HISTORY: Evie Croft was born as the third child to Alan and Christina Croft. Her older brother was born first, and then she was born as the second of two identical twins, the other being Phoebe.
Evie's father Alan was from a reasonably well-off pureblood family, and he attended Hogwarts and was sorted into Slytherin. His family were considered to be neutral, with no ties to dark forces, but Alan had quite a cold personality, and was ambitious and unafraid to step on people who got in his way. Christina MacDougal was a half-blood witch who wished she was a pureblood. She had an older sister who was pretty much the family's 'golden girl', who was the friendly, outgoing type who could barely put a foot wrong, while Christina was introverted, highly strung and ambitious, and was sorted into Slytherin. She grew to resent her older sister, and this was part of what attracted her to Alan - that he was from a powerful pureblood family, and was also ambitious, and well connected. She was two years behind him, and the two began a relationship halfway through Alan's final year at Hogwarts.
About a year after Christina graduated, she and Alan got married. When she was twenty they had a son, and a year later she gave birth to twin daughters, Phoebe and Evelyn. Alan and Christina were quite detached with the raising of their children, spending a lot of time going out to dinners and fancy events with their pureblood friends, and often leaving their children with Christina's older sister for babysitting. They seemed to be of the mind that they could spend time here and there with their children, but pass them off whenever they wanted some time to themselves. As a result of this, none of the children know their parents particularly well.
Evelyn and Phoebe grew up spending a lot of time together, being very close as twins tended to be. Phoebe showed signs of magic much earlier than Evelyn did; once Phoebe showed her magic, their parents put a lot of pressure on Evie to show her magic as well, mostly because they were very concerned that their daughter was a squib. Their concern here was mostly about the shame that that would bring on their family, rather than the repercussions it would have for Evie. This pressure distanced Evie from her parents quite a bit, and she eventually showed her magical ability at age 7, but by then a lot of the relationship damage had already been done.
Evie was still very close to her twin and her brother, though. Her parents preferred to call her Evelyn but by the time she was 8 she always chose to go by Evie whenever she met new people. When she and Phoebe received their letters to Hogwarts, they were both very excited and Evie couldn't wait to go to live at the school. She was sorted into Hufflepuff, to the disdain of her parents, while her sister was sorted into Slytherin. She has always felt like she is the less desired of the two twins by her parents, which sometimes creates some tension between her and Phoebe, but in general the two are very close, and are each other's best friends as well as twin sisters.
