Fredrick ran through the endless hallways pretty sure that something was wrong, it seemed like he was in a maze. He turned the first the corner and came to a dead end he took out his wand and muttered, pacing back and forth he scratched his head with his wand. what am I going to do he? he twirled his and bit his lip think sun-woo, think he tapped the wall and mutter ‘Dissendium “ a door way appeared with a painting. It seemed like his luck was turning around. The portrait stared at him with big expecting eyes
“Well?”
Frederick looked at the painting with big confused eyes and in turn it stared at him as if he was stupid. He had to get the painting to open somehow, and he felt as if he had fallen down the rabbit hole.
“For crying out loud, you should know how to get passed the first door, it’s the easiest one”
He still had no idea what she was talking about and when she finally got upset and shouted identify yourself he nodded sheepishly. Why didn’t he think about that, most people would give their name when trying to gain access to a strange place.
“My names Frederick Sun-woo Helsign, Although prefer Ric or Derick.”
The door swung open and just like that he was running again, he felt as if he was in a mouse in maze, hopefully in the middle there would be an exit and not a piece of cheese…although he was a bit hungry. He turned down the only corner only to come to another dead end. Maybe this was a test of his magic and not his navigation skills, goodness knows that his father is always trying to make him a “man” whatever that meant. Ric hated summers and holidays, he had to listen his father talk about his business and how successful his older brother Janing was or how adorable his sister Kamilah was. He was just the middle child who didn’t have his niche in the world or family. Well unless he took over the family business which he wasn’t he was too busy making up stories and talking to himself. He repeated the motions as he had done with door before and just like the previous one a door appeared.
“What, haunts your dreams?”
My dreams he thought as he paced, was the stuffy old painting asking him what his fear was. Everyone should know that, his biggest fear is losing the people he cared about. Wait no his fear was losing the person he cared for more than anything. Shaking his head he decided not to focus on that. What was his biggest fear…no what haunted his dreams.
“Being the weakest link.”
The man in the portrait nodded and let him past, that was easier than he thought it would be but harder than the last question. He feared the questions would get more personal and well, he was supposed to meet Henry in the courtyard to play soccer. He of course hoped that Natalie would tag alone and immediately felt guilty, shouldn’t be crushing on his best friend’s sisters….his little sister. Ric was running again and he couldn’t stop, his feet had a mind of their own as he went down the twist and turns. They seemed to be leading him in the right direction…the Direction of the doors. Reaching the next one he tapped his wand on the wall and mutter the incantation.
“What do you wish to be?”
Frederick smiled…an easy question of course he wanted to be a writer, of fiction…something his dad would never agree to it. He wouldn’t be able to make a living off of that, he could fly and he could retain information but that was it.
‘I wish to be a Writer” the door swung open and he sighed, he had feared that he hadn’t known what path he wanted to go down in life. Perhaps this was the way teachers at Hogwarts helped children find their career, stranger things had happened at least that’s what his mom always said. Both his mother and father were from Korea, although his mother lived in Scotland since she was thirteen, his father had only lived there since he was twenty. As he once again came to the another dead end it seemed like the doors were coming closer together, he barely had time to answer the question. He tapped his wand on the door repeating the procedure once again.
“Are you special?”
What kind of question was that? Was he special….rolling his eyes he looked at the portrait as the person inside’s hair changed colors. Was he special…or did it mean does he have any special gifts? Well he was learning Legillimenacy and Occumlancy, did that count? Not a lot of people could do that but it wasn’t like he could talk to animals like his friend Henry.
“I’m learning Legillimenacy and Occumlancy”
The door swung open and lead to a room with a single desk and he was disappointed. He had made it to then end of the maze only to find it was a dead end. He looked around and saw a single painting looking from him to the desk and he walked over to sit down.
“Final question, Would you be able to give up the girl you love if she loved another?”
Frederick looked at the painting and then blinked, he thought about the girl who broke his heart and the ones he was to scared to commit to and then he thought about Sera and then Natalie. He wouldn't be able to give her up, but he wanted to see her happy.
“Yes I could”
All of a sudden he heard a loud alarm go off and the painting shake it’s head. Could the painting tell her was lying? The scene began to changes and the desk shook.
*scene fades out*
Frederick woke up and looked around the professor looked at him with narrowed eyes and he knew had detention. He looked around and spotted his friend “hey Henry wait up…you wont believe the dream I had.”
