Arabella’s various confliciting traits make her a bundle of contradictions. The rapidly changing elements of her personality make Bella a difficult person to read and sometimes a difficult person to be around. Essentially Arabella is an insecure person, eternally concerned with outward appearances and how others may see her, making Arabella appear somewhat supercilious upon first impressions. To those who don’t know her well Bella can come across as harsh and callous. Quick witted with a sharp tongue, Arabella is never afraid to let others know exactly what she thinks of them.
Although her exterior is harsh and sometimes off-putting, deep below she has a softness and sensitivity few know. To her close friends however, Arabella is compassionate and caring, loyal and overly protective to those she loves. Arabella’s main priority in her life is her daughter, for whom she’d do anything for. She also has a very strong jealous streak and dislikes sharing the affections of those she truly cares about.
Arabella suffers from very sharp mood swings which are even more influenced by those around her. It does not usually take much to incite and sharp or bitter response even if up until that point she had been perfectly amenable. Conversely, if she has been put in to a foul mood she will not always take it out on those around her, and instead lavish her affections upon one person while ignoring all others for a time.
Fairly materialistic, Arabella’s opinions on others are usually formed over what they wear or where they dwell, rather than the calibre of their personality. As a teenager Arabella was fiercely known for her haughty and boastful temperament, and while this factor of her personality has been toned down as she has aged, there is still a part of her who will always remain a stuck up little girl, wishing to own the finest things and still always interested in what other people can give to her.
If one is able to see past such strong and sometimes negative traits, it’s easy to see that Arabella possesses a natural grace and appeal that can be rather intriguing. She is an intelligent person with a sharp wit and a dry sense of humour, all of which often helps her when she is thrown into large group situations, or when meeting new people for the first time.

HISTORY: Arabella Imogen De Vitis, is the fifth child to Italian pureblood mogul Antonio Aldo De Vitis, and Alicia Ines Bealieu, a half Veela and daughter of a French wand maker. Antonio De Vitis was born in Siciliy, an only child and heir to the De Vitis Cauldron Co. – a cauldron manufacturing company which supplied the majority of the central Mediterranean with cauldrons and related supplies. Alicia and Antonio met when Alicia was 23 and Antonio 33 in Corsica, France, where Antonio was working at the time. Alicia was a beautiful, flighty young woman. Her Veela mother had died when Alicia was just eight, leaving her hardworking father to solely raise the young woman. Alicia’s father was a famed wandmaker, being one of the few prepared to use veela hair in his cores.
Alicia was a Beauxbatons graduate, and an adept dancer who lacked ambition and the desire to work hard. Antonio was completely enamoured when he met Alicia, the young woman’s Veela charms sent him to distraction and the pair were married by the summer, their eldest son Luca following soon after. The couple moved to Royan, where Antonio worked to bring the family business to the South West of France. In their new home, Alicia gave birth to the couples other children Pasquale, Francesca, and fraternal twins Giovanni and Arabella, Arabella being the youngest of the family (albeit by eight minutes).
Antonio was much like his father, careful with his money, with strong business acumen – something he endeavoured to pass down to his three sons. His two daughters however, were treated much like their mother – both were lavished with gifts and pretty trinkets, and never expected to work at anything much.
Alicia and Antonio seemed happy for the first years of their marriage. They had healthy, well rounded children, were well known amongst their peers in the Wizarding community in France, and had at the time a fairly lucrative business. When Arabella and her brother Vanni headed to Beauxbatons Academie to join their siblings, the first signs of cracks in Antonio and Alicia’s relationship became visible. Profits of De Vitis Cauldron Co. declined in the ten years following the Battle of Hogwarts, finding the family’s long history of working closely with the Dark Magic community now frowned upon in this new era of the Magical World. As Antonio’s father became ill, and business in France became unstable, the family moved back to Sicily during Bella’s first year at school, and lived within the family complex by the sea.
While her husband greatly enjoyed being back in his family fold, and their children thrived in Italy, enjoying meeting the extended family they had only seen on yearly vacations, Alicia was homesick. Since having children, Alicia never had really taken to motherhood. She missed the extended trips and fancy things her husband used to buy her, and found herself jealous of her children, especially her two daughters.
During Arabella’s second year in Beauxbatons, her older sister Fran received word from home that her Mother had left, rather glibly apologising to her husband and children by means of a piece of parchment on the bed side table, in which she promised to send word soon. Antonio was shocked, and if it had not been for the help of his extended family things may not have worked out as well for his children as they did. Unsurprisingly, the five De Vitis children did not take their mother’s abandonment too badly, their emotions easily won over by various different promises at the time (and, as Bella fondly remembers, horse riding lessons).
Arabella thrived in Beauxbatons. She was fairly popular, and within decent social standing amongst her peers. It could be said, however, that her sharp tongue and derisive comments were many a reason she held up so well in school, or at least that was the impression given to her. She was an avid Quidditch player, playing position of chaser throughout her school years. She also excelled in potion making, the strong family history in the subject perhaps running through her veins. She graduated the Academy with strong grades in Potion Making and Charms, however barely scraped through the subject of Divination which the Academy so loved.
Arabella’s ambition had been to carry on in her father’s footsteps, expanding De Vitis Cauldren Co. further afield, and exploring new elements she could bring to the business. Bella had a great head for business at a young age, although lacked the discipline needed to manage such responsibility, reminding Antonio of his ex-wife.
During her years at Beauxbatons, Antonio had remarried to Carlotta De Rossi, a divorcee with no children. Antonio’s children got on well with Carlotta, finding her friendly, homely nature a welcome change to their mother’s sometimes aloof demeanour. During this time Alicia had also met someone new. She lived in England now, and was married to George Norman, yet another entrepreneur who had two children from his previous marriage, Marcus and Elisabeth. Alicia’s children from her first marriage had yet to meet her new husband and their step-siblings, and all seemed rather reluctant to do so too. In the years since Alicia left her family she had not made efforts to visit her children, instead sending the odd owl promising visits soon, as well as birthday and Christmas gifts.
Arabella continued to work for her father’s company as a sales advisor of sorts, contact business to see if they’d be interested in stocking lines from the new and improved De Vitis Cauldron Co. range. The job barely held her interest, but she was paid well (more so than she perhaps deserved) which kept her in the latest robes she desired, or fuelled her new interest in muggle clothing. All in all, Bella lived a comfortable life.
Things changed for her however when she turned twenty two, and she met Emilio D’Aldo for the first time. Emilio was a friend of her twin brother, Vanni. He was three years older than her, and his exotic dark looks and indifferent attitude towards everything had her enraptured from the first moment she met him.
Emilio and Bella started a whirlwind romance from that point, one which was often heated and very tumultuous. Emilio had a penchant for the darker things in life, and while Arabella did not necessarily approve of this, she did little to dissuade him from his interests. When at twenty three Arabella found she was pregnant, she was, to say the least, ecstatic. She found out however, that the father of her unborn child was less than thrilled.
Emilio begrudgingly invited Arabella to live with him during her pregnancy, not entirely looking forward to his impending fatherly duties. Bella was left to shop for baby clothes and furniture with her newly married sister, or even her brothers, barely getting a nod of approval over her latest purchase. Funded mainly by her father, Emilio would berate Arabella for wasted money over little baby booties in various colours, and would insist on her paying her share for rent and food – money which Bella found more often than not ended up funding the landlords of the local bar.
In the late Autumn Arabella gave birth to a daughter, Rosalba Giovanna D’Aldo. Rosalba’s father visited her once while she was in hospital, much to the chagrin of Arabella and her family. Upon arriving home, life became more miserable for Bella. While she bonded strongly with her little girl, and was fiercely protective of her, she found Emilio’s behaviour became more and more unbearable. He would drink heavily, and take his anger out on Arabella, more often than not screaming threats at her which increasingly became less and less empty. The breaking point for Arabella came when baby Rosa approached her first birthday. For some time, Arabella had her suspicions that Emilio had been seeing someone else, and these suspicions were confirmed two days before Rosalba’s birthday, when he unceremoniously told the two women in his life to leave.
Heartbroken, Arabella went back to her father’s home, desperate and lonely with only her daughter for comfort. It was at this point Bella received a letter from her mother, once again inviting her to visit her and her new family. Usually, such a letter would be met with derision by Arabella, however her current situation weighed heavily on her. While she needed the support of her family now she found herself alone with a young child, her surroundings did nothing to lift her spirits. After speaking with her father and mother, it was agreed that Arabella, Rosalba and Giovanni would visit England and their mother.
In preparation, Arabella changed her daughter’s last name to De Vitis, erasing all memory of the young girl’s father, and shortly before Rosa’s second birthday the trio went to England. The three stayed with Alicia for a few months, Alicia bonding with Rosalba in a way she never managed with her own children. While Giovanni longed to return to Italy, Arabella found she had settled somewhat in England. She found her sadness over Emilio had dissipated, and her step-family seemed amenable enough. Arabella contacted her father with this information and while at first he seemed unwilling to assist her in her new endeavour, after speaking with his ex-wife for some time they all came to some agreement.
Antonio found Arabella a two bedroom house in Hogsmeade, close to Alicia’s family home but far enough for Arabella’s liking. Antonio assisted Bella in paying for the upkeep for the house while she started her initial job search. Eventually Arabella found an opening for a Shopkeeper at Slug & Jiggers Apothecary in London, a job where her previous knowledge and experience with potions meant she was more than qualified. The job however was not her main passion, Arabella still desired to bring the De Vetis name forward, and wished to open her own store in England. It was work though, easy to commute to, and flexible enough for her childcare needs.
