Hiromi Yen walked into Professor Grimp's room with a sour look on her face. Hiromi was definitely not above causing trouble, but she still felt that serving Detention was beneath her. Professor Grimp could care less about her ego and her connection to some cursed Japanese vampire prince. She talked back to him in class, and said some rather cold things about the Ministry. Being a retired Auror who damn near lost his leg (and his life a few times) for the Ministry, Grimp was highly insulted and gave her Detention for three days. Walking in, her cold eyes met with his even colder ones, and she felt the chill. She quickly looked away from him and seated herself.
She felt she sat far enough away that the man couldn't hear her, so she grumbled as she opened her Defense Against The Dark Arts book and began doing her homework.
"Foolish old man," she muttered. "Has to get all dodgy just because someone's opinion about the high and mighty Ministry of Magic isn't his. Thinks he's the authority on the Dark Arts just because he was an Auror and caught a few dark wizards and witches in his prime."
"A few?" whispered a Second year Gryffindor near him. "Some of the worst wizards and witches are in Azkaban because of him." Hiromi gave the boy a sour look.
"I didn't ask you for your opinion, did I, you little hobgoblin," she said. "Mind your own bloody business." She looked up to see that Grimp was reading something and seemingly didn't hear her. Definitely a good thing.

Glancing at the grandfather clock in her common room, Kat realized she was going to be late for detention. She'd only had detention two other times in her life, but this was her first at Hogwarts. She wasn't really sure what to expect, but she grabbed a notebook and a quill just in case there would be something as elementary as lines. She was sour about the whole ordeal, but she couldn't deny that it was her own doing that landed her in detention.
She'd been out with her best friend Sloan a bit too late, and their usual plans to sneak back in hadn't worked this time around. Sloan had gotten away scotch-free, but Kat had come back into the castle only to be face to face with the caretaker. Whoops. She was usually pretty good about talking herself out of these sorts of situations, but she was one drink over tipsy and she had a sneaking suspicion that the stench of alcohol on her breath was a dead giveaway.
She strolled into the detention hall, a coffee spiked with Bailey's in her hand. If this detention was going to be at all bearable, she'd have to find someone to sit with. So far the pickings were slim - a couple scrawny low years, a greasy looking Hufflepuff, and then there was a Ravenclaw she had seen around a few times before. She didn't know much about her, but Kat decided she was the best bet.
She tossed her notebook onto the desk next to her, and sat down. "So, what's the deal with Grimp?" she asked the girl. "How unbearable is he going to make this?"

Hiromi looked over at the girl who decided to sit next to her. It was a Slytherin, which wasn't a bad thing. Hiromi despised Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs. They were mostly goody-goods and losers. She saw Ravenclaws as the superior House, but she had to admit that Slytherins were just under them. She appreciated their cunning and ambition, even if they lacked the intellect of a Ravenclaw.
She smirked at the girl as she wrote out an answer to a question.
"I thought you Slytherins loved the man," she said. "He is the Head of your House after all. As for just how unbearable he's going to make this for you, I don't know, but I've got three days of this with him. It's going to be a bloody nightmare. And all because I said the Ministry was poorly ran. They have a coward for a Minister and a bloody celebrity as Head Auror. Everyone loves Harry Potter. What has he done for anyone since the Battle of Hogwarts, and even then it wasn't just him. Everyone acts like he defeated You Know Who all by his bloody self. Bloody hero worship. Almost as bad as being fans of a ridiculous sport like Quidditch."
Hiromi looked up to see the Gryffindor staring at her again.
"Say one more thing to me and I'll turn you into a toad," she said. Hiromi took little issue with verbally bullying those younger and weaker than yes. The boy turned back around and returned to his work. Hiromi looked at Grimp again. He was still reading.

Kat had to admit she wasn't the best when it came to attention span. This was the third year after her transfer to Hogwarts, and she still didn't have all the professors straight. She of course had seen Grimp (which she more affectionately referred to as either Gimp, or Grump) around before, but she'd been lucky enough to have avoided a class with him. Even though he was her Head, that didn't stop her from zoning out when he lectured the Slytherins. Whatever he had to say was boring, and she didn't waste her time dealing with adult stuff.
She opened her mouth to reply, but then she noticed that the girl was already on a rant about the ministry. More boring adult stuff. She nodded along anyway, and took a sip of her coffee. Get the Bailey's in her and the detention would fly by. "I don't really keep track of Harry Potter," she said honestly. "So I guess that's one more person who doesn't think he's all that big of a deal..." Honestly all of that drama had happened before she was born, she didn't know why people still cared so much. What she wanted to know was when the next dark uprising was going to happen. That she could get into. She took another sip of her spiked drink, jiggling the leg that was crossed over the other. "So what's all that bad about quidditch? If there's enough built boys on any given team, I think any girl could find it bearable."

Hiromi watched as the girl sipped her coffee and decided it was time for a drink too. She sneaked up her flask, which was filled with some human blood she had swiped from a professor who ordered it from a Muggle blood bank for classes. She didn't need blood to survive, but as a half-vampire, she craved the hell out of it in stressful situations. It to her was like a cigarette to others. She took a swig and closed the flask again.
"Nobody follows what he does anymore, aside from all his stupid relatives, like the five hundred Potters and Weasleys who attend here," she said. She didn't care for any of them, not even Albus Potter and Lucy Weasley, who were both in Slytherin. To her, they were all loved and respected by the students simply because of who they were related to.
Hiromi then rolled her eyes when Katelle spoke of Quidditch and all the cute boys. Her recent run-in with Alec soured her when it came to boys, so this wasn't what she wanted to hear.
"Yes, a bunch of cute boys... cute, barbaric boys," she said. "I mean, sure I wouldn't mind snogging with a few of them, but that would be all there was to it. The rest of the time, you'd have to sit there and listen to them talk about that damned sport. It would drive me bloody mad!" Her voice rose at this and she quickly checked to see if Grimp heard her. The old man was still reading. Hiromi sipped her flask and went back to work for a moment.

Kat watched as Hiromi pulled a flask out of seemingly nowhere, and she was going to ask if she could have some. The Bailey's just wasn't hitting her strong enough yet. But then she noticed the dark red on Hiromi's lips before she licked and swallowed. What? Kat couldn't help but stare for a moment, but then she gathered herself again, trying to ignore what she just saw.
She had noticed the abundance of offspring from the famous previous generation. She'd met a few of them, and partied with others, but she'd always thought it a bit odd that they were all related. It was like there were no good dating choices unless you wanted a Potter or a Weasley. "I'm glad I don't hang out with them," she said. "With the size of them, they must know all the secrets of this place." Kat liked to keep her secrets, well, secret.
She took another sip of her coffee, swirling it around in her mouth to see if there was actually any alcohol in it, because she wasn't tasting it. Yeah, it was there alright. She took a bigger gulp, and hoped for at least a buzz. "Well, that's a classic mistake," she told Hiromi. "You don't let them talk to you. You shove your tongue down their throat before they get a chance, and leave when you're done. That's the thing with barbaric boys, you don't have to pretend to have manners. They're happy to be used."

Hiromi shook her head as Katelle added her thoughts about the Potters and Weasleys. That didn't mean she disagreed with the girl. She agreed with her a great deal on them. In fact, shew as beginning to like this girl's style.
"Well, they're nothing special, and they'd be stupid to cross me," she said. "I study my spells well and I know a trick or two to..." She looked to see the Second Year staring at her again. She was so tempted to use a spell on the boy right then and there, but it would cost her more time in Detention. "Look, you little Gryffin-dork, you'd better be worried about watching your own back from now on than looking at me." The boy turned away again.
When Katelle talked about using muscle-headed Quidditch players to one's advantage, Hiromi grinned. Yes, she liked this one a lot. Such a deliciously devious mind.
"You know something- you're alright," she said. "By the way, my name's Hiromi Doji Yen." She always included the "middle name" that she wasn't born with. It was a name she used with honor, the name of her princely vampire father. "I suppose if I found one of those Quidditch Players that I could fancy enough for a snog, I'd see what I could do with him. Maybe a Hufflepuff. Hufflepuff's a practically mindless, thinking hard work makes up for a lack of intelligence. But then again, I admit I have seen a few Ravenclaw and Slytherin players I wouldn't mind having in my corner... and in an empty broom closet."
Hiromi was a bit startled when Grimp made a sound, but it was just him clearing his throat before he took a sip of water.

Kat raised her eyebrows, and nodded. "Alright, I guess I better not cross you either." She wasn't good with her schoolwork, or her spells, but she wasn't going to admit that to a Ravenclaw. Even if Hiromi did seem like a likely ally, she would never want to give her a leg up. Kat uncrossed and recrossed her legs, taking another sip of spiked coffee. She was observing the way Hiromi was dealing with the eavesdropping underling. She admired Hiromi's attempts but Kat usually got her intent across with just a look. She always chose her words wisely, and had learned not run her mouth lest she say too much. Besides, there were few people that could handle what she really thought.
And anyway, if the little boy wanted to listen to what they had to say, that was just fine. The best he could use the information for was to spread it around to his little friends and really, she didn't mind the publicity. Next thing, Hiromi was introducing herself. Kat figured Hiromi would already know who she was, but she'd only been at the school three years, and there were a lot of students. Still, Kat stood out. "Katelle Moore," she interjected, before Hiromi could continue her thought. Kat had to agree with her though, Hufflepuffs were useless. She'd heard they were 'particularly good finders'. Yeah, well maybe they could find a backbone, and maybe some dignity along the way. She'd never met a Hufflepuff she liked.
"I don't have time for anyone who isn't a Ravenclaw or a Slytherin," she told Hiromi. She started to focus on her nail beds. "The only use of a Hufflepuff is a snog, and Gryffindors can just keep living in their fantasy world. Their heads are too far in the clouds to know what's really important." She shot a glance at the younger Gryffindor boy, seeing that she'd caught his attention. Her raised an eyebrow at him, and quickly turned back around. It was true though. Gryffindors spent all their time trying to bring peace and boredom back to the world, while Slytherins continued to succeed in changing it for a greater purpose. A Ravenclaw brain here and there secured their future superiority.

Hiromi wasn't trying to make war with anyone. If she never spoke to a Potter or Weasley, she would be happy. It was simply that she had such an enormous ego and she did not like that challenged by anyone. Part of this came from the fact that Hiromi could back a lot of her words up. She was attractive, she was popular, and she was very intelligent. Her study skills were also incredible sharp. Her knowledge of spells were good enough that she could hold her own in a duel if she needed to. To have a Potter, a Weasley, or anyone claim they had superiority over her was something she did not blow off.
"Well, you haven't so far, so I wouldn't worry at the moment," she said.
Hiromi simply nodded when Katelle told the Ravenclaw her name.
When Katelle went on to talk about what she thought of each of the four Houses, Hiromi smirked. This girl was right up her alley. She had all those qualities that made a Slytherin great. Katelle was no doubt superior in her House as Hiromi was in hers. Katelle could be a tremendous asset as a friend. Though Katelle was in her Seventh Year and probably leaving Hogwarts in a few months, she and Hiromi could prove to be a strong social force at Hogwarts.
"I'd never snog a Hufflepuff," she said. "But aside from that, I agree with you. Katelle, I think some time you and I need to have a proper talk. I know of a few good meeting places."

Kat seriously doubted Hiromi could ever pose a real threat to her, but she humored her with an attempt at a grateful smile. Kat wasn't ever grateful, so her facial expression wasn't very convincing, but at least she was trying. If she wanted to make nice with this girl, she'd have to at least pretend to be... what was the word? Relatable. She shuddered at the thought. She hated being 'relatable'. She wanted to be her own person, unique from anybody else, the topic of everybody's gossip and pointed glares. As far as she was concerned, the only person she could be open with was Sloan.
"You should give one a try sometimes," she said, referring to the Hufflepuffs. Finally, finally, she was beginning to feel the alcohol. She always knew how to keep a level head when she had alcohol in her. As long as Mr. Grump didn't catch her, but so far he was being his usual ignorant, unobservant self. Why did the school even need teachers? Students basically ran the place themselves. Kat held in a giggle - Prof. Grumpy Pants was actually quite funny to her at the moment, though she couldn't explain why. At the mention of places to catch up, Kat raised a brow. Slytherins had their secret hangouts, Ravenclaws had theirs, and everybody partied in the Room of Requirement. She wondered what places Hiromi could show her. Kat was always interested in new places to chill.
"Hey, as long as you're providing the alcohol, I'm game," Kat told her. She was always much more agreeable under the influence. And at the moment Hiromi seemed to be approving of her, so she could relax her stiff spine for a moment.

(Since I play him as well, figured I'd use Grimp's account instead of having him speak under Hiromi's, so you can go again after this.)
Professor Grimp had been sitting there, reading the newspaper. As usual, dark wizards and witches were up to no good here and there, and people were turning up dead in Knockturn Alley. Oh how he missed his Auror days. To go out and investigate again. To track down the wicked in their lairs and perform a few choice cursed to catch and apprehend them. Those were indeed the good ole days. Hell, if he didn't need the money for himself and his now late wife, he would have done it for free.
Still, he was only halfway paying attention to the paper. Even at his age, his Auror's ear could hear every word spoken in the room. But for those particularly mischievous, he loved to fool, them into thinking he was not paying attention. Finally, he rose, grabbed his cane and limped over toward Hiromi and Katelle. At first, he looked as if he wasn't actually stepping over to speak to them, but then his head made a sudden sharp turn.
"I do hope both of you are patient because you, Fraulein Yen, have earned three more days detention for threatening to use magic on Herr Smedley here, and you, Fraulein Moore, have earned likewise for suggesting that Fraulein Yen brings strong spirits into this school. And furthermore, five points will be deducted from each of your Houses." Grimp then looked at his pocket watch. "As for right now, detention for today is over. For those of you who no longer require detention after today, I strongly suggest you avoid being punished with it in the future by respecting each other and your superiors. Guten Abend."
And with that, Grimp made his way to his office.
(We can continue chatting outside as Hiromi and Katelle)

She couldn't really put her finger on why, but Kat had never gotten along with adults. This one, in particular, was starting to really annoy her. It seemed as if he liked to get off on making his students feel like crap, just because he'd gotten old and couldn't do the same things they could anymore. Because, seriously? Three more detentions for the suggestion of alcohol? This guy really had some issues he needed to work on.
Kat rolled her eyes and stood up. Either way, she was happy she hadn't gotten stuck doing lines, or cleaning anything. Her poor manicure probably wouldn't have survived. She walked out with Hiromi, completely ignoring the old geezer. "Well that was uncalled for," she muttered towards Hiromi. She took a long swig of her coffee before finishing it, and tucked the cup into her bag. Her back felt stiff, and her butt was definitely asleep. After sitting down for so long and pumping her system with coffee, she felt that it was time for a workout. "Let's get in touch. We can put together a time to properly chat," she told her Hiromi, and flicked her hair off of her shoulder.

(I can wrap it up with this one, and we can meet somewhere in Hogsmeade if you like. Sloan can join in two if you two would like, make a wicked trio.)
Hiromi was fuming. She took a sip of blood from her flask, but even that wouldn't calm her down. How dare Grimp give her three more days of detention, and for what- wanting a little Gryffindor brat to leaver her alone. Why didn't he get more days for not minding his own damn business? And it wasn't like she actually DID anything to him.
"You're bloody right it was uncalled for," said Hiromi. "Condemning us before the fact. I doubt even Aurors are permitted to do that with the dark wizards hunt down. How do you Slytherins stand him? At least my Head of House is tolerable."
Hiromi closed her eyes and calmed down. She had to focus on the positive that came out of this situation. Katelle was bloody wicked... and wonderful. Like Hiromi, she spoke her mind, and like Hiromi, she had a mean streak. Hiromi had enough of people trying to befriend her because she was attractive and popular. She didn't want more people groveling at her feet. She wanted a friend at her side, someone she could call an equal. Katelle could be it. She turned and gave a wicked smirk.
"We must indeed meet, but not here," she said. "What about Hogsmeade... somewhere there where we can have a bit of privacy."
She knew of a few places, but she figured they could meet in the village and decide from there.
(End Thread)
