Nina thought that because she was half Muggle, Muggle Studies would be an easy class for her. What she didn't take into account was the fact that most of her life, she had been exposed to her father's world. Her mother, Glinda, was an only child, and Glinda's parents had passed on before Nina was born. Therefore, Nina's only real exposure to the Muggle World was her mother, and her mother rather enjoyed the wizarding world's lack of Muggle things. So... Nina Devoll really didn't know a lot about Muggles. For her project, Nina had chosen something she thought would be fun, and that was a strange form of entertainment the Muggles created called cartoons. Her task was to write about how cartoons could be applied to the wizarding world. Nina had no clue where to begin, but it was too late to change her mind about the topic. She had looked all over the Muggles Studies section in the library, but had found little about cartoons. Plenty on old live action movies and old live action television shows, but not cartoons. So with all hope that she would get this done by herself lost, she finally gave in and made an appointment with Professor Kelith. She didn't dread seeing Prof. Kelith. He was a great teacher and incredibly handsome. However, Nina wanted him to believe she could handle a project on her own. Perhaps all it would take was just a little bit of help from him and then she could handle the majority of it. Time to find out. She stepped in and looked about. "Professor Kelith?" she asked. Damien grew up in the muggle world. The young professor hadn't thought much about his life before he came to Hogwarts. It took a lot out of him to think of times before then. Muggle objects were something that you were used to when you grew up with them. You never really knew how to use the objects, it was just a mindless thing that you had done. Damien lived in the muggle world until he graduated at Hogwarts. Every summer, every holiday was spent in a muggle foster home. It was when he graduated that he'd known that he wanted to teach at Hogwarts. Something that wasn't as applied. He'd never been all that great at wanded magic. He was decent but he wasn't good enough to teach. On the other hand he knew all there was to know about muggles. When the position opened up a few years ago, he was invited and he was happy to jump on that chance.
Damien this evening had been working on the end of term test that he'd wanted for his students to take. He'd sat at his desk leaned over as he made sure it covered what the students would have learned so they'd be able to pass his class. Damien wasn't about to let anyone fail his class. Muggle studies wasn't easy, even for the muggleborn children but it wasn't necessarily hard either. Badger hopped up on his desk and attempted to lay on the paper that he was writing on. Damien's blue eyes moved to the large cat and he grinned. ”Badger, I swear, you attempt to prevent me from doing any work,” he said picking up the nearly twenty pound thin cat and sitting him on his lap. When he leaned back into his chair his eyes fell on to one of his students. A sixth year Hufflepuff, Nina Devoll.
”Miss Devoll?” he asked as he moved Badger off to the side. ”Please come in, take a seat,” he told her. He had two comfy armchairs at the front of his desk and he always made sure to let his students know that they were welcome to bother him at any time for anything. He tried to portray an older brother when it came to the people that he helped teach. ”Is there anything I can help you with?” he asked her.

When Kelith answered, Nina wasn't exactly relieved. She still dreaded having to ask for his help. After all, what would it be like if everyone in all his classes asked for his aid? And had several others already asked him? Then she would just be a big annoyance. But wait, he was a nice guy. Nina then told herself to calm down. What was the worst that could happen? Nina smiled and stepped over. She turned and waved at Badger before sitting across from the teacher. He was such an adorable cat. She then turned to Kelith again. "Thank you for seeing me today, Professor," she said respectfully. "Well... well..." Nina then sighed and decided to spill. "Well, to be quite honest with you, Professor, I am quite stuck on my project on Muggle animated art and how it could apply to our world. I think I should have picked a more practical subject. There's nothing in the school library about it, and I certainly can't travel all the way to London to get information." Nina calmed herself and again and looked at the Professor. Damn he was good looking. "Professor, I am certainly not asking you to do the project for me," she said. "But is there any way you could point me in the right direction? Once I can get some good research material, I'll be more than good to go." Nina hoped the sad puppy- dog eyes would work on him. It was a cheap trick, and Nina rarely used it, but it just kind of happened in times like these. DAMIEN REED KELITH

Damien looked at the girl who sat across from him. Nina tried hard in his class, or at least it seemed like that. There was always one thing that Damien aimed for as a professor and it was that his students understood what he was supposed to be teaching them. Muggle Studies wasn't a popular class but he could at least attempt to make it more popular.
”Thank you for seeing me today, Professor. Well... Well... Well, to be quite honest with you, Professor, I am quite stuck on my project about muggle animated art and how it could apply to our world. I think I should have picked a more practical subject. There's nothing in the school library about it, and I certainly can't travel all the way to London to get information.” Damien nodded before pushing back in his chair and standing up. ”Muggle animated art, cartoons, I grew up watching such things, how could it be applied to the wizarding world?” he asked. He went and looked at his shelves. It was muggle story books and so many other things along the shelf. Almost like a personal library. ”Well of course you won't find a book about muggles in the Hogwarts library, or at least not one that's even remotely helpful in understanding muggles or applying their technology to our own lives,” he said shaking his head. He pulled a book down that was about media in the muggle world. Maybe not specific to animation but this would do well. He flipped through the book to make sure he was happy with the book he picked out for the girl.
”Professor, I am certainly not asking you to do the project for me. But is there any way you could point me in the right direction? Once I can get some good research material, I'll be more than good to go.” Damien caught a glimpse of sad puppy dog eyes towards him. ”Calm down, I think this book should help out quite a bit,” he said with a smile. ”Muggle entertainment is very interesting to say the least, animation is most interesting, instead of being acted out by actors and actresses you can have characters that you would normally have to pay a lot of money if they were played by people, with makeup and costume and so much more, but instead a computer introduces a view of someone's mind without the constraints of only being able to use people,” he thought a little bit, ”I would suggest with starting on why would we want to apply muggle animation to our world before starting with how it could be applied to our world. Why would we use drawings as entertainment? Things like that will get you a good start, and if you ever do have a chance to go to London, you should take the opportunity to watch some shows,” he told her. He knew she was a halfblood but even the children who had one muggle parent were typically raised to go with the magical world. They're not immersed into the muggle side of their lives. Some get to go to schools like the ones that Damien had been to.
”Is there anything else I can help you with? Any of your other classes or even help you get started on the report?” he asked her.

Nina listened as Kelith went over everything. He was right. The Muggle Studies section in the library was certainly the lightest, and she had often heard what books they did have were a bit inaccurate, as they were written by wizards who studied Muggles and heavily wrote based on their assumptions, not facts. Also, a lot of the books were on things that wizards and witches already pretty much knew about. She beamed when Kelith had a book in his collection, and was willing to loan it to her. She would of course return it right after her project. Nina had never returned a book late in her life, to the library or otherwise. "Thank you very much, Professor Kelith," she said. "This is wonderful." She then listened to his suggestions. He was drawing in the right direction, and now she began to develop an idea of how she wanted to approach it. "Perhaps for the why, I could speak on how we, like Muggles, always seek an evolution in what entertains us, and animation provides that for Muggles. After all, I am sure cartoons are different now from what they were twenty or thirty years ago." She then nodded when he suggested she checked out some cartoons when she returned to London. "I will, Professor," she said. "You class makes me want to explore more about my Muggle side. My mother seems to enjoy the more simple life my father has given her, but I'm sure she can still tell me more about being a Muggle if I ask." The Professor then asked if there was anything more. "I'm doing pretty well in classes, and am studying hard for exams," she said. "I'm not sure what I want to do when I get out yet, but something fun... well and helps pay the rent of course." Nina chuckled at this. DAMIEN REED KELITH
