Pandora was a mix of excited and worried. Evie had taken her up on her offer if she needed to crash and she flew around the house after telling her grandfather, making sure any sign of native stuff or a mess either one was taken care of. It was a modest three floor and basement brownstone which meant instead of being spread out it was more narrow rooms on each floor which meant a lot of stairs for her, but she started at the top and worked her way down. Only the top floor had any recent work done in it and her grandfather and she lived up there, but there was no guest bedroom. If Evie objected to sleeping in her bed they had a rollaway so no issues there. Her grandfather's room was just a peek, he never kept anything loose in there due to his blindness.
Having taken advantage of the fact he couldn't see them, she had managed to get him to redo her room with something which didn't fit the rest of the house, but kept her in the right mindset. He did believe he was spoiling her anyway. She checked the family room where they spent most of their time and added a box to the hallway so she would remember to put it away later. Going down to second she briefly checked the dining area and den leading out to the tiny back porch which they mostly only used for ventilation. He had been hesitant about air conditioning with his old wizarding ways but once she took him somewhere it had been installed, he had found himself much more amenable and it was making this summer blissfully nice in the middle of the day, though they always shut it off at night for the doors and windows.
Not like England ever really got hot so much, not like back home, but she so loved fresh air in the nighttime too. Fortunately so did he.
Stopping in to check on Mrs Cruller who came in to do meals from next door in the kitchen to say she would be in the formal room up front waiting on her guest if she was needed. And when she stepped in there she was glad to see nothing in the sitting area or entry way needed anything more then an extra dusting which she certainly wasn't going to do. The service sent around a main group on Wednesdays the one day they did no magic in the house, or at least her grandfather didn't since she could not yet. She sat lightly on the edge of a chair listening for either the basement ringer (which had a floo fireplace just outside under the front stoop for most easy and covert wizarding entrances without someone being INSIDE your house) or the front door either one. She had no idea which way her friend was going to show up...

Evie was excited that Pandora had been happy for her to come over and stay for the week of the school break. She was glad for the chance to stay somewhere else rather than at her own home over the break, and also glad for the chance to get to know Pandora a bit better. They had chatted a few times but never really had a lot of time together, so Evie was glad for that opportunity.
Before they had left school, Pandora had given her instructions on how to get to her place, including the place name to say in the Floo network, and then where to go once she came out. Following the instructions carefully, with her suitcase of clothes in her hand, she threw the floo powder and disappeared in a flame, appearing in the fireplace under the front stoop of the house. Remembering her instructions, she then rang the bell at the bottom door, waiting for it to open. She had a nervous excitement about her as she waited, wondering if she had gotten everything she needed to pack, or if it would be awkward being at someone else's house, or if she would be staying in Pandora's room or her own room... lots of different things were on her mind.

Hearing the downstairs basement ringer, Pandora hopped up with a grin and hurried for the basement stair and down to the hallway. As she walked she knew she felt a bit anxious; this would be her first guest for more then a day since she first came here to pose for her grandfather's daughter. After six years there wasn't a huge worry about the home life at least, but it still paid to take precautions. It wasn't hard to see she was a bit edgy, nervous about everything going all right. Having to run around and check stuff hadn't helped either so when she opened the door with a smile, her cheeks were red and she was maybe breathing a trifle too fast.
"Hey! Come on in, do you need help with anything?" She let her in before closing the door and they stood in the hallway for a second as she spoke. She hesitated mostly because she felt she had to play tour guide a little bit too, but she wanted to make sure everything was good first. "You didn't have any problems coming did you?" She turned and pointed down the hall. "grandfather uses this for all storage so he filled it all in and categorized it so he could find things easily. I did tell you he was blind, right?"
They always kept the floors free of moved or temporary objects just in case.
"Come on upstairs and I'll show you around," she said leading the way to the end of the long hallway of doors and to the very nicely done stairway with it's many chair landings and pictures. A few puppy dogs ran up ahead of them inside the paintings, some favorites of her grandfathers who enjoyed roaming the stairs. Leading her friend into the main living area she took her suitcase from her and tucked it under the couch arm for the time being. "There, that's safer. The only part of the house that's been renovated in the last fifty years is the kitchen and the bedroom floor up top. SO it's all old down here."

Evie did notice that Pandora seemed a little out of breath, but she didn't comment on it and just smiled when she saw her friend. "Hey!" she said, putting her suitcase down and giving Pandora a hug as a greeting. That was just what Evie did, it was normal for her. "Nope, no problems at all! Your instructions were really clear. And yeah, you told me he was blind," she replied as she looked around the hallway. It was quite clean and well organised from what she could tell, and there was nothing lying about on the floor which was a very good idea if her grandfather was blind.
She followed Pandora as she led her upstairs, and Evie looked around at the way the house was decorated, finding the taste quite interesting. Not in a bad way at all, it was quite unique and she liked the feel of it. It was quite old-looking, but she quite liked the style. "This is cool," she said, wandering around as Pandora put her suitcase under the couch arm, out of the way. She ran her hand over one of the curtains, feeling the heavy material. "Oh, so upstairs is newer-looking?" She felt it would seem quite strange having it look a lot newer upstairs than it was downstairs. But then again, having different feels in different parts of the house might be quite nice in some ways, depending on one's mood. "Oh I was meaning to ask, where am I going to be sleeping?" she asked Pandora curiously.

As Evie put her case down to hug her, Pandora gave her a smile and hugged back. Sometimes it was just nice to know there was someone you could relax a little around, even if not on all subjects. "It's a four floor building and he still insists on living on the top floor. he makes me nervous, but he knows every nook and cranny. I finally convinced him last year to redo the house and he's doing it a floor at a time so he can adjust easy which I guess is all right."
Glad her friend didn't mind, she nodded at her words. "It's not bad really, it's just old. You should have seen the kitchen it was the worst. Some people just need to be watched over and that room gave me the creeps with holes and loose floorboards and cabinets hanging. It's much better and safer now." She led the way to the stairs saying "Oh you can just leave your bag there for now, it's easier till you know your way around."
As she started up the steps to the next floor she said "Oh well we don't have a guest room, he never brings people here, he likes the excuse for getting out and I'm his last relative so we figured you wouldn't mind being in my room." She arrived on the second floor and motioned towards the piano."Do you play? I don't think I'v ever asked if you tickle ivories."

Evie laughed a little as Pandora explained how well her grandfather knew the place. It was pretty cool how well he managed to get around while being blind. "Wait, four floors? That's cool, I didn't realise there were that many levels," she said as they went up another level to the second floor. She was very much enjoying seeing all of the different rooms in this house, she was used to houses that were more spread out horizontally rather than vertically. This house was definitely a change from that, and she liked that.
"Yeah, having a nicely renovated kitchen is one of the most important things in a house, I think," Evie replied as they continued to walk around a bit. "Like, it's where you're preparing food and stuff as well, so you want it to be clean and to have easy access to stuff."
When they came into the room with the piano, Evie heard Pandora explain the room situation. So she wouldn't have her own room, but would be sharing with Pandora. She was fine with that, it would make it more fun anyway, in her opinion. "Oh, cool! That's totally fine. It'll be fun, we can stay up late and talk about stuff. I haven't had a real sleepover in a while," she admitted with a smile. When Pandora gestured to the piano, Evie laughed a little and stepped away from it. "Oh, no. I'm not musical at all... all of my talent went into drawing and painting rather than music," she replied. "You should play me something, though, if you play!" She assumed that Pandora played, if she lived in a house with a piano, but it wasn't necessarily the case, of course.

"Well, we don't use this basement one so much of course. I guess he's a bit backward putting all the storage down below and us in the attic." She smiled, knowing if she did ever end up with the home it would get redone. Wizards and witches had long lives it seemed so it could be a long time still. She agreed with Evie completely! "Oh I know! We have a lady from next door who comes to do meals, she needs the income and it means grandfather is taken care of while I'm gone. Very important."
She knew herself a few things, but many of those were not so English or Indian either.
"Oh well, I've never had a sleepover. Can you have one with just two people? I understood they were all full of hair redoing and gossip and stuff." She grinned. "I don't think I know enough secrets to keep it very entertaining for long! I'm usually gone while everyone else is off doing stuff." She laughed about the piano shaking her head. "Maybe chopsticks, that's about it. It was my grandmother's so it's not that any of us uses it so much. Though a few times I've heard him play it, mostly while missing her I think..."
It was sort of sad, but she sort of found it very beautiful in another way. He had confessed to her once not caring for making music so much. "Over there is the dining room, you'll see it later of course and the door leads out on a little balcony. We often leave it open for fresh air coming at night. Do you care about open windows? While sleeping that is? I have extra blankets if you don't..."

Evie nodded, it made sense that they didn't use the basement area so much since it was mostly storage. Come to think of it, it would have been much more typical to have the storage in the attic and use the basement for something more practical, rather than having to climb stairs all the time - Pandora definitely had a point. But things were how they were, at least for now. "That's so nice that you have someone who comes to help with meals. So do you normally do the meals when you're here? Or does she do them then as well?" Evie asked curiously.
"You can totally have one with just two people! Those are almost even better, sometimes. Because you feel more open to talk about more stuff, you know? Like sometimes with more people, you might be comfortable telling something to one person but not the others, so it's a little more restrained, but with two people it's easier to share more. And I'm sure you have some things that are fun to share! We'll see later on," she said with an excited smile. She laughed a little when Pandora admitted she couldn't really play the piano either, but it was sad when she heard how her grandfather played sometimes while missing his wife. That would be really hard.
"Oh, that sounds nice! No, I don't mind about open windows, unless it gets particularly cold. I get cold kind of easily sometimes. But since it's still warm from summer it should be okay. I like the breeze," she said with a smile. "So where is your room, then?" she asked as they continued the tour.

She wavered a bit on the point. "Well, she has shown me a few tricks and that's good. I can make some pretty basic stuff, but really when it comes down to it the summertime I'm often off on jobs too, not so much here. So she does for him the whole year and I just sort of help and learn along the way. So I could, but I don't really much. Besides, he is old and at least a bit stuck in certain old ways and having things stay familiar even in the food is one of those." She shrugged, wondering if she would be dependent when she grew old and certainly hoped not.
"Ah," she said suddenly feeling nervous, "that does make sense! Except for model talk and school stuff I'm not sure what I can, but we'll see then. " She smiled at her friend, but she had certainly felt a surge of worry about keeping things off certain subjects. As Evi asked about her room they were nearly at the last flight of steps. "Well I just convinced him this last year to get muggle air conditioning for the summers and he really liked that one, but even in summer we usually open the windows up and let the air flow through."
Pointing up the stairs she leaned her head close and whispered "Right up here. Between you and me, he couldn't see what they brought in but he liked the feel of it so I sort of...got myself more then he thought. Our secret, okay?" And the maid service, of course. It suited a model she thought personally, but nothing else in the house for certain. They came up and the top of he steps was a larger room then the others, being that there were only three on this floor to begin with and they took up equal space. Pointing to the other end where a closed door was she said a touch softly "He's having his nap right now, you'll get to meet him later. This is the room we spend the most time in really."
Leading her to the right to a door partly open, she motioned her in saying "And this is mine. Not a homey type of room I know, but I like it." Pandora was a bit concerned that she was okay with it, though the fact it was only one bed didn't really click in her mind. Having been raised with siblings, she had thought Hogwarts was just being luxury by giving everyone a separate bed. Slipping off her shoes she slid onto the bed gracefully, stretching out her legs topped nicely by her short skirt as she said "You are probably my first guests since I was pretty small. It's about time I had someone here who could appreciate it."
'And me...' her body language might have said....

Evie could understand him liking routine and sameness, a lot of people did when they got older. A lot of people even liked it when they were younger, too. Evie liked things to change up and be different, though. "That makes sense. It's cool that you're picking up some cooking skills. I probably need to learn some of those, too," she commented with a laugh.
She did notice Pandora tensing up a little behind her smile... maybe there were some things she didn't want to talk about, or something, or she just didn't like sharing some things. That was okay to Evie though, she wouldn't push too hard, or at least she would try not to. "Yeah, I feel like natural air flow is nicer than air conditioning," she agreed. "I'm sure it'll be fine, like you said there are extra blankets if I feel like I need one." But it was still pretty warm so she thought she should be okay.
"Really?" she whispered back, putting a hand over her mouth and laughing a little. "I guess what he doesn't know won't hurt him, right?" she replied as they came into the larger room. She then followed Pandora into her room, and her eyes widened when she saw it. "Wow. It's pretty," she replied, looking around at the decor. It was beautifully decorated, even if it wasn't that homey. "Well, I definitely appreciate it," she said as she watched Pandora slide onto the bed. Was she intentionally doing it that sensually, or was it just Evie hoping for that?

She laughed. "A bare few maybe," and she held up her hands with the nails carefully cut and decorated and pampered, "These hands aren't meant for much involving knives, if I'd been born a century ago I'd probably be a kept woman." She smiled to show she was joking, but it was sort of the way she was headed in a way. To the air conditioning comment she nodded enthusiastically.
"It is, but I convinced him for his own good. He feels the heat a lot more then I think he used to. And the cold. The fireplaces aren't doing him as much good as they used to. Man, getting old rather bothers me more now..." Chuckling at the blanket comment she added "Maybe I'll get us some hot chocolate just before bed. I always burn like a furnace after hot chocolate before bed. Then you won't need much in the way of blankets."
Winking at her friend's giggle she nodded. Pandora like the fact that she didn't mind her little trick. So when she reacted to the room she slid onto the bed and nodded, looking around with some satisfaction. "I really enjoyed picking stuff out too. The decorator said she thought it would be great, I just love it." She saw her friend staring and patted the bed next to her. "Come on, sit. We've got plenty of time. Tell me what's going on." Her voice sounded concerned.
When her friend sat down, She pulled her bare legs in, crossing them and turned to her, ready to pull her in for a hug if she needed it. She didn't realize her closeness wasn't really helping her friend's concentration nor her expanse of leg.

Evie laughed a little at the comment that Pandora would be a kept woman. "I'm sure you'd be able to learn more skills to do more. If you wanted to, that is. It's not like it's something you have to do." Evie didn't really enjoy cooking herself so she could see that it wasn't really a requirement - but she could see it was a useful skill to have.
"Ooh, hot chocolate before bed sounds great. Although we'd better be careful not to make ourselves too hot before we go to bed or we'll be shedding layers all over the place!" She then just realised what that would mean and blushed a little. Pandora's comment about her burning like a furnace made Evie think about keeping warm by her body heat - not a good thing to think about. She shook her head a little to clear her thoughts. They probably wouldn't even be sharing a bed - all she knew was that they were sharing a room.
She sat on the bed beside Pandora where she indicated, enjoying the bounciness and softness of the bed. "This is really comfy. You must sleep really well," she said idly as she looked around the room. "Whats going on? What do you mean by that?" she asked. Could Pandora tell that there was something big that had been on her mind of late? Could Evie be open about how she felt about girls, and would that make this weird? She wasn't quite sure if that would be a good idea or not.

She nodded, sure of her own independence. "Well sure, I know I don't need to, but I do want to stay on my own. And for that there's some things about being around a house you need to know to manage fine without help." She shrugged. It was just a fact. Besides, once she couldn't model anymore which would happen some day, she would be a mother and that meant mostly at home with kids. And for that she needed certain skills she didn't really want to admit to herself. She laughed at the idea of shedding layers.
"Ha yes well we'd be safe don't you think? Once the kitchen is clear for the night, we can wear whatever we want really. Maybe that will be the challenge to you in the slumber party to go in only underwear rest of the night!" She hesitated briefly, then added regretfully "I'd have to ask for a rider on that one since I need to say goodnight to my grandfather at some point." She checked the clock on the dresser across the room and nodded to herself; plenty of time.
"Well it ought to be, it's a perfectly serviceable bed, practically brand new not even six months yet. Not that it's likely to see any action before I'm married and away. I wonder what Grandfather will do with the bed after that." That would be a big step, but she knew Jared had plans to move out of his father's house promptly. What sort of place would they be able to afford? "Jared wants to move out of his father's house as soon as he can. Makes me wonder what sort of house I'll live in then. How odd it will feel to sleep with him..."
As Evie responded defensively, Pandora gave her a sharp look (she hoped) and said "Evie. Come on now, I know you have issues at home, you've hinted at them before and I told you that this was a safe place for you." Sticking a leg out behind her friend she lifted herself till she right against her, leg behind her, the other across her lap temporarily and hugged her tightly, wanting her to understand she was safe here, not knowing what else might this mean. "I'm not gong to judge you. Besides, you know I never gossip. That's a ridiculous thing girls do, but the model world is nearly worse. I'm already lips sealed even there..."

"Oh yeah, definitely," Evie agreed. Some basic skills were very much needed for independence, like cooking and cleaning. But she supposed that only the basic cooking skills were really essential, it didn't need to be too fancy. There was always more that you could learn, but learning more takes more time.
When Pandora pointed out that they would be safe, Evie thought for a moment and realised it was true - her grandfather was blind, after all. The thought of Pandora running around in her underwear was enough incentive for Evie to get over her initial shock and insecurity at the idea - although there was still the mental comparison between Evie who was, well, normal, and Pandora who was a model. That was a recipe for inadequacy... but more than that, Evie kind of wanted to see her in her underwear anyway. She blushed at the thought. "Yeah, maybe we can do that! It would be fun! What time will the kitchen be clear later?" she asked. When Pandora mentioned the rider, though, Evie laughed a little. "Wait, if he's blind, why do you need to put on more clothes to say goodnight to him? It's not like he would know..." she pointed out teasingly, half-trying to goad Pandora into being bolder.
At the mention of the bed not seeing any action, Evie gave a little giggle at the thought. She still hadn't ever thought seriously about doing anything like that herself, so to hear someone her age quite seriously talking about it, she wasn't quite sure how to react. Of course she was still talking about it for down the track, but the way she said it, it was almost like she was ready for it now if it happened to happen. "Yeah it would be kind of strange to sleep with someone else... it would take getting used to, definitely. Not to mention all the other stuff that would come with that too..." she said, blushing at the thought.
At Pandora's sharp look and words, she nodded a little. That was fair enough, Evie had just been encouraging Pandora to be able to open up, too. Maybe Evie could set the example by sharing about what was going on at home. At least that dodged the girls issue for now. "Well... yeah, I guess things are tense at home. But they kind of always have been," she replied as she shuffled up the bed and leaned back against the headboard after kicking off her shoes. Shoes on the bed were always a no-no in her opinion, and this was someone elses bed so she had to take even more care. "Basically they've always liked my sister Phoebe more than me. We're twins, and she showed her magic, like, years before I did. They thought I was a squib, so they hid me away on family events and things like that. A lot of people only thought they had one daughter, not two. So that kind of ruined our relationship, really, because I always felt unwanted... and I guess it's never really been able to be repaired. So I kind of drift away from going the direction that my parents want all of us to go, while my brother and Phoebe are more of the model children, staying in the family line, rah rah rah." She rolled her eyes a little. She did love her sister dearly, just not the way that she had things so much easier with their parents.

"About an hour after supper I would think, should be safe by then I would say. We'll go down and bring your suitcase up with us by then anyway." She laughed and raised a finger motioning naughty business. "Oh no you don't, he's going to want hugs. Besides, I often turn down his bed to make it easier for him and check to see if he wants anything before hand. I'll need to have something on just in case."
She hesitated, knowing she couldn't say such about the sleeping part much. "I don't think the actual sleeping part will be that hard, but the rest I'm not sure about yet. I would think the first night will be the most difficult, the first few weeks to get used to each other's routines and habits and I'll keep my fingers crossed he's not a snorer." She giggled thinking about that.
As Evie leaned back against the headboard, Pandora rolled over on her front, her elbows down and hands linked under her chin a she watched her while she spoke. Hr knees were bent so her feet were in the air, crossed at the ankles and waving up and down slightly as the story came out. Pandora didn't smile much as she heard it because she could have seen herself in the same situation. "That's horrible! SO they really treated you like you shouldn't exist? I always thought it was terrible the stories I heard about squibs, but that must have torn at you!"
