Good afternoon, I'm Chester Lobell. Yes I know what you're thinking. I'm quite used to people acknowledging my small stature by now. The Lobells have almost always been small people. My mother Angelana and my father Charles were both small people, as were my grandparents and their parents and so on. One thing we've learned is to overcome the negatives that come with being small and embrace the positives. But that's enough about that. I prefer to speak about more significant aspects of my life.
The Lobells have also almost always been in the healing business. My father and grandfather were both healers at St. Mungo's. Though they permitted me to pursue my own dreams, it so happened that at an early age to took an interest in the art, and often observed my father and grandfather at work. As you well know, I could not attend Hogwarts until I was eleven, so I spent my days studying under them. The more I learned, the more fascinated I was. By the age of ten, I knew that was what I wanted to be when I became an adult.
When I began attending Hogwarts, I was sorted into Ravenclaw. Not wishing to boast, but I felt the choice was quite appropriate. I not only had interests in my own goals, but magical academia in general. My strong points were potions, arithmancy, and alchemy. I had the mickey taken out of me due to my size, and therefore had a limited amount of friends, though I will say I quite cherished the ones I had. However, my social activities were never as strong a focus as the ones on my work and my goals. By graduation, I was more than prepared for the career ahead of me. I graduated with honors and those who might have judged me thought twice about their assumptions. It's always a good feeling to over come adversities.
After graduation, I began my internship in the Magical Disease division at St. Mungo's. Even as an intern, I did not hold back on showing my colleagues what I could do. As in school, some tended to underestimate me because of my size. As always, I worked hard and a few years later, I was given the honorable position of Potions Master. The new occupation did not make me over-confident in my abilities as all my life I have learned that one can truly never stay out of practice. One cannot be perfect, but only continue to perfect what one does.
As I continued to perfect my skills, I was noticed in a positive light once again. My eagerness to aid others and take orders without argument, that is unless I found such orders unethical, gained the attention of Tristan Chadwick, the Director of St. Mungo's. After a number of meetings, I was able to replace the retiring Assistant to the Director. I was humbled when given the position. To think I, who had dealt with so many adversities in his life, had been given such a prestigious position in one of the finest hospitals in the wizarding world. I was completely honored.
So what does my story teach you? That people should be judged not by the size of their body, but the size of their heart? No, of course. I've never been the sentimental time. My story teaches you that if you want any true reward in life, and if you want to truly be fulfilled, you must earn all of it through study and hard work. Don't do anything halfway and never, ever let others tell you what you can and can't do.
Good afternoon.
