Xirena stepped out of the woods near Hogsmeade that Saturday morning, knocking the leaves she had slept on off her dirty clothes. The night before featured a full moon, and therefore Xirena had turned. As a wolf, she tried to limit her hunting to the animals in the woods, but she was spotted by those that feared and misunderstood her kind. From there, there was chase. Torches were lit, wands were fired. Xirena was fortunate enough to evade them and find a hiding place. She slept there and awoke human again. The hunters had gone, but she knew they'd be back. She could no longer hunt in those woods.
She watched as others stared at her as she walked about. She was barefoot and in her bed clothes- a black tank top and matching pajama pants. She just stared back, the dead serious look on her face, as she held herself and rubbed her own arms. Despite the coming of spring, it was still chilly out. It would be a long walk back to Hogwarts.

Cain didn't have to tell Xirena he was a half vampire. She could smell it. She had met full vampires overtime and their scent was overwhelming enough for her to know what a half-breed smelled like. The scent was just a bit more subtle. He looked at the jacket, but brushed it off before going back to holding her arms.
"I don't see why that's any of your business," she said when he inquired about her walking as she was. "And I don't need your charity."
She stopped when he said Hit Wizard though. Was he one of those who was hunting her last night? She had never been hunted by a Hit Wizard before. An Auror once or twice though. She looked at him and her teeth chattered a bit when a frosty morning breeze blew by. Reluctantly, she took the jacket and put it on.
"Xirena," she said, answering his question though ignoring his hand. She wasn't crazy about touching others. "What do you want with me?"

He knew. The man knew that she was a werewolf. Not only that, he knew she was the werewolf out hunting the night before. She gave him sharp, annoyed eyes.
"I wasn't posing a threat to any human here," she said. "I don't hunt people when I turn. I hunt animals, and there's plenty in that damn forest to spare." She shook her head at his offer to find her a new place. "Why should I hunt elsewhere because the people in this village are paranoid? And why is a halfbreed bloodsucker like you really interested in helping me? Maybe it's the chance to get a young werewolf off alone for your vampire friends." Xirena missed the irony in calling others paranoid just then, but she distrusted vampires, always had. She had never met one that didn't want to start trouble with her because of what she was.
She smirked a bit when he said she was too young to be so talented as a wolf.
"Fifth year, and I was taught how to hunt and avoid other predators from a VERY young age," she said. "Both my parents were werewolves. And yes, I was sorted into Gryffindor, though I barely avoided Slytherin." Why was she telling this guy all this? Didn't she want him to get the hell away from her? Or did part of her please this halfbreed was... sincere?

Xirena had to admit... the guy had a point. Damn angry mobs.
"I'll check it out... on my own time," she said. She still didn't want to go following an adult stranger into a strange forest.
Wait... was he trying to relate to her. Xirena was not a fan of those in the Ministry who feared werewolves and understandably so. But did she really care that this guy had his issues with the courts? She could easily say no, but... she was still standing there and listening to him as opposed to flipping him off and leaving.
"S*** happens... I guess," she said. "But you became one of them, didn't you? A Hit Wizard. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me."
Cain sounded sincere about not sucking blood or having anything to do with other vampires. She couldn't judge him for that. She was an outcast to the werewolves her parents grew up with. Not only an outcast, but an enemy.
"Okay, so you're a... friendly vampire," she said. "Well, I'm not a friendly werewolf. Just because I don't hunt humans doesn't mean I sit and sing folk songs with them. So if you're looking for a hang out buddy, look somewhere else. Besides, you're what... fifty?" This was a joke of course. She knew he wasn't that old.
Xirena listened to his story. She was impressed... and from his scent she could tell he was seemingly telling the truth. She smirked when he was done.
"A troll huh?" she asked. The cold was getting to her now and she found she was clutching his jacket tighter... and she recalled that he had offered it to her.
"I'll make you a deal," she said. "Buy me a bowl of soup and we'll talk more... at least until I finish the soup."
But maybe longer. The guy seemed interesting.

Xirena listened to Cain's reasoning for being a Hit Wizard. She smirked and shook her head amused.
"So you took on the job because you're get off on fighting the bad guys?" she said. "Okay, that kind of makes sense." Actually, she almost wondered if becoming a Hit Witch instead of an Auror could serve as a greater means to face the monsters who killed her parents. She also wondered if she should tell the guy at this point that her secret ambition was to be an Auror some day after calling him out on being a Hit Wizard.
Xirena didn't feel any more cozy that Cain was twenty-nine, or that this guy wanted her to succeed at life or something like that.
"You sound like one of those self-help wizards that write those cheesy articles in the back of the Daily Prophet," she said.
Still, he agreed to buy her soup and she made a promise to hear him out.
"Let's go... Hog's Head though, not the Three Broomsticks," she said. "That place is too... upbeat."
When Cain asked where she was from, Xirena shook her head about London.
"I live in a small village not too far from here," she said. "But my family... my real parents... were from Cairo." Why was she telling him all this? Did she honestly just need someone to talk about things with and didn't realize it. Then again, maybe it was the free soup.

Xirena sighed and gave Cain an annoyed look as he asked about England and Egypt.
"Dude, I said my parents were from Cairo," she said. "I've never been there. All I know is England. I was born here and lived with my folks until their werewolf pack found and killed them for being traitors to their sick-ass cause." Xirena's voice grew from annoyed to bitter.
Xirena walked into the Hogs Head Inn as Cain asked her a bunch of random questions about herself. She answered them as if going down a checklist.
"School is fine, favorite class- Defense Against The Dark Arts, don't hate any, though I don't particularly care for some either, and yes history can be boring as Hell," she said. She sat down and anxiously awaited the waiter to order her soup. She wanted more than that, but she didn't want to push it with this guy. "Why ask me that stuff? Thought you'd want to know more about what I am... or what happened with my mum and dad. All that investigation stuff."

Xirena looked at Cain when he spoke of creativity in attacks. She had been self-training as well as DADA and had been trying to come up with new ways to use defensive and offensive spells. Could this guy help?
"Do you train others or is that against the Hit Wizard's code or something?" she asked. She then realized it sounded like she was asking him a favor. "Just... curious."
At the pub, Xirena ate the soup like it was going out of style. Her beast-like morning hunger showed through, and when she was done with the soup she was hardly satisfied. She grabbed a few nearby napkins and wiped whatever she didn't lick off her mouth. She listened as Cain went on about not asking anything personal, how he guessed she was a werewolf right away, and finally how he wanted to know about her parents.
"Alright," she sighed. She had never been to Cairo, but her father had told her all she needed to know before he was killed. "My parents were raised in a cult of Pureblood Werewolves called the Wepwawet Society, stationed in a small town that was actually just outside Cairo. At one time the society was a haven to protect werewolves from hunters and the bad apples in the magical Egyptian government. They lived in peace with those who promised to live in peace with them, hunting only animals for food. Then an intelligent, but particularly aggressive werewolf named Hamini became second in command to the Head Wepwawet. But Hamini wanted more power. He had the noble Head Wepwawet killed and made it to look like Muggles in the town were responsible. What followed was a massacre. My parents, Wepwawaet council members, found out what he had done. They knew to leave the cult would be considered a betrayal punishable by death, but they could no longer tolerate being there, especially when Hamini became Head Wepwawet himself. They managed to hide here for some time, but... well I already told you what happened from there. I know Hamini is still alive... and I'm glad. I want to be the one who kills him."
Xirena then found herself scraping the remains of the soup bowl with her right index finger and licking it.

When Cain offered to show her a few tricks that would keep people off her back, she formed a smile. It looked a tad wicked, though Xirena herself wasn't.
"Really now?" she said. "Sounds tempting."
When Cain ordered the food and it was brought to her, her eyes widened and her stomach practically roared. She looked up at Cain surprised at his generosity.
"Um... thanks," she said before she began to pig out. She practically ate like an animal and cared little for who watched her.
Xirena listened as Cain spoke of wanting revenge himself before, and then gave the advice about her having a plan once her revenge was dealt.
"Well..." she said, her mouth half full with bacon and eggs. "I wan... be... uh... Aur... Auror." Finally, she washed down her food with some juice. "So... what happened to you? Why did you want revenge... or still want it... or whatever?"

Xirena did wonder about that. Was she pushing herself like she was JUST for this showdown, a showdown that might never take place. After all, she was sure the ones responsible for her parents' murder had many enemies. For all she knew, they were dead by now and the Wepwawet were no more. She didn't want to believe this was true as she did want her revenge, but she couldn't deny that possibility.
"I mean... an Auror is a good living, and I'd be doing something worthwhile," she said. "If they even let me in because... well I am a werewolf."
Xirena listened to the story about this Jorus, one who had killed his parents. So he was an orphan due to violent means as well. Cain became more and more interesting... and Xirena found herself coming to trust him a bit. She could... just sense he could be trusted. Perhaps... he could be a friend. She didn't have a whole lot of those.
She the shook her head when he called himself a fool.
"You're not a fool," she said. "I mean, this Jorus sounds like a real arse and probably should be taken out. You're just trying to do the world a favor by wanting to get rid of him. Kind of how I feel about Hamini." She then sighed. "So... you serious about teaching me some stuff?"

Xirena nodded. This sounded promising enough. She could control herself fairly well when she changed. She had never killed anyone as a werewolf, and had only attacked when her life was threatened. She also heard there were potions that could suppress the change temporarily.
"Glad to know I have a shot," she said. "And someone who can put in a good word for me." She smiled just a tad at Cain.
A few tricks? Xirena had already learned to overcome fear to an extent, but her spell knowledge was still very academic. To be fearless and talented too- that would be something.
"Yeah, I'd like to learn a few new things," she said. "I mean, if anything just to know them if... when I become an Auror." Or when she took on a pack of evil Egyptian werewolves. Same difference.
@cainedge
Lessons and free food? Okay, this guy might have been too good to be true, but who was Xirena to turn down an opportunity.
"Okay, I'm your student then," she said, confirming her interest to him. "And... no on the Patronus. I mean I've tried, but not with any real luck."
