Katharina had spent hours trying to find the perfect dress and she had. She had contemplated on how to do her hair. She had wanted an elaborate style but knowing how Edmund was with her hair...it would be messed up halfway through the night by him pulling on a braid or outright sticking his hand into her hairstyle. Hairspray didn't seem to deter him from doing so either, he always found some way to run his fingers through her long, black locks. Katharina had a brief mental image of spraying him with a water bottle like some people did an untrained cat if he tried touching her hair. In the end, she had chosen a pretty, stylish but Edmund-friendly hairstyle. He could stick his hands into her hair all he liked and it wouldn't be effected.
As they enjoyed their time at the ball, Katharina spotted boats on the water that had lights along their edges and seemed to be magically moving along. It looked entirely romantic and Katharina wanted to go with Edmund on one. Pulling on his sleeve, Katharina looked up at him with a look that he should know by now meant that she wanted something that she wasn't sure he would like. "Ed, I want to go on a boat with you, don't you think it would be romantic?" They had yet to say those three certain words despite having done other things together and Katharina wondered if this wasn't a sign that now was the right time for her to reveal how deep her feelings went. Those three words were said too much and thrown carelessly by others. Katharina had kept them in until she felt the moment would be right, which she hoped would be this night.

Edmund had doubts about going to the ball. Ball meant crowds, and he wasn’t a social person by nature, but he supposed this once he could manage. After all they were a rare enough event that he won’t miss once it was done with, and it was a chance to spend some time with Katharina outside of classes breaks. Deciding he was good at masking things by now, such as any thought upon others’ opinions he found difficult to agree with, Edmund glanced toward the boats, accompanying his girlfriend toward them.
“Others seem like they’re enjoying it,” he commented curiously, throwing Katharina a quick, appreciative smile. He’d much rather be enjoying the girl’s company, but he supposed he was doing so anyway, boats or no. “Come on, there’s one coming up.” And how they were moving was entirely other question. Filing away to find out later and heading toward the approaching boat, Edmund glanced toward Katharina again, this time appreciating her looks and wondering what she was thinking about. For all he’d been around her what felt like his entire life, there were some things that he still didn’t get, and wasn’t thinking he would for quite some time to come.

It was obvious to Katharina that he didn't seem to agree with her opinion or seem too inclined to get into one of the enchanted boats. She had only known him her entire life, he couldn't conceal things from her as well as he did everybody else though he was usually quite good at it. Now wasn't one of those times and Katharinas smile faltered for a moment before fading entirely as her mood for the romantic vanished along with it. Still, Katharina couldn't help blushing under Edmunds appreciative smile before smiling happily up at him once more as he agreed to join her in one of the light lined boats. "I'm glad you're willing to do things you find stupid with me," she commented as she slipped her heels off for easier entry onto the boat. Slipping into the water was not on her agenda for the evening.
Settled comfortably, Katharina waited for Edmund to join her as she lightly trailed her fingers along the lights on the boats edge. "Well, I find it romantic," she muttered to herself as the light played off of her skin in an alluring manner that was only enhanced by the veela blood in her veins. "Aren't you glad to be alone with me on a boat and away from the crowds?" She teased, hoping she covered up her ruined mood well enough. After all, she was still happy to be here with him when just months ago, she had never thought she would be anything more to him than just a dubious best friend.

Amused all over again about Katharina’s wearing heels and then taking them off when not needed, Edmund quirked up an eyebrow as she took them off and snuck in a kiss. “Extremely so since you're here, and this is one of the places here that’re this peaceful,” he commented, grinning as he settled next to his girlfriend. That the boat was magic, and was going to move as soon as they were settled, he was already aware of, and it didn’t stop him from wanting to check the bottom for engine and motor. Thankfully, Katharina’s presence was enough to keep his attention on her and not the boat’s exterior, so he focused on the girl he was with.
“Would you like to dance after?” He asked with a grin, absently wondering how long these boats stayed on the lake. “I would suggest dancing in the boat, but I doubt they’re designed for it.” He assumed neither of them had the wish of being wet, and that was what they’d be asking for should they decide to try it.

Smiling as Edmund snuck a kiss on her, Katharina smiled at his comment. As soon as she had nestled into Edmunds side, the boat floated off and a nice, leisurely pace. Katharina was not fussed about how the boat was moving. They lived in a world of magic, not everything could just be explained away in a logical manner. "That would be wonderful," she smiled as he asked if she would like to dance after their boat ride. "No, they're more designed for kissing," she giggled before kissing him deeply then pulling back into her previous position. "Truth be told, I wanted to tell you something. I wanted to some time now but I'm still afraid you'll grow tired and bored with me." Katharina shifted her gaze to one of the lights on his side of the boat as she waited for him to respond to her words. She was terrified and kept looking everywhere but directly at him.

Edmund slightly tipped his head to the side, both amused and mildly confused with his girlfriend. There was little chance of his being ever tired with her, what with all the things she managed to pull, both in school and outside of it, and he rather enjoyed watching her antics.
“There's a very small chance of me ever getting bored with you,” he told her firmly, snorting in amusement at her idea of what these boats were made of and sneaking in another kiss. Maybe they were, but he highly doubted it. “What is it?” Her agreement to dance later was taken into consideration and he suspected it was what they’d end up doing. If, that is, neither of them changed their mind about it later.

"But there's still a chance you will, I'm not that interesting past my looks," she stated stubbornly, truly believing her own words. Returning his kiss as he kissed her again, Katharina took in a breath, suddenly more nervous than she had ever been in her life. It was now or never, she supposed. She might be a Gryffindor but something like this took every ounce of bravery she had.
Fiddling with his jacket pocket, Katharina stared down at her hands for a moment before licking her lips as they went dry. Finding the courage to look up into his hazel eyes, Katharina lost her voice for another, long moment. "Well, you see...," she began before gulping and feeling mildly frustrated with herself. "The thing is ... I love you." There, she had said it. "I've loved you for such a long time, since even before our brief estrangement these past years. But you didn't love me and kept on hurting me so I didn't dare say a word before now." There, it was all out on the open and she was fully expecting him to leave. Luckily for him, the boat seemed to be nearing the shore once more so he could do so, if he was going to.
