Maddie did realise how much Oxford was licking her hand, and she pulled out the napkins she had grabbed earlier and wiped her hands off. "You were right about the licking," she said with a laugh as she put the used napkins in the bin. She smiled at Alpin's generosity, and went up and gave him a hug. "Thanks so much for being so generous. You're a very hospitable family, it's really lovely," she said genuinely.
Maddie looked at each of the guinea pigs in turn as Viona described the differences between them. Once she knew what to look for, Maddie could also pick them out from each other. When Viona suggested she help with their breakfast tomorrow morning, Maddie nodded and smiled. "I'd like that. You'll have to show me what to do, but I'd be happy to help." She admired how easily Viona cared for others, be it people or animals. It was really sweet.
The picnic in the park sounded great, and Maddie was really excited for it. "I really can't wait! It'll be so nice to be outside in a park, and spending more time with you and your family. They really are lovely, I can see why you love it here so much." Her comment about it being sad that Muggles didn't know about magic was an interesting one. "I guess so. But I think it also makes sense. Like, there would be a lot of resentment if they knew about us but then realised they couldn't do the same things, you know?"

Alpin returned the hug and smiled.
"You're welcome, lass," he said. "Thank you for coming to visit us."
Viona nodded when Maddie said she would have to show the guest what to do about the pets' breakfast.
"It's very easy," she said. "I'll let you feed some of the guinea pigs and parakeets. Mum mainly takes care of Piccadilly because what he eats is a bit... disgusting." While the family didn't eat meat, the iguana and the dog did, and Viona was glad she never had to feed them unless her mum or dad were out for the day.
Viona was glad Maddie loved her family. She wanted her friend to come visit more in the future.
"They like you too," she said. "When I told them about you, they were so excited to meet you."
Viona then shrugged about the Muggles.
"Well, I think it's the same with how we look at them some times," she said. "They come up with all these strange inventions that work without magic. I don't know if we could ever do that too."
Downstairs, Donalda almost had the veggie lasagna done and looked towards the upstairs. Alpin was setting the table. Usually, he and Viona did this together, but he excused her for the night because of her guest.
"Donalda, Viona, wash up, lovelies!" she said. "Dinner's almost ready!"

Maddie made a face when Viona described the iguana's food as disgusting. But she was still curious. "Really? Like what?" she asked, curious about the answer but readying herself for an answer that she might find gross.
"I guess you're right. But I still feel like a lot more of them would be jealous of magic than how many wizards would be jealous of electricity. I mean, a lot of wizards can still use electricity and muggle inventions, but no muggles can use magic," she pointed out. She had grown up in a family which had quite a lot of disdain for Muggles, and while she hadn't inherited too much of it, she still had some mild views of muggles being a little inferior to witches and wizards. But nothing on the scale of some of the others in her family.
At the call from downstairs, Maddie and Viona each rushed down to the kitchen. It smelt absolutely amazing. "Oh, Mrs Zephyr, it smells beautiful! I can't wait to try it," she said as she washed her hands before the meal. "Is there anything I can do to help set up?"

Viona giggled at Maddie's look, then explained.
"Well, most regular Iguanas don't eat meat, but Piccadilly had magical breeding so he does," she said. "He eats... insects and lots of them. Crickets, ants, flies, you name it. I'm really glad me mum feeds him, and am REALLY REALLY glad me dad feeds Oxford. His food smells horrid if you are standing too close. I've never eaten meat in me life, and that sort of makes me glad I haven't."
Viona agreed with what Maddie said about Muggles, magic, and electricity, though just about everything in her house was magic-based.
"I like checking out Muggle things now and then," she said. "But some of it is a bit too much for me to understand. One time someone showed me something on Muggle tele called a cartoon. It was interesting and a bit funny, but I can't say I would watch them on a regular basis." Viona certainly didn't look down on Muggles. She was just not all that used to being around them for long periods of time.
Downstairs, Donalda shook her head at Maddie.
"All is set, dear, but thank you," she said. "You just sit there by Viona and the food will be right up."
Soon the food was set and Alpin served everyone before seating himself.
"So Miss Maddie," he said. "Tell us a wee bit about yourself, lass."

Maddie listened curiously as Viona explained the iguana's diet. "Wow, yeah, that does sound pretty gross. And Oxford's food as well. I'm glad you don't have to do it," she noted. Maddie wasn't a vegetarian herself, but she could understand sometimes why someone would be. And truth be told, she really enjoyed most vegetarian food, as well.
As Viona started talking about some muggle things that she had looked at, Maddie didn't really follow very much of it. She hadn't had much at all to do with muggle technology before. "A tele... is that like a television? I've heard of that," she replied. "It's all a bit strange to me, I don't really get it." She didn't have that much desire to understand it, either, since she had magic that did most of what she needed anyway. But she supposed she wouldn't be entirely opposed to being shown some technology sometimes.
Maddie took a seat next to Viona and watched as dinner was served. It looked amazing, and the way Maddie's face lit up showed her appreciation. "Well... I think one of the biggest things I love doing is singing and playing the piano," she told them. "I perform at the Three Broomsticks every Friday night. It's a lot of fun, I really love it," she said, smiling.

Viona nodded when Maddie asked about what tele was.
"Yep, a Muggle television," she said. "But a lot of Muggles here call it tele. That's what the friend who showed me the cartoon called it, so I just started calling that. Muggle tele is weird, and sometimes it's not very nice about how it depicts witches and wizards. It either makes us all look mean or comical. I don't think all Muggles think that way about us, but I wish the others wouldn't. Like the Muggles in the park me family and I talk to. If they knew we were a wizard and two witches, I think they'd be surprised at how we're like them in a lot of ways."
Downstairs Alpin beamed when Maddie mentioned her singing and playing at the Three Broomsticks.
"Before the misses and I moved back to Scotland for a time, we lived in London and went to Hogwarts," said Alpin. "We would go on dates at the Three Broomsticks and dance to the music played there. Who knows, Maddie, one night you may play for a couple who goes on to be happily married as we are. Music is another form of magic when you think about it that way."

Maddie found it interesting hearing from Viona about what the muggles showed on television. "Oh, I never really thought about how Muggls might portray us. It's sad that they get it so wrong, though. I guess most of them think it's just made up, so they can do whatever they want with the image of witches and wizards, right?" she suggested.
She loved to hear the story of how Alpin and Donalda had gone on dates at the Three Broomsticks and danced to the music there. "That's so sweet! And thankyou for the encouragement. I hope I can play a part in a some lovely couple's story like the musicians before did to yours," she smiled.

Viona nodded at Maddie's analysis of the situation. Maddie was so smart and had a wonderful way of putting things. She loved having conversations with her.
"I guess it's really difficult to understand someone who doesn't believe in the existence of magic," she said. "I guess it's because you and I are so used to using it. We don't really give it a second thought."
Alpin smiled that Maddie like the story of his and Donalda's dates. He loved talking about his and his wife's dating and courtship. He wished he could go back and do it all over again sometimes. It was just as happy a time of his life as having a wonderful family, job, and home was now.
"Well, even if not, being a musician is a fine profession in general, lass," he said. "Music makes people happy. It takes their minds off their burdens and lets them get lost in the moment. The fact that you are producing it is very admirable."
"Maddie is wonderful," said Viona. "I've heard her play a lot." Viona's eyes then widened and she smiled. "Maddie, would you like to play our piano? You could show mum and dad how good you are!"

Maddie nodded in agreement. "Yeah, that's so right. Like, it's something we just assume, so it's really a totally different way of thinking about things. It must be really hard for muggle-borns when they get their first letter to Hogwarts, having to realise there's a magical world and then accept that they are a part of it now," she said thoughtfully.
She was very appreciative for the support that she was getting from Viona and her family. "Thanks, it's so lovely of you to say that. I'm glad that you think it's a good path to follow, I'm not so sure my parents would agree," she said with a slight laugh. They loved her, of course, just thought that she could be following more in a path that would contribute to the family.
At Viona's suggestion for her to play for them, she laughed and nodded. "I'd love to play for you all. Once dinner is over, though, this lasagne is too delicious to pass up in the meantime," she pointed out, laughing before taking another bite. It really was delicious. She had almost finished though, by now.

Viona nodded. She certainly would never understand a lot of the things Muggle-borns did. She was a Pure-blood, though she didn't act as some Pure-bloods did of course. She was told about Hogwarts for years before she began attending, so she was more than ready to go come the time, excited for all that awaited her there.
At dinner, Alpin gave an understanding nod when Maddie said her parents might not be happy with her choice of careers.
"I can understand that to a point," said Alpin. "Parents often have different ideas for their children's future. Sometimes I hope me Viona here takes over the bakery, but then I realize she's a girl with dreams on her own. It would break me stout heart to know I shattered them."
Donalda smiled at Maddie enjoying her lasagna. She knew her family loved it, but it always made her happy when guests enjoyed it.
"Thank you, Maddie," she said. "I'm very pleased you like it, and I cannot wait to hear you play."
After dinner, the family sat and smiled as if they were getting ready to watch a Broadway show or something. Viona was particularly excited because she knew how well Maddie played and sang.

Maddie was very happy to hear Alpin's words. Sure, it wouldn't change the way her family thought at all, but it was nice to hear that some parents cared more about their children's wishes than what they had planned for them themselves. "Viona is lucky to have you two," she said, smiling at them both and then at Viona.
After dinner had finished, Maddie went over to the piano and sat down at it. She was actually quite nervous, actually more so than she usually was when she performed. This was a bit different, it was personal for some people, rather than up on a stage. It was quite a different feeling about it, but she still hoped she would be able to do a good job. Once they were ready, she started playing and singing one of her favourite songs that she could do a cover of, that she did every time she did a performance. It tended to be the one that people liked best of hers.

Since it was a Muggle song, it made sense that Viona and her parents had never heard it before. However, they sat and hung on to every word, lost in Maddie's beautiful voice and playing. Alpin gave Maddie a smile to show her she was right about her friend's talent. Other than that, the three swayed to the music. When it was done with, they all applauded, and then Viona ran over and hugged Maddie again, kissing her on the cheek. "That was so ace!" she said. "You're the prettiest and most talented singer and player I know!" Alpin then stepped over and smiled at the two. "That was a beautiful performance indeed, Ms. Maddie," he said. "You'll have to play again for us before you leave." He then looked at Donalda for a moment, smiled, and turned back to Maddie. "But for now, since we're all in the spirit, I would like to treat you to an old Muggle song I heard a long time ago and learned how to play." (Hope it's okay if I bump up the scene a tad) Once Alpin was the piano, he began to play an upbeat song written and performed decades before in the United States. Viona had heard him play it before and loved to do her goofy dance to it, inviting Maddie to dance along with her. THE SONG @maddie

Maddie gratefully accepted Viona's hug, glad that she and her parents had enjoyed her singing. "Thankyou, that's so lovely of you to say," she replied to Viona thankfully. When Alpin also complimented her and said she should play again before she left, she nodded with a smile. "I'd be happy to. But yes, you should definitely play!" she agreed when Alpin suggested he play something as well.
As he started to play, Maddie laughed a little at the song choice. It was quite a funny song, and definitely had some energy to it. As he finished, she clapped happily. "That was really good! You guys don't need me to play at all, you already have a great performer here yourselves," she complimented with a smile. "When did you learn to play?" she asked him curiously.

After the song, Alpin smiled and bowed as everyone applauded for him. He then nodded at Maddie's compliment.
"Well thank you, Miss Maddie," he said. "And I wouldn't say I'm all that good. I just know a few songs here and there. You, on the other hand, seemed to not just be good at playing. It seems like it just comes natural to you. I might be able to make someone dance, but you captivate a room, and that's a rare talent, lass."
"You were still really good, dad," said Viona. "I can't play, but I make up for it with me superior dancing skills." She then showed off a little bit more of her goofy dance before cracking up.
Just before bed, Donalda made a spiced pumpkin cake and served it to everyone with some milk. She didn't want any of them drinking tea that late of course. There was quiet for a moment, mostly because Viona was eating away. Alpin then leaned forward and smiled.
"Miss Maddie, would you like to hear about the time I met Nessie?" he said. He was of course referring to the Loch Ness Monster. While Muggles believed the monster was merely a legend to speak of in tabloids, Wizards and Witches knew different.

Maddie blushed at Alpin's compliment - it was very heartfelt and she appreciated his genuineness. He was also very modest, as well - he was better than he seemed to think he was. When Viona echoed this thought, Maddie nodded quickly. "Yeah, you are. But Viona's dancing skills make all of us pale in comparison," she joked, laughing.
As they ate their spiced pumpkin cake (which, unsurprisingly, was delicious) Maddie nodded enthusiastically at Alpin's question. "Of course! I love hearing stories like that," she replied genuinely.
