Jarrod Baddock wasn’t much for balls or any of that kind of thing, but when it turned out that Hogwarts was having one to celebrate the Hogwarts Tournament, he knew it was the perfect opportunity to ask Arya to be his date. He wasn’t sure what exactly they were, all he knew was that Arya understood him the way no one else did. They had a connection that Jarrod refused to ignore. It wasn’t like him to put his heart on the line this way; after all, Jarrod had plenty of girls that wanted a piece of him without strings attached. Arya, however, had his heartstrings in her hand and could do whatever she wanted with him. He wanted all of her, and how he could accomplish that he wasn’t sure because he was far from worthy. In the end, though, Jarrod knew that Arya was someone he couldn’t live without.
Dressed spiffy in a greyish-green suit and grey undershirt, Jarrod thought nothing of the pure white sneakers he slipped onto his feet. If Arya thought he’d wear fancy black shiny shoes meant for weddings or other occasions, she’d have to think again. Maybe if she asked him personally to wear them then Jarrod wouldn’t protest, but she hadn’t given him any inclination that she desired that of him – which was a good thing.
Jarrod was ready very early and, instead of waiting for Arya in the common room, set out to the ball alone to reserve a table for them. The worst part about balls was not being able to get a seat anywhere; standing up for several hours was something Jarrod didn’t have in mind. On his way out, he grabbed his bouquet of white roses for Arya and continued out into the dungeons. He followed the steps out and turned toward the lawns where the ball would be held. He smirked at the canopy of lights that welcomed the students – which there were few at that point – then walked over to a free table. He held the flowers out in front of him and leaned back against the table standing, waiting for the beautiful Arya Goyle to find him.

This was it. It was the night of the ball; The Eve of Lights. Arya had been to many formal get togethers in her lifetime, as well as a few actual parties here an there. Plus, there had been a few dances held by the school in her past seven years at Hogwarts. However, tonight was special. Tonight, she had a date and one that she was finding herself liking more and more each time her eyes fell on him. The best, and most surprising part was, she never expected it to be him. Jarrod Baddock. Not only was he a muggleborn which wasn't a problem in her eyes, it was other people that saw it as a bad idea because she was a pureblood, but the boy had been known as a troublemaker in the past. He was someone Arya had avoided for years, six to be exact, and then he caught her off guard one day at The Three Broomsticks. What a lovely surprise he had become though. He was different from other guys who had pursued her. He was as real as they came and he was so genuine. He wasn't sore on the eyes either, but that wasn't the point.
After looking in the mirror of her dormitory to make sure she was well put together, Arya gave a small smile before heading down the stairs, into the common room, and then out to make her way to the grounds were the ball was being held. Her heart was slightly faster than normal and her palms a bit sweaty. She was nervous and she didn't know why. It was Jarrod. Just Jarrod. But at the same time, it was him and he made her happy. He had become someone special in her life and she didn't know what she would do if he suddenly wasn't apart of it anymore. Of course, he had no clue of her feelings for him. They were so new after all. Maybe tonight it would all come out. Maybe tonight she would tell him. But first she needed to calm her nerves before she made a fool of herself.
Stopping outside of the tent, Arya took a deep breath before walking in, her light brown eyes scanning the dance for her date. But she didn't forget to admire the scenery. It was all so beautiful; nothing less than expected from Hogwarts. They always seemed to go all out for these sorts of things. When her eyes landed on him, her heart skipped a beat as the corners of her mouth turned up into a soft smile. Crossing the distance between them, she soon found herself standing in front of her date, the smile never ceasing. She was excited, and happy, and nervous all at the same time. But most of all, she was content just being near him. "You clean up nice. I'm surprised." She teased lightly, tucking a bit of hair behind her ear. "But you look very handsome Jarrod."

Jarrod locked eyes with Arya as she headed in his direction, grinning like a fool. She was stunning, as always, but tonight moreso than usual. As she spoke, Jarrod couldn't help but shake his head and look down at his shoes. Him? Handsome? Nah. He looked back up at her and grinned. "Well thank you," he said quite matter-of-factly before releasing a chuckle. He sighed and took her hand, kissing the back of it softly with his lips before grinning over her flesh and saying, "But you look like a dream." Maybe it was a tad gushy, but he couldn't help it. Jarrod released her hand and held out the flowers he got for her - a simple white bouquet of roses.
"I know I didn't have to, but they're yours regardless," Jarrod said, knowing she might be a little cautious of taking them. He knew that Arya was keeping him at a distance, which was fine, but he was still going to prove to her that she could trust him and stay in his life. That's what he wanted. For whatever reason - fate, destiny, love - Jarrod felt compelled to reach out to Arya that day in The Three Broomsticks. He felt like he needed her to stay with him, even if just as a friend, though he couldn't deny the feelings that made his heart beat quickly when she was around.
He cleared his throat and stood up on the table, reaching to touch the back of his neck. "So, uh, I don't usually go to stuff like this so...what do you wanna do first?" Jarrod really had no preference of what they did so long as they did it together. He wanted to spend time with her, was all, so if she wanted to dance the night away he'd willingly be her partner. Anything she wanted he was willing to give her, just to prove how much he really meant that he needed her.
