Prologue...
Thaddeus Thorn was born to the wealthy Malachi Thorn and his wife Arania. He never wanted for anything and was raised to be a gentleman and to some day take over the responsibilities of the family fortune. At the age of five, he learned about the famous Thorn Family Curse, inflicted on the family when his ancestors feuded for power with Victoria Veltrino centuries before. He believed the curse existed for a short time, but began to shrug off the tale as he grew older. Meanwhile, his family blamed every problem on the Curse.
Though well-mannered, Thaddeus was a cold boy like his parents, and a blood purist. He was sorted into Slytherin at Hogwarts and quickly established himself among the House's elite. However, shortly after he began Hogwarts, his parents were inflicted with a strange ailment. The curse was blamed for it, though again Thaddeus laughed it off. Heartless and selfish, he only cared that he was one step closer to taking over Thorn House. He showed only outward grief when his parents died. His paternal grandmother took him in after that, as she was the next to inherit the family fortune with Thaddeus to claim it once she passed on.

Grandmother Thorn has taken ill. The healer says it might be a similar ailment to the one that took mother and father. My grandmother says it's the family curse at work, but I have never believed in such rubbish. The rivalry between my family and that of Victoria Veltrino's has been long dead. Victoria's apparent curse on my ancestors has been to blame for every pathetic problem that had befallen as my family is too damned stubborn to find fault within themselves. My parents died because of unhealthy living and my grandmother will do the same. I cannot lie and say I dread this event as Thorn House and all its assets will finally belong to me. The servants will do their jobs well with the upkeep while I am away at Hogwarts or I will happily relieve them of their duties.
And of course that brings us to the subject of Hogwarts itself, doesn't it? I tire of the school and dread the notion of enduring two more years there. It is bad enough that I must share classrooms and the Great Hall with mugg-bloods and half-bloods from the three inferior Houses, but to see them plague the good name of Slytherin is almost too much to bare. I'll be relieved to put that horrid place behind me for good and all. My intellect and talents, whether they be in academia or athletics, will be better used in the outside world.

Grandmother Thorn is now dead, taken by her re-emerged ailment in the night, even after the healers patted their own backs in what they thought was a swift recovery. The fools and their pretty potions. But that is not a matter of concern now. Thorn House is mine and mine alone and I tend to take full advantage of the wealth and assets I have acquired. The elitism of being a pureblood had lessened in recent years. Inferior bloods are becoming more and more recognized, appreciated... accepted. It is even being taken in consideration that some day Muggles could play a role in our world. Merlin forbid this should happen. With what I have at my disposal, I will do my part in returning the glory to purebloods again, and putting all others in their rightful place, including Muggles if that can be done.

An interesting afternoon. I was in Diagon Alley, looking for a book on dark magic to learn a bit more about my family's history now that I am to run Thorn House following graduation. I should have known my search would be in vain and my inquiry at the book shop would be frowned upon. So I decided to venture into Knockturn Alley. I have long ignored the horror stories that went with the place, and actually found the alley a refreshing change from attempting to blend myself among the masses of Diagon, sometimes literally as I was born a Metamorphagus. I stepped into the famous Borgin and Burkes to see about acquiring the book when I happened upon a most interesting conversation between the owner and a particularly vicious Ravenclaw girl I had encountered at Hogwarts. The conversation quickly ended when my presence was acknowledged, but I caught something about a Dark Lady. Most interesting indeed. Someone who tends to follow in Lord Voldemort's path perhaps? I should like to find out more information on this individual. If she shares the Dark Lord's ideas, I should like to do more than that. I should like to be in her ranks.
