All I want to get is a little bit closer -- Evie

Altair had been enjoying her night with Kyu. Altair loved to dress up for balls, but, it was sad how she had never had an actual date to one. Kyu was great, but kissing him wasn't as satisfying as kissing a pretty girl was. She might have danced the night away with Kyu but it was becoming nauseating to watch the couples slow dance so she excused herself from Kyu, saying she'd be back in a bit she just wanted to check on some other friends. At least she had pointed out a cute girl who looked to be alone and suggested he ask her to dance before heading away from the dance floor for a bit.

Altair had a lot on her mind, she twirled a rusty brown lock of hair around her finger as she sipped on some punch by the photo booth. Since returning to school Altair had been finding herself around Evie a lot. Some how the bubbly hufflepuff seemed to enjoy being around the brash gryffindor. It was strange, and most of all confusing. Evie had confided in her about her attraction to girls, though Altair struggled to understand why she was so scared of everyone finding out. But this information...it made it hard not to look at Evie in a different way. Altair hated getting hung up on straight girls, they were nothing but frustration. But girls who liked girls were a dime a dozen. She'd wanted to ask Evie to come as her date, but the girl seemed like she was happiest in the closet what good would it be to have a date if she didn't want anyone seeing them together? Of course, this was just assumption. Assumption that lead to Altair coming with her best friend instead of even bothering to ask Evie.

Altair drank the spiked punch, she knew there was something else in it after all it hardly tasted like simple juice. It made her head spin a little but she welcomed that hoping maybe it would clear away some of her thoughts. That was until she spotted the boobs girl in the red dress approaching her. She might have struggled with telling the two of them apart but Altair was almost positive this was Evie. "Hey," she said her lips curling up into a smile, Altair couldn't help it, her hair started to turn a deep magenta color, "look at you all cleaned up, bet your date is wondering where you've wandered off to." Altair had hoped Evie didn't come with anyone, then again Altair hoped a lot of things about Evie.

Evie was enjoying the dance overall, even though she had come on her own. It would have been too confusing for her to hope to get a date, anyway. She had hoped Altair would ask her but of course she had told herself that would be too much to hope for, and she had ended up going with her guy friend, which was all sorts of confusing for Evie as Altair had told her that she was just interested in girls. Of course Evie hadn't really given Altair enough of a hint to say that she would be okay with Altair asking her - but somewhere inside her Evie had always hoped that she would ask anyway.

So, knowing that she was going alone and not wanting the night to be a total failure, she had decided to go a bit bolder this year with her dress. She barely ever wore anything even slightly revealing, but tonight was going to change that. It wasn't too out there - there would be a lot of other girls with more revealing dresses - but for Evie it was a big step, and took a lot of courage to go out in it. Still, the amount of stares and compliments she was getting tonight were actually increasing her confidence, and she found that she was quite enjoying the night even without a date. She hadn't seen much of Altair yet - she had mostly been with Kyu - but she was always hoping in the back of her mind that Altair might notice her, particularly with the dress she had chosen. If Altair liked that kind of thing, she wasn't even sure.

She had had a bit of punch so far, and had noticed that it was spiked - the aftertaste was evident. But so far it was just enough to make her a bit happier and less reserved. When at one stage Altair actually came up to her, Evie smiled at her brightly and watched as the other girl's hair changed colour. That always fascinated her, and she never tired of seeing it happen. "My date? I'm flying solo tonight, love," she replied with a giggle. "Where has your dashing partner run off to?" she asked curiously.

It would be a lie to say that Altair felt sad that Evie had come alone, in fact it drew a bit of a smile from the petite girl. "Kyu? I, like any good best friend, played my hand in a little matchmaking." Well, it was hardly matchmaking and more a suggestion. Just because she didn't have a girlfriend didn't mean Kyu shouldn't find one. If only she realized things about her own life. Altair stepped closer to Evie. "So you really came all alone? I guess that means you're going to have to find someone to go into the photo booth with," Altair pressed a finger to her own lips and 'hmm'ed as if she was trying to think of a solution of this issue, "in a dress like that I'm sure you could get anyone you wanted in that photo booth. Anyone." Altair had a coy look about her, of course she was hoping Evie would want her in the booth. Though pairs of friends had been going in all night, not just dates. But Altair's mind was a bit hazy and with that dress her thoughts were far from friendship.

When Evie heard that Altair had been playing matchmaking for Kyu, she was a little surprised. Hadn't they been out on a date together? Maybe Evie had just overplayed that in her mind. Her lips curved up into the beginning of a smile when she realised that they had just come as friends- maybe rid would now have the chance to spend some time with Altair, especially if Kyu was now busy.

"Yep, all by my lonesome," Evie replied with a giggle. Yep, a giggle. The couple of glasses of punch she had had might be playing their part here. At the comment about her dress, Evie beamed. "So you like it? I wasn't sure if it was too much," she replied. "But yes, I am definitely looking for someone to go in the photo booth with! Would you do me the honour?" she asked, holding out her arm with a smile. Altair looked so adorable in that dress, it was almost painful. Almost.

Was it wrong for Altair to ditch Kyu? Yes, it was. But Altair had a tendency to think about herself and what she wanted. And right now, tonight, that was Evie. "I don't think you could find one person at this ball you doesn't like it, well except some of those overly jealous girls who just wish they could be a good looking as you." Altair was not shy about mentioning how good Evie looked, then again there were few things Altair was shy about. Altair put a hand to her chest and dramatically gasped."Me? Why - Why I would be honored." Altair laughed a little. Even though she was being dramatic (and far more girly than she tended to be) she was rather keen on being in a small booth with Evie.

Altair linked her arm in Evie's and tugged the girl closer to her before they headed to wait their turn at the booth. There were a few groups in front of them so the wait wouldn't be too long. Altair took her free hand and rested it against Evie's upper arm. Her skin was so soft that Altair couldn't resist dragging her finger tips lightly up and down from Evie's elbow to her shoulder. Maybe it was the drink, or maybe it was just because the opportunity had presented herself. She wonder if Evie was going to stop her, but she also wondered if maybe she liked it.

Evie was very pleased that Altair was coming over to spend time with her now. She was feeling much more positive about the evening, and she was loving Altair's positive comments about her dress. This had been exactly the kind of reaction that she had been hoping to get, and it made her feel good. "Oh, that's sweet of you to say! I'm glad you like it. I love yours, too, you look so adorable in it! It's really cute," Evie said glowingly. When Altair accepted the offer to go in the photobooth, Evie beamed. "Yay! We'll make some beautiful photos together!" she said excitedly as Altair took her arm.

They waited in the line, chatting amiably here and there. Evie felt very comfortable with Altair and this was only enhanced by the spiked punch. She did notice Altair running her fingers up and down Evie's arm, and she just shivered a little at the touch but smiled, not wanting to stop her doing it. "Ooh, look, it's our turn next! Let's go in," she said excitedly, unlinking their arms but taking Altair's hand and pulling her into the photobooth. Somewhere in her mind was the idea of kissing her, but Evie didn't know if that would be too forward. And then the thought that these photos would also go into the school yearbook came into her mind. But did she really care that much?

Altair's hand slipped right into Evie's her fingers sliding in between the other girl's with ease. Her heart had started to race as they entered into the booth. Just the two of them. They were standing close together. Altair often prided herself for the control she held over her ability but with such fuzzy thoughts her hair had a mind of its own. It faded quickly to a deep pink, Altair was blushing so much so that even her hair was. Few girls had managed to get such a blush from the gryffindor.

The pictures would start soon. Altair first had thought maybe they would make funny faces, or well that was about it. That or kiss. Did Evie want to kiss her? She wanted to kiss Evie. "Evie -" Altair bit at her lip as she looked the girl in the eye. They were just about the same height, maybe Evie had an inch or two on her, maybe more with her shoes. Altair's pupils were huge as she looked at the girl, her eyes drifting to her soft pink lips. The pictures started to take and Altair went for it. She reached a hand around the back of Evie's head and pulled herself to the other girl till their lips met. Her eyes drifted shut as she melted into Evie's lips. She had entirely forgotten about the photos as she got caught up in their kiss.

Evie's heart was buzzing around in her chest as she and Altair entered the photo booth. She was still wondering about kissing the other girl but by this point had basically psyched herself out of doing so, as she was overthinking things and her mind was racing. She giggled a little as Altair's hair changed colour - she was starting to notice that this happened with the other girl's moods, so deep pink... did that mean she was embarrassed? Or maybe... attracted? Evie wanted to be able to read the other girl better, and that would come in time.

They started making some funny faces to start with, but then she heard Altair say her name and she turned to face the other girl, and their eyes locked for a moment. It was like time froze as they held each other's gaze, the camera still clicking away, but then Altair's hand was on the back of Evie's head and all of a sudden they were kissing. Evie melted into her, meeting this kiss with no resistance whatsoever, her hand moving to the side of Altair's neck, brushing her hair aside and resting on her skin as the kiss deepened. The photos had well and truly stopped as the kiss continued, but Evie was lost in it. She lost track of time, of where she was, of who she was. It was only Altair, only this kiss. This wasn't her first kiss, after what had happened with Pandora, but this meant so much more, and was so much more amazing. When it eventually ended, Evie was breathing hard and her eyes fluttered open, meeting Altair's again... and her eyes displayed everything that she felt but was scared to feel. "I... that was... I mean, it was really nice," she breathed, blushing and giving a shy smile, which conveyed that she didn't regret it at all.

Altair's hands wandered over the other girls body until they found their way to her face where she softly held her as her lips moved against Evie's. Altair welcomed the deepening of the kiss and let herself get even more lost in the moment with the other girl. Altair had kissed plenty of times before, but it been so long since she had a kiss that actually meant something. Long enough that this felt new to her. Her hair had a mind of its own as it was bright orange now - a color of excitement. She could have kept her mouth locked with Evie's all night, that was if air was not essential.

She was reluctant to pull her lips from the other girls, instead she drew back leaving a few short kisses to linger. She smile, no grinned, or more beamed at Evie much like a Cheshire cat. Altair was rather pleased with herself in that moment. "Well I could have told you it would be, or you know shown you." So maybe she was so pleased with herself she was boasting a bit, it was hard not to after all she'd wanted to kiss the girl for a while now. "We could do it again if - Oh shoot! The pictures!" Altair said suddenly remembering they were in a photo booth. She took the other girl's hand in hers and pulled her up, but instead of pulling her out of the booth she pulled her to herself so she could kiss her once more. She tried not to get too caught up in the moment though, they didn't need someone bursting in to tell them they were well over their time in the booth. After she managed to pull herself away from Evie's lips she ginned again and let her hand slip into Evie's "Come on - I want to see how they turned out!" Altair of course was not thinking how Evie might not have wanted their first kiss to end up in something everyone was going to see, all Altair could think about was how sweet Evie's lips were.

When Altair said she could have told Evie, or showed her, she blushed and laughed a little. Did that mean that she had been wanting to do this beforehand? Evie wasn't sure if she was reading too much into that, but it did seem that Altair had enjoyed it as much as Evie had. And then she heard that Altair wanted to do it again, before they remembered about the pictures. Ah yes, those. "Where do they come out?" Evie asked at that reminder, looking around the booth and not seeing them. They must be outside the booth. She was still smiling and blushing a bit, and saw the orange colour of Altair's hair as it had changed. Then Altair was pulling her in for another kiss, which she happily accepted, before they broke it and decided that they should get out of the photobooth in case someone barged in on them. Evie squeezed Altair's hand as they exited, and then grabbed the photos out of the side of the booth, looking them over. "Aww, they're cute!" Evie said, looking over the first few which were funny faces, and then the later ones which had them kissing. Evie then had a moment of realisation that they were going to go into the school yearbook, which made her eyes widen a bit. Maybe she couldn't hide it anymore? Maybe she had to embrace it?

Altair took one of the copies and looked it over. It tickled in her stomach as she looked over each frame. "I think this'll be going on my bed post." Then she could look at it each night before falling asleep. She looked to Evie and saw her looking at the pictured wide eyed. Looking at them again Altair tried to think about what would cause such a reaction. "Oh." She frowned a little. Well, it was her own fault wasn't it? She wondered if Evie was starting to regret the kiss. Altair's bright hair slowly started to dull into a dark brown color. "You look really cute in them." She said as she ran her fingers over the pictures.

She'd never had a picture with her first shared kiss before. There was something exciting about it and yet now she felt conflicted. Should she apologize? She didn't want to. She wasn't sorry for kissing Evie. Evie had wanted her to kiss her, that much she was sure of. But was Evie ready for this? Was she ready to face her fears of what people would think. Instead of apologizing Altair squeezed Evie's hand reassuringly. It wasn't like she would be facing her fears by herself after all.

Evie did love the pictures, and she was glad that Altair seemed to like them so much as well. But that reaction was covered up a little by her realisation about the whole school knowing. "Thanks. You do, too. I love how your hair changes colour through them," she said softly, smiling. It had happened now, right? She didn't know how she could stop it going into the year book. So this was it. She was going for this. She squeezed Altair's hand back. "It's okay. We can do this," she said, mostly for her own encouragement. Altair seemed confident enough to not care what other people thought, but Evie still needed effort to get to that point. "Maybe this is what I need, just to take the plunge, you know?" she suggested, glancing at the other girl and smiling softly while pushing some of the now brown hair out of her face.

Altair was witing to be disappointed. This was why she had such a hard time finding a girlfriend, everyone was scared or unsure it seemed. It was her own fault for kissing Evie though, she should have realized the results could be disappointing. Except she felt Evie squeeze her hand hand back. Maybe she was getting a head of herself, maybe, maybe this meant enough to Evie. Maybe she meant enough to Evie. "We can do this." She looked at the other girl with fondness, Evie would be kidding herself if she didn't think Altair was going to be there for her through all this. This was making Altair feel as confident as ever. "Maybe I'm just what you needed." She smiled as Evie pushed back her brown hair, "You're what I needed. She said a bit mindlessly. It was true thought, Evie had brought out a much softer side to the brash gryffindor and there was something, or more someone, that Altair cared about more than quidditch. It was strange but some how it seemed to Altair that they just made sense. She held tight to the other girls hand. She felt unsure what she should say, or even do. This was still a bit new for Altair herself. "You won't be alone though, you got me." Maybe she should have asked just what Evie wanted to do, but that could be figured out later they still had the rest of the night to enjoy.

When their eyes met and Altair assured Evie that they could do this, Evie's fears were quelled a bit. It felt nice to know that this girl cared enough about Evie to go through this with her. "I think... maybe you are," she admitted, holding Altair's gaze and smiling softly. This felt good, no, it felt amazing to know that she had someone who she would be able to rely on and share all of her feelings with. She didn't really know what to do now... did this mean they were together? Was she jumping in too far, assuming too much? Despite Altair's words, she still had some shreds of doubt in her mind that this could actually happen to her, that Altair would actually want to be with her. But she tried to cast that off and enjoy the night. "Do you want to dance?" she asked, hopefully, looking out at the dance floor. Maybe this would be a starting point for her getting used to being seen with another girl. She really wanted to try.

It was hard not be beam at the blonde girl before her when she admitted that she might just be what she needed. In some ways it was selfish of Altair to think that she was the reason this girl was willing to step out of her comfort zone. That some how she was something special enough for her to risk everything. But wasn't that what was going on? Unable to contain herself Altair pressed a soft kiss to Evie's lips again, only this one was short and sweet unlike the last. She smiled at the other girl when she asked about the dance. "I would love a dance with someone as beautiful as you." With no hesitation Altair led Evie back to the dance floor where she placed her hands around the other girls waist and pulled her close. So often she had danced with Kyu where she played the follower but this time she wanted to lead. So she held Evie close and rested her forehead against Evie's her eyes softly closing as she swayed with the music. There was something wonderful about feeling the other girl against her, something truly wonderful.
