Philo had just spent some time in Hogsmeade with his best friend Professor Claudius Snug at the Hog's Head Inn. They had a few drinks and a lot of laughs, and while he got a bit intoxicated, Philo was quite good at keeping his wits about him even when under the influence. Once Snug had headed back to Hogwarts, Philo walked about, singing to himself. He decided to rest on a bench for a while before catching the Express back to Kings Crossing. True he could apparate, but he preferred the train. Perhaps it was the effect of his enjoyment of studying Muggles all those years. As he sat, he looked at a young boy of four or five licking a huge lollipop his mum had just purchased him at Honeydukes. Philo smiled at the boy. "Well hello there, young sir," he said. "Are you going to eat all of that?" The boy smiled and nodded. "Very well then. Enjoy your youth, my boy." He then handed the boy a galleon. "Have your next one on me."The boy then followed his mum, who had been right next to him, but tending to his infant sister. Philo sat and kept singing. THALIA EILEEN NOTT

Can we go back This is the moment | When she got off the train, she made sure that there were no remnants of Diagon Alley still on her. She had been more than a little upset at her run in with Ullum. There always seemed to go something wrong with her outfit when they met up. Usually he set something on fire, but, sometimes, there were other things. She wouldn’t have put it passed him to do something similar. It felt nice to take the train somewhere, especially when it gave her time to read her book on her own. She’d have to remember to send a thank-you note to her father for doing her the favor of pulling her out of school to get everything arranged for Rosey. He likely wouldn’t care much, but he might appreciate the thought. While she was at it, she might as well ask him how he had been and make sure that both he and her mother were doing fine. Thalia might even ask him if he had heard from Cole or something. She had felt that her brother had been avoiding her for some reason. Or, she could always ask Kat. Something had to be up if neither of them were telling her what was going on.
As she stepped off the train, she rearranged her dress and fixed her cardigan around her. Now that her seventeenth birthday had passed, she didn’t really have to worry about underage magic. That was why she didn’t mind charming her shopping bags to seem much smaller and tucking them into the pocket of her dress. She held on to a small hope that Wallace had come and picked her up. But, she didn’t see him anywhere around. Instead, she saw someone much different. Someone that led to her eyes narrowing just a fraction. Her Uncle Philo was someone she had grown up knowing. Her mother didn’t like him much, but her father had never minded him. He had been the closest thing to a grandfather she had ever had. She debated ducking her head down and making her way back up to the castle without drawing a lot of attention to herself as opposed to heading over to where he was and politely engaging in conversation until his train arrived. The politer side of her won out because she made her way over to where he was, adjusting her cardigan and making sure there wasn’t any unnecessary skin showing.
“Hello, Uncle Philotus.” She greeted calmly, trying not to raise an eyebrow at the fact that he was singing to himself. She ignored the family staring at them in favor of shifting in her heels. “What brings you out here?” Because, as far as she knew, the two of them hadn’t set a time to meet for tea or anything like that. No, it was more likely that he had been here visiting his friend and had been headed back home when she stumbled upon him. It almost made her wonder why he hadn’t just apparated back home as opposed to taking the train.

Philo was quite surprised to see Thalia at the train station of all places. He had been meaning to visit her, but it had been difficult with his work and her school work. Plus he didn't want to embarrass then dear girl by going to Hogwarts and asking someone to fetch her. But it was a pleasant surprise to see her. Philo thought highly of his grand-niece. She was a brilliant and beautiful girl... no, a young lady now, and he couldn't be prouder of all Thalia had achieved. "Thalia, hello. I should ask you what brings you here, but Merlin knows it's probably none of my concern," he said, chuckling. Despite his age, he remembered well hat it was like to be a teenager and enjoying a bit of life without everyone in one's family wondering what you were doing. "As for me, I'm just returning home from a visit with Claudius. Thought I'd take the train. Apparrating is so blasted over-rated." He then smiled at her. "I have a few moments before I board. Sit with me. Tell me, my dear Thalia, how has life treated you?" THALIA EILEEN NOTT

Can we go back This is the moment | Good. He wasn't there waiting for her. No one had told him that she had been out and about. She smiled and nodded her head a little. She honestly wouldn't have minded telling him what she had been doing. It wasn't like it was a secret or anything like that. She knew that Uncle Philo probably wouldn't care about what happened within the life of her friends. She didn't even think he really knew the Harpers or the Montagues, although it was possible that he did. He wasn't lie her parents in that regard. She didn't think that he was all about the connections and political alliances that her family liked to do and managed to establish. Still, if he had asked her, she probably would have told him what she had been up to. The only one who rarely cared to listen to what was going on around them was her father, and that was probably because he got it from her mother regardless. (She thought. She wasn't actually sure, and she and her father rarely ever spoke about matters like that.) She wasn't even sure that they knew that she was attending a wedding. It wouldn't look good for the Harpers to not invite the families.
That would have to be something that she brought up with Rosey the next time that she saw her. Which, considering everything that she had just done, wouldn't be too long from now. She would have to send her an owl or something after she was finished speaking with her uncle. She had a couple of things to do still, but it was a rare opportunity that she got to see him, so she figured that there was nothing wrong with sitting down. After all, as soon as Thalia reached the castle, she would go into study-mode once more and make sure that she was prepared for the upcoming exams. She wasn't too worried about it. She knew that she would get the great grades. She'd make her family proud. She'd find a job in whatever it was that she wanted to get a job in. And, she had to remind herself to get a hold of her Aunt Pansy and her Uncle Blaise and ask them about their different departments. She knew that she wasn't entirely required to get a job in the Ministry, but she already had an intricate understanding of how it worked. She just had to look around and find something that interested her.
“Perhaps it's because I only just started, but I'm a fan of apparrating. It hurts your stomach at first, but, in the long run, I think I like it a lot better than using the floo.” Mostly because she got sick and tired of having to dust herself off from all the soot and rearrange her hair. Besides, using the floo also gave an uncomfortable feeling in the stomach. It hurt almost just as much. “Life has been treating me well. I've been very busy, but nothing too horrible. I probably shouldn't have loaded myself up with the amount of courses that I did, but it'll pay off in the long shot. I don't mind.” She shrugged her shoulders. “The Head Boy has just as much as I do, and we're both managing just fine.” Oliver had just as many subjects as she did. He wasn't in as many clubs, she she figured that as stressed as she felt, he was probably feeling the same.

Philo nodded about Thalia's reasoning for preferring apparating. "Yes, it's quite a novelty at first, but one grows tired of it when one becomes as old as me," he said. "Besides, the train ride gets me an excuse to work on my new volume." Philo had made it his life's work to write on Muggle society. He was up to volume twelve now. He then chuckled. "I never was a fan of the Floo either."Philo was so proud of Thalia. She was so smart and dedicated to her work. In his mind, she had escaped the shadow of her parents as Cole did and became her own person. "You're a bright girl, Thalia," he said. "And I know you'll do fine for yourself. And in case I haven't told you, I'm quite proud that you made Head Girl this year." He took Thalia's hand and patted it. "I spoke with your brother just the other day, you know? Seems he's doing quite well himself, though I have never expected any less from either of you. He's dropping by for dinner with that lovely young lady of his. I believe she's a friend of yours. Anyway, you should drop by yourself after you graduate. Your Aunt Jill misses you."THALIA EILEEN NOTTPhilo's Muggle wife was as fond of Cole and Thalia as her husband was, and always hoped they could drop by. She was an excellent cook, and she loved spoiling them both.

Can we go back This is the moment | Well, if she had it her way – and it was likely that she would because she was Thalia and a Nott to boot – there would likely be a more dignified way of travelling by the time that she reached his age. She had always been about inventing new ways to make her life easier, or even small things that made it more fun. Like she was still working out some kinks on a potion she had somewhat developed the year before that rendered the drinker invisible, soundless, and unable to track for up to five minutes. She had wanted to extend that time frame, but she had been having trouble with the actual time frame of the potion. She'd lost Molly Weasley, too, so it wasn't like she had someone to bounce ideas off of anymore. “We'll see when I'm you're age if that's true or not.” And, she hadn't been aware of the fact that he had been writing a new novel. She wasn't a big fan of Muggle society. At least, she wasn't in the sense that he was, but she had never minded the lot too much. At worst, she was able to keep her head and mind her tongue when she was around those who believed differently. “What's the new volume about?”
Perhaps, if they were feeling in the mood for it, she would ask her mother or her father to pick up a copy of his last book up for her. She still hadn't had the chance to read it, and there was always one or two students a month that would ask her about them. It was a little odd, but not as much as some of the fellow students who would ask her if she could speak to either of her parents about them, possibly, getting an internship with them. Those types of people were really the ones that ticked her off. Thalia didn't think they'd earned it themselves. “It was never a question of whether or not I would get it, Uncle.” She said, smiling at him and joking a little when it came to the arrogant manner in which she accepted his compliment. “I knew a month into my First year that the position would be mine. I only ever competed with another girl to get it, and she caused too much trouble.” It would be a different story entirely if Molly kept her nose clean. It was almost a little lucky that she hadn't. She wasn't sure what she would have done if she hadn't gotten the position.
Likely, and probably purely out of spite, she would have insisted that she be transferred to any other school except Hogwarts. If the badge had gone to someone else, she would have taken it out on the teachers who's comforting words had given her the wrong expectations. “He's playing Quidditch.” She said matter-of-factly. She loved Cole to pieces, but Thalia still failed to see how practical it was to play a sport professionally. There were so many things that could go wrong, and she always felt like he never thought those sorts of things. Luckily, Katrina would be there to make sure that he didn't make too much of a fool of himself. “Katrina, Uncle. She is. We were both in Slytherin.” Thalia's mouth twitched upwards in a teasing smile. “You should have seen the look on father's face when Cole told him. He looked like someone had brought up grandfather.” Not to say that her father hadn't gotten over it eventually: he did. It had just taken him a couple of days to process all the information. “Perhaps I will, but I'm looking into going into the Ministry with Aunt Pansy. If I do that, I won't have a lot of time to stop by.”

Philo smiled when Thalia responded to his challenge. She was a spitfire, and he liked that about her. " Well Merlin willing I'll live to see if I'm proven right or wrong," he said with a chuckle. He was happy that Thalia was curious about his new volume on Muggle Society. He wasn't sure just how interested she was in the subject, but since she asked he would tell her. "Oddly enough considering the conversation we're having, it's on the history of Muggle transportation," he said. "I'm particularly anxious to write on the history of their aircrafts. I've flown in one of their planes a few times, you know? Quite an experience, and might I say one is well treated on them. Complimentary food and drink as well."
Now Thalia was showing a bit of her mother when she spoke of knowing she would get the position of Head Girl from day one, and saw her father in her when she spoke of Cole playing Quidditch. This did make Philo feel a bit uneasy. He loved Thalia a great deal, and didn't want her to grow up to be like her mother and father. " Just remember Cole is doing what makes him happy, as should you," he said. "Life without joy is life wasted. I couldn't imagine living as long as I have and not being as happy as I am. And know that money and success don't always guarantee such happiness, my dear niece."Philo could only smile a little when Thalia said her visiting was only a maybe. "Perhaps then," was all he could say. "You know I have always wished the best for you, Thalia, and that won't change."THALIA EILEEN NOTT

Can we go back This is the moment | Thalia wasn’t her Aunt Pansy, though. She wasn’t sure how good she would be with the Obliviating Charm. She really should owl her sometime and ask her to meet her at Hogsmeade, or even at the Grange, to discuss it. She also really had to bring it up with her parents. With what Cole had done, she didn’t guess that they had worried about what she would do, especially with a slight rumor she had heard around. Honestly, that someone would even remotely suspect that she would do something as idiotic as spend the rest of her life singing. She had a nice voice, and she was sure that if she put enough time and effort into it, she might actually get out there and be able to sing for a living. “I wouldn’t count you out yet, Uncle. We tend to have long lives.” The problem was that that was precisely what she did not want to do. She hadn’t missed the slight look of pity that had flashed in her Uncle’s eyes. It might not have even been pity, but she recognized the look. Mostly because it was one that she tended to dish out and hand to people she believed were runing their own chances at a successful life.
Her eyebrow, she felt, probably reached the top of her forehead with how she raised it. She hadn’t known he had been on an aeroplane. She had just learned what that was in Muggle Studies, and she had absolutely no intention of ever boarding one. They seemed lying flying death traps. Thalia didn’t even like mounting a broom. Whenever they had taken her flying when she had been younger, she had thrown fits about it. Not enough to get in trouble, but enough that her parents knew it wasn’t worth the effort. “I’m pretty sure I’ll stick with Magical transportation. I feel ill on the Knight Bus. I can only imagine how I’d feel on one of those.” Still, she would probably pick up the book and read it. Even if there was no chance in the world that she would ever board one, she’d find it interesting to see what he’d have to say about it. And, they had done research on that sort of thing. “Did you know that a Muggle flight from Nottingham to London would be about 66 galleons, 10 sickles, and 5 knuts?” She asked him, sure that it wasn’t too likely he knew the cost. “And, that is hoping that the flight is inexpensive.”
She couldn’t imagine wanting to do that, especially when it would take less time for a wizard to simply apparate or floo if they weren’t in a particular hurry. Still, she couldn’t help but pressing her lips together in a slightly agitated kind of way. It wasn’t that she was ashamed of her brother. She was not. She loved Cole very much. She just didn’t see how his job would be really practical. Say that he took a Bludger to the clavicle. That was the sort of thing that could happen in his line of career. It was very likely the St. Mungo’s could heal him, but say that the Bludger his acromion was injured? Even with therapy, he likely wouldn’t be able to play anymore. And, what would he have to fall back on? “Uncle, from the moment that I could be tutored, everything I did was to give myself a better future. Everything that I do makes me happy, or I wouldn’t be doing it. It’s true that I get stressed, but I also get a trophy in Hogwarts if I manage to make an O on all of my exams. I’m even sitting in sessions so that I may take exams of classes I didn’t pursue.” Thalia left out that she was paying for that little tidbit out of pocket. She’d brought that up with her father, and he had been quite clear. “I don’t mean to be rude, but it’s likely whoever came up with that saying never really had much money to begin with. I have learned that we live in a society - nay, a world in which money can actually buy you happiness. Am I saying that’s what I’ll be doing? Of course not.”

Philo chuckled again about Thalia not counting him out. "Well that's very kind of you to say, my dear," he said. "Always nice to know someone wishes me around a bit longer."Philo nodded about the airplane expenses. It was a bit pricey when he flew as well. "Well, from my research, many Muggles only make the occasional expense of it- once, perhaps twice a year," he said. "Though some apparently use them for purposes of business and their employers pay for the trips."Philo nodded as Thalia spoke of what made her happy, and he was glad she was happy. "Well I am glad you are content, dear Thalia," he said. "It always warms my heart to see that pretty smile of yours." He knew he was acting like the doting grand-uncle now, but really she, Cole, and Scorpius were the closest he had to grandchildren. Philo let out a stronger laugh when Thalia said whoever came up with that saying never had much money to begin with. "Actually I did... and unless you've forgotten, I am a Greengrass, and have never been without money," he said. "But while being reasonably wealthy has done me well enough, it has never made me happy. I owe my happiness to my wife, my work... and you, your brother, and your cousin Scorpius." He gave Thalia a warm smile as he took her right hand and patted it. THALIA EILEEN NOTT

Can we go back This is the moment | She shrugged her shoulders, a small smile on her face. It wasn’t really such a bad thing, was it? She realized that her parents didn’t really like her Uncle. What with his wife and his beliefs, they didn’t really see eye-to-eye. She might have been more open about it than some people gave her credit for, but all stereotypes and bases had a foundation somewhere. “I’m not sure what Aunt Jill would have to say about that. I would be willing to bet that she wanted you around longer.” She couldn’t really help the wry tone that had seemed into her voice towards the beginning, but she made an effort to lighten up her tone. After all, it was rare that Thalia got to see her Uncle Philotus at all. She didn’t want to mar what time they had in each other’s company by sprouting off the different beliefs within the families. She would do her best to stay away from that topic, lest they get in an argument. “That’s a ridiculous amount to pay. I agree that there are moments when such a thing seems necessary, but it all seems like too much of a hassle.”
It always weirded her out, to a degree, when people would tell her that she had a nice smile. More so if they told her that she had a pretty smile because it implied that she didn’t smile a lot. In a way, it almost offended her. She smiled from time to time. Sometimes, she smiled so much that her face hurt. Still, the blonde didn’t think that her Uncle had meant it in an offending kind of way. She hadn’t had the best experience when it came to doting grandparents - in fact, she hadn’t had any doting kind. Her mother’s parents were, well, similar to her mother in ways. And, well, she had never met her father’s parents and with good reason, too. “You know, Uncle, I don’t think that I’ve introduced you to Wallace.” She tilted her head up slightly, almost as if she was thinking about it. And, Thalia was. Wallace had, sort of, met her parents. He had stopped by the Grange before to pick her up for some of their dates over the summer, but she hadn’t actually managed to introduce him to her Aunt and Uncle. She’d have to do it, eventually. “Wallace Sinclair - he’s in the same grade as Katrina and I.”
Wallace, more often than not, was what kept her from losing her mind. She tended to get so stressed and overworked that she forgot to give herself that moment to breathe. That’s when Wallace most seemed like Merlin had sent him. Still, her darling boyfriend was much like her in the sense that he, too, never really had to work for a lot. She felt a small nerve underneath her eye twitch a little, but had to remind herself, again, that her Uncle Philotus had a different philosophy than she did. “It’s actually a common Muggle saying, as I’m sure you know, Uncle.” Thalia nodded her head. “There is a Muggle author in the States who said, ‘Money can’t buy happiness, but neither can poverty.’ I think I am inclined to side with him. That’s not to say that our family doesn’t make me happy. They do.” Even if she hadn’t spoken much to her either her parents or even Cole, really. She loved them, but she was inclined to believe that it would be her ambition and intelligence that would lead her most to her happiness. So, yes, what career she chose for herself would help.

Philo agreed that Jill wanted him around a good bit longer, and he her. he was cure given his bond with Cole, Scorpius and Astoria, they did too. "I'm partial to the idea of me being around myself," he chuckled. "We'll see what hand the Fates play."Philo decided Thalia and he weren't going to come to a compromise on the subject of air travel and decided to drop it. "If you wish to apparate to get from place to place, my dear, apparate away," he said. Philo raised an eyebrow over the mention of a boy. He had been curious when Katrina was mentioned as Cole's girlfriend, though he had heard that first from Daphne during one of her rants as opposed to Cole, and was equally curious now. "Oh?" he said. "I don't think you have. Tell me about this boy then."
Money vs. Happiness was another subject he needed to conclude with her. "Well bloody hell, someone beat me to it," he joked regarding the old saying. "Anyway you just do what your ambition wishes of you, and I trust you will be happy."THALIA EILEEN NOTT

Can we go back This is the moment | Thalia was not the type of girl who wore her emotions on her sleeve. She was not the type of girl who let emotions control her. She felt, and a little rightly so, that this was what separated her from her brother. This was - despite the fact that she loved him and had followed him like his shadow from the moment that she could walk - that no one had dared to compare the two of them while Cole had been at Hogwarts. It was why, despite the fact that her appearance was very much like the one of her mother, she had always been compared to her father. She didn’t base decisions on emotional appeal - she did so with a lot of logic. If she was insulted, she took it with grace. She didn’t ever immediately get her revenge, or was she particularly spiteful. At least, not at first. Like every good Slytherin, she waited until the perfect moment arose. And, if no such moment did, then she created her own so that she could properly execute any plan she might have had. It had worked thus so in her life. She expected it would work in her future. “Do you believe in the ‘Fates’, Uncle?” By this, she was a little surprised. Both of her families had origins with the Greeks. Part of her wondered if that wasn’t a sort of thing that he had picked up from them - the belief in the Fates.
After all, it wasn’t particularly often, but she did hear her father make mentions of some of the things that the Greeks had accomplished. There were several Seers that had come from that lineage, but there had also been witches and wizards. Perhaps the Nott family wasn’t the oldest one in the United Kingdom, but that didn’t mean that they weren’t a very prominent family in other countries. Even if it wasn’t the common thing to marry another pureblood anymore, and even if most people tended to frown upon that nowadays, she found that she didn’t particularly mind when it came to Wallace. When she looked up her family lineage, the Sinclair family and the Nott family was at a comfortable enough distance that she wasn’t worried. Being the girl that Thalia was, she had known what marrying family tended to do to children. And, she wasn’t an imbecile. She had no qualms about reading up what Muggles had written on the subject, and it didn’t take a genius of any sort to realize what happened. So, she had been careful. Once she had realized that she had mostly worried for nothing, she had allowed herself to be relieved. “We have been together for over a year now, longer than Cole and Katrina.” If she did her math right, that was. “Mother and father both approve of him, I think.”
But, she was also very much aware of how much her Uncle disliked her mother. She wasn’t sure how his emotions tended to fall when it came to her father, but she had this feeling that the information she had given him wouldn’t be enough for his curiosity to be satisfied. “He’s the only son of the Sinclair family. He asked me out after one of my patrols. Admittedly, I didn't look my very best.” Thalia didn’t gush very often. She could count the number of times that she had on one hand. Or, she could before right that moment. She felt her face heat up just a little, and she wondered what he would say if he could see her right at that moment. If she were being honest, he would probably tease her. Of course, he would be a model gentleman in front of her Uncle, but the moment that he left...the thought made her smile. “He’s not necessarily my opposite, but he keeps me calm. He doesn’t mind if he makes an A on an assignment instead of an O like I do, and he knows better than to overextend himself like me. He’s sweet and polite, but he can be fierce and unrelenting. I care for him very much, Uncle.” She pulled her hands inwards, lacing her fingers together and setting them calmly in her lap. This was a sudden realization, but one she knew had to happen in order for their futures to be more secure. “That being said, I don’t think I would move in with him right after Hogwarts. I love Cole and Katrina, too, but a part of me does feel like it’s a little soon. Or, maybe, that it would be too soon for me. Cole and Katrina are different, and I think that they have the right to live their lives how they please. If they think they’re ready, then who is Mother to tell them differently?”

Philo shrugged a little when Thalia asked him about believing in the Fates. "I suppose so," he said. "I suppose the family's old religion was one of the things I could never fully let go as rebellious as I was. I would like to think someone is controlling it all, but at the same time making us believe we are." Philo chuckled at this.
