i want you to stay Ellie was pretty excited to go to the ball, actually! Despite having an official date, she still was going to be with someone, if only for part of the night. She had entered her name into the mystery date pairing to be matched up with someone. She figured she didn't want to go alone - not on Valentine's Day! It had to be fun, exciting, and maybe a bit romantic if the guy was up for that. Still, Ellie just was looking for a good time nothing serious. She wasn't resistant to seriousness if it was led there, of course, but she wasn't going in with expectations to meet the love of her life, either. Ellie giddily stepped into her outfit, which was a sparkly red bustier top and pink skirt, with white heels and red nail polish. Ellie was a bit of an outgoing person and her outfits usually represented that. She hoped it wasn't enough to push away her date, though.
She grinned and squeezed a few of her girlfriends in the dorm who were also getting ready, then headed down to the ball with them. She had told them all about getting paired with someone for a date and while some expressed concern, they were all mainly excited for Ellie. Who knows - she might indeed find that lucky guy! Anything was possible. Her red curls bobbed up and down on her shoulders as she walked down the moving staircases. Her and her friends chatted along the way about mindless things, namely who would be there and what there would be to do. Ellie couldn't help but get a little nervous as she thought about who her date would be, but she refrained from saying anything outloud. After all, she'd gone on and on about this date for a while now so she couldn't back out now. She gulped as they entered the hall, put on a wide grin, then walked over to the table with the number 1 on it.
Ellie sat down and then admired the tablescape, smiling and whispering, "Wow," as she noted the romantic vibe of it all. She didn't really expect it to be so elaborate, really, but it was. The candles, the beautiful colors, and the gold elements made Ellie really feel like she was on a legitimate date. It was much more romantic than the shop in Hogsmeade that most couples went to, that was for sure. She played with the ends of her hair as she waited for her date to join her, hoping she didn't have to wait too long.

Sage was a bit nervous honestly. He'd never been the dating type but he decided to put his name into a pot to be matched with a mystery date. Someone he didn't know but who he could end up liking. He was a fairly outgoing person but had pushed himself into a bit of a quiet corner at Hogwarts with people he wasn't friends with. This school wasn't exactly his first option for schooling. Down in Australia he would be like many of the purebloods here in this school. Going to school with the kids that he grew up with. But he didn't go to his school instead he dwelled on that fact as he came to Hogwarts instead and let it stop him from making plenty of friends through his years at Hogwarts. Sixth year was a time that was to change.
He'd dressed up in some nice black dress robes with a dark green and grey plaid undershirt. He'd gotten ready by himself in the dorm whilst chatting with a couple of friends and he combed his hair to look as nice as he could. Being the son of a man who works for the Australian Ministry with their International Cooperation department meant plenty of dinners and plenty of time to learn how to present yourself well to people you didn't know. After he finished getting ready he looked at a paper that he was given. It told him where he was supposed to meet his date. Table one, in the Great Hall.
He made his way out of the Slytherin Common Room and up to the Great Hall. The entire hall had been beautifully transformed into a very romantic place. Each piece had been selected with purpose and made look so perfect that he noticed everyone walking in was in a bit of awe. Hogwarts never ceased to impress him, he must admit that.
That was when his eyes took to looking for his table. But first a quick detour to the drinks table where he reached down and grabbed both a drink for him and his dates. Then his eyes scanned the tables nearby. Table one, there was a girl with a very red top and pink skirt to match. He was impressed but he honestly didn't recognize the girl. Nor could he place her in a house. Well here it went...
A smile donned upon the sixth year's mouth and he sat down next to her. A nice slide of the drink placed one in front of her and looked at her. ”You must be my table number one date,” he chuckled, ”I'm Sage.” He stuck his hand out to officially greet her.

i want you to stay Ellie's nerves grew as she waited for her date to arrive, wondering if he actually would show. There was something strange about waiting for a date that you didn't know. She didn't know if she disliked it, or if she was just so anxious that it felt like she was irritated about the whole thing. When her date finally showed though, so smooth and sophisticated, Ellie was completely blown away. She grinned as Sage sat next to her and watched as her drink stopped right before it was able to spill. She looked up from her cup and grinned at him. "Well, Sage, you know how to make a first impression," Ellie said with a wide smile on her face. "I'm Ellie," she said softly, her eyes sparkling as she continued to meet his gaze.
If she could have dreamed about her mystery date, he would have fallen short of expectations that Sage set. He was...well, hot. Ellie could have probably laughed at how giddy she was at the realization that her date was so particularly handsome, but still, she stayed relatively calm. "Well it's nice to meet you anyway, Sage. I'm glad you didn't turn out to be some creepo," she laughed. "Well I guess I don't really know that, huh? So...let's talk?" she asked, biting her lower lip. She didn't want this to go sour within the first few minutes of talking. She just wasn't exactly sure what to say. What did you say to someone that you not only just met, but that you had signed up to meet? How did you even go about it? Ellie was merely fifteen; she had no clue what to do, say, or feel.
Well, she did know how she felt. At that particular moment, she was feeling very happy that she'd signed up for this. Even if it was a gamble, a risk, it was definitely paying off. At least, it was in that moment.

Sage felt as though he wasn't trying any harder to make a first impression than he would normally. Maybe it was in his blood. That was what his father did and he'd always had to do it as a kid. Impressions were incredibly important. The only part that honestly shocked Sage about what he'd done with this whole mystery date thing was that he knew how his parents would feel about even a single date with someone who wasn't a pureblood. But then again they didn't have to know especially if he didn't even know. It was crazy how blood purity still played a factor in a person's life even when a family portrayed themselves as open to everything. His parents were a different stroke of the brush.
He thought the girl who introduced herself as Ellie was quite cute. Gutsy, but definitely cute. ”Well, Sage, you know how to make a first impression. I'm Ellie.” ”First impressions, that has been every day of my life since I was a toddler,” he chuckled with a grin. ”It's very nice to meet you, Ellie, and I'm hoping you don't mind the drink I picked up for you, as long as no one spiked it this time,” he said with a slight laugh. The last major ball had ended up with the spiking of the punch and it was quite strong,
Well here was to making the best of a bit of an awkward night. Hopefully Sage could make sure that tonight wouldn't turn into an awkward date. He was quite excited though for the night though. ”Well it's nice to meet you anyway, Sage. I'm glad you didn't turn out to be some creepo.” She gave a laugh and he returned it as she finished what she was saying. ”Well I guess I don't really know that, huh? So... let's talk?” He gave a nod and sipped the drink a bit. ”Well, other than names I don't think we know anything about each other, so yes let us talk before we go dance or y'know enjoy the ball with friends or so,” he said with a smile. ”So maybe I can start by asking some generic questions and I'll return some generic answers and then we can get into more gritty stuff,” he laughed. ”So, let us see, generic questions, what year are you in and same for house?” he asked her. It was always easy to get to know someone by asking the few basics.
One thing that Sage knew was he was definitely excited for this night. This beautiful girl who he knew nothing about sat next to him and he was getting ready to learn it all. He was getting ready to learn exactly who she was. He was excited to meet a new person, maybe a future friend, maybe even a future more.
