The Comatose Don't Dance and Tell...

He had done right by choice of location of this little tournament. With it being the weekend he needed to give his customers just reason to blow off the Quidditch game, and the trip to Hogsmeade. He had to sweeten the pot so to speak so location was key for the little illegal Game of skill and courage.

The abandon buildings that lined France’s coast of Bénodet served a perfect cover. He had done well in placing the necessary safe guards to keep the muggle population from investigating it wasn’t that difficult though he didn’t want to risk it turning into a fiasco, and finding out that not more than half a mile away there was a fair as people of France celebrated some obscure muggle day of celebration.

He was even happier that Ester Camble, and Augustine Holbrook had really pulled out the stops on decorating with charms they had lined the jousting area that was spaced between the two buildings with floating blue flamed lanterns and the exposed openings in the buildings where the crowd would gather and sit. Was lined with similar lanterns and rugs and the top hosted a Emerald Green canopy where apparently he and they would sit.

The first to appear by means of port key was of course his most popular Flier.. His cousin whom appeared an hour prior to the rest of crowd began to assembling.. Archer noted his cousin appeared wearing his house Quidditch robes due to he had till faking an injury had been playing which annoyed Archer slightly because he had money riding on his best flier, but apparently the Captain of Slytherin’s team had other obligations besides those to blood relation..

Tempted to argue he suppressed the urge to say something as he knew his cousin would only scoff and point out that he was there.. Knowing it was a pointless venture as Fox was insanely stubborn, simply wrote off the annoyance as his cousin muttered that he had everything under control.

Attempting to remind Foxer of his obligation as he was forced to let it go when Foxer admitted that he did think of everything the Healer at the school was nursing a first year they had forced to drink some Poly, and that the whelp only whined a bit when they broke his arm. It honestly surprised him to know that Foxer would go to that length to ensure secrecy. He didn’t get a chance to say anything because Foxer told him to shove out un-less he wanted to hold his Jock while he changed, which if anything did bring back a feeling of normalcy between them.

By night fall they had gathered a substantial crowd enough to garner eighteen jousts.. And fill the exposed doorways and windows of both buildings. He could see the bright colorful lights of the carnival in the distance from the canopy of the top building where he sat watching the jousts with Ester, and Augustine at his side. Foxer sitting on the other side of Ester looking annoyed which was easy to see because Ester was asking more questions about jousting rather than actually watching the joust that she had told him now 12 times that she was a fan of..

Archer leaned out trying to block out the exchange to his left his focus on the joist that was currently earning him a bit of gold.. Arthur Redrickson a Third year Hufflepuff whom was not affiliated with a quidditch team at school was a preparing to take off against a Fagen Ericson a 5th year from Gryffindor who was the obvious crowd favorite one alot of people questioned on why he didn't bet on..

Archer kept his reasons to himself for one he had known the Head Mistress had approached Arthur several times to try out for the team.. He knew that the boy came from a long line of lightly quick seekers who had played professionally.. The boy was small and wiry and Archer didn't doubt that he knew enough on when to swing that beater's mallet..

Archer's assumptions were proved correct within moments when Arthur kicked off and torpedo'd down the track toward Fagen who was not nearly as quick.. Archer stood up as Arthur flipped downward and slid beneath the swing of Fagen's beater's mallet and delivered a wood snapping it to base of Fegan's broom Archer watched amused as the hit made the back of Fegan's broom split before the weight finished the broom off causing Fegan to drop down about 40 feet till Foxer's Hovering charm caught him by the foot.. Before he hit the ground..

Foxer dressed in all black robes, and finally out of his chair. Archer didn't doubt the reason for his cousin action had more to do with a chance to escape the nuisance Ester rather than actual concern for Fegan.. Most enjoyed seeing a flier take the dive of shame into the murky waters that waited for them below.. So Archer didn't doubt his cousin's action came from the thrilled for having a reason to get up, and move with the annoyance that was Ester. Though Archer couldn't be sure not with Foxer's always cloaked expressions that rarely gave anything way.. Though with tense lock of the jaw he could tell that his cousin was nervous, he could only guess ass to why.. He figured it had to due with the dreaded wait that all Jousting Flier's waited for.

Archer studied his cousins' face which was tense liken normal he watched as his cousin grimaced and looked at his mahogany Firebolt resting against his chair.. He noted the first bit of concern for of all things a old broom.. Not a broken arm or collar bone that he had gotten weeks before.. of all things a stupid heirloom.. He winced and looked away trying to push that look of worry on his cousins face from his mind.. Knowning that Foxer waited for the probable to happen that call to be challenged.. It was only a matter of time before someone would, after all one could not remain un-beatable forever.. And with a prize bucket of 78 Galleons resting on his head he knew greed would give the courage to challenge.. What Archer didn't know was who, and How the Who would change the course of His and Foxer's life forever..

The Hawthornes went to France every year to keep up with their relations with prominent wizarding families, meaning Lyla was dragged along and forced to attend long days filled with boring tea parties, shopping for uncomfortable, lacy and expensive dresses and dress robes, and by night she was forced to attend balls and dinner banquets - all full of airheaded rich families who seemed to have nothing better to do. However, Lyla Hawthorne, the eldest daughter to Lucas Hawthorne and frankly, the secret disgrace of the Hawthornes, has no plans to attend the luncheon her family was going to today. Today she had something better to do, and that was to make a name for herself in front of her fellow classmates that didn't include "brainiac", "the veela girl" or "that girl with a bad temper".

With her long blonde hair carefully hidden in an old Keeper's hat she snagged from her uncles' trunk, tinted goggled hiding her eyes, and wearing clothes that were purposely too big for her, she approached the selected location for the jousting tournaments with her Ravenclaw robes draped over her arm and her broom in her hand. Ever since she had joined the Quidditch team as a Beater, she was the laughing stock of her team and always benched her simply for her small stature and her pretty looks...Not to mention she was a female. Quidditch seemed to be dominated by male figures and today, she was going to prove them all wrong.

Lyla sat quietly in the makeshift stands amongst her peers, quietly observing the little tournament with a small smirk on her face. She had total confidence in herself and her plan, despite being the size of a third year. Perhaps it would play to her advantage. The fifteen year old threw her robes on and rubbed her broom's handle a bit, waiting for this current joust to be over so she could challenge him. He was a tall, brown haired Slytherin with a rather handsome face... and he was so far undefeated in this little underground ring. Her smirk broadened and her pulse quickened, adrenaline already rushing through her as it approached. The older Gryffindor who was up against a younger Hufflepuff was surprisingly knocked off his broom.

As the Hufflepuff touched down to the ground, Lyla made sure all her hair was still tucked away under the Keeper's hat, and she stood up. She knew better than to speak because her voice would undoubtedly give away her gender, so instead she chose to be mysterious and dramatic. She pushed her way through the stands, not caring who she bumped into. She raised her wand in the air, sending sparks up to draw attention to herself, and once she gained everyone's attention, she pointed to the undefeated Slytherin, motioning for him to join her in the makeshift arena.

She picked up a beater's bat and motioned again with her hand for the Slytherin to join her, her confident smirk finding its way onto her face again. At this point, she didn't care if they found out that she was a girl (since she couldn't hide the inherited, natural grace she got from her Veela genetics), she was already causing a scene by her mysterious, silent demeanor. She adjusted her Ravenclaw robes and her goggles, looking awfully calm and collected for someone who had never done this sort of direct joust in her life. She had, however, had plenty of practice dodging things from her Veela grandmother whenever she got extremely upset, along with her little sisters...And in hard Quidditch practices where the team didn't take too kindly to her. They tried scaring her off so they could replace her, but she wasn't scared off that easily. In fact, she was able to dodge hits and take hits a lot better than some of her fellow wuss teammates. As her opponent approached, she gave him a small, courteous salute, and mounted her broom- prepared for the beginning of the match.

Just like he knew it would happen, it did. He felt a rush of adrenaline that was almost palatable. He felt the skin on his forearms prickle with excitement when it happened. It wasn't an amplified voice like it normally was instead all he saw was a flicker of bronze and blue sparks erupt from the end of a wand that belong to what appeared a third year that had borrowed his brother's or father's apparel..

Naturally he looked to Archer, and was about to sit back down in obvious rejection as he didn't like taking pot shots against kids.. After all Archer was the one to get a personal amusement from knocking first years down the stairs. However he knew to reject would cost gold and there would be a few that would be so stupid as to suggest he was scared.. Instead he shook his head and grabbed his broom and looked at the figure that was pointing at him..

"Your on.. "

Taking a running start from the stands he jumped on his broom and bolted up towards the his end of the jousting arena. Looking at Archer who looked on with bemused interest.. Most of the stands where on their feet shouting his name.. he twirled the beaters bat absently as he watched the opposite rider with the eagle eyed precision of a man who loved a good challenge. Waiting for Archer to cast the spell to signal them to start.. He stared down the long stretch of lantern lit air and waited to for the signal to knock them down in hopes of getting some real challenges.

At first, the brunette champion looked as if he wasn't going to accept her challenge, which made her cheeks flush with color. No- he HAD to do it, he had to joust her- wasn't that the rules of challenging or something? Lyla gripped her broom tight as she walked down, her heart beating in her chest. After a moment of delay and what seemed like an eternity of waiting, the champion jumped onto his broom and fly to the arena. She mounted her broom and kicked off as well with the beater's bat in her hand. This was it- make it or break it. It was an excellent plan to get noticed, but now would be the part that her intelligence had no power over- whether she would actually win the joust or not. Most of the people were shouting his name- Foxer. "Well well, Foxer, you're going down." she muttered under her breath with determination.

The signal went off and it was official- the joust was on. Holding her beater's bad out and leaning forward on her broom to accelerate, she gritted her teeth. As she neared Foxer, her eyes widened- MERLIN'S BEARD THE BOY HAS A PRETTY FACE she thought to herself. Whether it was the fact that she was goggling at him, if it was luck, or her inexperience- she would never know. But the next thing she knew, she felt the bat hit her square in the stomach and she coughed, trying to gain back the air that had just been knocked out of her. The force of the hit not only made her wobble on her broom, but it had forced a thin strand of her blonde hair out of the keeper's hat she had it hidden in, but she couldn't tell and apparently neither could the crowd. They didn't react odd or exclaim that she was in fact a girl. They cheered that their champion had landed the first it. She turned her broom around, facing him again but now on the opposite side of the makeshift arena.

It had to have been luck. Lyla gripped her bat tighter and narrowed her eyes from behind the goggles. She was determined to win this thing.
