HISTORY:
Vanessa Velmont was born Vanessa Veltrino, the descendant of Victoria Veltrino, one of the darkest witches in history. While most of Victoria's descendants took the dark path as well, Vanessa wanted no part of it. She was a good soul in a wicked world. Her father Otho Veltrino tried hard to teach her dark magic, but the lessons sickened her and she feared what she could have become by following them. Finally, at age eight, she could no longer take the wickedness of her family and her last name and fled from home.
After sneaking on a train to London, Vanessa was found and taken in by two kind Squibs named Simeon and Esther Velmont. The two were far from rich, but took care of her nonetheless, and had the paperwork arranged to change her last name to Velmont as well and possibly rid her of her dark past for good. Vanessa spent the next three years prior to going to Hogwarts being the happiest she had ever been in her life, especially the days she spent with her foster sister, Liana who, despite her parents being Squibs, was magical as well.
At Hogwarts, the Sorting Hat sensed her family's darkness and seemed determined to place her in Slytherin. But Vanessa knew if she was placed in the House, her past would haunt her again. So as Harry Potter had once done, she managed to convince the Hat to place her in Gryffindor. In Gryffindor, she managed to befriend Freddie Weasley and a number of others, always keeping her ancestry hidden as to many, Veltrino was a blasphemous name. Her years at Hogwarts were good and without incident, and she did well in her classes. She even learned the Ability of Non-Verbal Magic, though this disturbed her a bit as the Veltrinos had a history with that Ability. She also developed strong feelings for her friend Freddie, but they were never brought up to him.
Having recently graduated, she has gotten a job as a Shopkeeper at the Magical Menagerie. A lover of animals, especially her dog Boris, she has taken well to the job. She also enjoys the fact that she works near Freddie's shop and can see her friend almost everyday.
