a story about jimmy .
emmanuel, or jimmy as he was more well-known as a child, was the son of an extremely devoted couple of christianity. the religion was very sacred to the novak's for years and it wasn't to stop with jimmy. he attended church frequenly as he grew up was was strictly brought up with other children whose parents shared the same beliefs. jimmy's parents had good intentions, they weren't obsessed with bringing their son up to be a priest, this was merely the tradition they were raised. and jimmy had no complaints, although he had no idea that some families didn't follow the word of a god, he was happy and had a fufilling childhood. he went to a public school when he became of age and was a content student, but what the teachers noticed most in jimmy was his excelled intelligence, and how he could memorise things that most children took weeks to remember. he was also rather quiet, but had friends he played with - some of whom hadn't ever picked up a bible, but the topic of religion wasn't one to be discussed with children, at such an age when prejudice and judgement didn't exist. his parents were weary at first but they were reassured countless times when jimmy would come home and pray his thanks at the dinner table each night.
an unusual talent presented itself when jimmy was nine, it was getting close to christmas and his mother had come home with boxes and bags of things he was dying to peek at. it was blatantly obvious that most of the items were for his christmas presents, the way his mother playfully shoved him out of the way and chased him out of the room. giggling, he stood at the doorway with one foot shuffling back to the presents. 'what's in there, mommy?' he asked as she stacked a box wrapped in parcel paper onto the table. her mouth never opened and remained curved in a devilish smirk but jimmy heard her loud and clear 'the superhero action figure that you're not getting until christmas,'. and as an ignorant child, jimmy just sqealed and jumped across to her, hugging her leg as she just looked down on him, puzzled. jimmy had no clue that he was reading the minds of his loved ones, but as the voices became more apparent, it dawned on him that the words spoken weren't coming from his lips. usually it was just his mother muttering her shopping list back to her in her head, but jimmy heard it. he didn't tell anyone about this, and eventually the 'talent' faded as he aged towards his eleventh birthday..
jimmy was denied from hogwarts school of magic not by the headteacher, not by the ministry of magic, but by his parents. this was exactly the kind of thing that jimmy's parents were shielding him from but for once, jimmy was resisting because come on, going to school to learn magic, you can't just say no to that. jimmy acted out most of the year, declining in his grades and refusing to eat with his family, he did all a rebelling child does within a year. people noticed this, and as jimmy's - what was supposed to be his - first year at hogwarts ended, the novak's were met with an unusual character, a teacher from the school that jimmy was desperate to go to. with the knowledge that jimmy wished to attend, and that his parents were refusing to allow him to, the headmaster felt they would benefit a visit from them. being devout parents of god, the professor understood how daunting it would be to allow their child to go off to a school they'd never heard of, or believed existed. the professor made it very clear though, that hogwarts was as real as any school in the world and that jimmy deserved a chance to attend. and after much deliberation, the professor left with jimmy's parents' blessing, and he was to begin hogwarts, starting a year behind his age group.
he was easily sorted into ravenclaw and fit himself comfortably around the other students and made friends instantly. his attendance in class was unlike anyone had ever seen. he picked up so quickly and it was clear he was eager to learn all that he could. he reminded the teachers of another student, a muggle-born like himself who later assisted in defeating lord voldemort alongside harry potter himself. a lot of hermione granger was seen in jimmy, though he wasn't eager to prove himself as the best in his class, nor was he too concerned that his grades would be perfect. he was enjoying the experience each day and would have great stories to tell his parents each summer when he came home for the holidays. like his first school, jimmy's parents softened to his new education and were proud of their son. to them, this was an act of god, this was proof that they'd raised their son well and god was blessing jimmy. perhaps this is true, it depends on what you believe in.
jimmy graduated hogwarts in his seventh year with perfect grades and the world was pretty much his oyster, he could choose anything he wanted to do, he'd read about the adventures some wizards encountered in their lives, discovering new creatures and acquiring new abilities. so what did jimmy do? he went home, got into a muggle university and studied philosophy. yeah, mental but it gets better. after he graduates there with a degree, he goes on to find a job in an office, taking up a career that has nothing to do with what he'd taken a year of his life to study. there he met a young woman called rachel and she was a smart, organised and headstrong fellow christian that jimmy instantly fell for. his friends from his teenage years tried to get in touch with him. an owl was present constantly at his office with no explanation. the letters got to jimmy, and he responded, telling people he'd found his place. hogwarts was merely an experience for him, even if it had provided him with so many opportunities, he'd found a good enough job and was falling in love exceedingly fast. he was content with living the rest of his life as a muggle, having only fond memories of being a wizard. jimmy was then married at twenty one and soon after rachel was expecting their first baby, they bought a house just outside brighton and a few months later, little annie novak was born. she was to be raised just as jimmy and rachel were but rachel was suddenly bringing up annie alone, jimmy had vanished into thin air only eight months into annie's life. there was no explanation as to why jimmy had left, he'd shown no signs of doubts, he loved his family dearly and he never complained, he had a good life. so why leave it? well it wasn't exactly jimmy's choice to leave.
kidnapped isn't the correct word for what happened to jimmy, he was summoned against his will back into the world he was sure he'd left behind for good. this was exactly the reason he'd left. it was in the daily prophet constantly and it was a discussion creeping around the halls at hogwarts. a darker evil was rising and before long, the wizarding world would erupt in yet another war. jimmy wasn't a fighter, nor did he want to be, but this was what hogwarts was for. he saw the school as a training program, equipping children with weapons to defend and offend should the situation arise. jimmy hated this sort of thing, and even though magic was addicting, he left to escape so that hopefully the magic wouldn't follow him. it did though. he was hauled back into the battle before he could protest, it didn't matter that jimmy had left his wand behind. the wizarding world desperately needed as much help as they could possibly get, even if that meant removing some witches and wizards from the life they built. jimmy only succumbed when his family came into the picture, they would be in too much danger, and a wizard could never just stop being one and ignore what was happening in the world of magic. there were too many risks, lives weren't to be gambled where it could be avoided. so jimmy reluctantly agreed to return under the condition that all trails of his existence would not lead to his family, and that they would live on safely. this meant that jimmy would have to leave and never return, not even to say goodbye or explain. he was just gone one day.
rachel was fed a lie that her jimmy had died walking home from the store, hit and killed instantly by a speeding truck that was losing control on the slippery road. she has no idea that her husband is alive and well, although she'd be best to never find out because if they met, jimmy, or emmanuel as he is known today, would be looking into the face of a stranger. jimmy was unable to move on, so he took it upon himself to eliminte any and all memories of his wife and daughter so he wasn't haunted by the life he once lived in.
emmanuel novak is an auror and hunter, working for the order of the phoenix against the dark lady. he is known as an emotionless yet loyal being, devoted to purifying the world of all evil. he remembers nothing of his past, only intensive training. he has no family, nor many friends. people often wonder if emmanuel is human at all.
