
"Thanks," Anna said, feeling a devilish glint sweeping its course over her being. She suddenly recalled how people thought that the eyes were windows to your soul, and presently Anna believed it true; she was gazing at the lustrous eyes of the Temptress, full of amazement. "She ought have gloried herself by capturing attentions everywhere," Anna inevitably thought to herself. When Val finished speaking, a gentle itch formed behind her neck, as Snitch had climbed nimbly up her shoulders, the bristles in his furry coat brushing against the nape of her neck. Turning her head left to look at Snitch, Anna smiled as she raised her right hand to fetch him down, carefully. "I like you, Snitch," Anna said sweetly.
"And you are the most beautiful witch I have ever met, Val." Anna winked innocently, smiling.

Val smiled widely as Nienna said she would try to keep up with her.
"Honey, don't stress it," she said. "Thorn didn't bring you to me to make you feel like you were still in school. You're here to have fun, sweetie." Val bent closer and whispered, "I'm going to show you the perks of being a dark witch... what you can get away with because those idiot Aurors are too damn focused on the big game right now. They don't come after lil ole us." Val made a mock pout before laughing.
Val raised an eyebrow as Snitch befriended Nienna and quickly.
"Well look at that," she said. "Must be the Veela in you."
Val smirked a bit when Nienna said she was the most beautiful witch she had ever seen.
"Yeah, I'm a looker," she said arrogantly. "But nice of you to say so. I think you and I are going to get along fabulously. Come on over behind the counter and sit down. You like lemonade?"

Stress? Perhaps she was expecting too much of herself. Perhaps it was the Ravenclaw in her, a part of her that thrived under the enthusiasm of learning, triumphing over her impish playfulness. After all, between her imaginations; Anna had pictured Val being a somber and droning witch. She was glad to be mistaken. The thrill she felt upon hearing the words 'fun' and 'perks' taunted her curiosity undeniably, compelling her to enjoy this experience as the night insisted on unraveling.
Val was speaking of something illegal, all right. Yet Anna, having had her fair share of being a good girl, finally refused to knuckle under the barbed limits of law. Against the karmic principle, sowing good had not earned her much good; instead she had reaped untreated hurt and unresolved fears. She had had enough of the good stuff, she wanted to break free.
Anna knew, indeed, that the Aurors stationed at Hogwarts were too tangled in their current case, too muddied to suspect anything suspicious outside the school grounds. "Which means fun," Anna added, eyes dazzling with childlike eagerness, grinning sinfully. "Show me, Val." This time she spoke the words, her voice rich with repressed anticipation and unbounded curiosity. One sip of the devil's darkness did neither hurt nor scared her. On the contrary, it made her feel endlessly alive; so surely another sip would taste even better. Besides, this was real; not her mere strings of exquisite words, but actual games of darkness, conjured forth by the Heiress of Hell.
She was far too young to glimpse the indulgences of darkness, yet as she continually fed upon the wildest allusions of sin; she was allowed to feel alive, she was allowed this bare necessity.
Anna laughed softly as Val spoke of their getting along fabulously. Trusting Val was absolutely predicated, but having this much fun was a fantastic bonus.
"Not as much as Punches, but I do like them. And thank you. I reckon you won't be needing my help, would you?" Anna smiled her gratitude as she stepped behind the counter and took her seat; and she felt different. She realised she was no longer the ignorant schoolgirl living off her grades or achievements; she was working her way towards something new, perhaps the freedom she had always dreamed of. She continued to marvel at this revelation as she watched Val move about.
"What are we going to do, then?" Anna asked gleefully.
With the same gleefulness, Anna observed as Snitch took his place beside Val, climbing to perch attentively near an Amaranthine dress... A scarcely refined number it was, much less elegant. Truthfully, the piece stood out from the rest for its bewitched appearance: vine-like crimson fabric with diamantine spines draped its bodice, both seemingly entwined in infinity. Her lips parted without her conscious volition, mortified by the fatal beauty.

Val grinned at Nienna.
"Lots of fun, babe!" she said. "And trust me, I'll show you a lot tonight, more than enough to get you started on the path to greatness... of freedom."
Val poured the lemonade and handed her a glass. Val added a little something to the lemonade. It wasn't alcohol as she needed her guest sober, but it added some zing to the drink.
"You'll like this," she said. "Old family secret, one of the few I actually give a damn about. And no help needed... at least in making the lemonade."
Val took her own glass and sat down, offering a toast.
"To friendship and fun," she said before sipping her drink. "Mmm... now then, I have a little question to start things off. You're Fourteen, so I assume old Grimp has taught you about the Three Unforgivable Curses in your Defense Against The Dark Arts Class? Tell me, have you ever wanted to try one out on someone... and what if I told you that you could tonight? Would you do it?"

The charm had been inscribed. At the taste of freedom, an incomparable sweetness resonated within the depths of her emotions, entrapping her in those endless dreams. What was it about darkness which lured her so? This surpassed the quenchable nature of curiosity, it had become her quenchless passion.
Anna accepted the glass of lemonade from Val and returned the toast, "To friendship and fun," Anna agreed. A genuine smile was etched on her face as she took a swig of the sweet-smelling liquid.
She listened as Val spoke casually about the Unforgivable Curses, being uncomfortably comfortable mentioning these fatal spells. Was this what she wished for? To assert her greatness over others through the psychotic methods of a Dark Witch she had just met? Perhaps yes, perhaps not.
She was looking down at the seemingly harmless fizz when a pleasant tingle, fleeting yet undeniable, ran up her body, up her spine, up her brain. Eyes widening, she looked at Val curiously, her expression half-expecting a further explanation for the sugary lemonade. Anna could feel her nerves firing up, breaths unsteady as her limbs began to emanate its own heat source, her insides gradually tightening and loosening, tightening and loosening again. Old family secret? An admonition suddenly rang through her mind, anything but in time. Out of the few things Anna knew, she was nearly sure that the average lemonades did not require degrees of tight-lipped expertise to taste this amazing. Her eyes could see clearer things. Her ears could hear the faintest clink in the distance. To a desperate bookworm, the elating experience translated to more than amazing.
Grinning now, she bit her lower lip wickedly, craving for more of this dark angel.
"If I could, a million times over," she breathed eagerly, she was descending the greasy slope of evil wearing glass heels. "Some unworthy wretch of a human being, a trillion times over." Her hunter-green irises danced with a mad glee, flooded with a profusion of evil ambitions, an insatiable bloodlust. The unknown stuff in her veins had compelled her to run, to move, to dance. Anna was aware of her circumstance, although presently she could not ignore her violent thirst.
How far along had she trodden?
Not far enough. She had just begun.
Smiling, Anna asked Val carefully, gesturing at her emptied glass, "But a little more lemonade wouldn't hurt, would it?"

Val loved this girl. No wonder Thorn feel for her. She was a little devil and reminded Val of herself at that age.
"Well good," she said when Nienna agreed to try out one... or more of the forbidden trio of curses. "Thorn told me you enjoy reading about various dark spells, and I admire that I truly do. However, reading about them and doing them are too different things. There's no greater thrill than actually saying those words... Imperio... Crucio... and Avada Kedavra." Val didn't have her wand on her at the moment, so naturally uttering the words posed no danger for Nienna. "Repeat them... see how sweet it is to say them, how they tickle your tongue."
Val smiled as she poured more lemonade in Nienna's glass.
"You like the added touch, don't you?" she said. "I have plenty of the special ingredient in stock. I'll let you take some with you, but don't spread the secret too thin. I reserve the savoring of this lemonade to my friends." She winked at Nienna at that. "So... when you're ready, we'll go play outdoors."

People would make their mistakes of assuming Anna being a proper, prim, harmless little girl; that she would require some degree of assistance to take care of herself. These thoughts annoyed her a little, but they also thrilled her to no end, knowing that nobody would hold her in suspicion should she decide to play around. Her own spoken words lingered in her mind, twirling madly in the red circle of evilness.
There was no turning back now.
It was too late. She would die trying.
Besides, she would rather hurt herself than to revert to her old, pathetic self.
"I do, and Thad showed me the darkest, loveliest things," she agreed, eyes twinkling with joy, "Imperio... The controlling curse. I would like to try it first, see what I can make those retards do." Anna chuckled lightly, her tone becoming more confident now. She was beginning to feel dangerous, lethal as an Acromantula. The animal lain hidden within her soul stirred to awaken, breathing, hissing spirited sparks of venom through the core of her being. "Crucio... The sweet screams, the terrors and pain, they would make us feel alive, wouldn't they? Knowing that those fears are fuels for our power. Knowing that power is in our blood-covered hands, and we chose to flaunt it proudly." She mused aloud. "Shame to those wretches who try to hide darkness."
" And Avada Kedavra. But it ends the fun." Anna pouted slightly, almost girlish even. She gazed endearingly at Val as she poured into her glass. When Val winked at her, she grinned so widely she could feel her cheeks getting hurt. "I have never tasted something so amazing. I love it, Val." Then Anna softly whispered, smiling as she held her hand, "And thank you. You are the best big sister ever." Was she ready to go out and play outdoors? In a bit, perhaps. Squinting at the ticking clock on the far side of the wall, she confessed, " But I suppose that you know, I have not practiced any of them before. What did you feel, Val, the first time? Was it as exhilarating as I imagine it to be?" Hesitantly, she added, each word seemed to pin her mad fearlessness down, " What if mine do not work?" Anna entered a moment of contemplative silence. It is going to, use your fears. Just have fun, Anna. She could nearly hear Val and Thad coaxing her, their voices soothing her into a state of bliss as she drank the lemonade, its sparkles sending bursts of happiness down her throat.

Val grinned when Anna said she wanted to try the Imperius Curse first.
"Oh that's always a good one to start with," she said. "Playing the Puppeteer and putting on a show for your own entertainment. Yes, we'll find some poor fool and do that one first."
She then nodded about the Killing Curse.
"Yes, it does end the fun," she said. "I never was a big fan of that one. It's more of a necessity than anything, a way to keep someone's mouth shut. We might wait for the proper time for that one. I want you to have fun for as long as possible before you have to return to that horrid school." She stroked Anna's hair as a loving mother or older sister would. "Damn, I wish I could keep you."
Val smiled about the lemonade and being called the best big sister ever.
"Why thank you, darling," she said. "You quite amazing yourself."
Val then leaned back in her chair and thought as Anna asked how it was to use the Curses for the first time.
"The first time I used the Killing Curse was cheapened because it was done without really thinking," she said. "A man saw too much in the back of my shop and threatened to go to the Aurors. I was young and scared and could think of no other option to shut him up. The Cruciatus Curse was a bit sweeter. I was tested with that one by Dathan Burke on one of his business associates who didn't pay up. One of my few good memories of working with that man. Then there's the Imperius Curse. That was the most fun. I became owner of this shop with that one. Before that I worked here for the miserable witch who originally owned the place. When I found she would never give the shop over to me willingly despite all I had done for her, I used the curse to get it anyway, and once she signed the papers over, I had her throw herself in the river. The Aurors were suspicious of course, but in the end they couldn't prove a damn thing. So, I would certainly say my first use of that curse was certainly the most rewarding."

"I would love to start with that." Sweet as a changeling, Anna purred. In her current frame of mind, being in a nightmare could actually be likened to playing in a funhouse. Her slender fingers trailed a slithering motion on the smooth black of the counter, teeth clenched in sheer anticipation of the arriving pleasure. The night was growing older with each tick on the clock, and she could not wait to go out, to raise a little hell. Death would come before dawn.
Sweet, little drop of venom licking on her soft lips. All hell broke loose when Val stroked her head, gently, lovingly; the overture of the apocalypse ringing its golden bells in her ears. Let the air thicken with devastation, the ground reek of death pits, the oceans seethe with waves of hellfire. Her pact with the Devil, soon to unveil in full throttle. They could paint a circus with blood, they could do away with countless forbidden things, as long as filthy mouths were kept shut. "You really do?" Anna smiled dearly at Val, inching eagerly towards her, and added, "I could ask Thad to bring me out here more often, before I learn to Apparate myself. Soon, I hope." Sighing affectionately, she carried on, biting her lower lip lightly, "He must have a few matters of his own to attend to." Although I miss him, sorely. She stopped flicking the switch in her mind. She stopped thinking about what could and what could not be. What mattered most, was that she chose to. That was good enough. She had stopped and smelled enough roses along the brick path. It was time to pluck a few lives, shred some petals, trample some souls. Thad was right. Once she had learned to use her fears, seven vicious doors began to rotate, overwhelming desires electrified from their long, deep slumber. Nothing else could have made her felt more enlivened. After listening to her recount her firsts, Anna said, "You are so impressive, Val. Had I not known better, I would say that violent was your middle name. And I could envy you for that." A tinge of playfulness needled the chill around her. "I wish to make my firsts memorable, like you remember yours. Think I am game yet?" "Tiger-time," Anna smirked wickedly, her hunter-green eyes almost darkening into the midnight sky outdoors. It felt good, like freedom. "For tasty things." Fun.

Val smiled at Nienna when she seemed to wish the same about Val "keeping her". Val kissed her on the forehead to confirm it.
"We'll play as often as we can," she said. "And once the Dark Lady has taken over, you'll never have to worry about going to that school again... well unless you want to torture the poor saps who are still there. And yes, I'm sure your Thaddeus has things to take care of. He's been quite beneficial to all of us, especially with his money and that little family library of his."
Val laughed about violent being her middle name.
"Well actually Marciella's my middle name, but hell we'll go with violent," she said. "And we're not here to see how much I impress. It's all about you tonight."
"Not tiger-time," she said as they exited. "I have another jungle cat in mind." Her eyes then flashed to reveal those of her animagus form- the panther. "But we'll save that for later."
Once outside, Val placed her arm around Nienna, again playing the big sister role. She wasn't just BSing Nienna. She had grown quite fond of the girl in a short time.
"There's a small pub in this area, not like the Leaky Cauldron, but with its share of low lives right now," she said. "One or two will be exiting soon. Let's hide and you can pick one out to play with. Sort of like being in a toy shop, isn't it?"

A subtle, belligerent, unfamiliar flutter rose from her middle as Val kissed her forehead. At the instant, Anna dreamed of them becoming sisters for ever, just as she had dreamed of Thad becoming her immortal soulmate.
"I'm flattered," she spoke softly, breaths away from the deep brown of her sister's eyes, "That you care about me, so deeply." Between the words she slowly whispered, hid her sweet-smelling intention, "I love you, too, Val." To people who did not know Anna, her words could halt them to silence, either from a pensive mood, or confusion. Yet truthfully, they resonated from the depths of her heart and mind, and she hoped that Val would know them by heart. Anna may very well be ruthlessly evil, but she would rather latch herself onto a bed of nails, if it meant her loved ones could remain far from harm.
"He does," Anna smiled, "Possess the best of things." She leaned towards Val, her voice lowering, but intense: "Including me." Anna smiled again, feigning innocence through her unblinking, twinkling eyes. Anna frowned at Val when she spoke of jungle cats, head tilted a little sideways, looking slightly silly. Upon seeing her irises blazed a prolific golden hue, Anna shrilled from abounding amazement, then wrapped her arms tight around Val in a loving hug.
"There are so many things I like about you, Val, I could play with you forever." Anna said sweetly as she rested her head on the svelte shoulder. "And still more that you have not shown me, yet, Val. Let us play. I can wait no longer." When Anna pulled away, she felt the uncertainties of the frigid night being swept clean, replaced by the newfound fearlessness which Val had inspired within her. Anna was the little sibling, worshiping her elder sister. Through her eyes, Anna saw that nothing could be safe anymore. And nothing would stop her now.
She would make angels cry tonight.
"Promise, would you watch after me, only for tonight?" Anna whispered to Val before they stepped out of the big doors. A little precaution before playing with fragile toys. Anna trusted Val, regardless of the vices which she had committed in the past.
Enshrouded in an ornate black robe, one of her gifts from Thad, Anna strode along the stoned pavement with Val, each step resounding quicker as she gained her momentum, the ground seemed aligning with her excitement. The streets were chilling, dark and sombre, as an arsenal of cloud sent the moon hidden from view. Anna looked straight ahead, where Val was leading her; an obscure turn from the main street towards a narrow, descending slope of perdition.
"We can hide well here, Val, too dark for the drunken bastards to see even beautiful things like us," Anna said as they were drawing close. "Toy shop!" She breathed aloud, suppressing her fascination. Anna had to smile at the comparison. "Yeah, and this one is more wicked, sweet sister, because those toys are... Free," she licked her words, enjoying their taste on her maleficent tongue.
As they snaked around, blending in impeccably with the surrounding darkness, Anna was watching in silence as the entrance – a shapeless hole on the concrete stonewall – gave way to a drunk wretch, choking and struggling to stand on his two stick-like legs. Anna could smell the air, rancid with acid breaths as he began trudging up the slope. She grimaced in disgust as she imagined his weightless frame, pervading her consciousness whenever she would think of her first kill. Anna let him walk away, which took a dreadful, endless bouts of stumbles and head-butts on the blacktop. Just as he faded from sight, another soul stepped out of the entrance, seemingly in better form and fuller possession of his faculties, huddling his robe closer as he fought against the chill.
Anna gripped her wand tight, smiling smugly. Be quick, Anna.
"I want that one," she hissed, turning towards Val, eager for the thrill. "With little cherries on top."

Val felt something warm inside her around Nienna... genuine love for the girl growing. That was strange in many on the dark side, but Val accepted it.
"Thad brought you to me, and I'm glad he did," she said. "I consider you my responsibility, and I'll be damned if anything happens to you."
When Nienna said Thad possessed the best of things including her, Val grinned at her sweet ego.
"Yes he does," she said. "Especially you."
As they walked out, Val stroked her hair again.
"You have my word," she said. "I'll be by your side every minute... sister."
Yes, toys... free toys. Val liked that! She knelt in their hiding place and watched as Nienna picked one out.
"Ooooh, nice choice, my dark angel," she said. "He's heading this way. Wand at the ready now." The man drew closer, singing some horrid song in his horrid voice. Val placed her lips to Nienna's right ear and whispered, "Now."
