what was his true name? he’ll lightly never know; who were his parents and what were they like? these questions still continue to plague him. needless to say sébastien hasn’t had the easiest of lives by any means but that isn’t to say he hasn’t had his share of triumphs. abandoned as a boy sébastien spent most of his adolescence surviving within the slums of london. what was wrong with him; where were his parents? did they not want him? someone so young shouldn’t have to ask these questions, more importantly he shouldn’t have to lie, cheat and still to simply survive! the young boy continued this routine for who knows how long until one fateful day.
it was a relatively “normal” day, the sun was out (an unusual occurrence compared to the usual dreary weather they had) and the slums were as “enriching” as usual. it wasn’t long before sébastien set his sights on a man he previously hadn’t seen before. newcomers to what sébastien up until then considered to be his home wasn’t exactly a frequent occurrence so he followed him. while following an unknown and potentially dangerous would be among the countless things parents taught their children not to do sébastien didn’t have that; luckily for him though following that man would turn out to be the best decisions of his life.
he spent his entire day stalking this man. hiding behind barrels and countless other things he could squeeze his tiny malnourished body into or between whenever the stranger would turn back. eventually the man reached what would be their final destination. the leaky cauldron? what a strange name. shadowing the man through the establishment and out the door sébastien stood petrified once he realized there was nowhere to hide! turning around the man smiled, somewhat amused at sébastien’s antics . the man who would later be known to sébastien as reynaud arthur de la fontaine or father explained to him that he was fully aware of sébastien’s presence throughout the day. at first he assumed it to be mere coincidence but sébastien made it painfully obvious soon enough that he had indeed been following him.
reynaud (after introducing himself) asked sébastien where his parents were. when he responded with a blunt, “i don’t care...” he scowled before going silent. after several seconds reynaud responded with, “come with me...” before turning around taping his wand several times on the brick wall before him; and looked back in joy at sébastien ‘s look of astonishment as a new life was (quite literally) opened before him. that was sébastien’s introduction to the wizarding world.
following that day reynaud took sébastien in as his own. formally adopting him and naming him (sébastien philippe marie de la fontaine). thankfully among the first things they did (apart from bathing him) was check to see if he was a wizard. unfortunately reynaud doubted it but was pleasantly surprised when sébastien indeed had a certain degree of innate magical talent. doing what any father in his situation would have done reynaud began teaching his son everything there was to know about magic and the world he now lived in. until his eleventh birthday when his acceptance letter to beauxbatons academy of magi .that was the happiest moment of sébastien’s life he bounced about the room that day (upsetting his step-brother corneille who was ten and therefore had to wait another year)
throughout his time at the academy sébastien proved to be a truly gifted student. not in terms of magical talent but determination. having to put two to three times more effort into performing even the most basic of incarnations sébastien was often at times felt dejected during his time at beauxbatons; but that didn’t stop him. all these people that were now in his life were counting on him! he wouldn’t let their kindness their charity go to waste! he would succeed and he would succeed well! he would be the greatest wizard that had ever lived, he would be forever immortalized as the boy who came from nothing to something!
this was among the greatest times of his life and also the place where he’d ultimately meet his ex-wife morrigan.
she was everything he wasn’t. talented, naturally intelligent (to the point where it was annoying) but most importantly she was dark. not in a literal way but if there was anything one should know about morrigan was that she wasn’t a good person. she didn’t care much about others only her own interests. perhaps thats why sébastien fell in love with her. “unofficially” dating throughout their beauxbatons careers (even if she wouldn’t admit it). it wasn’t long after their graduation did the two get married and have their first (and only) child chloé.
becoming an auror was the first step in sébastien’s pursuit to greatness. eventually though on june twenty-fourth 1995 sébastien’s greatest challenge was placed before him. the second wizarding war, the war that not only claimed a great number of his friends but also tore his family apart. not his adopted family but instead his relationship with his wife and their daughter chloé. morrgian’s family the saints (he never got over the irony) was very much into the pureblood-elitism that was drilled into every member since birth. while morrigan had broadened her horizons slightly since marrying sébastien she was still reluctant to disobey her linage. so she turned her back on sébastien and chloe.
she died during the war, along with the rest of the saint’s; sébastien sorrowfully saw to that personally; making chloé the sole heir to two renowned families. sébastien was never quite the same after watching the love of his life perish before him. he could have stopped her, he should have prevented her from going. he knew she was torn between her family and chloé and him. yet he said nothing, instead he turned away and allowed her to pass through those doors and with it his life.
he’ll never forgive himself but if anything her lost has only strengthened his resolve to not only be the best he could be but also prevent anyone else he cares about from ever leaving him again. unwilling to cause harm to anyone for the remainder of his life sébastien resigned from being an auror and instead focused on becoming a healer. for the next eleven years sébastien has proven himself to be an elite amongst the healers at st. mungo’s hospital . possessing over twenty years of experience. having taken the example of famous healers sébastien not only seeks to match them but surpass them.
to his credit sébastien has become something of a celebrity in recent days within’ the healer community. nicknamed, ‘the healer’ ( he didn’t come up with it ) sébastien had to admit it feels good looking at the surprise in peoples eyes when he tells them that he's ‘the healer’. with that being said all of his skill with healing magic couldn’t have prepared him for what happened next.
a band of roaming pureblood elitist ransacked sébastien’s home one summer night. it was pure chaos! spells were being flung to and from, furniture was exploding and his faithful servants were being slaughtered. though a former aruor the pureblood proved themselves to be a challenge. in the end though sébastien was victorious; unfortunately though the house was destroyed, his servants were killed and he was scarred and deformed permanently.
having became the director for st. mungo’s hospital a few months prior to the attack rather than spend a fortune rebuilding his family’s manor sébastien took cholé and relocated to london, england.
the battle left sébastien frustrated. having spent nearly half of his life so far working as both an auror and later a healer in hopes of making a difference, sébastien was appalled to realize that he hadn’t even made a lasting impact in the world. he quickly realized that a healer no matter how good wasn’t going to change the world, perhaps make small dents behind the scenes but to make a lastly impact to truly make a difference he needed something, sébastien needed to be important, and more importantly he needed power.
how far is he willing to go to protect everything he holds dear. if he was stronger would morrigan be dead? she wouldn’t have died that night. as of late sébastien has been dabbling behind closed doors with dark magic. his first breakthrough was a charm he utilizes to hide his physical deformations and scars by enhancing the veela blood coursing through his veins. no one hears screams coming from the ruined de la fontaine deep within’ the forest at night nor does the common citizen pay much mind to the growing number of men and women going missing.
sébastien would do anything to protect his daughter and bring back his wife.
even if that meant becoming that in which you hated most.
a monster...
