Viona had spent the whole year taking nature walks. She enjoyed all of them, but the last one was always the saddest. She always dreaded saying good-bye to her animal friends. She especially hated saying good-bye to Boldfeather, Hagrid's favorite Hippogriff. She had befriended him some years ago, and she spent as much time with him as possible. And at the end of every year, she knew that he knew they wouldn't be seeing one another for a while. Viona sighed as she stepped up to him, did her bow, and then pet him after he approached.
"It won't be long, Boldfeather," she said. "Just a few weeks, and then I'll be back and we'll have lots of fun again." Boldfeather nuzzled his head against her and she giggled a little. "Want to go for a last walk together?" Viona had never tried to fly on Boldfeather. It wasn't that she was afraid, just that she never thought about it. She liked walking with him though, and often they would spend hours together before Viona had to return.

Sitting under a tree near the edge of the forest, Walker watched his squirrels scampering through the branches, playing. Knees up and arms around them, his head was not where it usually was since his encounter yesterday with Sophia. In fact, one would say he was a rather different and distracted young man! It seemed highly unfair of life when he thought about it that he would find a young lady who really liked him a lot just weeks before the end of the term and he would barely see her for months! Having had a taste of summer last year he remembered how enjoyable the summer had been, but now he sort of regretted that it would be so long...
One of the squirrels slipped up above him and fell and Walker (who had his wand out) was quick to gasp out "Wingardium Leviosa!" before she fell completely, catching the red squirrel before the ground. "Diffy! Be careful!" and flew her father up into the tree before letting her go. A shake of his head, partly in amusement, but then his mind fell right back into thoughts of Sophia's long neck and flushed skin and like most teenage boys he was completely gone again. He had managed at least two dates planned for the summer depending on where his father decided to take them this year. One in each month so he could see if his father would find the things she made worth selling in the bakery and a chance to give her feedback on them later.
Though if he could manage a few visits to the orphanage he might see her as well! His mind was full of thoughts of how glorious the summer could be when Viona came within sight, though his profile was to her at the time. He didn't hear her nor realize anyone was there till she was practically next to him and had said his name several times before he looked her way. "Wha...? Oh hey!" And that left him feeling slightly guilty as well as suddenly feeling protective over his 'secret' not so much that he had one so much as it felt like he was hiding one from his sister. Although why he felt that way he suddenly had no idea...

Viona turned and smiled at Walker, despite his outburst. She waved at him and was about to walk over when she heard Boldfeather make a somewhat hostile sound. She turned and saw that the Hippogriff also had a cautious look on his face, and that might not be a good thing for Walker. Fortunately, Viona knew well what needed to be done about it. She turned and gave her brother a more serious look.
"Walker, quick... bow," she whispered. "And don't forget to look at him when you do." Viona had a more pleasant meeting with Boldfeather some years ago, but she had also seen what happened to those who hadn't. None of them ended up being attacked, but several had ran out of the woods screaming. She didn't think Walker was the "run off screaming" type so she wanted to make sure he got on Boldfeather's good side and fast!

His mind on another subject entirely, it was a second before her words registered and he realized what kind of creature was beside her. Getting to his feet carefully (he did know about the creatures, but his sister had far more experience with them probably) he kept his eyes on the creature's face before he bowed. Also carefully. It was a moment of held breath before the Hippogriff also bowed and he stood up carefully.
Remembering their interests in diets, he also stepped back carefully before making a chirping sound which for the squirrels was a warning of danger. A glance up told him they weren't in sight so must have hunkered down as soon as the creature got close! Good thing his wand was down at his side, just in case! Now quite 'with it,' Walker looked at the creature again carefully, stepping closer only as long as the creature didn't seem to mind.
But he stayed on his sister's side.
"Sorry about that, I was thinking when I guess you got close, didn't notice you for a minute..." Walker loved his sister but right now he not only had things on his mind which distracted him, but also because his pets might be in danger. He had no interest in fighting the creature, but shielding them would be one of his first moves if things went wrong.

Viona sighed with relief when Boldfeather bowed back and stroked his head a bit.
"This is Walker, me brother," she said. "He's very kind too." She looked at Walker. "This is Boldfeather. Hagrid introduced us a few years ago, and we've been good mates since." The Hippogriff seemed a lot calmer now, giving Walker a somewhat friendlier look.
Viona seemed a bit worried when Walker said he didn't notice her at first. She wasn't upset about it or anything, just worried.
"Are you alright?" she asked, then giving him the usual hug she gave him in greeting. "You do look like you have a lot of your mind. You know you can talk to me about it if you like." It had almost been a year now since Walker was adopted, and Viona had already "forgotten" that he was adopted. It seemed like he had been her brother from day one, and that their problems had become each others' problems the way they discussed them with one another.

He nodded to the Hippogriff as she introduced him and smiled. "She's around to keep me in line." As she explained they were friends his eyes nearly crossed at the thought. Friends? Hippogriffs? His sister was surely unique! "Going for a walk then I take it? I am surprised you never mentioned him before." It sounded like they had been siblings forever the way he said it, but she had been so eager during the year to show him her version of Hogwarts that somehow he thought he had heard about it all. A soft push on her arm completed the slight tease with this statement.
Catching her worried look he hesitated before trying to smile disarmingly.
Hugging her back he said "Of course I am! Just thinking about stuff, that's all." He tried to sound confident and not bewildered and had no idea if she caught him or not, but he had to try, right? After all, technically he and Sophia had never said the words 'steady' or 'dating' just set up a date itself. So he wasn't actually avoiding the question; that was right he hoped. "Just big stuff on the mind. Has dad mentioned what we're doing this summer yet by the way?"
A glance up in the trees to make sure his pets were out of sight before he continued. "I might have a couple of friends to meet at some point, just wondered if I could tell them dates or anything." Hearing his own word he sort of talked hurriedly. "Not dates, I mean, just, you know, meeting up." Ah he was making a hash out of this...

Viona blushed a bit when Walker said she never mentioned Boldfeather to him.
"Sorry about that," she said to both of them, hoping she somehow didn't offend the Hippogriff either. "Guess it's been a bonkers year. I actually haven't seen Boldfeather here as much as I'd like." She smiled at the creature and pet him again.
Walker said he was alright, but Viona had read him well by now. Something was up. However, she wouldn't push him.
"Okay then," she said with a slight sigh. "Well, if something is, please tell me."
Viona wasn't completely sure what they were doing, but she did know roughly where they were going. She managed to get that much from their dad with a bit of coaxing.
"I'm not sure exactly where we're going there, but dad and mum said they were taking us to the States!" she said. "We're going to America, Walker!" She was beaming at that.
Viona caught on to Walker's mistake and very gently punched him on the arm.
"Walker..." she said with a playful voice. "Is there something you're not telling me........ about someone special, maybe?"

Accepting that it had been crazy enough, Walker didn't much object to her not having told him. There had been so much to share, fourteen year's worth of stories and knowledge between them because of the missed past. He tilted his head, that look on the face that said 'point taken' and let that pass. He was sure there were things he would forget about too as well! Besides, right after that she gave him a look which told him she had picked up on something. Dang! They had only been siblings a year, how could she already have a sense of him?! Trying an innocent face on for a faint hope, he blustered his way along.
"Oh if I am ever in trouble or danger, trust me sis, you will be the first to hear about it! We do have mutual protection to think about anyway," he said grinning and giving her a one armed hug. And honestly, Walker had rarely been out of the orphanage except for school and it already felt a bit like a vacation to him. Certainly from the home he had grown up in for sure! So when he heard of where she said his head swiveled to her, surprised. "What? You're kidding."
Muggle or not, America was one of those places far enough off it might as well be magical of it's own sort!
"Seriously? That's like on the other side of the world!" His eyes bugged at her, unable to fathom it for a moment; surely they didn't have enough money to go all around the world! Her grin defied him and he glanced away, surprised his father was making such plans. But then she also caught his mistake and caught on faster then he would have liked. Sisters! Especially little sisters he had heard could be curiously on top of their brother's dating situations and she certainly seemed to have him in her sights.
Furiously flushing, he glanced around to make sure no one else was nearby to overhear beside the Hippogriff who seemed unconcerned. "Um, maybe." He caught her eye and sighed, knowing she knew better. "Okay yes, but we have not been like official or anything so you can't tell anyone, okay?" His eyes pleaded with her not to go nuts telling people. Man! His parents were going to hear and he wasn't even sure yet what was happening. "She makes candy and I was going to see if Dad would let her put some in the bakery so she could get feedback on what sells and what doesn't if he got a share of it..."

Viona loved the idea of having someone to protect her. She was nervous because she heard that in one's sixteenth year, one was often approached by boys asking for dates. Viona pondered the idea of dating a nice boy, but she knew not so nice ones would approach her as well. It was good to have Walker around, and in her House as well.
"Alright," she said. "Same from me of course." She returned the hug and kissed him on the cheek.
Viona chuckled and nodded about America.
"Well that's where we're going!" she said. "I can't wait to find out where. Dad's particularly being secretive about that. It must be something incredible!"
Viona beamed when Walker said he might have someone.
"That's wonderful, Walker!" she said, giving him a big hug. "And I won't tell anyone, but I want to meet her! I promise I won't embarrass you! And that sounds amazing about the bakery."
A moment later, Viona looked at Walker and Boldfeather and a little idea came into her head. He leaned toward her brother.
"Want to see if Boldfeather will let us ride him?" she asked.

Getting a hug, Walker felt himself relax a bit; maybe his secret would remain so until he knew exactly what was going on between them. As she hugged him he had an idea and said to her softly "You know, Viona, when you start dating I'm going to be all over the place. Anyone breaks your heart I'm going to be like trying to kick them off the roof for doing so." She was adorable, but he could imagine some guys were going to be watching for a chance to get her curious about dating too. It was sort of surprising that except for that one Slytherin she hadn't yet actually!
"You still friends with that...what was his name, Cameron? What ever happened with him?" In other words, do I need to do something about him. He'd never expected to be the defensive big brother (heck never a brother in the first place) but the thought of her getting hurt made him angry. Fortunately they moved on into talk about that fabled place, America! "Well isn't that place supposed to be pretty amazing anyway? Anything there will be exciting and different, sis!"
Crimson in the face (or at least more then she had seen him before) he shook his head. "Meet her? You probably already know her actually, but she's still at the orphanage so I thought meeting her about the bakery stuff would give her a chance to get out, you know, be somewhere different." And him being the cause of it would surely get him top marks with her! Not just because he helped her with the candy selling stuff. "Wherever we go I'll have to make sure and bring her something back..."
The idea about riding caused him to smile and ruffle her hair. "You go ahead, I'm not going anywhere while I've got the squirrels up there. In fact, after you go, I can get them down and out of sight before you land I bet!"

Viona blushed a bit when Walker told her what he would do if anyone dated her and then broke her heart.
"Well... I'd have to date someone first..." she said. And Viona knew with her turning sixteen soon, being confronted with guys wanting to date her was bound to happen. She already had guys telling her she was pretty. "But if I date someone, I will make sure they're not blooming bonkers, so don't worry."
Viona blushed about Cameron. She did fancy the boy a bit, but never thought of the two dating.
"He's nice, but he's just me good mate," she said. "Why are you asking about him?" She kind of knew that answer.
Viona beamed about America.
"I think anywhere we go will be brilliant!" she said. "It will definitely be a new experience. We can try new types of food and just see how they live! That alone will make it a great trip!"
Viona now wondered who this girl was and if she indeed did know her.
"Well who is she, silly?" she asked. "I mean, you don't tell me to keep her a secret and then not tell me her name!" Viona stuck her tongue out at Walker.
Viona sighed when Walker said she could ride Boldfeather alone.
"I wanted to ride him with you, but... maybe next time," she said, though she gave Walker the puppy dog eyes.

Walker turned on her a look which said it was only a matter of time. Oh you will. You're pretty and kind and clearly talented,"" he said knowing this might make the blushing more so, "and I suspect you'd have been dating before now if you tried. And I do want you to be happy, Viona, but I'm going to be a rather tough big brother when it comes to how you get treated. If I think a guy's scum, I'm going to be telling you, trust me." Heck, if any guys dated her cause they thought they could charm her outta her pants he was going to be using his wand a lot! And then his fists!
"Well I would hope not! I suspect dad wouldn't be happy about you dating someone who was nuts in the first place!" He laughed. A glance at her face before he frowned. "Considering the topic I'm sure you know why I ask, you did seem to like the idea of being around him and he's sort of got a rep. I asked around to be sure. I'm sort of glad he's getting married," 'And you'd better avoid him near the time his wedding comes around in case he decides to get some wildness out,' he thought but didn't say. She might be smart, but she was fairly clueless about dating he was fairly sure and especially about what boys were interested in.
On the topic of America they were in agreement however! "Man, I just can't even imagine where we would go. Has he ever talked about it before? I mean there are all those big cities, but I understand they have giant waterfalls and huge trees too! Trees so big you can't get them in a picture even!" He'd seen some attempts, but really the pictures didn't seem to do it justice, not by a long shot. Then it was his turn to blush more as she pushed him for her name. "Ah...she's a Ravie. Sophia, the one with the long blond hair and the pale skin..." Ah man, just thinking about her...
"Um, she's been in my classes, we just sort of hoo--I mean met up in the hallways one day this week." Gods that had sounded bad! Thank goodness he didn't think his little sister knew much about dating! "I mean she's really sweet and soft...natured, you know." His blush increased. He was distracted enough by this he totally missed the puppy dog eyes she tried to guilt him with...

Viona formed a big smile when her brother complimented her. It was really sweet of him to say such things, though Walker always had a kind word for her.
"Thank you," she said. "I have gone on dates... well sort of. One was a blind date I signed up for last term and the other was a surprise date at the Valentines Day dance. But those were just dinner and talking, nothing more."
Viona sighed about Cameron getting married. It did make her wonder what could have been.
"I promise, Cameron is and always has been just a good mate of mine," she said. "Don't you go nutters on me, Walker." She chuckled at that.
Viona was more and more excited about the trip to America by the minute.
"This is the first time dad's said something," she said. "He and mum must have been really wanting to keep it secret. But we'll find out soon. Dad says we're going shortly after the term ends."
Viona chuckled at how nervous Walker was talking about Sophia.
"Ooooh... big brother is in love," she said, singing it a tad. "I'm so happy for you though."

Catching her around the middle in a on armed hug, Walker exclaimed "Hey, no problem with dinner and talking! In fact, why don't you make that your signature date? that it's always just that? Then you will always know what to expect..." He grinned, wishing she would fall for just that actually. Wouldn't that make his life easy! "No need to do any more then that till you turn what, thirty-five?"
He didn't miss the sigh. "Oh ho," he said reaching over and slightly pinching her cheek playfully, "you DO have the hots for him! I knew it! You secretly think he would be good for you!" He teased but he didn't care for the look; it meant trouble in the near future if the boy saw it; he did have a rep after all nearly married or not. "Oh I won't go nutters, but I'm not the one blushing when it's mentioned, sis."
It seemed only appropriate that he have a boy to tease her about!
He only wished it didn't seem likely she was fond of Clark.
"Oh? That quick?" That seemed promising if they were having trouble keeping it secret themselves! Despite himself, Walker felt a little thrill. "I'll, ah, tell her later in the summer then." She sang about it and he lurched at her, tickling her sides in revenge. "hey now! No singing it out! Someone might hear you!" he said, half teasing half meaning it.

Viona chuckled at Walker's telling her not to worry until she was thirty five.
"You're bonkers today, you know that?" she said. "I promise I'll find someone special though. Someone you'll approve of."
Viona blushed and hid behind Boldfeather a bit when Walker said she had the hots for Cameron.
"I do think he's handsome okay, but we're just mates and I mean that," she said. "So bugger off about that."
Viona then nodded about the trip.
"That quick!" she said. "And dad seems really, really anxious to go too, so it must be a brilliant place. I can't wait!"
Viona then giggled about singing it out.
"Oh relax," she said. "Boldfeather is the only other one listening, and he's not going to tell anyone. Are you, mate?" She kissed Boldfeather on the beak once Walker had stopped tickling her. The Hippogriff seemed completely thrown off by the convo, but obviously not hostile by seeing Viona get tickled. It was probably because she laughed.
"Speaking of Boldfeather here, I need to get him back to his family," she said. "You can come if you want."
(Since this is a school thread, we probably need to wrap it up.)
