The Bonfire Bakery, not only the best bagels and biscuits in all of Diagon Alley they say, but in all of London... or so they say. But they were quite popular, along with the danishes and the tarts. Even some of the less pleasant roamers of Knockturn Alley slithered out now and again to buy a baked good. And that made no difference to owner Alpin Zigfried Zephyr. For one, he was a good-hearted chap who believed no one was completely bad, and two, business was business and he had a family to feed. Moving from his native Scotland with his wife, Donalda, and his daughter, Alpin, he was fortunate to put his non-magical skill of baking to good use with the purchase of the shop. He was no rich man by any means, but he and his family did well.
Alpin was a man of average size and weight, red hair and goatee, and thick glasses. About the Alley, he usually wore a grey suit and tie, but at work, the jacket and tie were removed and replaced with a long, white apron. He was an eccentric fellow, but friendly and respected by his customers and other business people in the Alley. A few bad apples here and there mocked his eccentric personality, even when they enjoyed his baked goods.
That morning, he was in the back baking a specially ordered cake when he heard the series of floating bells ring when someone walked into his shop. He peeked out and smiled to see it was his daughter, Viona. She had been out and about purchasing her books and other items for the upcoming year at Hogwarts. He looked down at her rabbit Gusifus, who she managed to hold along with some of her books. His smile dropped a little, but not too much.
"So you're bringing Gusifus with ya again, are ya love?" he asked, his thick Scottish accent shining through.
"Dad, I always take Gusifus to Hogwarts with me," she said.
"Aye, aye, ya do," chuckled Alpin. "Well why don't ya take Oxford with ya this time? He'd love to run the grounds." Oxford was the family dog, a Scottish Terrier.
"And would miss you terribly," laughed Viona.
"Aye...aye he would and I would miss him," said Alpin. Like his wife and daughter, he loved animals a great deal. Oxford was his favorite of the family pets. "What about Raz Daz, or Nip, Pip, and Zip?" The former two were the family Parakeets and the latter three were the family Guinea Pigs.
"I can't take care of more than one with me studies, dad, you know that," she said.
"Aye... that's true," he said. "Piccadilly?" Picaadilly was the family Iguana. Viona just gave him a look. "Ah yes, your mother would never let me hear the end of it. Gusifus it is then."
Alpin's jaw then opened.
"You'll need something to snack on for the train ride, and carrots for Gusifus!" he said. "Can't have you both eating trolley candy the whole trip."
"We packed me and Gusifus' lunch already, dad, remember?" said Viona.
"Aye... you know I'm certainly glad I have you around, love," he said. The two then laughed before Viona put down her rabbit and items and the two embraced. "Now let me get this cake out of the oven and I'll see you off at the train station." He then headed back to the kitchen, before popping his head out again.
"Ya sure you won't take Piccadilly, love?" he asked. Another look from Viona. "Aye... that's right, your mother. You won't tell her I asked, will ya?" Viona smiled and shook her head. "Thank ya, love."
