HISTORY: Jens Helstrom was born the eldest child of Martin and Maja Helstrom in Denmark. His father Martin was Captain and star Keeper on the Nordic National Quidditch Team, and passed down this love of Quidditch to both of his children, Jens and Sofie. Jens basically grew up on a broom, and was flying before he could walk (on a specially-made child's broom, of course).
They were a very loving family, and Jens and Sofie grew up with little complications in their childhood. The whole family would go to all of Martin's Quidditch games, and would be cheering constantly from the stands. Martin was one of the best Keepers in the world in his prime, and was quite well known. Neverless, this didn't change the way he raised his family, as he kept very well grounded, not letting the fame go to his head.
When Jens turned eleven and received his letter of acceptance into Hogwarts, he was very excited to go. He was sorted into Gryffindor, and by late in his second year had been accepted onto the house Quidditch team - quite early for a student to earn a place on the team. He had proven himself as gifted on a broom, and earned the position of Chaser. By his fifth year he was Captain of the team, and led the team to a Quidditch Cup victory in his sixth and seventh years. He became quite popular around the school due to his Quidditch success, and by the time he graduated from Hogwarts, he was offered a reserve position on the Nordic National Quidditch Team, following in the footsteps of his father Martin.
Jens' surname created quite a buzz now that he was signed up for the Nordic team, due to the reputation that his father had. He played a different position, of course - Chaser compared to his father being a Keeper - but his natural talent for the game couldn't be denied. It didn't take him long to move from a reserve position to be starting on the field, and he became a household name in Nordic circles. However, the day before his twenty-first birthday, he was playing a Quidditch match against England and was hit by an English Chaser who had been hit by a bludger and knocked unconscious - this collision caused both players to fall from their brooms and Jens ended up with a broken leg, arm, and collarbone. While the broken bones were able to be repaired magically, he is still in rehabilitation from the injuries and has yet to gain enough strength back to play Quidditch competitively.
This was a very hard realisation for Jens, as he thrived on the competitiveness of Quidditch at the national level. In the meantime, though, he took up the position of Flying professor at Hogwarts for the start of the 2023-2024 year to earn some money in the meantime while he recovers from his injuries. A lot of the students who follow Quidditch would be excited to have him at the school, but the ones who don't follow Quidditch would have no idea who he is. He longs for the time when he will have enough strength back in his body to be able to return to playing competitive Quidditch again. He does love teaching, though, and giving students the chance to get involved with flying and Quidditch - and he very much lets his passion for the game be known by his students as he encourages them to get involved.
