Mathieu was not a fan of trains. It wasn't that the travel made him ill or anything. He just hated the travel itself. It was times like these that he wished he could just use a Portkey to get to Hogwarts, but the school of course preferred they get there by the train so Hagrid could greet them all. He just didn't like sitting in something movie for that long. Fortunately, he had two books in his hands to read for the trip. Advanced Potions of Japan and Arithmancy In The Ancient World would keep his mind off the train. Now to just find an empty compartment and seat himself so he could sit and enjoy them. "Pardon... pardon... pardon s'il vous plaît," he said as he moved through the crowd of other students and looked about. Just about every compartment was occupied. Mathieu had nothing against sitting with others. He was a friendly chap after all. He just preferred the peace and quiet. He sighed and was about to give up the idea and just ask if he could join someone when finally near the end he found one. With a smile, he stepped in and sat down. Opening the first of the two books, he began to read. OLIVIER TOPHER PEIRRIN

Ollie had made it to the station just in time. "Excuse e..." he said with a small sigh. Everyone was rushing, though Ollie was just walking through the crowd. Their parents had already been and gone to see Mat and Serah off. Serah was most likely in a compartment with all of her other friends. Social butterfly, that one. Parker and Claira, the same, but together. He used to ride with them, but not anymore. They started hanging out with other people and the guys they would be with Olivier just didn't care for. He would always keep a close eye on them from afar, but hanging out with the two just seemed to happen over the summer. And what a lovely summer it had been.
No, Olivier wouldn't find himself with his sisters for this train ride. His brother was only a year below him, and he knew that he needed to be more social. Oliver and he had very similar minds. Though, Olivier was a bit more extroverted than his brother. His brother had his nose in books and his mind always in a mood to study, whereas Ollie had his nose in, well in other things. The heat of the summer was over, emotionally, for Ollie. He could return to his normal gentlemanly self and get on with his sixth year, that isn't to say he wouldn't be grabbing April and running off to a broom cupboard or anything, but that was something in the works I guess.
He patrolled the train looking for a friend, or someone who he could ride to school with who wouldn't out awkward Ollie. Ollie can be awkward, at first. Strangers weird him out, therefore he is always anxious and awkward when meeting someone new. Like April for example. They had known each other for a while, but never really had a conversation, thus, making her a stranger. He didn't know what to say or do when he first officially met her... but a few hours in he was as chipper and as much of himself as he could be. They were even holding hands. He almost felt like Mat was a younger him, with less of an ability to find that comfortability in others.
He came across a car with one person inside. There face was in a book, but Ollie knew that hair from miles away. He tapped the window of the door and slid it open slightly, "Hey little brother." He smiled wide, "Cava?" he said with a small grin as he entered the train car. He took a seat opposite from him. "Advanced.. Potions.. from Japan?" he said, reading the title on the spine of the book he had in his hand. He liked potions sure, and was good at school mostly. But this train ride wasn't a place where Ollie did any particular studying or reading of school subjects. It was the last bit of summer, a ride to an impending year of studying and fraternization with friends. He wouldn't let the train ride be about school. "Put that down.. maintenant.."

Mathieu liked his older brother well enough, and usually would have no issue with talking to him. However, again he wanted to relax and read in order to ignore the movement of the train. When Ollie entered the compartment, Mathieu looked up at him and gave a nod when he asked how his younger was. "Amende (fine)," he sighed. "The other compartments were full I take it?" Mathieu already figured they were, given how packed all the compartments he saw looked when he himself was walking around. Still, he hoped his brother would have found somewhere else to sit as he knew Ollie would want to talk the entire trip. He tired to go back to reading, but then lowered the book again when his brother said the title. "Oui," he said, confirming that was indeed what the book was called. He then sighed and marked his place when Ollie told him to put it down. Another downside of being a middle child- an older sibling who got to be "the boss." "Very well," he said. "But you know I do not enjoy travel, so don't expect me to be very verbal." He then looked over as the candy trolley passed and the kind old lady ask if they wanted anything. "Non merci, Madame. No thank you," he said politely. Mathieu was a picky eater and not crazy about most sweets. OLIVIER TOPHER PEIRRIN

Ollie rolled his eyes with a small laugh, "Si Grave... Lighten up a bit, Mat.." his french accent was always so harsh, but he knew how to do other accents, so he could lighten it around others. Though, around his brother and other family he didn't have to. He could talk like he normally would. "School comes so soon... no need to be studying now.." He knew his brother would study twenty-four/seven if he could, but Ollie wouldn't ever be letting that happen. "Sourire un peu.." he said shaking his head slightly. "Life is meant to be enjoyed... not just spent learning.." He sighed and put his hands on his knees. "Get... a girlfriend or something... Or hang out with your big bro. Tu ne peu pas?"
His brother was being his usual self. Abominate against travel, seriously reading through anything he finds educationally interesting... There had to be some way to get him to want to do other things... He knew a pretty girl could pull his attention, but that was about it. Come to think of it, that is where these two really differ. Anything sexually appealing would have Ollie pulled from any kind of study, whereas Mat really needed someone drop dead gorgeous. Eh, Ollie is just easier... He leaned back into the cushion of the seat and looked over at his brother with a weird look. "Did ma get everything for you this year?" he was curious. Unlike last year and most years prior, he didn't spend much time at home this summer. He hoped all hell didn't break loose, but if it had he would have heard about it. His father probably wasn't even home once. "If you want.. We can go together next year?" he asked, trying to think of other things to talk about. It had been a while, and he didn't know what to say to him anymore. Were they just growing apart?

Mathieu and Olivier had much in common, but in other areas, there was a world of difference. Olivier saw a difference between learning and having fun. Mathieu didn't. Learning was fun to him. "I am not studying," he said. "You very well know that I read for recreation. Despite what you may think, books can be enjoyed on a casual basis."When Olivier asked him to smile a little, his brother did a goofy mock grin. "There... êtes-vous heureux?" he said. He then gave an actual smile when Olivier mentioned getting a girlfriend. "It just so happens that I met a rather lovely girl in Diagon Alley not too long ago. Her name is Renee Foster and I grew quite fond of her."Mathieu then nodded as Olivier asked if Ma got everything for him. "Oui, she did," he said. "I am quite prepared, and if you wish, oui we can go together."
Mathieu then smirked a little. "You do know I made Prefect this year, and I will not go easy on my older brother should he find himself in trouble," he said. "It appears the tables have turned and I am the boss, no?" Mat was joking of course. He sought no revenge on his brother, as much as the boy bugged him at times. Ollie rolled his eyes at his brother, "Yes.. and reading can be fun.. When you read like.. mystere, aventure, romance, La Sci-Fi.. Non? Tu as en aversion??" He really understood why his brother read all the time. Reading was a lot of fun, but the material he decided upon even for free time was study material, or so Olivier thought. He deemed his brother to be a vastly knowledgeable bookworm, and his extroversion would be about the only thing he'd change about his brother. Though, he knew if he tried, he would just end up pushing him away.
He looked at his brother with a simple stern smile. As Mathieu smiled, he broke into a small chuckle, "Si formel... tu dois assouplir.." He knew that his brother couldn't help but speak with such a proper etiquette, but sometimes it was a hassle. He loved his brother dearly, but sometimes he wanted to strangle him. He was so smart and proper, he almost felt as if it made Olivier look bad. He shrugged that off, not everyone can be so formal and get away with it. Olivier was too awkward for something like that. He just nodded. When he spoke of a girl he recognized the name of, he smiled. "Ah? Elle est très mignon!" He said cheerfully. He knew she was with someone, or thought she was anyway, but wouldn't say anything. After all, he knew his brother would just stop pursuit. He needed something to get him out of the common room, and a girl, even if she became just a friend, would be one way.
He smiled, "Bien.. Now, what did you lie about so she'd get you anyway?" He knew his brother well enough to know some things. Especially that because of his interests, certain things he wanted could often be coughed out as a school need. Like his mother cared either way, the family was well off thanks to dad. The only thanks he'd ever really deserve.
Ah.. His little brother was Prefect. That was cute, "Oh no worries there.. Good place for you though.. the other prefects and you should get along great!" he said with cheer. He wanted his brother to make more friends. "Who knows, maybe it'll impress Renee?" He looked away.. What had he done? "Oh! I'm Co-Captain in Dance! I saw your name.. Power goes to who?" he said with a big grin.

Mathieu and Olivier definitely did not have the same interests in literature. Mathieu never cared for fiction. In a world where magic, dragons, trolls, goblins, unicorns, etc. existed, things that were actually considered fiction were silly to him. "Oui, je n'aime pas," he said, being blunt that he did not care for those genres. "I do not have time to engage in the silly adventures of non-existent characters. My interest is in the real world. If you enjoy it, then so be it, but do not discourage me from my own literary interests."It seemed Ollie wanted to speak nothing but French from there, and Mat could understand that given it was just them. He had become quite used to speaking both languages on a regular basis now. "Je vais bien merci (I am fine thank you)," he said. Ollie obviously had his own ideas of what it was to loosen up. Mat did not feel as if he was tense. Mat did smile at his brother when his brother said Renee was cute. Finally, the two agreed on something. "Oui, elle est très belle (Yes, she is very beautiful)," he said. "Elle est aussi très intelligent (She is also very intelligent). Elle aime trop potions (She likes potions as well).
Mat sighed and rolled his eyes as Ollie asked him what he lied about. "You would love to think that your goody-good brother lied, wouldn't you, Olivier?" he said. He then cracked a smiled and laughed a little. Mathieu blushed about impressing Renee, then smiled again when Ollie said he was Co-Captain in dance and the tables would be turned. "I am sure we will do as usual and try to get the better of one another if we can," he said. "But I have the upper hand on you now. I know how to dance. You do not know how to stay out of trouble." Mat smirked at him regarding that. OLIVIER TOPHER PEIRRIN

Life is not tried, it is merely survived If you're standing outside the fire He felt a slight wedge form where there shouldn't be one. Mat and he never endeavored beyond this kind of conversation at the lengths of separate opinions. With his retort of literature, Olie made a small unsatisfied look. "Without it.. you'll lose imagination, Mat.." Imagination was something that Olie lived off of. He had to find a way to, or else he would be just as blamed as Mat seemed to be in the very moment. "Not like there is anything wrong with it. Tu ne peux parles pas en Francais..(You don't need to speak in French) Save that for home.. I'll stop as well." It was much easier to converse in English and keep it English. He knew if he let himself speak up a big French conversation with Mat, he would go the whole school year correcting himself into English.
"Ahh.. oui." he said with a small smile. "At least you are finding a healthy interest outside of the studies you hold so dear to you." he said leaning and reaching to mess his hair. He felt like he only knew a part of Mathieu, or more so, could only relate to a small part of him. When they were kids, it wasn't nearly as difficult. But Mat grew up into his own person. How different they were wasn't always a bad thing, and he was surely glad he wasn't anything like their father. Sure, their father was a bit of a genius, but he is also an asinine and completely wasteful person. Dead beat, or not, his father was not someone he cared for... at least in the sense of relativity. "Yeah.. She really is."
He was certainly glad that due to his father's family issues, they kids were made to go to Hogwarts. He wouldn't know if he would have ever met the people he had met. Hogwarts was certainly Olie's second home. His third home would be where his family actually lived, and his first was the dance studio.
Mat appeared as if he hadn't lied, Olie let it drop and felt that it was best not to pry. He was a good boy, a mama's boy, but he knew Mat had his way of things. "Hm." he hummed with a small nod. There wasn't any getting around his continued comments of the opposing powers they'd have. He knew that Mat would find some way to get on him for something, he just didn't know what. Olie did cause a bit of a stir last year with the alchemy classrooms. He was sure Mat remembered the professor having to put out a few fires, and so did the rest of his year, and house. "Just.. be careful. I won't burn yo, promise." he said with a small wink.
Mat was being his curious self. Not in that manner of curious, but Olie just found him curious. He didn't really know his brother as well as he thought. "So.. you wouldn't even want to read a tale of a dragon slayer? Imagining the scenery? Just for fun?" he was curious. Mat loved the fables of dragons and warriors and such when they were younger. Though, Olie hadn't really been around much since he turned fourteen and was able to attend classes at the studio with only a signature. Was Mat mad at him for leaving the family like that, and most summers after that? Olie was unsure, but his brother just seemed.... off putting. "You know I love you, kid, yes?" he asked. Olie knew he did, but he had to hear it.. for his own benefit. "How were things at home this year? Were Claira and Parker there much?"

Mat laughed at the line about imagination. He didn't do so mockingly. Something just entered his mind about it. "It is amusing, no?" he said. "To the Muggles, the things you and I see and do in our everyday lives exists only in their imaginations. Perhaps for us, our own reality as wizards is quite enough without imagining other things. But I do not condemn you, brother. Perhaps one day you will follow in the footsteps of the great wizard writers of fiction and write a bestseller. You will got to fancy parties and meet famous people while I am stuck in some silly, boring teaching job." Mat smiled again at this. Mat was intrigued with pretty girls like Renee, but he wasn't happy that Ollie considered his interest in his books unhealthy. However, he would say nothing more about that. Mat wasn't exactly comforted when Ollie promised not to burn him. "I certainly hope not," he smirked. Mat rolled his eyes when Ollie brought up fiction again, but then smiled when Ollie said he loved him. Mat loved his brother too. He loved his family very much, despite the middle-child "curse". "Oui, they were at home a good while... here and there," said Mat about the Claira and Parker. "We spent some time together of course, though I was obviously not a primary reason for the visit." Mat didn't seem bitter about that of anything. Again, he loved his family, but his idea of fun was hiding in his room with his cat and reading. OLIVIER TOPHER PEIRRIN

Life is not tried, it is merely survived If you're standing outside the fire He laughed with his brother. He let him speak, but when he was finished he gave him an odd look. He knew that what he wanted was dance related, and he thought his brother knew that too, "Oh little brother... When I'm out in the world of professionals, I'll be dancing my way into those parties... not writing." he chuckled. "And don't think you won't be going to some of them, you're my little brother... Of course, you'll be able to tag along some times. You're not a bad dancer yourself." He nodded to Mat.
He wasn't saying that his interest in studies was unhealthy, just that he was happy he had other healthy interests outside of school. He shrugged it off with a smile. He chuckled at the mention to burning with a wide smile. "Don't worry about it too much, I mean, I won't start anything on fire either." he said, sarcastically.
He was happy to hear that their sisters were home off an on, it put his mind at ease. He knew, just as well as he could, they could protect the family from their father. It wasn't like he would ever hurt them physically, but intentionally and emotionally, he's done a pretty bang up job. His father was a strong reason for why Olivier wasn't closer to his family, he did have to keep a distance from home over the summer, he didn't want to confront his father ever again. "And.. our ass hole of a father?" he said, without he usual morale of upbeat. It was also a bit sharper and quite serious.

Mat smiled a little about the idea of him joining Ollie at all the fancy parties. Perhaps a ball or two since that was his style of dance. "Are you sure you want to do that?" he joked. "I may very well embarrass you with my great skills."Mat then chuckled about the fire thing. He knew his brother would be fine, but if Ollie was going to give him grief about this and that, then Mat would do the same to him. Mat then sighed when Ollie spoke of his father. Mat didn't care for the man either, and he was glad to be away at Hogwarts and away from the man for a while. "Must we bring him up, Ollie?" he said seriously. "And here this train ride conversation was becoming a bit more enjoyable." Mat showed how serious he was by beginning to pick up his book again. However, he would give Ollie a fair chance not to continue with the subject about their father. "We are heading to school, so let us continue with the conversation about school," he said. "Have you heard about the tournament this year? It is for sixth and seventh years. Are you throwing your name in?"OLIVIER TOPHER PEIRRIN
