Emerson is one of two children born to Parker and Mackenzie Bishop in the small town of Kirstead, Norfolk, England. The town that they were born in only had about 90 families within it. Emerson is the younger twin child of Parker and Mackenzie and is almost half a day younger than his identical twin brother Elvin. The two boys were indistinguishable from each other at birth and frequently as young children made out their parents to be complete idiots. Elvin was always incredibly hard working and a little more serious than Emerson was. But there was no doubt that they were brothers, even if one didn't look at their looks.
Emerson had a bit of a strange childhood but his parents always had some explanation that it was just a trick of the eye and even though the boy never remembered actually what happened there was something special about him. He was sure about it. The only problem was that Elvin wasn't special. The brothers never cared about the differences after all they had somewhat different personalities. Emerson was naturally smart and sometimes that got him into trouble. In primary school it got him into trouble more often than not. Elvin on the other hand sat frequently in school with his hand in the air actually paying attention. Emerson just couldn't keep still. He got bored easily and that was the problem.
As the years went by Elvin and Emerson stayed inseparable, they were two halves of a whole and life was perfect. Until they were eleven. The strangest of events happened then. It was just a few months before the two were to turn twelve years old that they had a man appear on their doorstep to talk to them about Emerson. The younger twin had a special gift. Magical powers? Really, their parents thought they needed to check their ears at first. The man would help show them how to get him prepared for the school. The most confusing thing is why did Emerson have to be off to a school while Elvin stayed home? The two couldn't be separated, especially for something like school. Emerson dug his feet down and refused to go. It was Elvin though who convinced him to take the opportunity. They went off with this professor to London and the man showed them how to access the wizarding world, or at least a small part of it. They got to purchase everything that Emerson needed for school, including a magic wand. And he got a small lizard as his pet for school. A little bearded dragon that he named Elvin Two so that way he could always have his brother with him even in this strange place.
The idea of this school was strange. He was going to learn how to preform magic. He was going to learn how to do something that he never thought was more than card tricks and eye illusions. This meant that he was going to go off until Christmas holiday and be without the one person that he'd never been without before. He had to become something other than Elvin and Emerson Bishop. He had to become Emerson Bishop. He had to morph from being one half of a whole to a whole. Emerson hugged his brother and his parents goodbye as he boarded the train in Kings Cross Station to go to Hogwarts.
The train ride was interesting. He met some people who rode in his compartment. They seemed to know all about the school and where to be. There were four houses and if you had asked Emerson to recite them back that day you would have gotten a jumble of letters in an attempt to make up something that sounded similar. But one was for the ambitious and cunning, one was for the intelligent, one for the loyal and one for the brave. Some of the students he sat with on the train were sure of which house they would get sorted into and others weren't quite so positive. Emerson could only think of two that he could be in. Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, they only made sense to him. Especially the more he thought on it.
It turned out to be Ravenclaw. After getting off the train they went across water in boats in the dark. There was a castle that looked over the water. Even in the dark it was magnificent, absolutely beautiful. Emerson was even more excited upon that moment, looking at the lights that were on inside this castle. It was incredible. He had clambered out of the boat and went into that great hall that was where he had a hat placed on him. That was where it shouted out the word Ravenclaw, the whole table that he ended up sitting with cheered at that moment when the hat shouted the word. Emerson was going to have friends. They were excited that he was in their house. Maybe he'd find someone like Elvin.
Emerson had gotten so used to the way school was as a child that learning to behave in a classroom was a task that was much easier said than done. He had a habit of getting into trouble at first. He did well in most of the things he tried. Flying classes were insane and he quickly learned that he liked his feet firmly planted on the ground. His brother probably would have enjoyed the concept. He did well in his year though.
Every school year after was a balance between keeping on track and not getting into too much trouble. It was a battle between loving his school life and missing his home life. It was something that was always inflicted upon him every year. He had a whole summer and Christmas holiday to spend with this family but he just wished that they could be here in this crazy world with him. Emerson grew into that whole person and when he came home for summers Elvin had done such a thing as well. They became two wholes instead of two halves, they became brothers that were still incredibly close but more independent than they would have ever thought. Every year that had gone by had made each boy grow a little more.
They grew to teenagers, they grew to young men in those years. OWLs year came and went and Emerson did well. The start of his NEWTs were last year during his sixth year. The advanced classes. And now the end... the end to all his school years, he's an adult in the wizarding world. At the end of this upcoming school year, Emerson is welcome to gain a job in the wizarding world. He didn't know what he wanted to do. When he was just a child he wanted to become a policeman. There were options in the ministry. He just had to keep buckled down to get there. One day, one day maybe Emerson would be able to be who he wanted to be. The problem was, was that if he lived in the wizarding world, how would his relationship with Elvin turn out? His twin brother who was a muggle, magicless, it was going to be hard living in different places, not being close together. Why couldn't they have just been in this together?
