Eligos was now close by Morgaine. One would think she was his owner as opposed to Dathan, though once Morgaine left the shop for the night, that would obviously change and he would be following Burke all about. Burke was hardly jealous of this.
"Thank you," he said. "I hope the tea is good. I rarely go to Diagon these days, but I have found some exceptional teas in one of the shops there." He saw from her reaction to the tea that she indeed enjoyed it.
He then listened to Morgaine speak of a deal. Dathan wanted very much to tell her that he was in the Black Army and knew the Dark Lady quite well. However, to do so with Morgaine not a member herself would be a grave mistake, even with the case of Morgaine being perfect for the army. He would have to tell the Dark Lady about her first, gain his evil mistress' approval, and then he was free to reveal all to her... as she would indeed be meeting the Dark Lady herself.
"I agree," he said, shaking her hand. "I will certainly look into it. Who knows, I may very well find something going on in the area. This is Knockturn Alley after, and seems to be a central point for... lost souls like you and I." Burke gave a wicked smirk at that last part. While he still had her hand, he gave it a gentlemanly kiss then returned it to her. "Whatever happens, I hope to see you again very soon and very often."
Burke honestly didn't know what to make of Morgaine. Was he in love with her? He had never been in love with anyone, never cared for romance. Or did he see her as some lost sister, separated from him at birth perhaps. Either way, a show of humanity had developed in Burke's heart, one not seen since he rescued Eligos in the Forbidden Forest when the pup's mother abandoned him.

Morgaine swished the tea around cup, a bad habit she had picked up as a child, then took another sip. Her free hand smoothed Eligos' fur in a gentle massage, ironically in a similar way to how she patted Samsara. She wondered if the two would get along, and a small smile graced her lips as several likely possibilities crossed her mind.
"I have always preferred loose leaf. It seems somehow more... natural. And, as with everything in your shop, the quality is exquisite."
Morgaine chuckled softly when Dathan referred to the 'lost souls' of Knockturn Alley, then was stopped short when he kissed her hand. It was not that she was prudish - far from it, she couldn't even count the number of times she'd danced naked under the moon, in tribute to the ancient witches, or used her youth and her looks to gain a more favourable business deal (fully clothed and through suggestion only, in those instances), but the small gesture of affection touched her in a place that had been dormant for only a year r s shy of a decade. Her heart skipped a beat, but it barely showed. She found she was not opposed to Dathan being so familiar with her, but she filed it away for later analysis. In the middle of a conversation was no time for soul-searching.
"It is coming up to an off season for most alchemical ingredients," she smiled. "I should definitely make more of an effort to visit people worth my time, and you and Eligos are quite possibly the only ones who fit that category." She smiled again, more wickedly. "I wonder how the witches and wizards who consider me their friend would feel to know that they mean less to me than a wolf. People can be so closed-minded," she mused. "When anyone can see that Eligos is worth ten of any human friend."
She smiled warmly at Eligos, then at Dathan.
"When you find yourself with a few hours spare, you should let me know," she said. "Good company is hard to come by."

Eligos enjoyed the affection a great deal. Later he would ask Dathan if the woman could possibly live there with them. Being a canine, he enjoyed the company of the few humans he liked after all, and craved it more when said company was away. Burke could tell Eligos was going to make such an inquiry just by the brief stare they shared when Burke looked over at the wolf. Burke then looked back at Morgaine.
"You are most kind with your compliments," he said. "But let us hope you don't humble me with them too much. Merlin knows I'd lose my edge." This was of course said with an amused smirk.
He was happy to know she could make more time for him. It was time the two could spend together, and more importantly it was time that he could use to bring her to the Dark Lady. He hoped his mistress saw in her what he did.
"I agree," he said. "Most are only worth my time when they wish to rid themselves of their galleons. Most are only wort Eligos' time when they make the mistake of threatening me. You are obviously worth his and my time for more pleasant reasons. And I'll be certain to translate your kind words to Eligos. He will appreciate them a great deal."
Dathan then nodded when she extended an invitation for him as well.
"Any free hour I have would be spared for you, dear Morgaine," he said. "I don't often got to restaurants or even to the pubs these days, but if you have a place you fancy, perhaps we can meet next time in some place besides the shop." Eligos gave his master an irritated growl. "Oh stop now. I would bring her by to visit you."

She smiled wickedly at that.
"I'm sure any edges we blunt can be sharpened up again in no time," she replied. "As long as you promise to do the same for me. I've already had two customers this week tell me to 'get off my high horse and stop being so pompous.' I told them it's all a matter of perspective, and that if the want cheaper prices they can find someone who stocks things a little closer to their tastes in quality."
She checked her watch again quickly at the mention of customers. Her own would be arriving in not too long at her office. She was proud, not for the first time, that she had learnt to Apparate as soon as possible. It had made business so much easier from day one.
"If you're free later tonight, I do actually know somewhere. And they know me, and how to treat me. They will most likely be surprised to see me wit company, but if any of them is less-than-discreet about it, I'm sure the manager will take my side."
((We can make a new thread for that, or just continue here, up to you))

(Going to PM you and Lacey an idea)
Dathan's brow lowered when Morgaine spoke of how customers had talked to her. How dare they disrespect such an brilliant and wonderful woman? He already had ideas of what he could do to any he caught talking down to Morgaine. But for now, Burke would be cool and collective in his response to this, as he usually was.
"You were wise in your response too," he said. "No point in doing business with bickering rift raft. It's beneath us both."
He could tell by her looking at her watch that she needed to go soon, and so he roses and offered his hand to help her rise, though she could of course rise herself. It was again the gentlemanly thing to do. He nodded when she spoke of a place they could meet.
"I believe I can accommodate you, my dear Morgaine," he said. "I am a bit of a night owl and my shop does not open until late afternoon. Meet me back here and we'll walk to this place. And do not fret. I could care little about what others think of my presence in a place, though I have faith in this manager to prevent any sort of trouble."
Burke kissed Morgaine's hand once more, then stepped over to open the door for her. Eligos whimpered a little at her parting and would follow her every step of the way until she left the shop.
"Well, my good lady," he said with a slight bow. "Farewell for now."

Morgaine put her empty tea cup on a small table next to where she sat, then gracefully accepted Dathan's out stretched hand. She truly had missed his intelligent, undemanding company. She felt a strange shiver of anticipation, and felt herself smiling almost without realising it.
"Until tonight then," she replied. She bent and gave Eligos one final pat until later, murmuring 'goodbye' to him even though she could not speak to him properly. She straightened up and leant forward to give Dathan a very Parisian kiss on the cheek, an affectation she had picked up after her gap year at 18. "I look forward to it. Farewell."
She stepped out the door and Apparated back to her office with a pop.
