Despite all she'd been through, Alice was lucky enough to find a job she actually loved. Sitting there stroking one of the new owls, Alice tilted her head to the side and watched its eyes drowsily flitter between open and close. It was resisting sleep, yet Alice knew it would finally succumb to it. She smiled. It was funny how babies of any kind reacted to sleep; they regarded it distastefully. They felt like they were missing all the action as soon as their world fell dark, but in fact, Alice wished she could do the same. As much as she loved her job, she was quite tired. But besides being tired, she was also hungry. She would certainly have to tend to her hunger after she got off work, before heading home to fall into her lonely bed. Her eyes stung at the thought of going back to her home alone, but she fought back the tears that threatened to ruin her day. "Not today," she sighed.
The familiar ring of the bell that hung from the door caught her attention. Alice peered up from the baby owl, who'd fallen victim to her soothing pet, and her eyes fell upon the customer. She smiled, as she always did, and wondered who would be searching for a pet at that hour. It was near closing time, which admittedly made Alice a tad worried she wouldn't get off when she was supposed to, but she was far more curious as to what the customer needed. Food for his or her pet, maybe, came to mind, and then her own tummy growled at the thought. She snapped out of it and looked back to the customer, still smiling. "How can I help you?" she asked.

Cyan desperately searched the street, his large paws padding against the concrete. His large snout lifted into the air as he searched for the scent of the caretaker. He needed to find her before she closed the store because he heard, she was the only one with the owl feed Zeus could eat. Other owl feed would cause him to grow ill and weak which wasn't good since he was such a small owl. Cyan could feel the little owl buried within the large dogs fur as he trotted down the street, his large eye glancing into the shadows. It was really late and Cyan has lost hope that the woman was awake, she pronably had gone home and locked up shop. Looking up, the large dog could see that the lights were on which meant atleast someome was there. Nudging the door open with his nose, Cyan made his way into the shop. As he made his way deeper into the room, he shift to his normal form and laughed when he saw Zeus perched on his shoulder. Looking around he saw a beautiful woman, sittimg next to a baby owl. Sadness shadowed her face and Cyan could see tears threatening to spill. Shocked, Cyan didn't notice the woman had spoken. He was too worried why such a lovely girl could be so stricken with sadness. "I'm sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you had any small owl food. You see here, Zeus is really picky and too lazy to go catch his own meal..."
The little owl ruffled his feathers as if annoyed that Cyan would say such a thing. With a quick flap of his wings, Zeus flew up and perched upon Cyan's head.
"I swear, I think he thinks he owns me" Cyan smiled, hoping maybe the woman would smile back at his owls goofiness.

Alice raised her eyebrows slightly as she listened to the attractive man's response. As he said the owl's name, her eyes fleeted toward it and immediately she grinned. "Aw, he is so cute!" she cheered, putting a hand on either side of her face. Grinning, she gave the sleeping baby owl a soft pat and came out from behind the counter. She grinned up at Zeus who sat perched on his owner's head, giggling. She looked back at the man before her and nodded. "Oh yea, my owl Daryl is the same way," she replied, grinning. Suddenly she realized that he had actually asked for something. She chuckled at herself. "Ah sorry." she said before turning away from the man. She felt her cheeks warm as she walked away from him, motioning him to follow her. She led him to a turnstile rack stocked with various bags, all saying some slogan before the word 'owl' on them. Alice looked about the turnstile, turning it gently with one finger and then finally she said, "Aha!"
She picked up the bag and examined it closer, then nodded to herself and turned toward him. "This should do the trick. If not, you should definitely come back tomorrow...because if he won't take this stuff, then you might actually try catnip. It sounds weird, I know, but for some reason some owls just think they're better than the rest and need to be different," she explained. Alice didn't know much about fantastical creatures like dragons and such, but she knew owls pretty well given that she dealt with them daily. She looked down at the bag she held and chuckled. "Might help if I actually gave it to you, huh?" Alice chimed, extending the food bag out to him.

Cyan grinned at the woman as joy replaced the sadness within her face. She was beautiful when she smiled. Hell, she was beautiful all around. Her eyes are what got to him, they were full of light and beauty. Following the woman back, Cyan eyed the bags of food. If he got any more animals then he would for sure come here, she seem to have everything. Cyan smiled as she held the bag of food, rambling on about it. She seem to know her stuff, kinda how Cyan knew how to concoct drinks. Cyan took the bag from her extended hand and watched as Zeus hopped from his head to the it. Zeus began an exotic desplay of squawks and feather ruffling as he hopped around the bag of food. "I think he'll like it Cyan laughed, "So what do I owe you, My dear?" Smiling, Cyan diverted his eyes from his owl up to the woman.

Alice grinned as the man didn't seem too peeved at her rambling. She did that from time to time, but mainly about random things such as food, careers - things of that nature. It was rare that she rambled on about herself, though. There were things she liked to keep undisclosed, of course, and only revealed them to people she really trusted. Sadly there weren't that many people left in her life, but she appreciated the few that stuck around. "Oh don't worry about it - it's on the house," she noted with a smile. Besides, the food was intended for small owls, so it actually didn't cost that much, and she'd just add it to her growing tab. She looked down and said quietly, "If you wanted to pay me in....ya know, company though, that might be okay." She felt the warmth rush to her cheeks as she looked up and met his gaze once more. Well, there it was. If he didn't want to hangout or anything she was fine with that, but this was the first guy she actually found herself attracted to in the last three years. She had to go for it.

"Hmmm... I don't know thats pretty costly" Cyan joked as he winked at her, "I dont see why not, I'm not that busy. Plus Zeus seems to like you"
The little owl had stopped at the edge of the bag of feed and was staring, wide eyed at the woman. His little head was turned sideways as if he was actually listening to her talk. He was more of a ladies man than Cyan. "May I ask your name?" he said, redirecting his eyes back to the lovely lady.
Man she was beautiful. Cyan couldn't help but just stare in awe at the woman as she grinned and blushed. Every facial expression, she could make look beautiful. Smiling, Cyan ran his fingers through his own brown hair

His teasing only made her grin that much more. "Great!" Alice cheered, turning her head to Zeus as the man mentioned him. "Well I like him too," she cooed at the little owl, her grin widening. Alice looked back to the man and chuckled. "Oh right - I forgot! I'm Alice," she said with a nod. "And you?" Alice mused, raising an eyebrow. "Oh, let me just lock up and we can go um...." she started as she turned from him, grabbing the keys off the hook on the wall. Alice turned back and placed a finger on her chin, thinking. "Well, are you hungry? I mean, if not that's okay, but I'm pretty starving myself, as unlady-like as that sounds."

"I'm Cyan...and yeah I'm starved" he said rubbing his stomach, "ehh who cares about being ladylike. How do muggles say it...yolo? I don't know but basically life is too short to care if youre lady like"
Smiling, he followed her as she lead him back to the entrance of the building. Zeus had taken the position of sitting on Cyan's head, his talons digging at the mans scalp. The things Cyan puts up with for that damn owl. "Where do you feel like eating at? Well, I mean there isn't a lot of choices but still." Cyan grinned at Alice again. He could always take her back to Hogs Head Inn, but that place was full of creeps . Cyan didn't know why he stayed working at that place. Maybe because it was good easy money or maybe because people really didn't bug or notice him. Sighing, Cyan pushed the thoughts out of his head and focused on Alice.

"Nice name!" she said with a grin. Alice laughed at his comment. "Yolo? Isn't that the little round thing on a string?" she asked confused. Alice definitely was not in tune with Muggle stuff; in fact, she strayed from it. Her parents' car accident was the cause of that, but that was a whole other issue. As they headed back toward the entrance of the shop, she grabbed her coat and walked out the door, kicking it open and waiting for him to leave so she could shut and lock it. "Hm, how about Diagon Deep Dish? They have some pretty great pizza," she chimed, her mouth salivating from the invisible scent of sausage and pepperoni. And cheese, of course.

"Haha I have no clue... I swear I heard a muggle say thay. But I was in dog form and sometimes things get lost within the fur" he laughed. Walking out of the shop, Cyan looked at the sky. It was cloudy and crappy. Cyan hated to not see the stars. They were the only thing that didn't abandon him.. "I don't care, where ever you want to go my dear" This woman was the only person he felt comfortable with. She made him feel like he actually was more than a bartender. She made him feel as if he had a chance with, even if he honestly didnt...Sighing, he made his way through the streets nect to Alice.

Alice laughed alongside him. "Well, I'll have to make sure to ask the next Muggle I come across what it is," she chimed, watching him walk out of the shop. Alice shut the door and quickly locked it, then turned back toward Cyan. As they made their way down Diagon Alley, she smiled. "You're easy," Alice said with a chuckle. Thankfully the pizza place was just a few shops down from Magical Menagerie, so they didn't have far to walk. She looked up at the sky and noted the clouds, unable to see the stars above. She frowned. She loved looking up at the stars, and now that they weren't in view, it made the night a little less magical. She looked back to Cyan and smiled. "We're here!" she said and made a quick left, finding herself under the covering above the door of the pizza restaurant. She opened the door and held it out for him to catch before walking ahead.

Cyan followed Alice to the pizza place. He had passed this little building many times but never seem to have time to stop. The only place he really ate at was at the Hogs Head Inn, since he spent most of his time there. Cyan smiled as he walked into the warm building. It was quite nice inside. Little booths sat by the windows, as the lights flickered. The aroma of pizza filed every inch of this place. Sitting down at a booth, Cyan looked at Alice. "So, Alice what made you stay around this place? If you don't mind me asking. But you seem like a smart girl with a lot of potential, you could probably work at the ministry of magic if you really wanted."

Alice grinned as the aroma of pizza hit her. She loved coming here, especially after long days at the shop. Her brown hair bounced on her shoulders as she walked over to a booth and slid into the chair across from Cyan. She looked up at him and listened, then bit her lower lip. There really wasn't any alternative to telling him the truth now. She wasn't going to start their friendship off with lies. She sighed and shrugged. "You know a lot of people say that," Alice chuckled. "No but uh....well, when I graduated Hogwarts I immediately married my sweetheart. He was an Auror so he made good money and I never worked...but then three years ago he was killed on the job, and so I had to find someplace," she said, looking at the table. "I never thought I'd be in that position. I guess I knew that his job was dangerous, but I wasn't expecting that, you know?" Alice said, looking back up at Cyan. She smiled softly. "But I'm doing fine."
She didn't know if she was trying to convince him or herself.

Cyan felt like a jerk for asking. Why did he even open his mouth, but as she spoke curiosity got the best of him. "Im sorry for you...I know what it feels like to lose someone."
Cyan wanted to know the Aurors name for he could be the one who caught his own brother. If Alices lover was the same person who sent his own brother to Askaban then he wouldn't know what to do. He probably would grow to hate Alices's dead lover.
"So you went to Hogwarts too? What house?" he said smiling.
He was a Slitherin and it always confused him. He should have been hufflepuff or something. Cyan was too happy go lucky for his house and everybody knew it...

Alice nodded. Everyone said that, but they didn't get it. "It's okay. It was a rough time at first, but it's got better," Alice said, then sighed. Henry would have said something smart probably, which would have prompted a smile from her face. It saddened her that there was so much they had to look forward to together and it was taken from them so abruptly. That was three years ago, though. As she looked into Cyan's smiling face, she felt her heart stir from its long slumber. The feelings Henry made her feel were right there waiting for her. She just didn't know if she was ready to accept them. "Yea, I was in Hufflepuff - loved it there," she said with a smie. "What about you?" she asked, then looked up at the waiter who tended their table. "I'll have a glass of wine and um-" she started, then looked to Cyan. "Do you want to split a pizza or just get slices? I'm fine with either," she commented, smiling.
