Ollie listened carefully when Isolde told him about Dathan Burke. Ollie had never heard of the guy, but he knew that Knockturn Alley was a shady area. She sounded really concerned about Morgaine, and Ollie really could understand why. "That sounds... really intense. Does she know about the bad stuff?" he asked as he hugged Isolde. Ollie couldn't tell from what Isolde was saying whether Morgaine had no idea about the dark stuff, or if she was getting involved in it. Either way, it didn't seem like a good situation at all. "Have you tried to talk to her about it?" he asked.

Isolde just sat there in Ollie's arms for a moment as he asked her the questions. Aside from the obvious difference that Ollie was a guy, it felt like when Morgaine held her whenever she was said. She sobbed a little and then tried to talk again.
"I don't know," she said. "I don't know if she does. But she would have to know. Knockturn Alley is an evil place. Why would she want to stay in an evil place with an evil man?" Isolde wanted to believe that Dathan was manipulating her, but Morgaine was too smart for that. Morgaine was the smartest woman she knew. And that scared her so much.
Isolde drew back and nodded when Ollie asked if she had tried to talk to Morgaine about it.
"Morgaine said he's a good friend and she cares about him, and that they are just doing business together," she said. "I just don't want her to be there with him, Ollie. I just want her to be here with me. So she and I could be happy together." She then embraced Ollie again, sobbing. "I just want to be happy, Ollie, and for my sister to be okay. She and my other sister Nimue are all I have... besides you."

He nodded gravely. It was true, it was pretty obvious that Knockturn Alley was an evil place. "Yeah, you're right. It does seem a bit dodgy. I can understand why you're worried about her," he said understandingly. It would be pretty scary having your sister involved in that kind of stuff. He couldn't imagine how he would feel if he found out that Julian or Emma were involved in anything like that. "Just doing business together... have you told her what you think of Knockturn Alley, and how you don't want her to get involved in anything bad? Maybe if she hears that from you, and sees how worried you are, it might change her mind?" he suggested hopefully. He felt like he would be there to look after Isolde if she needed it, but it was important that her big sister was there for her too, and not getting involved in the wrong things. He wanted Isolde to be protected from that kind of stuff, not exposed to it.

Isolde nodded when Ollie asked if she had discussed all those things with Morgaine. Of course she had, but given how Isolde found it hard to verbally express herself, even in front of friends and family, she didn't know if it helped any.
"Yes, but she wants to be there with him," said Isolde. "She likes him very much. I can't say anything to change her mind."
Finally Isolde broke the embrace and wiped her tears with a napkin.
"Thank you for listening to me, Ollie," she said, which was a polite way of letting Ollie know she didn't want to talk about it anymore. She wanted Ollie's visit to be a happy one, and she wasn't helping. She managed another smile at him as she had an idea.
"Want to walk with me in the village?" she asked softly. "Or maybe see the garden? Cain is there." She had wanted to show him around the garden. Morgaine kept it so pretty and well tended, and Isolde had added some flowers that she bought at the Magic Neep. She found gardening made her happy too. Really, anything that kept her mind off of what was going on with her sister made her happy.

Ollie frowned. It must have been so hard for Isolde having her sister wanting to be with a guy who was involved in dark things. "Well, you should keep trying. If she really sees how important it is to you, maybe she will reconsider," he suggested hopefully. It was a hard situation, but he could see how much it meant to Isolde, and he hoped that Morgaine would see the same.
"You're welcome. I'm happy to talk anytime you want to," he said comfortingly. He understood that this meant she was done talking about it, and that was okay. At least he had been able to hear her out when she opened up to him, which he was pleased about.
At the choice she gave him, he decided on the garden. "I think the garden would be really nice," he replied. "I'd love to meet Cain." And it would be nice to see something that Isolde seemed to care about, and she seemed quite keen to show him the garden. Gardens were nice and relaxing, so he thought he would enjoy it quite a lot.

Isolde sighed and nodded. Ollie was right. She had to keep trying to convince Morgaine that she was making a mistake. It was just so difficult. She didn't want to hurt her sister. She would hate herself if she upset Morgaine.
"I'll try," she said.
When Ollie said he would like to meet Cain, Isolde covered her mouth and hid a laugh.
"You already met him, remember?" she said. "At Hogwarts." She the smiled and took Ollie's arm to lead him out to the garden. The great grey owl was still standing on the gate, and turned his head when the two walked out.
"Most of these plants are Morgaine's," she said. "But I planted those flowers there. Watch out for the plants there. They're poisonous and I think some bite or sting." She pointed around of course as she spoke of them.
Isolde loved the garden and was finally glad to show it to someone.
"My sister uses a lot of these plants for her business," she said. "Some of them might even be rare. She does well with her business because she sells things for Alchemists that many other people don't have. I'm glad I can help her grow them now."

Ollie rolled his eyes a little and laughed. "Yeah, that's true. But I haven't met him in his natural habitat. I'm sure it would be much more comfortable for him down here where he can be outside more, rather than up in the castle," he reasoned.
As she pointed out the plants that were poisonous, he looked at them curiously. "Why do you have those ones here?" he asked curiously. "Does Morgaine use them for something?" he asked. Maybe there was some purpose for her business or something. Other than that, it didn't seem like the kind of thing that would make sense to have in a typical garden. Ah, but then it turned out she explained that in the next paragraph. "Oh, okay, cool. I guess if you sell things that a lot of other people don't have, it would go for more," he reasoned. "So how badly poisonous are they?" he asked curiously. Not that he was going to go near them, he was just curious.

Isolde wasn't sure what Morgaine used the poisonous ones for. Her sister had never really told her. But Isolde was sure they were used for a good purpose. Well, she at least tried to convince herself they were used for that. She couldn't see Morgaine as someone who would try to hurt someone with them.
"I don't know," she said to Ollie. "I sure she uses them wisely."
Isolde nodded when Ollie spoke of Morgaine selling the rare items.
"Morgaine makes a lot of money," she said. "She gave me some, and my parents send me some because they're happy that I'm here now and not at home." Isolde sighed a bit at that, though she wasn't sad. She was glad she wasn't back home in London as well.
When Ollie asked how poisonous the plants were, Isolde shook her head.
"I'm not sure," she said. "But I was warned to keep my distance from them, so they must be pretty bad. Maybe Morgaine uses them for potions that cure poisoning. I read somewhere that Muggles do that with snake venom. I'm not sure how it works though."
Isolde then smiled when they got to where Cain was. She pet him and looked at Ollie.
"You can pet him too," she said. "He's very gentle."

Ollie nodded. If Isolde trusted Morgaine, then he would as well. He just hoped that that Dathan guy wasn't too much of a bad influence on her, because he would hate if Morgaine hurt Isolde. That would be such a crushing blow for her, and he knew he would have to be there for Isolde if that happened.
"It's good that she and your parents send you some. How are you finding living away from your parents?" he asked her curiously. He still lived at home when he wasn't at Hogwarts, and he couldn't imagine moving out yet. It would be quite a big change, he expected.
Ollie had read about how they came up with antidotes for snake poison, so he nodded in agreement. "Yeah, they do. I guess it might be something along the same lines," he agreed, as he petted Cain when they got to him. "He seems to like me a bit more this time," he noted, as the owl seemed more comfortable with him after meeting him once before.

Isolde sighed when Ollie asked about living away from her parents. She really didn't want to go into her life with them to him. She wanted Ollie's visit to be a happy one, but it always seemed like the weight of the world was on her shoulders. Few like Ollie made her smile and be happy. So she decided to be positive about her answer.
"It's nice living here," she said with a small smile. "I'm glad Morgaine trusts me with the place. And it's very pretty here. Cain likes it better too I think, being away from the crowded city."
She smiled when Ollie pet Cain and the owl stood there and trustingly let him. She had no natural affinity for the owl, but she felt Cain knew when someone was a friend of hers and someone wasn't. This was evident in her Third Year when someone picked on her and the owl chased the bully off. It scared Isolde as well. She had never seen Cain act like that. She did thank him for taking up for her later though.
"I think he knows you and he are friends now," she said. "Just like you're my friend... my best friend." She then walked over and hugged Ollie again.

Ollie could tell that she dodged the question a bit, but he figured there was a good reason for that so he didn't push her on it. "Yeah, I guess it would be a bit more relaxing," he agreed with a smile. "You used to be in London, right?"
He was glad that Cain was adjusting to him, it was like a symbol of him being trusted to hang out with Isolde. When she said he was her best friend, he returned the hug warmly, smiling at her. He was very glad they had gotten to know each other, and he found he really valued Isolde and enjoyed hanging out with her. "I'm glad we've become friends," he told her happily. "It's always nice to have people close to you that you can rely on."

Isolde nodded about London, again trying to put back memories about her parents. But there was of course no reason to hide that she lived in London.
"Yes, I lived there," she said. "In a nice place in the part were wizards and witches live. Well nice because all the houses are nice there. My family is very rich." She certainly didn't sound like she was boasting about that as some people would. She was just stating it as a fact. She would have been happy in a poor family if she had parents who were kind. Getting bought off did not make up for the lack of love from her mother and father.
But she didn't have to worry about that. She had love now... from Morgaine and Nimue, and from Ollie. These three made her very happy.
"I know I can rely on you, Ollie," said Isolde, still hugging him. Finally she broke the embrace and smiled at him, a glow now on her face. She loved Ollie with all her heart, again not in a romantic sense, but in the purest sense that one could love someone else. He had become just as a significant part of her life as her sisters did.
"Want to walk into the village and maybe get some lunch?" she asked. "I'm a little hungry."

It was very clear from Isolde's demeanour that she wasn't boasting about her parents richness. She was comfortable with what she had, and Ollie thought that she would be able to be comfortable with less as well, from what he knew of her. He liked that she was such a gentle and thoughtful person, and was glad that he could be there for her as a good friend. "It sounds like it would have been quite a nice area, at least," he replied. "But here is really nice too. I'm glad that you get on well enough with Morgaine that you two can live together."
It was a nice hug, very much not a romantic one, but just one between good friends, with him comforting her. He felt very protective of Isolde and would stand up for her if anyone came close to hurting her. "I think getting some lunch would be great. What do you feel like? We could go to that burger place?" he suggested. It was the first thing that had popped into his mind when he thought of food, but he wasn't sure if she would want the same thing. He was pretty easily satisfied so would go with whatever she wanted, really.

Isolde smiled when Ollie spoke of her being able to live with Morgaine. She of course thought this was wonderful. It was like a dream come true living where she did now.
"I love living here with Morgaine," she said. "It's all I've ever wished for. And I'm glad you are able to visit here. I'm going to see if the school will let me live here while we have classes. But if not, I can still come and take care of it, and Morgaine will be here too. Maybe you can met her when she comes. I'm sure she'd like you too." She was sure Morgaine would once she and Ollie spoke to one another. Who couldn't like Ollie?
A burger sounded good. Isolde liked a good burger and chips with the cold version of butterbeer. She smiled and nodded to Ollie.
"I'd like that," she said.
As they walked into the village from the house, an old man smoking a pipe spotted her.
"You're the girl livin' in that wily witch Morgaine's house, ain't ye?" he said. "Her sister, ain't ye? As if one of ye weren't enough to put a dark cloud on this village again." Isolde just stared at the man confused. How could he talk about Morgaine like that?

Ollie looked at her curiously when she said she wanted to live here during school. "That would be interesting. Do you think they'd let you do that? It would be cool but I think it would feel kind of detached from the rest of the students too," he reasoned. Because of that he thought that he would want to stay at the castle even if he had an opportunity to stay somewhere else for his final year. But it made sense for Isolde in some ways, because she was looking after the house, and also because she tended to distance herself from people a bit anyway. "Yeah, it would be cool to meet her sometime. You'll have to let me know when she's back and I can come down again."
When the old man started being rude to Isolde, Ollie stepped in front of her. "Hey, you have no right to say those things to her. You keep your prejudice to yourself," he replied angrily, ushering Isolde away. He didn't know what that was about, but he wasn't going to let anyone speak to her like that.
