MOTHER: Margaret von Engel; half-veela;
deceased
FATHER: Reginald von Engel; currently serving a
life sentence in Azkaban
SIBLINGS: Morgana von Engel; twin; likely
deceased
Jonah Penninck; not actually related by
blood; missing
HISTORY: During the second war Reginald and
Margaret fought valiantly along side the Death Eaters. Believing that
it was the only way to spare the wizarding world of the impure
plague, they uprooted themselves from their native Germany and joined
the cause. After the Dark Lord's fall, however, the quickly retreated
back to Munich and went into hiding. With those who had pledged
allegiance to the Dark Lord being picked up left and right, they
narrowly escaped and did what they could to prevent the horrors of
Azkaban from descending upon them.
Sadly, it wasn't enough for the young
couple. After five years they got careless, despite Margaret having
given birth to a set of twins. Unable to contain their desire to live
in the lap of luxury, it was at a ridiculously lavish third birthday
party for the twins when they were finally caught. Margaret, with her
quick temper and even quicker wand, was killed in front of the girls.
Reginald, utterly distraught at the loss of his beloved, was quickly
captured and sentenced to a life in Azkaban. After that, the twins
were on their own and became inseparable. Naturally, they went to
live with a distant aunt, though she was as cold and manipulating as
the rest of their family. Preferring to keep their inheritance under
lock and key, they certainly never wanted for anything, but it wasn't
until the graduated that they were able to use their money on their
own.
Perhaps the only silver lining was the
fact that, upon moving in with their aunt, they met the neighbor boy
Jonah Penninck. As soon as the three met there was instant chemistry
and from then on, despite him being a year younger, they were
inseparable. Mischief, mayhem, and devious behavior was what they
lived for, and they did it well. Before long the twins viewed him as
a younger brother and Addison treasured him. Not as though he were a
pet, but as an equal which, aside from Morgana, no one had or would
be able to achieve.
Finally, at thirteen years old the pair
made a break for it and ran off. Despite continuing their education
at Durmstrang, they were never actually “claimed” by anyone
again. Inheriting their mother's charm and manipulative tendencies,
along with their father's lack of moral compass, they would simply
lie to their professors until they were released for the holidays. It
became quite common that most adults they dealt with would eventually
deem them not worth the trouble. They were, as they heard so often,
broken...
Damaged goods...
Unfortunate really, but what could
anyone expect after witnessing their mother being killed in front of
them?
That kind of evil at that young of age?
Well, it simply got into them too early.
They were a lost-cause.
Poor dears...
Just before graduation, Jonah was
expelled from Durmstrang, something which shook Addison to her core.
It was as though she lost both her mother and father all over again.
If even possible, she became more callous, colder, and perhaps even
more violent. Anyone who dared cross the veela would regret it and
she held little tolerance for anyone who tried. After that, Jonah
disappeared which hit Addison even harder. For weeks she wandered the
grounds, hoping he had simply run off into the forest or was hiding
just out of view. This kept up until the twins left Durmstrang for
good.
Upon graduation, (which was more due to
the staff wanting to get rid of them rather than their academic
prowess) they claimed their inheritance and proceeded to live a
lifestyle of wealth and riches. While the von Engel name held little
weight in Britain, it was among the most noble in the German
wizarding community. Everywhere they went they were feared or
admired, and quite frankly they adored either one. Despite their poor
attendance at school, both girls had become quite proficient in the
ways of magic on their own; spending many late nights dueling,
reading, and practicing on each other. They were nearly hermits,
purchasing a large manor outside of the Black Forest, and kept mainly
to themselves.
Once on their own and armed with enough
resources, they each threw themselves into their own projects.
Morgana was determined to reunite their family once more, pouring
over ways to break their father out of Azkaban. Addison however,
began an obsessive search for Jonah, believing that if she just
looked in the right place he would be there, waiting. It was pure
denial; she refused to believe that he would simply abandon them like
that. Then, without so much as a warning, Morgana slipped away and
disappeared, leaving only a short note by Addison's bedside;
Gone to get father, be back soon.
Love you sissy-pie!
Xoxo ~ Morgana
And that was the last Addison had heard
from her. The loss destroyed her to her very core, as she felt more
like she had lost half of her soul rather than a sister. The two were
one in the same, never apart, and with her gone she felt empty –
devoid of life. For a year after she had locked herself inside,
speaking to no one, and never seeing the light of day. The manor was
her haven, refusing entry to anyone and everyone. Emerging only at
night, she would retrieve large amounts of alcohol, most often break
down in hysterics at the sight of something that reminded her of
Morgana, spend the rest of the evening drinking herself into a state
of numb apathy. The curtains remained shut, her already bleak attire
became nearly all-black, and her already short fuse became nearly
non-existent. Finally, on the anniversary of Morgana's disappearance,
she reached her breaking point. The only thing the townsfolk found
the next day was the manor reduced to a pile of ashes. It was
uncertain to them whether she had lived or been burned alive, though
she could have cared less. She had received word that Jonah was
possibly in London and that was all it took to set her off on a quest
to find the two people in the world that she simply couldn't live
without.
Upon her arrival in the UK, she
purchased a large manor in the countryside and began her hunt.
Whispers of a new organization following the ideals of her
ancestors-past caught her attention, though things such as blood
purity and status seemed trivial anymore. Instead, she found the idea
of power more alluring than she had ever thought possible, as through
power she would be able to exact her revenge on those who had
destroyed what she loved and with power she could assure that no one
would take them from her again.
