In England, it was rarely an odd sight to see youths playing football (or soccer to the Americans). Well, rarely an odd sight in the Muggle community. But it was an odd sight to some on the Hogwarts grounds. But having a Muggle dad, Lochlan was a big football fan and loved to play it on the grounds. He was just kicking the ball about until a curious student from his House walked over and asked how the game was played.
"Pretty simple really," he said. "I have a goal on my side, you have a goal on yours, and one of us tries to kick the ball into the other person's goal." He then chuckled. "There's usually a lot more people than two though. Would you like to give it a go?"
The student nodded and the two began playing a bit. Lochlan was no football coach by any means, but he felt he managed to help the other student get the hang of it.

Skylar had recently found himself buried in a wonderful book he picked up. He simply couldn't remove his eyes from the pages. He had roamed the halls between teaching with his eyes firmly latched to the words of each page. He held the book in his right hand and up in front of his face as he walked. His left hand was up in the air was well but nothing was in it. He was twitching and twirling his fingers randomly as he moved. Every little bit he would move his left hand to his head and brush a few strands of his hair back behind his ear but the rest of the time he was doing that strange thing with his fingers. Sometimes he would read certain lines out loud and other times he would completely ignore someone trying to talk to him as he walked. He was just always that buried in his books when he read. He was the magical literature professor for hogwarts and though what he was currently reading had nothing to do with that subject his job did require him to read a good bit. He was happy that he was so fond of it. He liked these muggle books, they were entertaining. When Skylar finally brought his eyes from the book he came to realize that he had walked much further than intended and he had to take a moment to discover where his feet had taken him. He turned around a few tmes and looked like he was lost for a moment before the expression of realization came to his face. he had walked all the way out here.
Skylar turned around a few more times to try and figure out which way he wanted to walk before he finally just stopped. He slid his tumb up one side of the book and his four fingers up the other side and pushed his book shut. He brought it close to his chest and held onto it very tight. When his mind finally came from the book completely he heard some voices. His eyes cut and he looked across from where he stood. It was a pair of students and something Skylar hadn't seen in a while, a soccer ball. The teacher looked both of the students over briefly before he began his walk over to them. He continued to hold his book tight against his chest and with his free hand he shoved a few strands of his brown hair back behind his ear.
"Interesting game, Soccer." He said as he came up to the students "Got so confused about the rules as a child. The goal keeper can touch the ball with his hands but everyone else has to use their feet. Some muggles call it soccer, others call it football and some other muggles have another game called football but its completely different."
Skylar shot his foot out and placed it ontop of the ball. He quickly rolled his foot back and knocked the ball up, he then bounced it on his knee and caught it in his free hand.

Lochlan could tell Professor Monroe was just being friendly. However, Lochlan was a highly respectful young man and was still aware of the respect that owed one who had earned the title of Professor. "Good afternoon, Professor Monroe," he said, his Irish accent showing a bit. "And that is correct, Professor." This was of course regarding the info he had just given about the game of Football. He smiled as the Professor played well with the ball. "Excellent, Professor," he said, and he wasn't kissing backside. He was sincere. If there was one thing that made Lochlan a true Gryffindor, along with his courage, was his sincerity. Lochlan knew he didn't need to kiss up to anyone to get anywhere and didn't do so. He had genuine respect for the man with himself and the student. "I didn't know you played, though I suppose you are a bit too busy to do so due to your work." With all that had been going on at Hogwarts, Lochlan was surprised to see any of the instructors engaged in casual activity. SKYLAR OLIVER MONROE

Skylar listened to the student and kept his eyes on him while playing with the ball the whole time. He bounced it around a few times and then rolled it over his shoulder and finished with a little spin of it on his middle finger. He was a professor but he had seen some muggle games before, soccer and yes, some basketball as well. It wasn't like he was born at hogwarts. A little thing that most people didnt know about this professor is that he was actually from america. Skylar looked over the student before him. he had of course seen him before but the respect was refreshing. Skylar had run across far to many slytherin in the past few days and it was quite rare for him to see someone so nice to him.
"A little secret for you. I actually bury myself in work so i dont have to think about some things. Sometimes life can weigh a little too much and you have to get away from it. Every has their own ways of doing it." He said with a smile before dropping the ball to the ground and putting his foot ontop of it.
Skylar took his book and he put it in one of his inner jacket pockets. It wasn't often that he would take the time to hang out with the students but he wanted to today. He wanted to spend a little time away from studying things for his class and reading books. Of course, that thought was something he would never put into voice. He loved his books way too much to actually say that. "So, Lochlan, My curiousity has been struck quite hard. Of all the things ive seen in this school i cant remember the last time i saw a soccer ball, Why did you bring one all the way to hogwarts? He spoke with a smile again and when he finished he rolled his foot back across the ball and brought it up. He sntached it with one hand and held it out to the student in front of him.

Lochlan more than understood what the Professor meant by finding activities to keep your mind off of things. He constantly tried to find things to keep hi mind off his late father... the uncle who murdered the man. " Of course, sir," he said. "Forgive me if I came off as offensive." He certainly didn't want to anger the Professors so close to the end of the year. Lochlan hoped he had broken no rule by bringing the soccer ball on the grounds. Last he checked, there was no rule against introducing Muggle things to a school that taught magic. But Lochlan was cool and calm in answering. "I've had this ball here with me for quite some time, sir," he said. "My father and I used to play football a great deal, in the park when we lived in London and in the back yard when we moved to the country. My father... passed on some time ago, and having it here is something of sentimental value for me."SKYLAR OLIVER MONROE

"You certainly didn't break any rules." He said with laughter in his voice. "And i am very sorry to hear about your father. Its a sad thing to lose someone you care about." He spoke from experience, though he wouldn't speak of how he knew such things for sure. Skylar sat the ball on the ground and removed his leather jacket. He made sure his book was tucked in nice and tight before taking a few steps away from lochlan. He sat the jacket on the ground and then came back to the student.
"I'm glad that you have something here to remind you of the goods things. Sadly i don't have things like that around, never thought to get them if i am going to be honest with you." The Professor cleared his throat and he looked over Lochlan a bit. He seemed like he knew a thing or two so Skylar decided to throw the question that was lurking in the back of his mind out there.
"If my asking is all right, Lochlan, Where do you see yourself in five years considering your time as a student is slowly shrinking?" He asked his question and then adjusted his necklace. Skylar then lowered his hand to his side and his fingers began tapping against his leg.

Lochlan was a bit relieved to know he didn't break a rule he didn't know about. It would have been a bit scary to know that McGonagall suddenly didn't approve of having Muggle items on the grounds. "Thank you, sir," he said when Monroe gave his sympathies. But said nothing more. Talking about his father would get Lochlan's motions out of whack again, and he didn't want to do that in front of a teacher. Lochlan couldn't say much to Monroe not having reminders of good things around. He supposed not everyone was as sentimental. He simply nodded at that and nothing more. When the man asked what Lochlan planned to do after he graduated, the Gryffindor had no trouble with answering that. "I plan to become an Auror, sir," he said. "I've seen great wrong done in my life, and I want to be in a position to help right such wrongs."SKYLAR OLIVER MONROE

Skylar nodded his head when he heard what Lochlan wanted to do. It was a good idea and was something that many people would surely be proud of but, Skylar, being who he was, thinking like he did and having the plans he did, thought of something else. He shook his hand that had those tapping fingers on it and then crossed his arms over his chest.
"Is there no other way to right wrongs and help others? Not that i do not respect a choice to become an Auror. I myself might have turned out to be one if i had taken the time to climb from my books." He laughed as he finished. He knew he had spent far too much time with his face buried in books but it had given him a good job and a large amount of knowledge so he couldnt complain.
" its just that.. well let's speak hypothetically, shall we? What if you could do everything that an auror did and more, would you still have the need to be an aruor?" He uncrossed his arms and looked at the student. Skylar had his plans and he needed people for them. you couldn't very well have a group if you was the only person in it and it was about time he tried to involve a student. He had tried his hand at picking up a few adults. He thought maybe some of the younger people would be interested, Lochlan was his first attempt.

Lochlan understood what the Professor was getting at, but he was set on his path. "I'm sure there are other ways, sir, but nevertheless that is my plan," he said. "You see, Harry Potter is something of a role model for me. Though he doesn't know it, he played a significant role in the lives of my family and I. I strive to live by his example and therefore wish to become an Auror like him."
Lochlan was confused by what Monroe meant next. To be like an Auror and more? "I'm afraid I don't understand, sir," he said. "I am not trying to be anyone special. As I said, I only wish to be in a position where I can be of service to those in need, those who can't defend themselves against dark magic."Was that entirely true? Lochlan knew to be an Auror would make him a strong force to kill his uncle and avenge his father should the former ever escape from Azkaban. SKYLAR OLIVER MONROE

"What i meant was that perhaps you could be like an auror but in a select group of people that do more. Now before i let you think i'm saying something awful again, i only mean that it seems that aurors no longer have the fire they once did. Auror's are incredible people and many should look up to them but i feel as though many just want to be one so they can say they are. I would hate to see your talent and intelligence wasted in an environment that would only keep you from being as great as you could be." He paused briefly and turned a bit to his left. He walked a few steps and then continued.
"I've been around the school for quite some time, i've taught for quite some time as well, Lochlan, and i've seen talented wizards and witches all around but what i rarely see is a great wizard. A wizard compatiable of things far beyond what they can imagine. I know you look up to harry potter, as many do. He is an incredible wizard and i also know, as you said, you dont want to be anyone special, but, lochlan.. we do not get to choose if we are special, fate chooses for us. I believe it has chosen for you. You are special, Lochlan. You are meant to be great." The professor paused again. His eyes weren't on lochlan. He was looking ahead as he stood a few feet from the student.
"You belong on the next level. Above an auror. Not meaing that you're their better but simply meaning you're among the most elite. You may not see it but others will and already have. Your name is meant to be known for the great things you will accomplish."

Lochlan listened closely to the Professor, but felt he was not one the man was looking for in regards to whatever this elite group was. This offer seemed odd to him, especially given he was such a humble wizard. His goals were simple and he planned for them to remain that way.
"Professor, what ever you are offering, I appreciate that you have thought of me, I truly do," he said. "However, with all due respect to you, I feel I am satisfied with my plans. I don't have any special abilities and as far as my classes go, I do well but I am no over-achiever. I don't believe I am the person you are looking for."
Lochlan then watched as the students began to head in for dinner.
"Thank you for the talk, Professor," he said. "I hope you find who you are looking for. Have a good evening." Lochlan grabbed his soccer ball and nodded a good-bye to Monroe before heading inside.
(No offense. I have set plans for Lochlan at the moment plot-wise.)
