Lorcan had happily boarded the train back to Hogwarts. It was due to be his seventh year and he was going to get to see Rosalie. That he was excited about and kind of nervous about but for Lorcan it was something that wasn't going to show. At least not to anyone who noticed him. He waved goodbye to his parents and smiled at his brother. They'd gone past the years of sitting tightly together on the train to Hogwarts unsure of what the next year would bring. The slightly older twin had a girl that had threatened to not snog him in an owl post and he was going to make sure he got that snog. He had to stop apologizing. That was her condition. He tried, he was never good at writing letters though. Sometimes it was the only way to write out a feeling.
He'd missed Rosalie this summer. After everything in Rome he wasn't sure of what everything would become. But one thing was absolute, Rosalie was his at least for this train ride back to Hogwarts and they had one more year together if nothing else. Caesar wouldn't be here anyways. He was off in the world becoming a productive adult. Lorcan still had to figure out what he was going to do with his life. But he had time. He was going to be doing some traveling at the end of the school year. It was what his parents did and he felt like it was a rite to be able to grow up into a young man who would work hard and do what was needed.
There was something slightly grim about seeing Rosalie here on the train. Everything could be ended here in the few hours it would take them to get to Hogwarts. Lorcan very well knew this going in. His heart was already on the verge of shattering. But it was a fact that he'd come to accept. She was pushed into this by her family and Rosalie Harper wasn't going to rebel against her parent's wishes. She was going to be the good girl that she'd always been and go along with that they said. At least this was Lorcan's opinion on it all. Caesar Montague and Rosalie Harper would be wedded and eventually have children. Lorcan didn't quite know where to go from there. Starting off traveling though once he left here would take his mind off of everything happening here.
After the seventeen year old stuck his head in and said hello to some friends he went and found a quite compartment where Rosalie would hopefully find him. They seriously needed to talk. Not through pen and paper but through words, ones that had to express what was going on. He carefully pulled his legs up onto the seat and glanced out the window of the train to see if he could see anyone else he recognized. He honestly just kind of zoned out watching his own face. Lorcan hadn't quite been himself over the summer since Rome. Maybe he'll get out of that trench and back into the Lorcan everyone knew. Only time will tell now.

Rosalie had very much wanted to escape her family home. She had wanted to leave for a while now. The moment the thought had first entered her mind had to be…oh, about the third day that she actually spent around her home. She had no idea that she was going to be under house arrest until she tried to convince her parents to let her go to Diagon Alley to meet with some of the other Hufflepuffs. When they denied her claim, she had pouted, but she hadn’t protested. Then, at the next meet up, she tried again and was denied. It happened about three more times before Edward caved and told her exactly what was going on. They didn’t want her to run away and get herself in any trouble that would make them look bad in front of the Montagues. When she complained of boredom, and she did so a lot, her mother would roll her eyes. She’d make some snide remark and then another about how she should focus on planning her wedding. After all, it was N.E.W.T year, which meant that she wouldn’t have much time to do anything during the school year.
Which really frustrated her because it made her feel trapped and imprisoned; Edward was allowed to go where he pleased, as was Sarah and Marius, and they were years younger than she was. She might not have lived up to their expectations, but she didn’t fancy herself embarrassing enough to not be let out. And, if it was, perhaps, because her parents knew about what had gone on in Rome…what had gone on since the announcement…then that she could understand. But, it made her long for Lorcan and the freedom of Hogwarts all the more. She’d sit on the cushioned seat of her window and wait for Sweetie to return with a letter. When she had come back with Caesars, she had been shocked. She had been expecting a letter from the Ravenclaw, not the ex-Slytherin. Still, she hadn’t had to wait for long before she had gotten her wish. She would have been lying if she said that she hadn’t thought that Lorcan was upset with her.
Silly boy that he was; Rosalie could never get mad at him. He made her feel too free for her to ever get mad. He loved her and took care of her. When she was crying herself to sleep from the stress she had gone through with Caesar, it had been Lorcan who made her feel better. Her first night of full rest had been spent with him holding her hand in an empty classroom. And, even though that had let to a sort of fallout after Rome, she couldn’t help but still be thankful to him. That’s why she pulled her trunk along behind her with magic easily. She no longer had the restrictions on her – hadn’t had them since her birthday earlier in the year. She wished she could have apparated around and scared the crap out of her younger siblings, but that would have been improper. And impossible, actually, considering that her parents had set wards up so that no one got the funny idea of trying to break her out. (Or Rosey the brilliant idea to apparate out into Diagon Alley on her own without their permission.)
She waved goodbye briefly before abandoning her siblings and looking through the compartments. There were a lot of familiar faces missing; replaced by newer, smaller, rounder faces she smiled at. If they asked, she gave her name distractedly. None of them were the person she was looking for the most eagerly after all. She must have gone through several compartments before she finally had to avert her eyes. For a moment, and it was only a split second, she had thought she had found the eldest Scamander, but she had been wrong. It had been Lysander. Rosey debated with asking him where in Merlin’s name his brother was, but decided on finding him on her own. That way Lysander could have as much free time as he wanted with whoever he was with – Something White. That’s all she could remember from Lorcan’s letter off the top of her head. She hoped it was right. Finally, she found him staring out the window. “Lorcan.” She breathed, pulling her trunk in behind her and moving it so that it was out of the way when she closed the door. “I found you!”

Lorcan never knew what he could have been getting into when he first got involved with Rosalie Harper. He was a wild boy. Someone who never thought he'd fall in love with a single girl. In fact pretty much all his previous years were spent chasing down as many girls as he could. He was normally the heartbreaker, very rarely was he the heartbroken. And even more rare was he heartbroken but still very much in love with the person he was in a relationship.
Unfortunately now was the time where he sat there unsure of what to do next. He didn't have that often. He didn't get that feeling of not knowing what to do. He was a creature who lived in the wind allowing it to pull him in every which direction so he can spend his time thinking freely and just going with the flow. That's what he had to do in his life. That was who he was as a person. Who he enjoyed being. He hated not being free in the wind.
His blue eyes continued to stare out the window of the compartment before he heard the door open. He didn't bother turning quite yet as he saw the figure in a reflection. His eyes scanned the reflection of the girl that he loved. He gave a smile after she spoke his name and that's when he turned his head to look at her. She was so very beautiful and this was the first time he had seen her since Rome. He couldn't help but smile more when he looked at her. ”You did find me,” he laughed.
He stood up and picked up her trunk to put it overhead in the compartment and then held out a hand for her to sit down where he then would take a seat next to her. ”You look stunning as always,” he told her.
She had told him in her letters that her parents didn't know about him. He didn't get to see her at all during the summer after Rome, and he was surprised that Caesar hadn't said anything. ”How are you?” he asked her. His blue eyes scanned her once more. Oh he was so much in love with that girl. He was so very happy that Rosalie joined him today in the compartment. And even though he knew they would soon come to an end he couldn't help but want to savor every single moment that they would come to share until that moment came. That moment where he was sure his heart would shatter into a billion pieces. Could a heart actually shatter? Because Lorcan was sure that the day Rosalie Harper would completely choose Caesar Montague over himself was the day that he would find out. Kind of like finding out how many licks it took to get to a center of a toostie pop. Lorcan wasn't sure what to expect but he didn't have to for now.

Rosalie never knew what to think. She spent most of her time in Hufflepuff surrounding herself with the girls. Compared to the ones she had grown up with, they had been different. They had been more accepting, even when she hadn’t treated them right. It was true that boys were a lot easier to deal with, but she was never sure how to treat the ones she hadn’t grown up with. She wasn’t sure when she had first begun to attract the attention of boys; just that she had never really liked or appreciated it until Kenneth. He’d made her feel different – had made her happy. And, she had felt free, but different.
Kenneth hadn’t made her feel the same way Lorcan did. That’s why, though they hadn’t been dating for ages, she knew that she loved him. It broke her heart to put him in the position that she did. But, when she saw him, and when he smiled like that at her, it almost made her forget everything. For a fraction of a second, she forgot just how horrible of a person she really was. But, then it all came crashing down on her and her heart hurt more than it did when she had been dating the Gryffindor. She hated that he was happy when he looked at her. She would have rather that he hated her.
Life would have been so much easier if he decided to hate her. For all she could guess, that had been the approach the Montague heir had taken. Though he was cordial in public, his letters to her implied something different. He had been sorry to love her. Rosalie only hoped that Lorcan wouldn’t say anything like that. It would have made her feel all the worse. Thankfully, she wasn’t going to have to worry about that anytime soon. Because, this year was supposed to be great. Caesar wasn’t around to make her second guess anything, and, for the moment, she and Lorcan were great. “Well, I did promise you I would.” She smiled and took his hand, lacing her fingers with her and being thankful that he put up her trunk for her. “Oh, hush. I didn’t even do anything special. You’re just trying to flatter me.”
And it worked, mostly because it was him. If it had been anyone else, Rosalie was sure that it wouldn’t have worked nearly as well. She took in a breath and ran her free hand over her face, her nose wrinkling in distaste. Not of his question, but of something else. Her parents were always causing her problems. She only wished she could tell them everything. She was still surprised that Caesar hadn’t told his parents anything. “Tired, but happy now,” she smiled at him, pulling him down and snuggling closer to him. At least enough to put her head on his shoulder with a smile. “I’ve missed you. I’ve missed you for a while.” She couldn’t help but smile a little mischievously and squeeze the hand that held hers. She knew she had a decision coming up soon. It hurt her to do it; it hurt her to even think about it, but she knew it was a long time coming. She only ha d a couple of months to officially make a decision, and, every time she thought about it, she wanted to cry. So, Rosey resolved not to think about it. “You?”

Lorcan was actually happy, even if it was something that would be short lived. He'd be crazy to sit and wallow in sadness because of a girl. Sure he thought of the latter but the happiness was most important to him. He'd never been a grudge holder in his life and never would be. Neither would he be mad at Rosalie for a choice she made. It was a choice to withhold information but it was information that only mattered to one person, Rosalie. Lorcan made choices to withhold information very often. He couldn't get mad at someone for doing something he did very often.
”Well, I did promise you I would.” Lorcan smiled. Maybe it would be easier if he couldn't stand her anymore. Maybe if he hated her it would be nice. He loved her though and that wasn't going to be changing. He would be okay thought. One day Rosalie will have to make a choice. One that would not be an easy choice. A choice between pleasing her family or them possibly disowning her. Lorcan knew which side of that he was one and which side Caesar was one. The hardest thing about this was that Caesar and himself were not getting along. That was incredibly hard. He didn't know what to do about it all. He didn't like being mad at someone. Caesar was his friend and maybe it could have been better if he had told his friend. But he didn't. Rosalie didn't want him to. It would be okay in time though. This Lorcan was sure of.
”Flattery is the greatest compliment, Miss Harper, you should know that,” he told her with a large smile. He kissed her gently on the lips. ”You should appreciate it when I tell you that you look amazing,” he told her.
”Tired, but happy now. I've missed you. I've missed you for a while.” He looked at her. His hand was squeezed tightly and he returned to squeeze. ”You have no idea how much I have missed you,” he told her with a sad smile. ”You're so very amazing,” he told her. He was good to ignore everything else. Why spend time talking about the inevitable when you could be enjoying that time before the inevitable happened?
”I've been good, you know, getting into my normal antics at home, Mum and Dad said they've saved money for Lysander and I to take a trip at the end of the school year if we'd like to, I dunno if I will go though or not, I've yet to decide,” he told her with a smile, ”may see if Hog's Head or Three Broomsticks is hiring.” Now that he was seventeen it was about time he decide what to do with his life. Barkeeping sounded like fun, but was it a job that he could survive one? Yes as long as he was careful. ”I'm so happy that we can ride the train together,” he told her.

She had resolved not to apologize anymore. She had resolved to put everything that had happened in Rome behind her and move on. There was only a limited time that she was able to be with Lorcan. She didn’t want to jeopardize it by apologizing all the time. She sucked in a breath and smiled. In a couple of months, she would have to say goodbye. They both knew this. The question was whether or not they had both accepted it. She’d kept the letters Caesar had sent her over the summer folded up at the bottom of her trunk. Whenever she found herself feeling too happy, she would take out one of the last ones he had written and read it until her eyes found themselves crying. But, in this moment, as she could feel Lorcan in front of her, she couldn’t help but put that aside, especially when he smiled. When he smiled, it was like…like she wasn’t that guilty. Like nothing was wrong and it was the beginning of last year all over again when they were happy, and she hadn’t been engaged yet.
She touched her fingers over her head and melted a little on the inside. He was always complimenting her. He was never quite sure how she felt, especially when she wasn’t used to it. While she was home, she had never really been told she was pretty. Just that she needed to do this to look like this, wear her hair like that so she wouldn’t look like that. The only person she had felt worse for was Edward. Mostly because he had had to suffer as she had, and then Rosalie had still gone and complained to him constantly. When his lips brushed against hers, she smiled into the kiss and pecked him back. She remained that, so long as his hand was in hers, then everything was going to be okay. And, even if it wasn’t going to be okay in the future, it was going to be okay now. “I do appreciate it.” She insisted, earnestly. She didn’t deserve it, but she appreciated it greatly. It was always nice to be complicated, but it was always nicer when it came from him. “So you should appreciate when I tell you that you look fantastic. A little scruffy, but comfortable; like I’m coming home.”
At least, that’s what it felt like every time she was around him once more. Like there was part of her soul and her heart missing, and then everything went back to normal when her eyes had landed upon him. When he returned her hand squeeze, it was all she could do but throw her arms around him and bury her face in the nape of his neck. “Oh, I bet I have something of an idea.” Rosey found herself giggling, flushing a little and gesturing back towards the hallway. “I spent all my time with my brother, and owling you." She loved Hogwarts, but she loved the fact that she could be around Lorcan even more now. They might have only snuck out once to stay in an empty classroom, but, as they had so little time left, she wouldn’t mind doing it again. All she could wonder now was how to figure out a way to tell him that.
He was taking a trip somewhere? She grinned and pulled him down into the seat, taking the one closest to him promptly. “I think you should do it. Traveling is always fun.” Thinking back to Rome for a fraction of a second, she had wanted to correct herself and point out that it was normally fun. However, she managed to stop herself nod her head. She hadn’t been to too many places. Just a couple of homes in other countries that belonged to her friends, and one in France that was their own vacation home. It was where she might have spent this summer if it weren’t for all the planning and running around the mothers had had her do. “You could send me postcards!” Especially if he went somewhere particularly fun and exciting. She probably wouldn’t be able to write him back automatically, but she would try. Even if she couldn’t talk to him over the summer, she would at least appreciate that she got to see that he was okay. She’d offer to do the same, but she doubted very much that he wanted to see what sort of things she was up to. “But, you can see if they’re hiring or something once you get back. You have the rest of your life to travel around, but you should take advantage of the fact that they gathered money for you to go and have fun.”
She snapped her fingers with her free hand and pulled the one that was holding his back in order to stand up and mess around within her trunk. “I’m sorry I couldn’t owl this to you for your birthday. It only just came in last week. I was so excited to get this to you.” She went around looking for it a little more before finding it. She pulled a little pouch out and handed it to him. “It’s special food I had imported from a company is South America. It’s for Elim.”
