The Halloween Masquerade Ball was a big relief for every student. A chance to let the stress brought on by classes go and enjoy the holiday festivities set up by the staff. Everywhere you looked, guys and girls had pulled out their best Dress Robes for the occasion, aiming to impress not only their dates, but to turn the heads of everyone else in attendance and bring a little attention their way, whether negative or positive. Honestly, some of the girls from all of the four houses looked absolutely breath-taking when they were out of the usual school attire and had taken the time to doll themselves up. Even Professors had taken the time to get all dressed up for the occasion, and no matter how many times he saw it, still surprised Quentin. Especially when Professor McGonagall would cross his line of sight. Seeing the Headmistress with her hair let down was... different, very different.
Stepping through the doors of the Great Hall, Quentin moved his head from left to right as he scanned what he could see of the large crowd through his masquerade mask. The dance floor was packed with students, the walls lined with both students and faculty members who were supervising the inside to make sure things didn't get too.. out of hand on the floor. Which was expected of them, couldn't have students that close to one another.
Gaining a few waves from a few house mates of his as they emerged from the dance floor to head over to the refreshments table, Quentin nodded and waved back before he moved his feet forward to hear into the packed crowd, who were in for a treat and didn't even know. The music could do for a change, and Quentin was the one who planned to give it. This was a party after all, and he was in the mood for a wicked evening with the rest of the students inside. Climbing on stage after a slow proceeding through the crowded dance floor, Quentin cleared his throat before grabbing the mic stand and bringing the mic to his lips after he moistened them. "How's everyone doing this evening?" He asked awaiting a response from his fellow peers. He needed no introduction in whom he was, so wasted no time in giving one or telling the students just what he was up on stage for. Clearing his throat again, he then began, "Unh, witches write my name upon their window pane, daydreamin' of the potential like I slipped them some Amortentia.." Quentin began his rap without a beat before the house band followed his lead and played a great beat for him to finish his self-written lyrics that were certain to get the crowd hyped and going.
An hour would pass before Quentin stepped off the stage after he finished singing a song. His forehead was lightly covered in a thin sheen of perspiration from the rising temperature in the room as he performed for the students. He was met with a roaring applause as he made his way through the dance floor to head on over to the refreshments table for a well earned drink receiving praise all along the way.

One would think that going alone to an event like the masquerade would do a lot in the way of bruising a Slytherin's ego. After all, it was an event where one got to show off their outfit, their date, and their dancing skills. But Darrius Zabini, seventh year Slytherin, couldn't be less concerned. Maybe a bit upset that he wasn't the one holding Thalia's hand and treating her to a dance, but he could get over that easily. He figured that, being alone here meant he only had to worry about one person's enjoyment throughout the event: his own. Going with a date would leave him having to worry about feelings and how she was liking everything. If he wanted to go participate in a contest, or get some drinks, he'd have to see if she wanted to. Darrius wasn't selfish. He just didn't want to put effort into pleasing anyone else at the cost of his own pleasure unless he actually really liked them.
He walked in, dress robes as wonderful as he was, and made his way around everything. He nodded to some friends, talked to others, and made his way around the now-very-crowded Great Hall, looking for anything that grabbed his interest.When he heard a very familiar voice call out the beginning lines to a Wrap song. After listening, he could do nothing but grin and bob his head to the nice beat. Quentin Swift was damn good at rapping. Darrius's father was strongly against the idea of Wrap and anything like it, so Darrius had come to Hogwarts with the same attitude towards the music. Until one day, he heard Quentin freestyling in their dorms. Darrius would try and deny it, but he'd been in love with the genre since then, and had even gotten his mother to give him permission (and money) to go to a big concert near their home.
After Quentin was done, Darrius made his way from where he and a few other bachelors had situated their selves to listen together (it was a bit awkward looking being completely alone on a dance night) and ventured towards the refreshment table. With all the excitement and people, it was getting rather hot, especially in his thick dress robes, and nothing was sounding better then some pumpkin juice. Or wine, if they had it. Upon arrival, he was a bit disappointed to see that they didn't, but helped himself to pumpkin juice anyways. He turned, about to make his way back to where he and the other single blokes had situated themselves, when he glanced upon a familiar face. "Quentin! That was brilliant!" he said. Darrius wasn't one to offer too many nice words, usually, but he needed to give credit where credit was due. "I'm surprised your alone. How many offers have you turned down from the witches?" he asked his Veela friend, taking a sip of pumpkin juice. tag; @mutantx1 notes; hope this is alright.

As he made his way to the refreshments table, Quentin reached out and grabbed an empty goblet which he immediately filled with a purple juice that had what looked like dozens of ice cubes floating about. Hopefully this was the Party Punch that Quentin hoped it was and not just some random purple concoction that one of the professors had crafted and just put out hoping that someone would drink it. Filling up his goblet with the drink, he brought it up to his nose where he gave it a few whiffs. Just as he thought, it was Party Punch, the fruity smell of the drink was undeniable to his well familiarized nose. Bringing it up to his lips, Quentin took a long drink of the punch, allowing the flavor to wash over his taste-buds. With how thirsty he was, he drank nearly a third of the contents before he would bring the cup down from his mouth for a break. Quickly he refilled what he had drank, this time adding a few ice cubes into the drink. A friendly voice sounded over to his right that he recognized easily even among the loud crowd behind them.
"Thanks Darrius, I appreciate it." Quentin replied. All the while a large grin on his features as he moved out of the way to give those in line a chance at the various drinks set up along the length of the table. "Trust me mate, you wouldn't believe me if I told you. I swear they were like a swarm trying to approach me at times." Taking another sip of the party punch, Quentin came to stand in front of his fellow house mate.
"Almost had to resort to using the Disillusionment Charm just to get around, y'know." Rolling his eyes, Quentin laughed off his "troubles" before he flipped the question back on to Darrius. "What about yourself, what lovely dame are you here with? Or are you beating them off with a Beater's Bat too?"

Darrius enjoyed few people's company as much as he enjoyed Quentin's. While the Zabini lad and Scorpius Malfoy went back to childhood, it was rather awkward with Scorpius's relationship with Rose Weasley. Especially with the way he got his panties in a bunch whenever Darrius so much as loosely mentioned the Weasley. Which was a real pain.Quentin had never been that guy. You know, the one who completely forgot about all his friends once he got in a relationship, then expected them to up his self-esteem once they broke up. Nah, Quentin was a pretty chill dude.
Darrius moved out of the way with him, grabbing a Cauldron Cake along the way. Taking a sip, he said "I'm solo for this one mate. Fortunately. Remember that Ravenclaw girl? " Now, before anything else was said, it should be noted that, externally, she was a really nice person.Nice smile, nice clothes, nice ars... er, you get the point. She was pretty nice on the inside to. There was just a... few things that could be changed. "She sent me another three letters. Just this morning, in fact." he shivered. He was really hoping that she wasn't here. He'd tried not to over-do anything with his mask so as to not stand out, but looking around a bit at the other masks at the ball, it looked like he would stand out by not standing out. How in the hell did those weird masks with beaks become popular? tag; @mutantx1 notes;
