Despite what his family told him and his sister bragged, Walker didn't feel handsome at all. While he had several friends who were female, none of them had shown the slightest interest in dating except the one who was mad it seemed. And she hadn't explained yet why she couldn't go out with him. As a result, his self-confidence was fairly low as he stopped at a window and looked out onto an approaching storm. The sky wasn't black, but it was rolling clouds turning that way soon you could see, a building storm which would probably bring rain about the time it reached them. Wearing a blue shirt and jeans, he was not really dressed for going outside right now otherwise it would be no contest. He needed a distraction from his inward thoughts. And although he had no fear of being in the Lake either during a rainstorm, it would be darker and thus possible vampire fears were heightened in his mind. And risking himself around vampires was just stupid on his part, entirely. Anyone who passed him in school could detect a slight smell of garlic around him, but not on his breath. A sigh, deeper then normal, and he resolutely turned away from the window. He really needed an adventure or a project or ...something to make him feel more alive again. Finding his place in his family, coming to terms with being a stranger merging in, to being accepted-- it was all a whirlwind of emotions and this year had been a tricky one for that indeed! A ghost of a smile crossed his lips as he briefly imagined what his little sister would do if she caught him moping somewhere. The visual of her tackle hugging him in the middle knocking him over caused a half-cough of laughter before he shook his head. After all he didn't need to ignore the issues, but face them head on.

Sophia was missing her friends back at the orphanage but she was glad to be at school. Something about being around other Wizards made her feel more hole then the half person she was. She walked down the stairs in a purple shirt and a black skirt with purple sneakers. As she made her way around the corner and towards her favorit spot to study she saw a boy looking out the window. Part of her wondered what was wrong, but the other part told her to just walk away and go study but it seemed that her caring side took the more active role.
Walking up she looked at him, he was quite handsome and he was pretty cute, this caused the girl to turn a bit red knowing that she was actually checking him out. Lightly turning her eyes away from him she smiled. "Hi I'm Sophia, You look like you could use a friend." Sophia didnt really tell people she liked them but this was just a cute boy and like most girls it made her blush. "I was going to go to a secret hide out to eat a home made baked treats, but I do believe sharing said spot would be fun. I do have baked treats enough for two." The girl smiled. She loved to bake and sharing her baked goods were just one way that made her smile.
Sophia smiled brightly and looked the boy in the eyes. "Though I do understand if you wish not too." Sophia knew well from the orphanage that some people didnt wish to talk about things but that wasnt going to stop her from trying to befriend someone.

Hearing a voice, Walker turned his head and saw a somewhat familiar face. A friend? Well yes, you could say that. "I could at that, it's just one of those days when my head is far too full!" He saw her slightly pink cheeks darken and wondered why she was embarrassed. She made him an offer of company and he smiled suddenly. "Why thanks, I think I'll definitely take you up on that! Which way is this secret hidey-hole?" The mention of baking reminded him of the summer and learning to work in the Bakery his new father ran.
Why did she seem familiar?
Turning to follow her, his own male habits (like many teenage boys) caused him to glance down, partly at the outfit and his eyes fell on her shoes. "Nice shoes, purple is a good color..." As they started to walk, him following her lead he decided she looked nice, but he wasn't going to jump to any conclusions again, not after what had already happened that way with another! "I don't want to seem rude, but you seem familiar and I can't quite piece out why..."
Was she in his classes? Possibly, but not his house he was fairly sure. And maybe she was just quiet in the background in some classes they shared. If she was in another house that might account for it. "If I have missed you in class, I'm very sorry about that. I'm not all that good at paying attention to people around me sometimes." No, he was good at fidgeting in class for sure, as well as being a champion looking out the window for distraction kid.

The blonde nodded. "Yes, days like those can happen." Leading the boy down the hall she smiled brightly when he spoke about her shoes. "Thank-you, Purple is the color of the day." It was quite a walk to her hide out but the hide out was beautiful when you got their. Looking up she smiled at him. Now that she was looking at him she wondered where he knew him from. Sophia then listened to him, "Oh no thats not rude at all, I know that i know you from somewhere too but from school is not the place. I mean yeah I have seen you around but its something else. Seeing we dont have any classes together this year."
She then stopped and turned looking at him, lightly she grabbed his hand to stop him as well. Stepping up on her tippy toes she took a closer look at the boy, Now she was close to him, they were face to face. His eyes, his hair, the smell, it was all coming together, her blue eyes lit up and she smiled even brighter. "I think I know." the girl stepped back and smiled at him lightly letting go of his hand. "Their it is." The girl turned towards the wall that they were standing in font of. Lightly placing her hand on the wall it slowly turned in to a door. Pushing it open she walked in. "I found this place when i was a second year. Its like a little get away when I start having troubles with my memories. You are welcome to come here anytime you want." The girl then opened up the small box that seemed to be sat on a table and two chairs that awaited the two.
"Oh and I'm sorry about getting in your personal space. "The girl turned a dark red thinking about how close she actually was to a boy. Taking out some of the sweets she placed them on the table and took a seat. "I think I know why I look familiar to you." As she looked down the blonde hair on the right side of her head fell from behind her ears and covered half of her face.

He nodded, but grimly for a moment as the thoughts returned briefly. "Yes, I'm afraid so. I certainly wish they did not..." Her other comment caught his ears more so. "Wait, you mean you change the color each day? How many do you alternate with?" He looked amused. His little sister wasn't that particular, but some of the girls he had as friend did change patterns frequently. Guys were much more simple usually. Usually. He had realized there were some odd balls who dressed to the nines, but most didn't bother.
Hmm, curious. "Well this summer I worked in a bakery in Diagon, maybe you came in and out of there?" That marked him easily enough and it was a public place, not that he had worked the front all that often. He also realized he hadn't mention it was his new family's place, but one didn't just come out with 'I'm adopted' easily either. And then she did something which caught him off guard; she stopped suddenly without warning except for taking his hand and for just a second he was on his toes before he rocked back. She stared directly into his face and his eyes widened slightly in surprise.
No he certainly would have remembered THAT face!
"Um, there what is?" And she turned and pressed her hand against the stone. As she opened the door, his eyes took the chance to examine her backside and decided to up his first impression to pretty. Following her inside, he turned back as the door shut, looking for the hinges and saying "So no lock, but it opens at a touch? Do you need to be doing anything else?" He took in the table and chairs, simple things tucked into a small space.
It did make a good hiding spot and he thought that would be important to remember. And then she blushed furiously and he raised an eyebrow. "Can I ask why you are blushing? It's not like you kissed me or hugged me, so no reason for a blush I would think..." But then she added she thought she knew where he recognized her from. "Oh really? Tell," he said with an easy smile.

Sophia nodded, "I guess you should think about the area and the items inside to get in, the castle will do the rest." When he noticed the red color on her face she tried so hard to hide it. "Well most would say its because your cute, you know and well its just the normal thing that some girls do, I'v noticed it in the other girls when they find boys cute. Though I really have no place speaking about it because I'm just Sophia." The girl smiled brightly. She then offered him some baked sweets. "I call this one Chocolate bird." The treat was a small white egg. She placed one on her hand and lightly closed her hand around it, once she opened it a small little chocolate bird sat in her hand. It chirped a few times and made a cute tune before turning back to chocolate.
Placing the bird in her mouth and taking a nibbling on it she looked at the other treats. It was always in her dreams to do things that made people smile. Once he wanted to hear what she thought he was from she thought about it. "Well im not real sure how to say it." Her blue eyes dazed abit as she remembered what it was like before she knew she was a wizard. She was a quite girl who only spoke to those who needed help. She knew who everyone in the orphanage was and she was sure she knew that he was from the same place she lived. "Well a long time ago something happen and I ended up in an Orphanage." The girl spoke quietly, "I believe thats where i know you from. But its probably not the truth. I mean I'm sure we would have spoken or something." Truth was she did remember him, after she had gone to the ER he was their when she returned. They had been friends when they were younger but as they grew up they drifted apart.

Oh so this was a magic room? He glanced back at the door again, eyebrows raised. "Oh. Interesting, never ran across that before. I'll have to remember it." When she tried to hide her face there was a twitch of his lips as he tried not to grin then sat down across from her. "Ah I see. I'd rather be handsome, but if that's what it is..." he shrugged and wondered what she was thinking about. When she said she was just Sophia, he gave her a look.
"I'm Walker, nice to meet you Sophia. And you shouldn't put 'just' in front of your name, I would say already you are kind and nice and pretty. That's better then the average girl with your name I am sure." Then she showed she had talent as well! Walker had seen the Chocolate Frogs and those had taken years for the inventor to figure out a charm for and she had something of a similar nature already? Very impressive!
"And you made this? See, talented as well. Seems like you must be something special, Sophia." As she spoke he listened intently and she had gotten to the part about 'ended up' and it was there in his head, orphanage before she said it. It was the way kids spoke about it, that end-of-the-road sound in her voice that clued him in. The enlightenment was in his eyes too as he sat back more, thinking back. "No...I think you are right actually..."
After another minute he said a few names that he could remember of people she had been around, knowing as he said it the answer. "You just hung out with different kids which makes sense, I mean it was a big place. You can't know every person easily." He gave her a look which said she understood part of his issues and nodded, more confident now. "I just got adopted this summer and everything has been a whirlwind since then."

Sophia thought she said something wrong She spoke but soon he said she was pretty and that made her smile more then anything. She positively glowed with happiness. "Walker, thats a handsome name for a handsome man." She smiled at him. "Thank you, They were a bit difficult for me to make when I was a first year but I figured it out. I would share the recipe with you if you like." She knew that the recipe would be better used with him then it would be if she kept it a secret.
Though her eyes lit up when he confirmed her questions on the Orphanage. When she heard about getting adopted she smiled, this made it seem like their was hopes that teenagers do get adopted. "Thats amazing. I'm sorry that its a lot of emotions to take in. I'll always be here for you if you need to talk about it. I can offer two ears to listen, two arms to give support and any treats to make a sour day to a sweet one." She smiled and hoped he would accept her friendship. She was really excited that she found someone that knew what it was like growing up in the orphanage. Taking a bite out of some rainbow colored cookies which would taste like skittles.

Man. She called him a Man and it was hard not to see the interest which came to his eyes, not to mention the pleased look. She seemed to have forgotten he had said he worked in a bakery which mean mostly breads and such treats. They didn't work in candy making so much though he could see why they would be fun for a kid. "What? Oh you shouldn't just give something like that away, you should hold onto it till you can make them for sale yourself. I know the guy who made the Chocolate Frogs still keeps his secret."
A curious look at her as she came out with more sweets. He suspected baking was not where her talent lay so much. "Do you often make candies and treats like these? I mean, we made a lot of kinds of breads and pastries, but not so much desserts and these seem--" And idea occurred to him and he narrowed his eyes just a touch. "Say, just a thought. Would you consider making these in the summer for sale?"
As she spoke about the situation, he raised an eyebrow at her. "You didn't say, are you still in the orphanage?" She didn't sound like it and she did sound much more cheerful then most. "This is cool, you and I already can share so much others won't get!" And that added another reason to find her interesting; did she want friendship or would she be interested in more eventually? She had called him a 'man' and that had another whole level to any boy's mind!

Sophia smiled, she loved candies. Creating the sweet treats were one if her free time things to do. Though she never did think about selling them, she thought candy was better when home made and not bought. But the idea of her actually selling her home made goodies sounded like a fun endever. The girl offered him a one of her cookies. "I do, Making candy and sweet treats is like a chance to see things in another point of view. You can take something sour and make it sweet." The girl seemed to speak as if she was talking about something she could talk about for hours. She seemed to stop and think about selling them during the summer. "Well it might be very nice to get out and do things during the summer."
Though as they talked about the orphanage it was true that she was still in the place where she had been for as long as she could remember, even if she couldnt remember the times before, having a family, a mother a father. Sophia didn't know what it was like but she did know many of the kids that got adopted out. "Well im still there. I'm one of the oldest kids to still be in the orphanage. Though i find it nice, it means I can be the older sister everyone can look up to." Sure there was times that Sophia found it hard that she was 16 and alone, but she tried to stay positive for the younger kids around her. The secret hide away was always a place she could just get away from it and just be herself.
Perhaps Sophia found something in Walker that would help her as well. "I agree," The girl smiled. "I;m glad we can share this." The girl looked at him and lightly batted her eye lashes at him. She did find Walker attractive, after all he was more sweet then the other guys she knew. Perhaps something would come from this new found friendship, something that would spark something new in the girls eyes.

She had quite a nice smile and it cheered him some to see it. Apparently she really enjoyed making candies (well everyone needed a hobby of course) and it seemed funny to him that the one girl who had called him handsome also had a possible future in the food selling industry. He grinned at her speaking about wanting to get out some over the summer. "Ah well then I might have a solution for you. See, my new dad runs a bakery which happens to be in one of the main selling spots for the magic market," he said clearly fully aware he had already told her it was in Diagon and that he was being clever (or charming maybe, some girls liked that).
"I think I could be persuaded to put out some samples from a close friend of mine if she was so inclined," he winked with a broad grin "so I can tell you what was well received and what people came back asking for. And I'm sure my dad would be willing to give you help with setting a price for a first time introduction. That way you can enjoy your summer after you make up some treats and know if people really like them a lot and how much you could make from them. Handy information!"
In the back of his mind while he made this pitch he was also wondering if she might be willing to go out some over the summer, see if they hit it off. How easy it would be for a candy maker and a baker's son to get along really now! "Of course that would mean we'd have to meet up sometime so I could give you the money and the information," he said fishing for a reason. Hearing she was still there wasn't too surprising, but he did feel bad for her. It became fairly depressing those last few years he had noticed as the fact that no one wanted you combined with the legal age of seventeen as the oldest you could stay in the orphanage meant you really needed somewhere else on your own.
"Ah gotcha! The way you talked about baking I could have sworn you were in a home with a kitchen access. How did you manage to get them to let you have stove time in the orphanage?" The food had never been the best there and the thought she had been back there making treats he had never known about seemed slightly unfair. The fact they both understood some things without words made it much easier to be on the same team in a way, might make dating easier too if she was interested. The flicker of eyelashes seemed a good sign to him.
"So tell me about yourself, Sophia, what do you like outside of baking? What would you like to do next year when you are legal?" He meant free from the trace, of course, not the other sort. "I've been wracking my mind on ideas for a career although I've got an in with the bakery business for sure, just not sure if that's all I want though from life."

It didnt take long for Sophia to put two and two together, he was adopted by the bonfire bakery's owner. She would have guessed something else but she just knew that it was the Zephyrs, Viona was always a sweet heart and she saw that both her mother and father ran stores that seemed to be something both enjoyed. Oneday she wanted to own a store but right now she just wanted to make it though school. "The Bonfire Bakery? That place always has the newest best treats in the wizarding world. I never really get to go during the summer though, I always wanted to hang around the Ally for a couple of days to visit the stores." She adored hanging around walker, he was such a nice man.
When he spoke about persuading him and and about the store the light in her eyes just seemed to glow brighter, and a faint red crossed her cheek. "That would be amazing, but only if you agree to it, I can try and pay you or something." When he brought up meeting during the summer she nodded. "That would be fun, I'd love to meet up with you during the summer, it would be so cool to have someone to hang out with that knows the wizarding world." Smiling she was glad to have came across Walker, not just because he wanted to help her with her candy but because she saw him as a true friend, someone she could see spending time with out side of school and business. She also hoped that maybe just maybe her crush on him would grow in to something more.
"I used it at night. no one was guarding it at night and it gave me time to use not muggle items." he then asked about her and she thought for a moment. "Well, I like to read, Mostly books about mysteries and some things about romance, comic books are pretty cool too." She then took a moment to think about his next question, What did she want to do in life after school. "I want to own or work in a candy store as one of the candy creators. I'd also like to find someone to share my family's wealth with."

His smile grew as soon as she spoke the name. "Aye, that's the one!" picking up a tad of his father's accent by accident. "Ah well I spent more time helping my father out with baking then I spent wandering. Viona dragged me a lot of places on breaks though." Munchkin. She was a wonderful one though trying to make him explore more of the world around him. He did not miss the light blush which crossed her cheeks however and that just encouraged him.
"Pay me?" He looked surprised at her, not quite sure where that had come from. He had been thinking of a kiss on the cheek or maybe her going with him somewhere for a date, but money? "I wouldn't take money from you to get your stuff in our window so I could bring you your money later," mostly because that could get crazy confusing he would think! "I was thinking more like..." and it was his turn to sound hesitant and flush a little bit, "more like persuading by uh well, maybe promising to go with me somewhere."
He swallowed. It was a bit more difficult then he had imagined, asking.
"Like a date. Maybe. If you would be interested." Probing it like a sore spot, he couldn't stop talking; probably sounded like a fool! He stopped himself from adding more on it. She spoke about sneaking the oven time and he grinned at her. "Smart girl! I'm sure you had plenty of time at night, but when did you sleep?" And she was a reader? While Walker was more an activity type, he understood that books were good too, just not his perfect cup of tea. The image of her using his back like a pillow as he did homework and she read popped into his mind.
Surely that didn't deserve the warm fuzzy feeling that happened!
He was about to say something about how candy and bread stuffs went together so well when she mentioned family wealth and his mouth shut. Ah damn! He didn't want her thinking he was after her money, but how could she think otherwise when he had been an orphan for so long? And come to think of it, if she was an orphan, how did she have money and NOT get adopted? Suddenly confused and unsure what to say he fell quiet, wondering what he should do next and having no idea...

Sophia smiled brightly and her face turned a red. She hadn't been on a date, nor did she know what to do on one. Nodding the girl looked at walker. "That sounds perfect." The blonde did do more than read, but with the way she did things at the orphanage she read in her down time and played tag or hide and seek with the younger kids.
Though the thought of her on a date with walker kept slipping back in to her mind. The two we're getting along great, and Sophia couldn't have been happier. Though as he brought up when she slept the girl thought to all the times she took naps with the younger kids who needed rocked to sleep or we're too scared to sleep alone. "Naps during the days. They always worked wonders."
Thought it seemed she said something wrong. It was true. She was from a wealthy family and she knew little about them but that was all her choice. She knew her last name and that her mother and father left her all their wealth. It was all safe hidden away where not even she could find it without looking in to what happen in her child hood. A place she was scared of going. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have shared that. It's a long story." The girl looked down, but her blue eyes found their way back to the boys.

Why mentioning a date would be so emotional he wasn't sure; it certainly didn't sound right for him. So he ponied up a bit more and sounded more confident at her combined blush and answer. "Excellent! How about next weekend, our last Hogsmeade?" He had never taken anyone out really, but he had heard enough of how things can go. "s there something special you would like to do there or shall I just pick stuff at random?" He smiled, feeling good because he had managed to get her to agree to a date.
Heck, that made any guy's head swell!
Only partly curious about the sleeping, he nodded anyway. "Did that make you a night owl or were you always like that? Might be one of the reasons I didn't see more of you back then." Hmm, was it too soon to sit next to her in a class? Would that fluster her too much? Maybe. And then she dropped the bomb statement. His reaction, clearly, was seen as one which caused hesitation on both sides and he hated to leave it open like that.
"Sorry! I didn't mean to just shut up like that it just--" Well it kind of astonished him really. "I don't think of orphans like us as having anything period so it just caught me off guard." He held up his hands a sudden bit of sweat of nerves on his forehead. "I mean, I hadn't heard anything! I didn't come here with you because i had! I didn't know anything till you said it and then I didn't want you to think I--"
Making a face he stopped and in a less panicked voice asked "I'm making a hash of this aren't I?"
