HISTORY:
Thanks to his grandmother and his great-grandfather on his mother’s side, Edmund inherited a weak Seer ability, mostly dealing with his ability to predict weather. In family, it’s known as weather precognition, though sometimes, instead of weather, select members of the family, including muggles, can foresee the future, predicting it in weather terms. However, this ability is incredibly unstable and the strongest whenever they are near water. Living in Leeds, and then moving to seaside, where water was always available, none of the family members with Seer ability had any trouble. Still, the predictions of events other than weather the next day are exceptionally rare, and almost never long term or accurate.
Once he moved to seaside around eight, he ran into a girl named Katharina, who just moved there herself from Norway. The pair of them almost immediately became best friends, but as they both went to Hogwarts, there was a growing distance, particularly as they’ve been Sorted into different Houses with Edmund being a Hufflepuff and Katharina a Gryffindor. Hesitant to embrace his House values, Edmund did what he always had in unfamiliar situation, retreating behind books and studies. His relationship with Katharina deteriorated as well, reverting to mild teasing and his being unaffected at all either by her half-veela nature or by her growing irritation with his remarks, which weren’t at all suitable for either of them.
Still at sea concerning his career choice, Edmund chose to stick to core subjects, starting to excel in Transfiguration and Potions and strengthening his knowledge of Charms and Defense. His least favorite subject being Divination, he never even considered taking it despite his ability, for he never needed any sort of helping along with it. Now a seventh year, he considers calling a truce with Katharina, whose lack of friendship over the school years he found sorely missing, and perhaps managing to settle down in his choices, as well as developing his ability stronger, though this last one was going to largely be left up to a chance, given its spontaneity.
