HISTORY:
Leila is a muggle-born, meaning that she never knew about the magic side of her father's family. Her father may have been a muggle, but he had known about his siblings' statuses as wizards and witches because of the letter that had arrived for them from Hogwarts. This also made him a squib, although her father never felt bothered by it. Of course, her father hadn't told her about it since it would definitely be a hard thing to believe. Leila was always a big science-geek, meaning that she always thought that something happened because of something else happening. Everything had a scientific cause, and so the thought of magic would most likely be preposterous to her. Unfortunately for her father, Leila had inherited his curiosity and intelligence, being able to know when someone was hiding something. Her father would never talk about his side of the family and never had any pictures of them around; this was the first thing that Leila noticed. It sparked her curiosity as to why her father would actually hide his family, and so she decided to do a bit of digging before approaching him directly. Leila would look through her father's things whenever she got the chance, trying to find the numbers of his family's telephones and such. When she finally managed to call one of her father's sisters, she realized that there was more to the eye than it seemed.
She found out about her father's magical family and decided to approach him at last. She looked him in the eye and asked why he had kept his magical family a secret. Her father replied rather simply; he answered her question with a frown, saying that he was afraid Leila would not believe him. Leila just shook her head at this and told him that this would have opened up new possibilities for her. If magic was real, then she could try and research it to see if there was some sort of scientific explanation. She always kept her eyes open in case a letter from Hogwarts arrived. And come it did. It arrived only a few days after her 11th birthday, making her pack as soon as possible and send an owl back urgently saying that she would definitely attend. When Leila first arrived at Hogwarts, she had a difficult time fitting in because many of the other students would not speak to her since she kept trying to find out the scientific explanation of magic. Leila would always question the teacher and ask, if the professor was demonstrating a spell, how the spell was possible and what the logic was behind it. This usually caused her to get detentions since the professors took her questions the wrong way. They had thought she was being 'fresh' with them.
Of course, the detentions always gave Leila time to get to know her professors as well as learn a bit more about magic and how it was not a science. This helped Leila as she began to slowly understand that there was nothing scientific about magic. Throughout the years that Leila went to Hogwarts, she learned much about magic and her opinion eventually began to change. Magic was a delicate and difficult art that would most likely never be explained completely. As a result, she decided that instead of becoming a researcher, she would become a professor at Hogwarts. Because Leila was always interested in predicting the future and since she was very good with numbers, she though it might have been a good idea to apply for the job as the professor of arithmancy.
