HISTORY: Pampered little Princess was never the phrase to describe Ariel in the slightest. Born the youngest of six in her family, Ariel was used to being the one forgotten amoungst her siblings. Being of pure wizard blood and of high standings in the wizarding world, alot was expected of not just her but all Chadwick children. All from birth were expected to be well versed in ettiqutte, social standings, and were expected to excell in an instrument. All were expected to one day be examples of how high society witches and wizards were to be in this so-called "New World of Understanding". But Ariel was never one to conform to the ideas of her stature.
Being of kind nature, Ariel was the only one amoungst her siblings who cared for everything she could lay her fingers on. While the other's stuck their noses up and ignored their House Elves, Ariel would always be the one sneaking them extra food to eat and befriending them. Even the birds who flew around the outside garden seemed to catch on to her gentle nature and would perch on her shoulder in the summer days.
Around the time when her closest of age twin siblings got their letters for Hogwarts, Ariel grew restless and yearned for her own letter. Being pat on the head by her father every time she asked if it had come in yet was the only response and geusture of comfort he gave to her on the matter. It wasn't that her father was uncaring about the subject or her, in fact Ariel was his favorite amoungst the children, but due to his work at the ministry he was an extremely busy man. Most certainly no time for his youngest child to whine about a letter he knew would come in a few short years anyways.
When she did finally receive her letter and was sorted into Hufflepuff, the riff between her Slytherin siblings and herself became a barrier that shamed the great wall of China. The first 2-3 years of her schooling were tedious and boring but a welcome change to the pace of life she had once knew. No longer did she have to be full of elegance and grace but she could now be a kid going to school.
In her third year, the balls of Fate's feet shifted in a worlwind direction and a boy caught her eye that year. Chance Longford. Captain of the Gryffindor Quiditch team, Straight A student, and handsome to boot. She fancied him quite a bit as she spent time talking to him in-between classes. Come to find out, he fancied her too.
The two dated throughout the rest of their school years. At the time they were one of the longest running couples in the entire school. Every swooning girl and on looking guy praised and envied their relationship. When Ariel got accepted to be a nurse at St. Mungos and Chance to the official quidditch team of his home town, the envoius stares grew and grew by the day. All seemed well in their world for that moment.
Once graduation hit and they finally engaged, they moved in to an apartment together and lived happily ever after...
At least that's how Ariel wished her story had ended.
It went more like this.
After graduation, they moved in with each other and at first everything seemed fine. She excused his occasional anger and chaulked it up to stress at the Quidditch Pitch. But then something seemed to have snapped in Chance's eyes and everything started to get strange with him. More then once a week, Chance would go into fits of rage, cursing half the house before finally calming down to think about what he had done. It wasn't until one day when Chance had put his wand against her throat that she realized her school sweetheart was becoming dangerous.
After months of the behaviour from him, Ariel finally decided this was too much. Nothing, not even her undying love for him, was worth being scared out of her wits whenever he came home. So on a cold winter's night, the eve of her birthday to be exact, she left with a note:
Chance,
I just can't do this anymore.
I'm sorry,
-A
She moved back to her parent's mansion, welcomed by them with open arms and love in their hearts. But this still isn't the end. Right before next Christmas, Ariel's mother, the only other kind heart like her's, was murdered. Even though an investigation went underway no one knew who had done it or why. It wasn't until a mysterious letter and owl appeared in the kitchen did she realize who it really was.
Ariel,
I just can't let you go.
I'm sorry,
-C
Before she could even get a full thought through her head she was running. She didn't know where. She didn't know how long time had passed. But she now knew the truth. It was him. And who knew who the next victim would be? This all frightened her. She had finally stopped in front of the entrance into Hogsmeade. Had she really run that far? She broke down at it's gates and cried hysterically. It was almost night fall before a calming hand reached for her trembling shoulder. She looked up. He was glowing in the sunset. His eyes painted with the concern he must've felt. She was confused by it though. Who would be concerned for her? He introduced himself as Marvin. Instantly everything dissolved into nothing. Fate had switched once again.
In the days that past she had grown to like him. But she never revealed her worries about Chance coming to get her one day. eventually through some great string pulling she was able to be employed as a nurse at his workplace, the school she had grown so fond of in younger years, Hogwarts.
There's still not a day when she doesn't worry about Chance coming for her. But at least now, she had Hogwarts and Marvin to keep her safe.
