Dear Journal,
Do you think it's weird that a forty-six year old is still writing in an journal? I sure hope not but that would probably why my children looks at me kinda funny. Heck I haven't wrote in one since my youngest son Charlie's age. Boy I still remember walking through those great big oak doors for the first time. Hogwarts was a good time for me. But I will tell you more about that later. My father was really truly worried about me when I was a baby. Just like I was the way Charlie was born. Anyways I was born too early for the Doctor's comfort. Yes my immune system is good but it was only because I made it so.
I did everything one child could do no matter how much worried I made them. My mother was worried sick once when I fell out of a tree when I was three years old. Yes I loved climbing trees because I wanted to fly or at least touch the sky. And climbing trees was the one way to be able to touch the sky. Even my father was scared when I had fallen out of a tree. They took me to the emergency room and they had told them that all I did was sprained my wrist. My father then asked me why I was climbing trees in the first place. I then told him because I wanted to touch the sky and all he could do was laugh and so did my mother. My father said flying was in my blood.
Both of my parents were pureblood descendants. Which makes me a pureblood. Anyways the more I played outside and flew on my broom my immune system got stronger day by day. My mother ever wondered if I even slept inside. I was always the first one up and could be found outside getting into trouble or doing something nice for my mother. I once had built her a bench with my father's help of course but I put flowers and a nice little fountain and told her it's her vacation spot. And to this day you can find her there. I noticed one day that I had made a flower zoom to my hand and I told my father who was quite proud to find out that I was not going to be a scribe at all. Which was good news to them.
They went and bought me my school supplies and then shipped me off to Hogwarts. When I stepped through those Great Big Oak Doors for the first time I was in awe. I had fallen in love with the school. But I didn't know what house I was to be sorted into. I was quite happy to find out that I was sorted into Gryffindor. And the flying teacher was quite amazed that I had good flying skills and well I still didn't make the Quidditch Team. I didn't even try out for my first year alone. That was the year I had made friends with Charlie Weasley. Gryffindor's Seeker at the time. But in my second year there I had made the team as their keeper. Apparently I made a good Keeper.
When I wrote home to my parents my mother wrote back telling me to be careful. My father on the other hand was quite proud and happy of me. But when it was time to say good-bye to Charlie had I had no idea whom was going to take the Seeker Position. But I was amazed when I was in my fourth year to be named Captain of the Quidditch Team. Which was why it was hard to find the perfect Seeker to replace Charlie Weasley. And then Professor McGonagall told me about Harry James Potter. And I was quite doubtful at first until I saw his build. He was the perfect weight and height for a seeker. And then when I saw him fly for the first time I just knew we were going to win.
Of course we didn't win the Quidditch Cup until my final year there at Hogwarts. And then I pointed Harry as the Quidditch Captain. After Hogwarts though I joined Puddlemore United. And was quite proud to be their Keeper. They were proud to have me as their keeper too. But when I got married to Alicia Spinnet all of that changed. But before that happened Hogwarts had to be saved from Lord Voldemort. Yes I knew of him. Yes I knew he tried to take the Sorcerer's Stone. Yes I knew he was the one who killed Cedric Diggory. Cedric was a great Chaser for the Hufflepuff Team. Yes I knew that Cho Chang loved Cedric. I'm pretty sure if he was still alive they would have wed by now.
But sadly he's not but when I held Colin Creevey's body in my hands I nearly broke down. I had thought what did this kid do to deserve to be killed? So much innocent children had to pass just because Lord Voldemort wanted to take over the darn school. But Harry came through and well destroyed him. Boy were we glad that he was no longer alive. But then few years or so I had a run with Alicia Spinnet and we just hit it off so much that we decided to marry. And I of course was really into my Quidditch that I wasn't their much for my first daughter Lillian much. Well at least for the first two months. I was worried that I wouldn't make a good father until Alicia had made me understand that she too was doing the best she could to be a good mom.
After a while I came home and held my daughter and took care of her to help my lovely wife. Lillian I adored her little faces that she had made at me. And couldn't wait to see what our next child would do when Lillian was about two I had received noticed that she was pregnant again. And then we had our Rory who had stuck his tongue out at me when he was first born. And I loved him just as much as I love Lillian. And I sang him songs. Through out time I was sensing that Lillian wouldn't be so much into Quidditch which broke my heart a little. I loved Quidditch that was for sure. And then when Rory was about two and Lillian was about five we had our next daughter.
I did not feel like our family was yet complete. As I was out numbered by one. But that year I decided to get a dog. A male dog and I named him Danger. He was a great puppy. He was a German Shepherd and he was a good protector. He became my best friend when I needed someone to talk to. I began teaching him tricks and well I never knew a dog could learn so much. But then again they made great pals. When we had Charlie it's great because then our family was complete. Danger knew not to mess with the baby. But yet he knew enough sense to protect the baby but he also knew when he was about to get sick and would lay by his crib. I was worried about my son.
He was just like me. Born a little too early but he seemed worst off than me. I was really worried about my son. No matter how much my mother told me everything was going to be all right and that he would make it through. I was afraid I lost my son. I wnated to name him Charlie because the name sounded strong even though Charlie meant Free Man. My wife thought the name was good. My mother told me that I was also born early and they too thought they were going to lose me. I told her this time it's different. That Charlie was not like me. No matter what we tried he wasn't getting strong enough.
By that time I thought about retiring from Quidditch to take care of Charlie. But Alicia had talked me into staying up with Quidditch and that she should be fine. My mother at that time had decided to move in with us to help out. After awhile when she thought we could handle it she moved out once more and we realized we had a handful and decided that we were not going to have anymore children anymore. Through out time we finally had to say good-bye to Lillian when she went off to Hogwarts. It was the saddest day of my life.
I had to say good-bye to my oldest child. Well for a least nine months anyways. She'd be back but I knew she'd love Hogwarts just as much as I did. When I got the first letter I knew I was right. She had loved Hogwarts. I was happy for her when she mentioned that she was sorted into Ravenclaw. I didn't care which house she was in as long as she was happy and she was. And then two years later my other son Rory went to the school. And when I got word that he was sorted into Gryffindor I was overjoyed. That was the best news that I've ever had. My son my boy was in Gryffindor. And then went the next one and she was well in Ravenclaw. So both of my girls were in Ravenclaw. I felt like it was a good thing because I'd want both of them to be smart and not afraid to show that. And then my youngest son Charlie went and he too was sorted into Gryffindor. I was a proud father to have my boys in Gryffindor following in my footsteps which was not easy.
Now though I am really considering retiring from Quidditch but still playing at the moment. I'm getting older not younger and should still be able to do things that I want to do. No matter how old I get I will still love flying.
Oliver James Wood.
