HISTORY: James was born 16 years ago on a cold night, his mother - Amanda Miles, died giving birth to him and as such, his father Desmond Miles was devastated. Thought he had a rather happy childhood, James was quite lonely - his father was always working, he was carried for mostly by nannies and had absolutely no friends or siblings, he grew up a bit anti-social. That might have been one of the main reasons that he become incredibly friendly to people in his later years, with a longing to fit in and make friends of people, he thought that being nice to everyone would have been the best approach for making friends.
He had a rather uneventful and safe childhood, his father, a ministry worker earned a meager, yet sustainable income to support his son. He had toys, books and other things you would say a child needed and he couldn't complain in any way about being mistreated or abused, his father cared for him a lot and wanted to provide his son with a nice, normal childhood, that he feared his son may never have due to the early death of his mother. more or less, his father succeeded, James has very little to complain about of his early childhood, even though he doesn't remember much about it - he knows that he never went cold or hungry.
a lot changed however as the years went on. James' father struggled with depression for many years after his wife's death, even to this day James recalls the several occasions he stumbled upon his father quietly crying alone in his room. The very unhappy mood of his father shaped the young boy's personality greatly, disliking the whole gloom of his everyday life, James became every happy go lucky to hide the almost natural state of sadness he felt developed in his life and while his father tried to instil an almost unhealthy dose of pessimism in his life, James grew more and more optimistic, as if to counter his fathers sadness in his contrarian attitude. Despite his optimism, James can be often heard using pessimisic and ironic remarks about any situation he's in, even if he believes the opposite inside. though his father failed to make a pessimist out of his son, one of the lesson's young James kept to heart was his father insistance that there is nothing more important for a man than working hard.
Hardwork was the bread and butter of any person who wanted to make something of himself. His father told him that it didn't matter what the job was, James was ALWAYS supposed to give it a hundred and twenty per cent. It was something that was expected from him and the young boy, who wanted nothing more than to make his father proud of him - became a hardworker, who didn't know the meaning of the word "break". His father was a good man who tried to instill good values into his son, despite his own personal emotional problems that he never managed to resolve.
When James turned 10, he was greeted by same grave news, his father Desmond commited suicide at the ministry, he did it at work presumably because he didn't want his son to find his body. Two ministry workers came to his house to break the news for him, after an hour of consoling and crying, James had to pack up his stuff and he was taken to a foster home for oprhanaged wizards, where he would reside from then on. His former home was sold and James inherited his father's bank account and assets, amassing to a very nice sum, especially for a 10 year old boy, who, according to his father's last will and testament, would be able to access the funds after he begins attending Hogwarts.
That didn't take long, however, a short year later, James received a letter of acceptance to the Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardy. He of course knew about magic and about Hogwarts at this point in his life, it being no secret to him due to the environment he grew up in and was insanely excited and anxious about finally getting to go to the school. His first year passed decently, though not as ideally as one would hope.Sorted into the house of Hufflepuff by the sorting had, His anti-social tendencies made it hard for him to make friends, he wasn't really that great at his classes either, even though he seemed to be a very powerful wizard, his spells would often be over the top and not precise enough, causing explosions, blasts and other varying degrees of misfires.
Despite all of that, he managed to "successfully" pass his first year at Hogwart. His second year came almost instantly, the same cycle started repeating, he was failing classes, he wasn't making friends and teachers disliked him for his constant failures, so to become liked, James started doing pranks and jumping out, talking back to his teachers and doing all types of crazy shenanigans just to get attention from his peers. For some reason, this helped him vent and develop the social skills to introduce his optimism and friendliness to the kids around him, helping him for friendships and relationships with people from his house and year.
His grades didn't start improving until his third year, until he became more concentrated. The reason for this newfound focus was due to the fact that while on summer break from hogwarts, he cast a hex on another young wizard, who mocked his dead parents. forcing the wizengamot to put the young man trial. Though his crime was forgiven, he was given a very strict warning and one of the wizengamot wizards later approached him and told him that his father would be very disappointed in him and that he should take himself and his future more seriously if he wants to make something of himself. This was probably the point in his life where James became obsessed with greatness, from that day onward he wanted to be "the greatest of all time" in at least something.
He started taking his studies very seriously, so much so that he would spend entire days locked in his room reading books about magic and everything that was even remotely related. After he started his third year, his grades skyrocketed, though he was already so immersed into pranking and arguing with his teachers, that it had beocme a force of habit that he never managed to shake. He aced his third year and continued to do so in his fourth year, during which he started to become interested in becoming an animagus and started researching the subject very seriously. Now going into his fifth year, James feels like he's finally become a man his father would be proud of, but hasn't even come close to losing his dreams.
