Evi had gotten behind on homework so she was sitting in the common room trying to catch up. She wasn't stupid by any means, just had gotten lazy and had not felt much like doing any of it. So she sat at a table in the common room, books, scrolls and quill and ink in front of her but she was tapping the quill on the table, still not wanting to get right into the homework.
It was already pretty late and there were only a few others in the common room now, so when someone walked in it caught her attention and she immediately looked up to see who had entered. Hoping it would be a friend of hers that she could kill time with and procrastinate on the homework.

What a rubbish holiday. Why would he want to spend time with his stupid mother and her stupid family? Merlin he was glad he was turning seventeen soon because then he wouldn't have to deal with spending holidays with the Holden's, such sweet freedom he could almost taste. Of course it was easy enough to ignore most the Holden's, except the annoying girl, same house, same classes, what torment the sorting hat had dealt him. He could get along with just about anyone but the Holden's were bloody impossible. First they stole his mother, next they had to make his life hell. They were just horrible people, how one of them ended up in his house was a mystery. After the stress of the Holiday, Shay had found himself glad to be back in school. He didn't have to deal with Emmalin or her hard nose husband Micheal, and as much as Shay cared for Myron sometimes it was tiresome being around him. He just had to be born to a rockstar, didn't he? To clear his mind Shay had gone for a run in the forest, not as himself of course he didn't have a death wish, but as a fox. He'd kept the fact he became an animagus from his family, while he had done it to set himself apart from others he also wanted it as an escape, a way to get away from the drama that was constantly swarming his life. Didn't everyone get it? He hated drama, he always had. That was why he swore to never be like Myron and to never be like Emmalin. To never be like his step-siblings. When his little fox feet could take the cold no more Shay hurried back to the school, changing back quickly when he made it into the castle. His wet bare feet padded along the stone corridors as he headed down to Hufflepuff house. He could almost hear the warm fire calling to him. Yes, to sit beside it with his feet warming up and strum a sweet little song to one of the pretty girls who always blushed when he was around. But that wasn't going to be tonight was it? As Shay entered the room he was off in his mind picturing what he had hoped would unfold, but instead of one of those pretty girls that blushed around him being seated in the common room there was only Evi. When Shay saw her he couldn't help but make a face of disappointment. Well you couldn't pay him enough to sing to his step-sister, for so many reasons. But his feet were still screaming for the warmth of the fire. Making sure to choose the seat that was as far away from Evi as possible Shay flung himself in it and got comfortable stretching his legs out to the fire and wiggling his wet toes. It burns at first, the warmth against his very cold feet but soon they would feel thawed and then he could get away from Evi. He avoided looking at her and kept his face stoned. How did such a mean girl end up in Hufflepuff? words: 528 tag: EVELYN ANABELLE HOLDENocc: sorry

Evi's eyes widened when the person who joined her in the common room came into view. She recognized him right away and was incredibly annoyed to see Shay standing in the doorway. She sighed. "Oh...it's you." she said looking back down at her homework. Now she would much rather do the homework than look at her step-brother.
"You're out past curfew..." she noted. "As a prefect it's my responsibility to punish anyone out past curfew." she said looking up to him, and setting her quill down and moving her hands together on the table. "Luckily for you no one else was here to see you coming in late so I don't have to punish you and embaress the family." she said
"So maybe next time try and get back before the curfew so we don't have to deal with all of this in case other people might be here." she said raising an eyebrow at him before picking her quill back up and continuing to write.

Shay had become rather talented on learning how to completely ignore his step-siblings. Years of constant torment had helped him to build a shell around himself when it came to them. The Holden's were all greedy and self centered. It wasn't enough that his mother had choose them over himself and his brother, they had to take every stab they could at him. Some people often wondered how a boy so friendly as Shay could turn so cold. He sat there, her words sounding like white noise as he thought about how arrogant and full of shite Evi was. But one word struck him and he looked over to her with narrow eyes. "We're not family." He said cooly his gaze still set on the fire, inside he was boiling. Maybe they shared a name because of Emmalin, but a family was not a name - even Shay knew that. He didn't even want to look at her, not when she was being like this. Someone needed to knock her off her high horse she had become insufferable since she had been named a perfect - as if anyone cared. She was a joke. He wondered how Emma could share a dorm with his holier than thou step-sister, then again it must have helped that she couldn't hear all the terrible things the girl must have said behind his back - how much easier she must have been to ignore. A part of him was wishing that Emma was there, she had a way of making his bad moods and troubles vanish. But she wasn't it was just him and Evie. He could feel the headache brewing already. "Maybe next time you can just shove off and keep out of matters that don't involve you, yeah?" Shay's tone was snappy, Evi really knew how to ruin a good mood in no time flat. He just had to make it till he was seventeen, then he would be an adult and he could rid himself of the Holden's forever. No more of this Robert Wagtail-Holden as his mother liked to call him, he could be Shay Wagtail and he could be free. Free of their harsh and uncalled for words, free of their torment, free of them, free to be who he was with out their constant judgement. He didn't expect any of the Holden kids to understand, they never had and never would. words: 400 tag: EVELYN ANABELLE HOLDENocc:

When Shay said that they were not family Evi looked up at him. "I don't like it any more than you." she said narrowing her eyes at him. "But unfortunately, we share the same last name and everyone believes us to be related so according to everyone else we are." she said letting out a frustrated sigh.
She rolled her eyes when he told her maybe next time she should shove off and keep out of matters that don't involve her. "I'm the prefect, so when you're coming in after curfew it does involve me." she said crossing her arms.
"And I'm your older sister after all." she said rolling her eyes at that. "You can't just run around doing whatever you want and expect not to get into trouble with it." she said returning to her paper.
