LIKES: Nature, creatures (both magical and non-magical), the quiet, thunderstorms, swimming, firewhiskey, teaching, telling stories, travelling
DISLIKES: Dark magic, being cooped up inside, confrontation, losing control, arrogance, selfishness, crowded places
BIGGEST FEAR: Watching those around him suffer and/or die at the hands of dark wizards
PERSONALITY:
Brave: From being a very young boy, Sam always demonstrated his bravery. He was always the first child to climb the tallest tree, he was always the protective hand over his younger sister's shoulder and he was always the kid in the playground standing up to the bully. The Sorting Hat made no mistake when it placed him in Gryffindor. It is no surprise that he chose to become an Auror upon leaving school and even now, after everything that he has been through, Sam always shows the strongest or spirits when standing in the face of danger. He fears less for his own life and more for the lives of those around him.
Quiet: Sam doesn't talk a lot. He is the strong and silent type. As friendly as he is, he sometimes finds himself at a loss for words - honestly, he doesn't always see the point of them. Actions are what speak, not words. Even when teaching his lessons, Sam takes a more hands on approach, choosing to deal with students one-on-one rather than spending a great deal of time at the front of the class dishing out lectures. That isn't to say that Sam doesn't talk when it matters, he's just more comfortable offering an open ear to do the listening. Sometimes a smile says more than a thousand words ever could.
Grieving: Sam hasn't yet managed to get over the death of his sister and he isn't honestly sure if he ever will. Despite him being a wizard and she being a muggle, the two of them had always shared a close relationship. She was his baby sister and it had been - it always had been - his duty to protect her. Not only does he see her death as a failure to live up to that duty, but he also considers it his own fault. He blames himself. Sam doesn't talk about his sister if he can at all help it.
Over-protective: Perhaps it goes hand in hand with his bravery, but Sam has always had an incredibly protective nature when it comes to those around him - particularly those whom he cares about. Following the death of his sister, this over-protectiveness has greatly increased - perhaps as over-compensation for his failures in keeping her safe. However, as overbearing as this trait can make him, Sam genuinely means well. He is often a gentleman, offering those he believes are under his duty of care accompaniment when he feels that they are in need of it. He is very persistent and will not take 'no' for an answer.
Powerful: Although his role as Care of Magical Creatures Professor may not be the most demanding, Sam is an incredibly talented wizard. He achieved high grades throuhgout his time at Hogwarts and was accepted to train as an Auror with open arms. He is particularly skilled in defensive spells but can also produce powerful offensive spells when required. He is, however, now plagued with a reluctance to use any of those talents. His new position allows him to leave that part of himself behind and he is in no hurry to begin playing the almighty hero once more. Instead, he mostly leaves his wand in its holster now and tends to the creatures of Hogwarts as much as he can without using magic.
Brooding: Friendly? Yes. Happy disposition? ... Not so much. Sam can often be found wearing a brooding look upon his face, as if he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He tends to come across as a little grumpy and as if he takes himself (and the rest of the world) far too seriously. Essentially, he is a very nice guy, but it takes a lot to work past that furrowed-brow exterior of his. He finds it very hard to let go and allow himself to have a good time.
Animal affinity: The job move to Care of Magical Creatures teacher wasn't a spur of the moment decision for Sam. From first arriving at Hogwarts, the magical creatures that he encountered there fascinated him. Having grown up in a muggle community, the wonders of the creatures included upon the pages of Newt Scamander's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them were astounding to him. With a firm hand but a gentle nature, the animals that the students studied in class took to him well and he to them. He spent many of his afternoons helping the then COMC Professor tend to the animals and, had it not been for his penchant for heroics, it most probably would have been his first career choice. Nature is his thing and he is never more comfortable and calm than in the presence of animals.
Temper: Sam doesn't lose his temper often, but when he does it is not a pretty sight. He is mostly an incredibly calm person, however when the right (or wrong) people push his buttons he has a very unforgiving side to thim. He doesn't tolerate cruel or intolerant behaviour and he will speak out without a second thought when he feels others are in the wrong. He has had some problems with a select number of pupils (particularly Slytherins) in the past, since taking on the job almost a year ago now. He has an eye for those he believes will turn to dark magic in years to come, or those he knows come from elitist families, and he does not take to them well.

MOTHER: Silky Hunter (nee Appleby)
FATHER: Richard Hunter
SIBLINGS:
HISTORY: Samael Elias was the first chld born to Silky and Richard Hunter - both muggles. Silky worked as a waitress in a country pub and Richard was a famer, running the nearby family smallholding. Upon Samael's birth, Silky quit her job and became a stay-at-home mum. The family lived in a quirky little farmhouse in the North of England (Yorkshire, to be precise) and led a very comfortable life. Four years after Sam - as he soon became known - was born, his mother gave birth to another child, his younger sister - Sabrina. Sam was finally a big brother and he took to it like a duck to water. Sabrina was the apple of his eye and, as she grew older, they spent many a summer day running around the farm and helping to take care of all the animals.
Upon beginning to attend muggle school, Sam became a popular boy, confident and kindhearted. Although he wasn't particularly keen on the whole classroom situation - sitting still was never his strong point - Sam excelled in most things that he put his mind to. There was, however, some concern that he was the source of some odd behaviour. Playground bullies would argue with Sam and almost immediately afterwards they would spring a nasty case of chickenpox or develop warts all over their hands. Hands that only moments that, only moments ago, been being used to punch somebody square in the jaw. And then there was the case of the colouring pencils that a teaching assistant had sworn Sam had made dance across the table without touching them during a particularly boring maths paper. People grew... wary of him. Wary of the small boy that wouldn't harm a fly - unless it harmed somebody else first, of course.
Still, it was with shock that Samael's parents received a strange visitor at their door shortly before his eleventh birthday. A witch who claimed to be from a school called Hogwarts. Sam was a wizard, she said, and the school wished for him to begin attending in the coming September. After stumbling over the initial shock, Sam's parents accepted his gift with open arms and agreed to send him to study at the school. Sam too was excited - as any boy would be - but leaving Sabrina behind would be difficult for him. She pleaded to go with him... but of course she could not. Despite his almost imminent departure from the family home, the pair remained close and she, of course, eventually settled into her life as a muggle.
Arriving at Hogwarts, Sam was placed into Gryffindor. There he thrived, developing a close-knit friend group and working hard at his studies. During his time there, however, Sam faced much prejudice from other members of the wizarding world. He was muggleborn, mudblood, scum. Although he was more than capable of standing up for himself, there were those who could not. It was during his fourth year that he became determined to put his nose to the grindstone and work hard to become a dark wizard catcher - an Auror. Scorned by the prejudice he received and horrified by the atrocities that dark magic could create, he had no doubt that he had no choice but to work to stop those wizards who abused their power. He joined the duelling club, developed his defensive spells, became a strong leader. It was his destiny.
There was little surprise amongst his peers when Sam graduated from Hogwarts and headed straight off to the Auror training camp. There he fell off the radar for a while, putting himself through his paces in an almost regimented style and focusing solely on his future career. It was during this training that Sam became an animagus, learning the art of transfiguring the body. His newfound form of a fox was thought to be a useful tool in his future years as an Auror - what better method of infiltration? Upon leaving the training camp, he was accepted into the ministry department and was quickly put into action. For six years he worked in the department, making quite the name for himself as a dark wizard catcher. Even after the Battle of Hogwarts, there were still dark wizards moving under the radar and Sam and the rest of the Aurors were determined to put a stop to them. It was during one particular pursuit of a group of wizards and witches that the thing Sam had always dreaded most happened... They used his family to get to him.
Sam had been leading the investigation, tracking their moves and backing them into corners. However, they had also been tracking his moves. They were not going to allow themselves to be caught. In a desperate move, they took his sister, Sabrina, who had been studying at university at the time. They used her as leverage. Despite negotiations, the dark wizards would not let her go free unless they themselves were permitted to escape. Tormented, devastated, heartbroken... Sam backed down. They could go - he just wanted her returned to him. But as Sam backed down, the other Aurors knew that they could not. They moved in on the wizards and Sabrina was killed. Murdered. Disposed of in cold blood. The wizards were caught and sent to Azkaban. The case was closed... but Sam's wounds would not close with it. He blamed the other Aurors for risking her life... but most of all, he blamed himself for putting her in that position.
Understandably, Sam could no longer face work. His job had taken the one thing in the world that mattered to him most and, if he was to continue, who was to say that he wouldn't lose more? His parents? His friends? His humanity? He couldn't do it. And so, with a heavy heart, he handed in his notice and left the department without once looking over his shoulder. He couldn't do it anymore. In time, his heart mended - although never fully - and he put his mind to the only other thing in the world that he felt confident in doing. He took up a place teaching Care of Magical Creatures at Hogwarts, living in a small hut in the Hogwarts grounds and spending the majority of his time with the creatures that he was to teach about. Somehow, he had more faith in the animals than he did humans...
